Paul F. Hahn

Paul Frank Hahn, 82, of Cuero, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Westhoff, to the late Thomas W. and Emma Schulle Hahn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked 35 years for Weber Motor Company. He was a member of Cuero Volunteer Police Department and St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3972 and a rancher.
Survivors: special friend, Patsy Brown of Victoria; daughter, Beverly Lincke of Cuero; son, Byron Hahn of Victoria; sister, Edna Markmann of Westhoff; and one grandchild.
Preceded in death by: wife, Elleen Dreyer Hahn; one infant son; and brothers, George Hahn, Herman Hahn, and Robert Hahn.
A rosary was recited Sunday, Feb. 22 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel, Deacon Byron Heyer officiated. Services were Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiated. Burial was at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Meyersville. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Byron Paul Hahn Jr., David Heyer, Kenneth Hahn, James Hahn, Jerry Dreyer, Bob Thaxton, Monroe Rieger, and Kay Drake.
Honorary pallbearers: Mary Rieger, Crystal Cowen, James Hutcherson, Charles Hahn, George Hahn, Vanessa Rangel, Dr. Elisa Payne, Cuero Nursing Staff, and Hospice Staff.
Memorials: St. Michael's Catholic Church Building Repair Fund or Hospice of South Texas.

Juanita Bustos Mendoza

Juanita Bustos Mendoza, peacefully went to her rest Feb. 20, 2004.
She was born in Cuero on June 27, 1929 to Juan Bustos and Cecilia Martinez Bustos. She lived most of her life in Corpus Christi. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. For many years, she enjoyed her past-time with dear friends at Greenwood Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joe Bustos; her first husband, Eleseo Gonzales; and second husband, Simon Mendoza.
She is survived by two sons, Rene (Ester Gonzales, Ruben (Virginia) Gonzales; two daughters, Angie (Jay) Ruiz and Rosie (Reymundo) Rosas; one sister, Alberta Garcia of Stafford, Arizona; three brothers, Hillario (Elida) Bustos of San Antonio, Pedro (Ruth Bustos and Angel (Pilar) Bustos; aunt, Cecilia Hernandez; nine grandchildren, Rene B. Gonzales, J. Frank Gonzales, Rachel Gonzales, Christi (Sergio) Esquivel of North Carolina, Lisa Gonzales, David Gomez, Valerie, Gabriella, Marcus Ruiz; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 22 at Memorial Funeral Home Holly Chapel. Rites of Christian burial were celebrated on Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment followed at Rose Hill Memorial Park. Memorial Funeral Home, Corpus Christi, 361-857-6291.

Mildred Marie Holt

Mildred Marie Holt, 96, of Cuero, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004.
She was born in Lindsey, Oklahoma, on Dec. 2, 1907 to the late Claude and Emily Rain.
She is survived by her daughters, Maxine Smock of Cuero and Oteka Schmoker of Harlingen; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Claude Holt; son, Charles T. Tounley Jr.; five sisters; and four brothers.
Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Leona Urban Davis

Leona Urban Davis went to be with her Lord on May 23, 2003.
She was born April 30, 1916, to Gus F. and Emma Linbrugger Ziemer.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milen Urban; son, Loyd Wayne; granddaughter, Jennifer Janecek Oswald; brother, Roland Ziemer.
Survived by husband, W. H. "Bill" Davis; daughter, Helen Jo Janecek; son-in-law, Bill Janecek; grandsons, Jon Janecek, Jeffrey Janecek and wife, Linda, their sons Will and Wes; Lou Oswald and wife, Crystal, their children Scott, Sara, Ali, Louis, and Jackson; step-children, H. O. and Rosario Davis, Garvis and Carolyn Davis, Ann and Gene Patterson, and John and Brenda Davis; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was described by all who knew her as a sweet, loving person who was always ready to help. She loved gardening, baking bread, cinnamon rolls and decorating cookies. She used hammer and saw as easily as she did needle and thread and loved to play dominoes. Most important was her Bible, devotionals and inspirational books. She was always optimistic with great faith and trust in her Lord.
Prayer services were held at Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 27. The funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Goliad. Graveside services were Wednesday in Yorktown.
Pallbearers: H. O. Davis, Garvis Davis, Jeffrey Janecek, Jon Janecek, Bill Janecek, and E.J. Bammert.

