Walter George Schlenker

Walter George Schlenker, 82, of Westhoff, died Saturday, August 12, 2000.
He was born on March 26, 1918 in Westhoff to the late Carl Henry and Sophie Schumacher Schlenker, Sr. He was a farmer. John served in the U.S. Army and worked at the Cotton Mill in Cuero. He also worked at Gulf Coast Wood Products in Cuero. He was a member of St. John Luthern Church of Westhoff.
Survivors: wife: Laverne Hilbrich Shlenker of Westhoff; sons: Harland Schlenker of Cuero, Tommy Schlenker of Cuero; sister: Leona Konrad; and brother: Carl Schlenker of Cuero and five grandchildren.
Preceeded in death by: parents; sisters: Hilda Schlenker, Elsie Konrad, and Esther Nessel.
Pallbearers are Geral Hilbrich, Lynn Nessel, Bruce Montgomery, Carlton Konrad, Stanley Marburger, and Jeff Konrad.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Westhoff.

Virginia S. Fellers

Virginia S. Fellers, 75, of Cuero died Friday, August 11, 2000.
She was born February 14, 1925 in Hallettsville to the late Emma Kocian and Joe F. Sitka. She worked with Brentex Mills-Mt. Vernon Mills for 55 years as a Supervisor. She retired in September of 1999. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors: sisters: Tonie Brooks of Hallettsville and Helen Schoener of Victoria; brothers: Julius Sitka of Pittsfield, PA, Bill J. Sitka of Sugar Land; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceeded in death by: parents; husband, Charles Alton Fellers; and sister, Dorothy Hocutt.
A rosary was held Sunday at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating.
Funeral mass was held Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were D.W. Worthington, Harvey Schoener, Howard Brooks, Matthew Schoener, Mark Sitka, and Brian Sitka.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Hospice of South Texas, Yoakum.

Oliver F. Stevens

Oliver Fearl Stevens, age 84 of Yoakum died on Tuesday, September 26, 2000.
He was born September 17, 1916 in DeWitt County to the late Sterling George and Melinda Elizabeth Thompson Stevens.
He was a part-time Minister for the Church of Christ, song director, elder and bible teacher.
He received his business course in accounting from Baldwin Business College in Yoakum. He was a florist and nurseryman for some years after taking horticulture short courses from A&M.
He was active in civic affairs. Past president of Yoakum Chamber of Commerce, member of the Yoakum Lions Club and Hallettsville Rotary Club.
He was part owner and founder of Stevens Nursing Home in Yoakum, after selling out he went to Hallettsville and built Stevens Convalescent Center after receiving his administrator license from Wharton Jr. College.
In his retirement he sent many Bibles to foreign countries.
Survivors are: wife Leona Knippa Stevens, son Oliver Fieldon Stevens both from Yoakum and three grandchildren, Phil Stevens of Houston, Paula Jean Stevens Green of Leakey, Texas and Traci Jo Stevens of Yoakum and one great grandson, Carson Stevens Green of Leakey. Also survived by 3 sisters, Effie Stevens and Betty Bowe both of Yoakum and Ila Elkins from Midwest City, Oklahoma. 4 brothers, Hollis Stevens, Wesley Stevens, Ardie Ray Stevens all of Yoakum and H.A. Stevens of Austin.
Preceded in death by daughter, Paula Leona Stevens, parents, twin sister, Olive Belle Hughes and brothers, G.D. Stevens, Chesley Stevens and L.R. Stevens.
The funeral was held Friday at the Buffington Funeral Home with Don Stevens and Lainer Stevens officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice.

Dorothy M. Bond

Graveside services for Dorothy Milligan Bond, 85, of Alexandria, La., formerly of Cuero, were held Sunday at Hillside Cemetery, the Rev. Les Crawford officiating. She died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000.
Memorials: Emmanuel Baptist Church, 430 Jackson St., Alexandria, LA 71301 or to Alzheimer's Association 919 N. Michigan, Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611.
Dorothy Bond was past president of the Alexandria Garden Club, YWCA, Poets Circle, Matinee Music Club, Rose Society, La. Landscape Design-Critics Council, Eighth District Judges Council-Garden Club, and Ikenobo-Ikebana South Five Chapter Japanese Flower Arranging. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ladies Golf Association, Rapides Symphony Orchestra, DAR, and Ikebana international Chapter #87. Mrs. Bond was a professor of Ikenobo School and exhibited Ikebana in South Africa, Colorado, Louisiana, Japan, New York, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Survivors: sister, Tommie Tribble of Cuero; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Chester George Bond III; daughter, Virginia Phie Bond Maddox; son, Chester George Bond IV; parents; brother, Joe Wayne Milligan.
Arrangements were made by Hixson Brothers in Alexandria, and Freund Funeral Home in Cuero.

