Olga R. Wieland

Olga R. Wieland, 96, of Yorktown, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
She was born July 31, 1907 in Thomaston, to the late Charles and Augusta Stoeltje Roth. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown and a member of the women's circle for many years. She was a homemaker and a rancher. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved cooking, reading, playing dominoes, and dancing.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Carlton Bolting of Yorktown; sisters, Lottie Wieland and Cleo Wieland of Yorktown and Elizabeth Chiles of Alice; brother, George Roth and wife Nell of Houston; grandsons, Steven Bolint and wife Mercy; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, and Christopher of Nordheim; and granddaughter, Shellie Miller and husband Bret and great-granddaughter Kylie of Sugar Land; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by husband, Alfred Wieland; parents; sisters, Leona Belitz and Minnie Dowd; brothers, Ben and Joe Roth.
Visitation was held Friday, April 2 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home in Yorktown. Services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Rev. Patti Byrne officiated. Burial was at Westside Cemetery in Yorktown. Arrangements by Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, Texas 361-564-2277.
Pallbearers: Larry Vasbinder Sr., Larry Vasbinder Jr., Michael Albrecht, Troy Wieland, Don Wieland, and Donald Jansky.

Dewey E. Cox Jr.

Dewey E. Cox Jr., 69, of Nordheim and formerly of Victoria, died Sunday, March 28, 2004.
He was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Oak Cliff, to the late Dewey E. Sr. and Margie Smith Cox. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion. He was a retired iron worker.
Survivors: companion, Mary Ann Motes of Nordheim; daughters, Sherry Simpson of Llano and Trecy Johnson of Dallas; stepdaughter, Robbie Cummins of Nordheim; son, J. C. Cox of San Antonio; stepsons, Bobby Motes and Rodney Motes, both of Nordheim; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step-great-grandchild.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 30 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Services with full military honors, under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA, and the KWV, were Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Don Howell officiated. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 361-573-4546.
Honorary pallbearers: Tom Turner, Ed Voght, Johnny Napolez, Jim Burta, and Roy Reno.

Caroline Ridyolph

Caroline Ridyolph, 54, of Cuero, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
She was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Cuero, to the late John Clarence and Vera Lee McKene Ridyolph. She was a housekeeper and member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors: sisters, Estella Johnson of Cuero, Annie Thompson of Corpus Christi, Theresa Jackson of Victoria, and Viola Ingram of Las Vegas; brothers, Melvin Patton of Houston, Haywood Washington and Clarence Ridyolph, both of Cuero, Rufus Ridyolph of Victoria, and Richard Ridyolph and Johnny Ray Ridyolph, both of Corpus Christi.
Preceded in death by: sons, Avery Ridyolph and Ladell Ridyolph.
Visitation was Friday, April 2 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at L.E. Meador Encampment Grounds, the Rev. Sam Jenkins officiated. Burial was at Lockhart Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Grace W. F. Walch

Grace Wacker Forster Walch, 89, of Victoria, died Friday, March 26, 2004.
She was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Victoria, to the late Otto and Goldie Naslund Forster. She was a clerk for Central Drug and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors: daughter, Sylvia Ann Mueller of Cuero; step-daughter, Gwen Walch of New Braunfels; son, Gary Wacker of Victoria; step-sons, B. L. Walch of Ganado, Alan Walch of Aransas Pass, and Conrad Walch Jr. of Houston; sisters, Dora Mae Frances of Kerrville and Anna Belle Jackson of Houston; brothers, Melvin Forster of Beeville and Lindy Forster of Port Lavaca; four grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by first husband, Lloyd Wacker; second husband, Conrad Walch; sisters, Viola Bush, Ruby Wilborne, and Irene Rhodes; and brother, Raymond Forster.
Visitation was Sunday, March 28 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapels. Services were at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pastor Barney Matocha officiated. Burial was at Memorial Park. Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, 361-578-3535.

John W. Armbruster

John W. Armbruster, 67, of Cuero, died Thursday, March 25, 2004.
He was born in Belvidere, Illinois, on February 28, 1937, to the late William Frederick and Gladys Pundt Armbruster. He was a manager of apartments and a dairy farm. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Dinter Post #3.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra D. Barron Armbruster; daughter Theresa Gantt of Beach Island, South Carolina; sons, Steven Armbruster of Round Rock, Robert Armbruster of Pennsylvania, and John Wayne Armbruster of Waldin, New York; sister, Vivian Smith of Harvard, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Armbruster and William Armbruster.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 9 at Trinity Chapel in Cuero, the Rev. Jim Lillard officiated. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Ruth M. T. Owen

Ruth Meneley Tumlinson Owen, 85, of Cuero, died Saturday, March 27, 2004.
She was born June 5, 1918, in Gonzales, to the late John C. and Margaret Carleton Menely. She was a LVN in Andrews for 20 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors: daughters, Mary Elizabeth Knight of Temple, Ruth Ann Kelsey of Cuero, and Jennifer Malecki of LaPorte; sons, Charles Tumlinson of Grand Prairie and John Peter Tumlinson of Cuero; step-daughter, Margie Cocanaugher of Sweetwater; step-sons, Earl Tumlinson of Winnona, Minnesota, and Floyd Tumlinson of Sweetwater; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: first husband, Charles Clint Tumlinson; second husband, L.B. Owen; step-son, James Tumlinson; and grandson, John Clint Colston.
Visitation was Monday, March 29 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Ron Welborn officiated. Burial was at Floyd Chapel Cemetery in Gonzales County. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Christian E. “Skip” Sitterle II

