ALLIE M. SKILLERN
Funeral services for Allie M. Skillern, 83, of Los Angeles, CA formerly of Longview, were held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at House of Winston Memorial Chapel in Los Angeles, CA. Burial was in Veterans Cemetery in Los, Angeles. Arrangements were under the direction of House of Winston Funeral Home in California with local directions by Victory Funeral Services.
Allie M. Skillern was born Dec. 20, 1921 to George “Capt” Washington and Safronia Sibley Stoker.
She married Lawrence Skillern June 26, 1944. She lived in Seattle, Washington in the early 1940s and moved to Los Angeles in 1945. She was one of the first women to apply as a police officer in Los Angeles, but society was not ready for female officers. She went on to pursue her education in nursing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Prenon Stoker; three sisters, Betty Ann Stoker, Clara C. Moss, Lurine Stoker Moss.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Skillern; daughter, Gwendolyn Skillern Sherrard; sister, Woodie Carroll; brother , Vernon and Betty Stoker of Longview; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

ORVILLE (SKIP) BRANDT
Funeral services for Orville (Skip) Brandt, 94, of Garland are pending with Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Brandt passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in Garland.

JOHN WAYNE CARROLL
John Wayne Carroll, managing editor of the Kilgore News Herald, died at the veterans hospital in Shreveport Saturday afternoon. He died of cancer.
John was 57 years old. He was born June 14, 1947, in San Antonio.
He was a U.S. Marine. John earned a Purple Heart for wounds he received while serving in Southeast Asia and was a rifle sharpshooter.
After his discharge from the service, John became a newspaperman. He served as editor and manager in Gonzales and served as an editor in both Temple and Abilene before joining the Kilgore News Herald last summer.
John will be buried beside other veterans at the National Cemetery in Houston.
He is survived by his father, Bill Carroll; two brothers, Bob Carroll of Houston and Joseph Carroll; a sister, Carmen Yvonne Carroll, a niece and two nephews.

CARLTON ANTHONY
Services for Carlton “Mr. Gabby” Anthony of Longview are pending with Bigham Mortuary. Mr. Anthony died Tuesday at his residence.

JOYCE LORECE SCHENCK
Services for Joyce Lorece Schenck, 78, of Kilgore were 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Bro. Done Beebe officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore City Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mrs. Schenck died Sunday afternoon at the Willows in Kilgore.
Pallbearers were Phillip Headrick, Terry Green, Mike Green, Jackie Green, Scottie Galyon and Mike Pyle.
She was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Cass County, the daughter of the late Mack and Ada Bufford. She had worked at several small grocery stores and was a private sitter. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Kilgore.
Survivors include her stepson, Harland Joe Schenck and his family of Louisiana; two sisters, Maggie Richardson and a twin sister Joy Headrick, both of Kilgore; three nieces; five great-nephews; three great-nieces; and 12 great-great-nieces and nephews.

MYRA JANE OGDEN HOLLAND
Services for Mrs. Myra Jane Ogden Holland, 82, of Kilgore will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in the Chapel of the Rader Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Waddle and Bill Widener officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mrs. Holland went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, June 27, 2004 in Kilgore.
She was born July 18, 1922 in Virgil, Kan. Mrs. Holland moved to Kilgore in 1932 from Kansas during the Oil Boom with her family where she attended Kilgore High School. She married Horace G. Murphy Jr. in 1941 and they had one daughter, Janice, and then became widowed in 1943. Later in 1945 she married Floyd Leaman Clements who had four children, Billy, Richard, Betty and Tommy. She and Floyd then had three children of their own, Rebecca, Larry and Mike. She became widowed again in 1963. Mrs. Holland then married Allen Thomas Holland Jr. in 1966 and became widowed in 1992. She was also a member of the First Church of God.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Jan and Leslie Thurston of Kilgore,
Becky and Travis Barton of Lake Cherokee, Larry Clements of Kilgore, Mike and Amy Clements of Kilgore and Tommy Clements of Lake Cherokee; four grandchildren and their spouses, Dea and Kathy Thurston of Kilgore, Micah and Tina Thurston of Kilgore, Stoney and Debbie Lake of Gladewater and Michael Clements of Kilgore; six great-grandchildren, Bryan Thurston, Chandra Thurston, Brent Thurston, Micah Thurston, Matt Thurston and Amy Hollingsworth; three sisters, Billie Vines of Livingston,
Donna Lily of Midland and Kathrine White of Kilgore; and one brother, Lewis Ogden of Childress.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Church of God, 2922 Green Hills Drive, Kilgore, Texas 75662.

Funeral services for Joe Sanders of Longview are pending at Victory Funeral Services of Kilgore. Mr. Sanders died Monday, June 28, 2004 at a Longview hospital.
ANTHONY WILLIAMS
Funeral services for Anthony Ray Williams, 46, of Kansas City, Mo., are pending at Victory Funeral Services of Kilgore. Mr. Williams died Thursday, June 24, as the result of an automobile accident.

Services for Joyce Hunter, 68, of Kilgore are pending at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mrs. Hunter died Monday, June 28, 2004 in Kilgore.

JAYLON HOLMGREN
Graveside services for Jaylon Jerome Holmgren, one week old infant son of Joel and April Holmgren, will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jamee Holmgren officiating. Jaylon died Sunday, June 25, in a Longview Hospital.
He was born June 21, 2004 in Kilgore. Jaylon is survived by his parents, Joel and April Holmgren of Kilgore; grandparents, Renee and Fernando Garcia of Kilgore and Annette and Jamee Holmgren of Kilgore; great-grandparents, Evelyn Gough of Kilgore, Monica Rios of Denver, Colo., Geronimo Garcia of Colima, Mexico, Leo and Jackie Conroy of Brainerd, Minn., and Charles and Judy Holmgren of Upsala, Minn.; and numerous aunts uncles and cousins.

