James C. Morgan

James C. Morgan, 70, of Canyon Lake, died August 20, 2003.
Mr. Morgan was the former City Manager of Cuero.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Heaton Morgan; daughter, Lynn Morgan Cruz and husband Santos; grandchildren, Amy Lyn Morgan, Andrew Kohler, Dacey Morgan, and Dustin Morgan; sisters, Peggy Anderson and husband Zanna and Patsy Stedham.
He was preceded in death his parents, Joe Clint and Iva Hyer Morgan and a son, Bradley Morgan.
Graveside services were held Saturday, August 23 at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock. Funeral arrangements were made by Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, 830-779-1090.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 950 Isom, San Antonio, Texas 78216.

Leona Ann Johnson

After a long life of 88 years, much health and happiness, Leona Ann Johnson passed away on August 21, 2003.
She was born on March 9, 1915 to Adeline and Fred Logeman. She was employed by Frito Lay for 20 years retiring in 1974. Since her retirement, she has enjoyed her bunco group, dancing with the Golden Age Seniors, playing cards with the Highland Park Lutheran Church Retirees, table games and dancing at the Moose Lodge, cheering for the Spurs, and spending time with friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brother, and husband Charles Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Dottie Williams and Betty Kersey; son, G. R. “Butch” Hillmer and wife Nancy; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special friend, Art Gay; and many other family and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, August 24 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral services were Monday at St John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Pastor Bob Braun officiated. Arrangements with Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 S.E. Military Dr., San Antonio, 210-924-4242.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Jack M. McKay Jr.

Jack M. McKay Jr., 56, of Cuero, died August 23, 2003.
He was born on January 22, 1947 in Galveston to the Margie M. McWilliams McKay and the late Dr. Jack M. McKay Sr. He was the owner of McKay Beefmasters.
He is survived by his mother, Margie M. McWilliams McKay of Cuero.
Services will be held at a later date. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Floyd Ervin Stevens

Floyd Ervin Stevens, 82, of Yoakum, died Monday, August 25, 2003.
He was born in Terryville on August 10, 1921 to the late Ward and Mary Stevens. He was a retired ranch hand, having worked for Wilford Lucas Ranch. Since moving back to Yoakum in 1957, Floyd has worked for Morrow Metalworks, Rudolphs, and Bob Miller. He is a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his daughters, Fern Irvin and husband James and Jewel Moore and husband Alvin, all of Yoakum; sisters, Lillie Perry and Annie Lee Frazer of Onalaska and Earlene Stevens of Palestine; brothers, E. J. Stevens and Kenneth Stevens, both of Harwood; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Luder Stevens; parents; and sister, Verna Mae Fuller.
Visitation will be Friday, August 29 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Yoakum. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Clinton Cemetery in DeWitt County. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-2333.
Pallbearers: Gerald Irvin, Floyd Moore, Aaron Moore, Ray Vigus, Ted Poskey, Bob Miller, Tim Berkovsky, and Viv Pineda.
Honorary pallbearers: Dr. Gober; everyone at Davita Dialysis Center in Gonzales, Covey Morrow Jr., Wayne Rudolph, Glen Rudolph, Bennie Lange, Shirley Lucas; and everyone at Stevens Healthcare.

Mrs. Ethel Myers

Mrs. Ethel Myers, 86, of Yoakum, died Saturday, August 23, 2003.
She was born June 24, 2917 in Yoakum to the late Francis C. and Mary A. Hattenbach Wenzel. She was a housewife and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. “Buck” Myers; daughter, Gloria Griffin of Cuero; sons, Charles J. Myers of Missouri City, Texas, J. Marc Myers of Dallas, C. Anthony Myers of Bexley, Ohio, M. Thomas Myers of Pasadena, Texas, and James Hugh Myers of Yoakum; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Loeney Parr, Clara Tate, and Lottie Wimberly; and brothers, John P. Wenzel, Morris Wenzel, Pat Wenzel, and Jim Wenzel.
A rosary was said Monday, August 25. Services were Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rev. Roger Hawes officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-2333.
Pallbearers: Bobby Myers, Nathan Myers, Sam Myers, Jimmy Martin, Tommy Wenzel, and R. B. Benbow.
Memorials: St. Joseph Catholic Church or donor’s choice.