Christian E. "Skip" Sitterle II, 67, of Magnolia, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002.
He was born January 22, 1935, in Victoria, to the late Christian E. “Boots” Sr. and Carrie Newman Sitterle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a paratrooper. He was a masonry contractor, a member of AARP, and a Baptist.
Survivors: wife, Betty Valigura Sitterle of Magnolia; daughters, Lisa Lynch of Houston and Monica Lowe of Magnolia; sister, Talu Ann Carlton of Shreveport, La.; and four grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: daughter, Tammie Ann Sitterle; parents; and brothers, John W. Luddeke and Henry E. Luddeke Jr.
Graveside were Friday, August 2 at Hillside Cemetery, the Rev. Dr. Glenn Robertson officiated. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Roland A. Pieper

Roland Alfred Pieper, 78, of Cuero, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002.
He was born March 17, 1924, in Ander, to the late Louis J. and Agatha Luder Pieper. He was a truck driver and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion in Cuero and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors: wife, Eulah Pieper of Cuero; daughters, Vicky O'Hara of Fort Benton, Mo. and Judy Kenner of Great Falls, Mo.; son, Randy Pieper of Forks, Wash.; step-son, Dennis Snellenberger of Austin; sister, Irma Nell Schustereit of Victoria; brother, Edmund Pieper of Schroeder; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; and sister, Lenora Roell.
A memorial service was held Sunday, August 4 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Rev. Steve Byrne officiated.

Theodore R. Bulgerin Jr.

Theodore (Ted) Reinhold Bulgerin Jr., 59, of Cuero, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002.
He was born May 23, 1943, in Guadalupe County, to the late Theodore Reinhold and Louie Lambert Bulgerin. He was a 1961 graduate of Seguin High School. He served in the U. S. Arm (two tours in Vietnam). He was a lifetime member of the VFW No. 3972 in Cuero. He loved music and will be remembered as a drummer in several country western and rock and roll bands.
Survivors: sister, Dorothy Jean Jeffers and her husband J. C.; his brothers, Jimmy R. Bulgerin and wife Helen and Weldon Roy Bulgerin and wife Peggy; sister-in-law, Geraldine Bulgerin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents; and brother, Bobby Joe Bulgerin.
Visitation was Monday, August 5 at Goetz Funeral Home chapel. Family visitation was also Monday at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services and interment were Tuesday at the Dugger Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Honors Detail Post #245. Goetz Funeral Home, Seguin, 830-401-0771.

Jerrau Griffin

Jerrau Griffin, son of Johnell and Barbara Griffin, died Saturday, August 3, 2002 in Austin. He was formerly of Cuero. Services are pending. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Susan T. Frels

Susan Todd Frels, 59, of Cuero, died Saturday, October 19, 2002.
She was born April 15, 1943, in Corpus Christi, to the late Jefferson Davis Jr. and Crescenz Smith Todd. She graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi in 1961 and attended Del Mar College. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Southwest Texas State College in 1965. She was a home economics teacher in Pleasanton, Floresville, Rockport, and Devine, and taught elementary in Yoakum and Cuero from 1979-2001. She was a teacher at St. Ludmila Elementary School in Shiner and a life member of Texas State Teachers Association. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and needlework.
Survivors: sons, Jonathon D. Frels of College Station and Matthew W. Frels of Cedar Park; and sister, Jane Chancellor.
Preceded in death by: husband, Daniel H. Frels; and parents.
Visitation was Monday, October 21 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited Monday at the funeral home chapel. Services were Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Rev. Michael Lyons officiated. Burial was at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Petersville. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Daniel H. Frels

Daniel H. Frels, 62, of Cuero, died Saturday, October 19, 2002.
He was born June 3, 1940, in Yoakum, to the late Herman John and Bertha Hoser Frels. He graduated from Cuero High School in 1957 and from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 1960 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education. He taught in Pleasanton, Floresville, Rockport, Devine, Yoakum and taught band in Cuero from 1979-2002. He took many students to solo and ensemble contests and directed many Division I sweepstakes bands. He was a member of Comal Community Band in New Braunfels, Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Association of Texas Small School Bands, and the Cuero Gobbler Booster Club. He was a Catholic.
Survivors: sons, Jonathon D. Frels of College Station and Matthew W. Frels of Cedar Park; and brother, James Frels of Yoakum.
Preceded in death by: wife, Susan Kay Todd Frels; and parents.
Visitation was Monday, October 21 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited Monday at the funeral home chapel. Services were Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Rev. Annie B. Salinas

Annie B. Salinas, 85, of Yoakum, died Monday, October 14, 2002.
She was born in DeWitt County on October 3, 1917 to the late Leo and Mary Natividad Escobedo Bustamante. She was retired from Textile and Restaurant Industries (she was the owner of a restaurant and a spinner at a cotton mill). She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose Lee Calderon of Yoakum; son, Sammy Salinas of Victoria; four grandchildren, Donna Calderon, Samantha Salinas, April Salinas, and Sammy Salinas Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Troy Garrett Knox, Jathon Palacio, and Dylan Medina; sisters, Guadalupe Anzaldua of Cuero, Gloria Reyes of San Antonio, and Ruth Quinterro of Cuero.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fermin Salinas; parents; sisters, Trinidad Gonzales, Flora Serna, and Cita Sosa; and brothers, Sevrio Bustamante, Albert Bustamante, Lucas Bustamante, and Leo Bustamante Jr.
Funeral services were Thursday, October 17 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Rev. Michael Lyons officiated. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Joe Calderon Sr., Jasper Quinterro Jr., Fred LaGrega, David Knox Jr., John Rodriguez, Freddie Guerrero, Ricky Perez, and Frank Cervantes.
