Maria I. Servantes

Maria I. Servantes, 89, of Cuero, died Monday, February 24, 2003.
She was born April 2, 1913, in Zavala County, to the late Ynes and Frances Zuniga Gonzales. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors: daughters, Ramona Rodriguez, Josephine Diaz, Frances Lazo, Janie Gonzales and Antonia Gonzales, all of Cuero; sons, Ynes Cervantes of Cuero and Joe Cervantes Jr. of LaMarque; 41 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; and 57 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Joe Servantes, daughters, Lupe Servantes and Mary Trejo; and parents.
A rosary was recited Wednesday, February 26 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. Services were Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero, Rev. Michael Lyons officiated. Burial was at San Pedro Cemetery in Concrete. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: John Rodriguez Jr., Gonzalo Diaz Jr., Cruz Gonzales Jr., Jerry Cervantes, Charlie Trejo, Tony Maldonado, Ricky Varela, and Mitchel Joe Gonzales.

Glen M. “Jack” Adcock

Glen M. “Jack” Adcock, 84, of Cuero, passed away on March 2, 2003.
He was born on January 24, 1919 in Victoria to the late Richard J. and Buena Magee Adcock. He served in the U. S. Navy. He owned Adcock Fence Building Service, and was a 40 year member of the Cuero Booster Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Craft of Orange; 2 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Miller Adcock; parents; and sisters, Vivian Johnston and Avis Newcomer.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 4 at Freund Funeral Chapel in Cuero. Funeral services are Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers are Mike Frers, Bob Davis, Darryl Berger, Kenneth Buenger, Keith Richardson, and Charles Schults.
Honorary pallbearers are J. T. “Sonny” Webb and Fred Kubesch.

Allen Mobley

Allen Mobley, 68, of Cuero, died Sunday, February 23, 2003.
He was born June 11, 1934, in Yoakum, to the late William Paul and Mary Christina Hinds Mobley. He was a retail clerk.
Survivors: wife, Barbara Mobley; daughter, Suzanne Mobley of Cuero; son, Russell Mobley of Cuero; sister, Mary Nell Ball of Sugar Land; and brother, William Paul Mobley of Oklahoma.
Preceded in death by: parents; and brothers, Carl R. Mobley and Alex Mobley.
Visitation was Tuesday, February 25 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. Services were Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, Rev. Dr. Glenn Robertson officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Jason Anzualda, Jeremy Anzualda, Darrell Barnes, Shane Cleveland, Jason Hale, and Joel Stirneman.

William L. Barnes

William L. Barnes, 77, of Cuero, died Sunday, February 23, 2003.
He was born March 10, 1926, in Houston, to the late Leona Campbell. He was a waiter at a restaurant and a Baptist. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Services were Thursday, February 27 at Freund Funeral Home chapel, Rev. Charles Polk officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Thomas Richard Young

Thomas Richard Young, 61, of Yorktown, passed away February 26, 2003.
He was born April 10, 1941 in Corpus Christi to the late Otho Bellar and Ethel Deon Young. He was a retired general manager at Borden’s Inc. in Houston. He attended Texas A&M, Class of ‘63. He was a past chairman of the Aztec Council of Boy Scouts of America, and a past president of the Retail Grocer’s Association of Houston. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club in Laredo and Champions Golf Club of Houston. He was a member of the 12th Man Foundation, a lifetime member of the DeWitt Historical Society, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Hoffman Young of Yorktown; sons, Thomas Richard Young Jr. and Joseph Andrew Young, both of Austin; sisters Di Ann Schlabach of LaGrange and Sharon Crossley of Riesel; brother, Otho Bellar Young of Corpus Christi; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Warren.
Visitation was Friday, February 28 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home in Yorktown. Services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Revs. Patti Byrne, John Cook, and Kay Johnson officiated. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Yorktown.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Ashworth, Billy Lopez, Coke Wilson, Rose Lewis, Kraege Wolpman, and Joe Ortiz.
Memorials: St Paul Lutheran Church of Yorktown Elevator Fund.

Cecil A. White

Mr. Cecil Albert White, age 75 of Wharton, died Thursday, February 27, 2003 in Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton following a brief illness.
He was born on April 29, 1927 in Cuero to the late Albert Payton White and Ethel Cleo Holland White. He was married for nearly 56 years to his beloved wife, Georgia Mae Elizabeth Thieme White, whom he married on April 6, 1947 in Cuero.
Mr. White was a resident of Wharton since October of 1953 and was a former resident of Cuero. He was the owner and operator of the Grapette/Frostie Bottling Company and Wharton Beverage Packers for 27 years and was a member of the National Soft Drink Association. He also owned and operated Payton Freight Ltd. for the following 13 years until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. White was a World War II veteran serving as a First Class Seaman in the U. S. Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, he competed in the amateur fight program of the Olympic Boxing Association and won the Heavyweight Class Title. Following his honorable discharge, he trained and sparred with the great Joe Louis and placed in the National Golden Gloves competition.
Mr. White became a private pilot in 1960 and was an avid "fly boy." Among the favorite of his planes was his 1954 twin Bonanza which had been used to transport officials with the U. S. Army.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 87 in Wharton. Mr. White was also a member of St. Paul's American Lutheran Church in Wharton and was instrumental in construction of its Fellowship Hall.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Timothy Duane McPherson, his son-in-law, Henry Pete (Buddy) Holesovsky, III, and his oldest son, Glenn Cecil (Tank) White.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Georgia White of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dennis McPherson of Richmond, Susan Holesovsky and Ted Meuth of Brazoria, Cynthia White and Geep Reid of Austin, Rebecca and Mark Wick of Hallettsville, Jane and Randy Lane of Port O'Connor; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Becky White of Wharton; daughter-in-law, Kathy White of Wharton; sister, Jerry Moore Parker of Cuero; two brothers, Clarence Odell and Billy Joe White, both of Cuero; grandchildren, Shelley McPherson Grant, Jason McPherson, Julie White, Dusty White, Melissa Holesovsky Clark, Brad Holesovsky, B. J. Holesovsky, Bobby Osterloh, Rick Osterloh, Nate Reid, Mike White, Krissy White, Amy Wick, Payton Wick, and Sterling Wick; great-grandchildren, Karis McPherson, Amber McPherson Grant, Sydney White, Chase Grant, Madelyn Clark, Ty Clark, Blaine Holesovsky, and Lil Buddy Holesovsky; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation was Sunday, March 2 at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday at the funeral home chapel, Rev. Paul Kersten with St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiated. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Tommy Clark, Greg Whatley, and his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. His great grandsons and the U. S. Coast Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
If desiring, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wharton. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home, 979-532-3410.