Francis E. Wesley

Francis E. Wesley, 53, of Cuero, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003.
She was born July 3, 1949, in Corpus Christi, to Sellivan Rought of California and Eliza Williams Battles of Cuero. She was a nurse and member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors: husband, Freddie Wesley of Cuero; daughters, Lisa M. Williams-Townsend of Austin and Robinn L. Wesley of Houston; parents; stepfather, Thaddeus Battles Sr. of Cuero; sisters, Helen Battles-Ross of Round Rock, Emma Walker of Houston, and Carolyn Battles of Converse; and brothers, Sidney Battles of Corpus Christi, Thaddeus Battles Jr. of Round Rock, Ricky Battles of Cuero, and Lewis Rought and Sellivan Rought Jr., both of Fresno, California.
Visitation was Friday, May 30 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. Services were Saturday at First Baptist Church in Cuero, the Rev. Elvin Johnson Sr. officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Thomas R. Williams, Thomas J. Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Roy Green, Terry Moss, Willie C. Green Jr., and John “Stockie” Mathis.

Joseph Washington Ross

Joseph Washington Ross, 80, of Meyersville, died Saturday, May 31, 2003.
He was born June 14, 1922, in Corpus Christi, to the late Jewel Washington and Annie Mae Smith Ross. He was a carpenter and World War II veteran (1942-1946), serving in the U. S. Navy.
Survivors: wife, Dorris Jennings Ross of Meyersville; daughters, Jody Prince of Corpus Christi, Janet Trammel of Rockport, and Kathy Hooge of Meyersville; sister, Eva Ingram of Meyersville; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Charles O. Moore Sr.

Charles O. Moore Sr., 82, of Meyersville, passed away May 30, 2003.
He was born December 26, 1920, in Pickerington, Ohio, to the late Frank P. and Mary Mae Bader Moore. He spent 7 years in civil service. He worked at the Meyersville Store for 8 years. He was a member of VFW #3972, American Legion Dinter Post 3, Cuero Masonic Lodge #409 AF & AM, and a volunteer for the Meyersville Fire Department.
He is survived by wife, Ruth Egg Moore of Meyersville; sons, Steven Poage of Ft. Stockton, Charles O. Moore Jr. of Ennon, Ohio, and Robert E. Moore of Meyersville; sisters, Kathryn George and Bonnie Law, both of Lancaster, Ohio, and Carolyn Hoffman of London, Ohio; brothers, Frank Moore of Newark, Ohio, and Richard Moore and Wayne Moore, both of Lancaster, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and brother, Bill Moore.
Visitation was Sunday, June 1 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were Sunday at the funeral home, the Rev. Nick Wagner officiated. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Memorials: St. John's Lutheran Building Fund or donor's choice.

Elmer Glynn Carter

Elmer Glynn Carter, 77, of Cuero, passed away June 2, 2003.
He was born June 14, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Charlie W. and Alice Cox Carter. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp and the U. S. Airforce for 24 years, during which he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was the Building Trades Teacher for the Cuero Independent School District, a rancher, and owner-operator of Carter’s Pecan Grove. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, Cuero Young Farmers, Cuero Industrial Foundation, Cuero Chamber of Commerce, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Arnelda Gohlke Carter of Cuero; daughter, Glynda L. Schulle of Cuero; son, Charles A. Carter; sister, Louis Clay of Lawton, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 3 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Steve Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Memorials: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or Bluebonnet Youth Ranch.

Robert Colburn

Robert Colburn, 47, of Cuero, died Sunday, June 1, 2003.
He was born in Corpus Christi on August 23, 1955 to Robert Hugh Colburn and Odelia Marie Flores Rush. He was an R. N. at Cuero Community Hospital and Agency Nursing and a Paramedic certified in ACLS and PALS.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Colburn of Tallahassee, Florida; step-daughter, Crystal Michelle Patterson of Tallahassee, Florida; sons, Robert James “Bobby” Colburn Jr. of Cuero and Jonathon David Crisman of Tallahassee, Florida; father, Robert Hugh Colburn of California; mother and step-father, Louis J. and Odelia Maria Flores Rush of Aransas Pass; and sister, Debra Lynne Rush of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Joseph Colburn.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 3 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Steve Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
