Carmen Adame Cano

Carmen Adame Cano, 46, of Cuero, and formerly of San Antonio, died Sunday, March 21, 2004.
She was born June 30, 1957 in Victoria to Gustavo and Josephine Sertuche Adame. She was a branch manager for Alamo Lumber Yard in Cuero. She was a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph James Cano; sons, Joseph James Cano of San Antonio and Christopher Alexander Cano of Cuero; parents; sisters, Gloria Ann Villarreal and Adela Estrada, both of Victoria; and brother, Jose Alfredo Adame of Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Seferino and Natividad D. Adame and Simon and Nicolasa R. Sertuche.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24 at Artero Memorial Chapels. A Rosary will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be at Guadalupe Cemetery in Mission Valley.
Pallbearers: Daniel Cano, Joseph Christopher Cano, David Villarreal Sr., Domingo Estrada Sr., David Villarreal Jr., Domingo Estrada Jr., Phillip Cano, and Jose Alfredo Adame.
Honorary pallbearers: Alamo Lumber, Home Depot, Congregation of St. Dominic Catholic Church in San Antonio.
Floral committee: Bianca Estrada Hill, Christina Villarreal, Carrie Lee Cano, Julie Cano, and Melissa Cano.

Myrtice E. Rangnow

Myrtice E. Rangnow, 61, of Meyersville, died Monday, March 15, 2004.
She was born July 24, 1942, in Southton, to the late James Martin Hancock and Bessie Granberry Bailey. She worked in the cafeteria at Yorktown ISD for seven years. She also worked for TSO in Victoria and was a childcare provider in her home. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meyersville.
Survivors: husband, Alfred G. Rangnow; daughter, Rhonda Ideus of Meyersville; son, Timothy Rangnow of San Antonio; stepfather, Samuel Madison Bailey of Victoria; sister, Nelda Meitzen of Portland; stepsister, Shirley Blohm of Victoria; brothers, James Hancock of Arneckeville and Eldon Ray Hancock of El Campo; stepbrother, Samuel Madison Bailey III of Newark, Delaware; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: son, Steven L. Rangnow.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 16 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Nicholas Wagner officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Chris Ideus, Carl Eichhorn, H. R. Krause, Michael Albrecht, Randy Cole, and Ricky Burge.

Leonora Villarreal

Leonora Villarreal, 85, of Yorktown, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
She was born April 14, 1918, in Yorktown, to the late Gregorio and Leonora Gill Vargas. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors: husband, Victor Villarreal; son, Roque Villarreal of Yorktown; sister, Jane Castillo of San Diego; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: sisters, Alice Torres and Gregoria Vargas; and brothers, Cerscencio Vargas, Manuel Vargas, Jose Vargas, Felix Vargas, Samuel Vargas, Onesimo Vargas, and Ramon Vargas.
Visitation was Thursday, March 18 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Friday at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church. Burial was at Yorktown Community Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Kenneth Wayne Holdgraf

Kenneth Wayne Holdgraf, 67, of Sinton, and formerly of Cuero, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004.
He was born on December 26, 1936, in Houston, to Ann Machicek and the late William Holdgraf. He was an installer and repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Coppedge Holdgraf; daughter, Brenda Curlee of Sinton; son, Gary Wayne Holdgraf of Palacios; sisters, Linda Fiew of Edna and Jackie Hankins of Rockport; brother, Bill Holdgraf of Three Rivers; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson, Jeffery Holdgraf.
Visitation was Sunday, March 21 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday at the funeral home, Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Butch Crisp, Bill Ryan, Keith Curlee, Ken Curlee, Gary Holdgraf, Randy Holdgraf, and Fred Van Cleave.

Edwin Ross Pridgen

Edwin Ross Pridgen, 79, of Victoria, died Thursday, March 18, 2004.
He was born in Thomaston on July 20, 1924 to the late Floyd and Nora Brown Pridgen. He was a fifth generation Texan, and veteran of World War II and later volunteered for the Korean Conflict receiving three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV, and the American Legion, all of Victoria.
He is survived by his brother, Floyd Dwayne Pridgen of San Antonio.
Graveside service will be Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at the Thomaston Cemetery, with the Rev. Toby Brown officiating.