Raymond J. Ruthkowski

Raymond J. Ruthkowski, age 59 of Sheridan, TX died on September 29, 2000.
He was born December 15, 1940 in Cuero to the late Mr. and Mrs. Julius Ruthkowski.
He was a superintendent and painter and was employed at Craftsman Painting of Houston.
Survivors are: wife, Barbara Spayberry Ruthkowski. Mr. and Mrs. Ruthkowski were married on December 17, 1961. Surviving sisters include, Gwendlynn Ruthkowski of Columbus, Pauline Solomon of Sheridan, and brothers, Edmond Ruthkowski of Houston and Edward “Sonny” Ruthkowski of Cuero. Other survivors are his children Gwendlynn Ruthkowski of Sheridan, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tschoener of Jarrell as well as two step-grandchildren.
A memorial service at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus will be held on Friday, October 6 at 9:30 a.m., with a burial in Yorktown at 12:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Father Dan Kahlich and Father Frank Lenz will be presiding over the ceremony.
For those who can not attend the Mass in Columbus, there will be a Rosary in Corn Hill, TX at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church following the 6:00 p.m. mass on Thursday, October 5, 2000.

Patsy Garcia

Patsy Garcia, 50, of Austin passed away on October 26, 2000.
She was born in Cuero on March 13, 1950 to the late Robert and Mary Ruiz Santos. She resided in Victoria before moving to Austin 11 years ago. She was a 1968 graduate of Cuero High School.
Patsy was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a former board member. She helped as a Girl Scout Leader for six years. She was affiliated with the American Cancer Society and was a youth member for HACEMOS. Patsy was also the creator and publisher of “Especially For You”, a monthly newsletter. She was employed with Southwestern Bell for 30 years.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Kim Garcia of Austin and by here sister Cindy Martinez of Cuero. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Manuel Garcia and her son, Michael Garcia.
A holy rosary was recited on Sunday, October 29 at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Austin.
A mass was celebrated on Monday, October 30 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Rd. in Austin. The interment was at the Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria.
Pallbearers were Pete Martinez, Jr., Roy Rice, David Rice, David Lopez, Frank Ruiz and Jonathan Zielonka. Honorary pallbearers were Debra Buckingham, Maria Gonzales, Gina La Groane, Sally McPhaul, Connie Mullenix, Yolanda Muniz, Armando Perez, Julis Pina, Terry Reyes, Mary Lou Sanchez, Diana Vara, all co-workers of Southwestern Bell and all friends of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

George Mueller

George Mueller, 90, of San Antonio, and formerly of Nordheim, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000.
He was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Nordheim, to the late D.A. and Annie Helmers Mueller. He was retired from Pearl Brewery in San Antonio.
Survivors: wife, Marian Mueller of San Antonio; daughter, Loretta Carter of Adkins; sister, Olivia Tieken of Cuero; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; brother, Marcellus Mueller.
Services were Friday at Mission Park Funeral Chapel in San Antonio.
Burial was at Mission Park South Cemetery. Mission Park South Funeral Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Otto Baros

Henry Otto Baros, 86, of Westhoff, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000.
He was born March 22, 1914, in Westhoff, to the late Frank A. and Amalie Lukas Baros. He was a cattle rancher and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Westhoff. He was past president of SPJST Lodge No. 125 and was a member of the Westhoff Volunteer Fire Department and the Westhoff Cemetery Association.
Survivors: wife, Lu Ella J. Sauer Baros; daughter, Glenneth Bednorz of Schroeder; son, Frank Albert Baros of Westhoff; sister, Leona Caskey of Smiley; brothers, Bennie Baros, George Baros and Edwin Baros, all of Westhoff; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; brother, Julius Baros; and one grandson.
Services were Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Westhoff, the Rev. William Hill officiating.
Burial was at Westhoff Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: Scott Baros, Mark Baros, Tommy Baros, Jimmy Caskey, Steven Kraatz and Greg Bunjes.
Honorary pallbearers: August Schulle, Joe Boston and Dr. Mark Heard.
Memorials: St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund in Westhoff.

Morris A. Hanke Jr.

Morris A. Hanke Jr., 76, of Cuero, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000.
He was born July 16, 1924, in Cuero, to the late Morris and Helen Blaschke Hanke Sr. He was a retired clerk at the U.S. Postal Service and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a member of Herman Sons, VFW Post No. 3972 and APWU. He was a former Little League baseball coach.
Survivors: daughter, Wanda Boehl of Flour Bluff; sons, Morris Hanke III of Mission Valley and Charles E. Hanke of Pasadena; brother, Larry Hanke of Gonzales; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: wife, Margaret Dimaline Hanke; parents; brother, Erich A. Hanke.
Services were held Sunday at the Freund Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Steve Byrne officiating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: Ryan Harris, Stacey Talbert, Larry Hanke, Jr., Norman Hanke, "Chuck" Boehl and Sam Hanke.
Memorials: donor's choice.