Henry William Paul Sievers Jr.

Henry William Paul Sievers Jr., beloved daddy, grandpa and great-grandpa passed away on August 14, 2002 at 92 years of age. He was born in DeWitt County on August 13, 1910 to the late Henry Sr. and Karoline (Goehring) Sievers. He was a member of two pioneer DeWitt County families. In 1919 the family moved to Goliad County where Henry attended Rylander School.
On June 17, 1937 he married Lucille Willemin and settled into married life on Lucille's family homestead in Victoria County. They enjoyed 61 years of a wonderful life together before her death in 1999. He was a carpenter by trade and had a great love for his family, the land, his cattle, hunting and fishing.
At the age of 33 he was drafted into the U. S. Marine Corps working with the Seabees until his discharge in 1945. He is a life member of the Marine Corps League and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was an active member for 37 years.
He was a longtime active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, was a member of the Brotherhood and he and Lucille were Luther League sponsors for many years. He was a past board member of the Colettoville Cemetery Assoc. and past member of the Raisin Volunteer Fire Dept.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Weyman Reimann, grandson, Jeff Reimann and his wife Beth, great-granddaughters, Amy, Katie, and Lacey Reimann all of Victoria and sister, Mathilda "Tillie" Havermann of Goliad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Waymon Sievers, parents, and brothers, Reinhold Sievers and Herbert Sievers.
Services were Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Colettoville, Rev. Leland Deikhoff officiated. Burial followed at Colettoville Cemetery with full military honors under auspices of Victoria Veterans Council V.F.W., C.W.V., D.A.V., Marine Corps League, Military Order of Purple Heart, Crossroads Ex., P.O.W., American Legion, Military Order of World Wars. Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, 361-578-3535.

Manuel J. Vasquez

Manuel Jesus Vasquez, 54, of Cuero, died Sunday, August 18, 2002.
He was born January 26, 1948 in DeWitt County to the late Bernardo and Fernanda Garcia Vasquez. He worked in construction and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Vasquez of Cuero; daughter, Angela Vasquez of Nebraska; sons, Jerry Vasquez of Cuero; Anthony Vasquez of Corpus Christi, Benson Vasquez of Sommerville, and Jess Vasquez of Houston; sisters, Sulema Aris Mendez of Houston, Margaret Pena of Dallas, and Sara Rodriguez and Emily Vasquez; brothers, Antonio Vasquez of Kerrville and Joe Vasquez of Houston; and two grandchildren.
A rosary was said Tuesday, August 20 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Cuero, with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Edna L. Parker

Edna Lois Parker, 72, of Cuero, died Saturday, August 17, 2002.
She was born on July 4, 1930 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania to the late Asher Reuben and Edna Mae Bliler Overdorf. She was a real estate secretary and broker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jessie C. “jake” Parker of Cuero; daughter Cynthia Wiley of Monroeville, Ohio; step-sons, Dwayne Parker and Jim Parker of Cuero, and Kenneth Parker of Victoria; one grandchild; 8 step-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
No services are being planned. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Ida Janet Frels

Ida Janet Frels, 90, of Cuero, died Friday, August 16, 2002.
She was born June 2, 1912, in Concrete, to the late Charles Edward and Emilie Storch Frels. She was a clerk with Federal Reserve Bank of San Antonio for 30 years. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in San Antonio.
Survivors: brother, Herbert Frels of Cuero.
Preceded in death by: parents; and sister, Frieda Molina.
Services were Monday, August 19 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Mt. Calvary Dr., in San Antonio, the Rev. Kim Devries officiated. Burial followed at Memory Gardens of Cuero, the Rev. Steve Byrne officiated. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Ed Koehler, Carl Roberts, Finley Frels and Dr. John Frels.
Memorials: Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or donor's choice.