Louis Gallegos Sr.

Services for Louis Gallegos Sr., 84, of Yorktown, who died Thursday, February 27 were Sunday, March 2 at San Luis Catholic Church, Rev. Peter Kaplinski officiated. Burial was at San Luis Catholic Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.
Pallbearers: David Cruz, Frank Hinojosa, Dennis Miller, Arthur Mata, Ray Nunez, and Lucio Gallegos.
Honorary pallbearers: Gilbert Rice and grandchildren.

Deborah L. Arnold

Deborah Lynn Arnold, 52, retired school teacher went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004.
She was born Nov. 14, 1951 in Cuero and was a lifelong resident. She attended Sam Houston State University and graduated from the University of Houston Victoria campus. Deborah pledged Chi Omega sorority and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was an elementary school teacher for many years, was a member of the First Baptist Church and Tuesday Ladies Prayer groups.
Survivors: children, Courtney Kacir and Kelly Arnold; grandchild, Keanna Shelton; mother, Gladdie Rusche; sister, to De Lula Cook and Elizabeth Oehlke; nieces, Ashton and Mitchell Cook and Scarlett and Golden Dale Oehlke; brother-in-law, Mark Cook; and great-nephew, Preston Relkin.
Preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Anne Kacir, spouse, Ken Arnold; and father, David Rusche.
A burial service was held at the Hillside Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
Memorials: First Baptist Church and Hospice of South Texas.

Alice Meyer

Alice Meyer, 93, of Yorktown, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004.
She was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Anson, to the late Joe and Ida Badecker Huebner. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Hermann Sons Lodge No. 36.
Survivors: daughter, Judy Johnson of Sugarland; son, Alton Meyer of Victoria; sister, Sedonia Meyer of Victoria; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Charles Meyer.
Visitation was Monday, Nov. 8 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Rev. Patti Byrne officiated. Burial was at Westside Cemetery. Lamprect-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Leroy Lucas

LeRoy Lucas, 65 of Thomaston, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004.
He was born Sept. 29, 1939 in Woodward, Oklahoma to the late Harry and Myrle Secrist Lucas. He was a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Esparanza Hope Lucas; daughters, Thelma Lucas Rogers and Maria Castillo, both of Thomaston, Tammy Sue Jaggars of Arkansas, Rosa Linda Sanchez of Victoria; sons, Ricky Lucas and Kenneth Lucas, both of Oklahoma, and Jose Garcia of Cuero; brothers, Claude Lucas, Jimmy Lucas, Charlie Lucas, Wayne Lucas, Myron Lucas, and Leland Lucas; sisters, Thelma Norsworthy, Rae Mae Gresham, Ella Faye Sheppard, and Margaret Gordon; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were Monday at the funeral chapel, the Rev. Clayton Taylor officiated. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 361-573-4546.

James H. Elder

James H. Elder, 82, of San Antonio, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004.
He was born July 28, 1922 to the late Claud J. Elder and Ruby LeGalley Koehler. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his sister, Joan Machacek of Moulton, and step-brother, Charlie Barfield of Yoakum.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 4 at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero, Pastor Steve Byrne officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Viola J. Buesing

Viola Julia Buesing, 91, of Nordheim, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002.
She was born July 19, 1911, in Meyersville, to the late William and Annie Seiler Moeller. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: daughters, Gladys Weise of Weesatche, Joyce McKinney of College Port, and Dorothy Hennig of Goliad; sons, William James Buesing of Weesatche, Floyd Edward Buesing and Laverne Buesing, both of Yorktown, and Marvin W. Buesing of Sugar Land; sister, Elvera Boehn of Karnes City; 29 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Gustav John Buesing; sons, Gustav Roy Buesing, Lawrence Ray Buesing Sr. and Dalton Buesing; parents; sister, Allean MacDonald; and brother, Edward Moeller.

William James Buesing, 67, of Weesatche, died Monday, August 18, 2003.
He was born April 12, 1936, in DeWitt County to the late Gus J. and Viola Moeller Buesing. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Hermann Sons Lodge in Weesatche. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Survivors: wife, Janette Koening Buesing; daughter, Ilene Dahl of Victoria; son, Steven Buesing of Weesatche; sisters, Gladys Weise of Weesatche, Joyce McKinney of College Port and Dorothy Hennig of Goliad; brothers, Floyd Buesing and Laverne Buesing, both of Yorktown, and Marvin Buesing of Sugar Land; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: brothers, Dalton Buesing, Gus Roy Buesing and Lawrence Buesing.