Julia A. Myers

Julia Ann Myers, 58, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
She was born Jan. 15, 1946, in Cuero, to the late Walter W. and Myra Lightfoot Brown. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors: daughter, Kathy Myers Kahlich of Cuero; son, Joseph Myers Jr. of Cuero; Lola Parr of Cuero and Joyce Smith of Athens, Alabama; and three grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Joseph Boyd Myers Sr.; an infant daughter; and brother, Walter Thomas Brown.
Visitation was Friday, March 12 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home, the Rev. Bill Gleason officiated. Burial was at Clinton Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Horace B. Brown Sr.

Horace B. Brown Sr., 79, of Yorktown, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004.
He was born June 19, 1924, in Yorktown, to the late Marcellus and Catherine Herron Brown. He was a retired farmer, former member of Masonic lodge and Eastern Star, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Fannie Brown; daughters, Anna Bert Brown, Mary Bell Brown, and Catherine Brown, all of Yorktown, and Carol Brown Cunningham of Cuero; sons, Horace Brown Jr., Albert Lee Brown, and Johnnie Brown all of Yorktown, Jimmie Lee Brown of Victoria, Charlie Brown and Allen Ray Brown, both of Beeville, and Robert Joe Brown Sr. of Yoakum; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: son, Louis Brown; brother, Albert Brown; sisters, Mary Bell Brown, Laura Lee Brown, Myrtle Hope, Alberta Stewart, Irene Haynes, and Leona Campbell.
A prayer service was held Saturday, March 12 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Sunday at the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Yorktown Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Richard L. Stratton

Richard L. Stratton, D.O., 79, a retired physician, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in Bedford.
Dr. Stratton received his pre-medical education at Texas A&M and the University of Texas at Austin, and did graduate studies at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was in family practice in Cuero from 1947 to 1969, then in family practice in Arlington from 1969 until his retirement in 1989. Dr. Stratton was a commissioned member of Texas Governors Hospital Licensing Advisory Council, appointed by four governors from 1959 to 1976; chief of staff at Northeast Community Hospital for three terms; aviation medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration until retirement; past member of the board of trustees, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine; and past president of Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. He was a past member of the statewide quality assurance committee for Texas Medical Foundation; diplomate of American College of General Practice from 1973 to 1989; legioned honorary member of Arlington Noon Kiwanis Club; past member of Arlington Rape Crisis Task Force; and past president of Arlington advisory committee to Family Services of Fort Worth.
Survivors: wife of 57 years, Merna Stratton; children, Cris S. Woodward, Dr. Stephen Woodward, and Debbie Stratton; and many other relatives and friends.
Private family service were held. Burial was at Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale. Emerald Hills Funeral Home, Kennedale, 817-572-1681

Gene Nixon

Gene Nixon, 79, of Cuero, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
He was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Sommerset, Texas, to the late Henry Eugene and Rosa Mae Weeks Willoughby. He married Ella Mae Logan on Aug. 9, 1944 in Lockhart. He retired after 36 years of service with Humble/Exxon Oil Co. as a Drilling Superintendent. He owned and operated Nixon Independent Consulting Operations (NICO). He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuero.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Barbara Annette Nixon Kelley and Pamela Gail Nixon Damuth, both of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Eugene Nixon and Sherry Lynette of Refugio; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack; and sister, Opal.
Visitation was Thursday, March 10 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales. Funeral services were Friday at the funeral home chapel, Rev. Glenn Robertson officiated. Interment followed at the Woodmen of the World Cemetery in Gonzales. Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales, 830-672-3232.

Barbara Richerson

Barbara Richerson, 60, of Cuero, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004.
She was born January 27, 1944, in Victoria, to Laura Richerson Burden of Cuero and the late Elroy Bell.
Survivors: sisters, Shirley Smith and Cherry Bradley, both of Houston, and Linda Pickens of Cuero; and brother, Donald Burden of Cuero.
Preceded in death by: her father and brother, Kelly Richerson.
Visitation was Friday, March 5 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, Dr. H. S. Smith officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