H.M. BOUNDS JR.
H.M. Bounds Jr., 55, of Overton died Friday, June 25, after a sudden illness. Cremation arrangemens are under the direction of Burrows Overton Funeral Home.
Mr. Bounds was born Dec. 19, 1948 in Monahans to Henry Matthews Bounds Sr. and Anita Nelda Slatton Bounds. He graduated from Kermit High School and attended A&M. He moved to Overton 25 years ago from Mineral Wells.
Mr. Bounds’ hobbies included wood carving, landscaping, wood working and crafts.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Bounds of Overton; a son, Matt Bounds of Whitehouse; two daughters, DeAnne West and Candice Melton of Overton; a brother, John Bounds of Breckenridge; two sisters, Nelda Ditto of Mineral Wells and Penny Hopkins of California; grandchildren, Myranda Bounds, Karisa Bounds, Austin Bounds, Levi West, Lexie Melton and Carlie Melton.
In keeping with Mr. Bounds’ request, there will not be any services.

AMANDA BIDDLE
Services for Amanda Biddle, 19, of Kilgore will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Liberty City with the Rev. Bruce Wells officiating. Miss Biddle died Sunday, June 27, in Kilgore.

She was born Jan. 1, 1985 in Baton Rouge, La. Miss Biddle attended school at Sabine High School where she was a cheerleader and played on the varsity softball team. She was highly motivated and independent when it came to her schoolwork.
Miss Biddle was also named the football sweetheart and most beautiful at the prom. She was a student at Kilgore College where she wanted to study criminal justice to become an agent for the FBI.
She is survived by her mother, Kerri Lynn Arthur of Kilgore; father and step-mother, Michael Dale and Vicki Biddle of Beaumont; sister, Lauren Biddle of Kilgore; grandparents, Jerry and R.V. Arthur of Houston, Cliffor Eugene and Betty Joyce Biddle of Kerrville; five aunts and uncles, Rob and Priscilla Arthur of Spring, Lisa Arthur of Magnolia, Craig and Denise Arthur of Houston, Rick and Jerry Biddle of California and Kevin and Amy Biddle of San Antonio; and a host of cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, at the Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

BILLIE VANMETER
Services for Billie VanMeter, 76, of Kilgore were 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Beebe officiating. Burial was at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. VanMeter passed away Wednesday, June 23, in Kilgore.
Pallbearers were Sam Hale Jr., Jeremy Houchins, Joe Wiggins Jr., Frank Wiggins, Nickolaus VanMeter and Donald Sabastian.
Mrs. VanMeter was born Aug. 7, 1927 in Jenkins to Alex and Birdie Wacasey. She was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Josephine Pritchett; and brother, Gene Wacasey.
She is survived by her husband, Frank VanMeter of Kilgore; five children and their spouses, Judith and Roger Naomi of Firestone, Colo., Charlotte Gill of Winnfield, La., Charles and Jan VanMeter of Longview, Debbie and Bob Smith of Henderson and Steve and Donna VanMeter of Kilgore; two sisters, Doris Coldiron and Shirley Hankins; seven brothers, John Wacasey, Franklin Wacasey, Floyd Wacasey, Sammy Wacasey, Curtis Wacasey, “Shorty” Wacasey and Alex Thomas Wacasey; nine grandchildren, Sam Hale Jr., Jeremy Houchins, Joe Wiggins Jr., Frank Wiggins, Kaci Sebastian, Christy Mullins, Courtney Robbins, Caitlin Smith and Nickolaus VanMeter; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

REVEREND JIM REYNOLDS
Services for the Rev. Jim Reynolds, 79, of Kilgore were 2 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004 at Trinity Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Roger Hoffpowier, Carol Turner and Jack Shultz officiating. Full military honors followed at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Longview. Rev. Reynolds died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at his home.
Pallbearers were members of the U.S. Army from Fort Hood, James “Jim” Reynolds, John Reynolds, Levy Reynolds, Emmett Reynolds, Ryan White, Cedric White, Nathan Featherly and Cody Walker. Honorary pallbearers were William Satterwhite, Jerry Keasler, Steve Stephenson, Dan Bunt, Charles Croft and Charles Horn.
He was born Oct. 25, 1924 in Kilgore. Mr. Reynolds was a graduate of Sabine High School. He worked for his father in the construction business before he joined the U.S. Army in World War II. Rev. Reynolds was a career Army man. He fought in WWII and Korea. Rev. Reynolds retired after 30 years in the military as a chief warrant officer 4. He was a Methodist minister who started preaching in 1956. Rev. Reynolds served many churches including Grange Hall, Lagrones Chapel and his current assignment in Noon Day and Scottsville United Methodist Church. He loved his work as the coordinator for the “Primetimers” at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Kilgore.
Rev. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Erma Walker Reynolds of Kilgore; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Dennis (Jim) and Theresa Reynolds of Longview and John and Sue Ann Reynolds of Henderson; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Cedric White of El Paso; two step-sons and their wives, Roy “Butch” and Belinda Walker Jr. of Joinerville and Donnie and Delores Walker of Palestine; one step-daughter and husband, Diane and Clyde Featherly of Kilgore; four sisters, Elaine Reynolds of Kilgore, Lola Sumrow of Kilgore, Barbara Foy of Abilene and Beth Howell of Lavita, Colo.; brother, David Reynolds of Baton Rouge, La.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaWanda Faye Reynolds, and his son, Byron Clay Reynolds.