Maggie G. Harryman

Maggie G. Harryman, 94, of Yoakum, died August 17, 2002.
She was born in Lavaca County on March 25, 1908 to the late Anton John and Rosa Hattenbach Glowka. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Leslie Elaine Powers of Yoakum, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, James Landrum Harryman; daughter, Margaret Steen; parents; sisters, Anna Glowka, Katy Schneider, Minnie Boone, Emma Moore, Elizabeth Steen; and brothers, tony Glowka and Walter Glowka.
The family received friends on Monday, August 19 at Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum. Services were Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Rev. Richard Bowden officiated.

Minnie Koehne Lange

Minnie Koehne Lange, 95, of Brenham, died August 16, 2002, in Trinity Care Center in Brenham.
Mrs. Lange was born May 26, 1907, in Washington County to Henry Sr. and Annie Jessie Koehne. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Jackie Lange of Cuero; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Franklin Haarmeyer of Brenham and Helen and Gilbert Gaskamp of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law, Annie and Rufus Lange of Brenham; five grandchildren and their spouses, Donna Haarmeyer, Gayle and Randy Kunkel, Kevin and Kerrie Lange, Patrick and Cindy Lange, and Randy and Tina Gaskamp; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaci Kunkel, Kolin Kunkel, Rheagan Gaskamp, Gavin Gaskamp, Kendyl Lange, Kenna Lange, and Kenzi Lange.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie Lange; daughter, Willie Mae Gaskamp; five brothers; and four sisters.
The Family received visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Saturday, August 17. Funeral services were Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill, Dr. Sue Beall officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham, (979) 836-4564.
Pallbearers: Kevin Lange, Patrick Lange, Randy Kunkel, Randy Gaskamp, Kolin Kunkel, Gavin Gaskamp, Gayle Kunkel, Donna Haarmeyer, Rheagan Gaskamp, and Kaci Kunkel.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill.

Ocie Ella Nicely

Ocie Ella Nicely, 92, of Williamsburg, passed away Monday, July 29, 2002 in Genesis Family Care Center, White Sulphur Springs.
Born August 1, 1909, in Braxton County, she was the daughter of the late Warrick and Dora Barb Cogar.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trout Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Nicely; two grandsons, Curtis Nicely and Robert Hinkle; a great-grandson, Robert “Tinker” Hinkle; daughter, Nelva Zimmerman; and parents.
Survivors include daughter, Glenna Hinkle Taylor of Williamsburg; a son, Charles Nicely and wife Rose, of DeWitt County; 12 grandchildren, Roger, Delbert, Scott, Darrell, Joyce, Margaret, Linda, Debra, Donald, Larry, Denzil, and Chuck; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Services were Friday, August 2 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, Rev. Roger Williams officiated. Burial was at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.

Ida Timme Zengerle

Beloved wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, Ida Timme Zengerle, 89, of Cuero, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002.
She was born November 15, 1913 in Victoria to the late Robert Albert and Annie Alma Eisman Timme. She married Royal W. Zengerle on November 28, 1935 in Victoria. Ida at one time was owner/operator of Royal's Cafe in Cuero; was a floral designer for Ryan's Flower Shop and always a homemaker. She was a member of the Grand Order of the Sons of Hermann, St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Martha Group at St. Mark's.
Survivors are husband, Royal, of Cuero; son, and daughter-in-law, Roy T. and Karen Zengerle of Cuero; grandson, Todd Zengerle of Eddy; granddaughter, Laura Zengerle of Abilene; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Kyra Zengerle of Eddy; sister, Elizabeth Stehling of Victoria; and brothers, Oscar and Richard Timme, both of Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Willie Timme.
Visitation was Thursday, November 28 at the funeral home with funeral services on Friday, November 29, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero, with Rev. Steve Byrne officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, (361) 275-2343.
Pallbearers: Jim Rather, Richard Timme, Robert Timme, Jerry Pote, Rodney Rather, Toby Fredricks and Jeff Pote.
Contributions are requested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
