Emory Durrett
Memorial services for Emory Durrett, 67, of Gladewater will be two p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Roberta Ingersoll and Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Mr. Durrett died Saturday, November 8, 2003 in Tyler, Texas.
He was born December 28, 1935 in Dallas, Texas to Woody and Imogene Durrett. Emory was a lifelong Presbyterian. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Dallas, Texas. Mr. Durrett served our country in the United States Marines. He attended North Texas State University in Denton. Emory went to work for CBS in Dallas and New York before he began his 23-year international career with Motorola. In mid-life Mr. Durrett obtained his baccalaureate degree in organizational behavior from the University of San Francisco. He earned his master degree in organizational management for Regis University in Denver. Emory used his education to become a worldwide human resources consultant to Motorola and others. He and his wife Melody moved to East Texas in May of 1997. Mr. Durrett was a facilitator for the East Texas Workforce Commission, helping the unemployed develop the skills needed to obtain jobs. Emory was very active in the AA program, where he received his 18-year chip this past summer.
He is survived by his wife Melody Durrett of Gladewater; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Wayne Johnson of San Diego, California; a son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Stephanie Durrett of Berkeley, California; two step-sons and their wives, Scott and Cathy Rich of Livermore, California, Gregory and Carole Rich of Enmclaw, Washington; brother and sister-in-law, John and Marjory Durrett of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening between six and seven-thirty p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas, Alcoholics Anonymous, or the American Lung Association.

Dick Griffin
Memorial services for Dick Griffin, 84, of Kilgore will be eleven a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Mr. Griffin died Monday, November 10, 2003 in Kilgore.
He was born in Kilgore, the Danville Community to Leon Adams and Spark Dickson Griffin on January 8, 1919. Dick was a 1936 graduate of Kilgore High School. He attended Kilgore College and obtained a baccalaureate degree from SMU. Mr. Griffin served our country in France as a Major U. S. Army during WWII. After the war he and Ed Dickson bought Parts Headquarters in Kilgore, which they operated until their retirement. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and an elder. Mr. Griffin served on numerous boards, including the Past President of the Kilgore Independent School District, Kilgore First National Bank and Kilgore Federal Savings and Loan.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Masters Griffin of Kilgore; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Weir Wilson of Fort Worth, Mandy Griffin of Fort Worth; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Verlyn Griffin of Fort Worth, Earl and Rocky Griffin of Lake Cherokee; one brother, Mills Griffin of Kilgore; six grandchildren, Walker Wilson of Fort Worth, Carrie Pancoast of Berkley, California, Matt Griffin of Lake Cherokee, D.L. Griffin, III, Fort Worth, Aaron Griffin of Fort Worth, Alexa Griffin of Fort Collins, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Zoe Pancoast; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1216, Kilgore, Texas 75662 or the Laird Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1612 South Henderson Boulevard, Kilgore, Texas 75662.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Uman Fouche.

Eula Bell Hirt
Services for Eula Bell Hirt, 62, of Conroe, Texas will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Harry LaGrown officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Moriah Cemetery. A present sent to us by God, Bell has completed her task here on earth and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at her home in Conroe.
She was born May 8, 1941 in Calion, Arkansas daughter of the late William Mosley “Bill” and Carrie Loviner Smith Harris. Mrs. Hirt had been a resident of Conroe since 1985 formerly of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kilgore. She was a member of Fellowship of The Woodlands Church. Mrs. Hirt had worked as a real estate agent for many years. Bell will be remembered as a beloved wife, sister and friend.
Mrs. Hirt is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Hirt of Conroe; three sisters, Anita Ferry of Price, Texas, Mairlyn Hale of Corpus Christi, Texas and Jean Gaydos of Youngsville, North Carolina; three brothers, Bud Harris, Sonny Harris and J.D. Harris all of Kilgore, as well as a host of other relatives and countless friends. Bell was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Loviner Harris.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening between seven and nine p.m.

Nell Suratt Strickland
Services for Nell Strickland, 96, of Kilgore, will be two p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Donald Beebe and Reverend Frank Mathews officiaiting. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Longview, Texas. Mrs. Strickland died Sunday, November 16, 2003 in Kilgore.
Mrs. Strickland was born July 30, 1907 in Leonard, Texas. She moved to Kilgore in 1934. Mrs. Strickland was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. She retired after working 38 years with Beall Brothers. Mrs. Strickland was a member of the B.P. and W. (Business Professional Women) where she received her 50-year pin. Mrs. Strickland was a member of the Pilot Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Gough of Kilgore; two brothers, G. R. Surratt of Humble, Frank Surratt of Silsbee; nine grandchildren, Harold G. Strickland, II of Fredericksburg, Bebe June Chandler of Houston, Judy Christopher of Houston, Marvin Strickland of Katy, Romy Gough, III of Kaufman, Fred Gough of Kilgore, Logan Howell of Longview, Renee` Garcia of Kilgore, Debbie Burroughs of Bucklin, Missiouri; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, thirty great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; a son, Harold; a grandson, John Gough; and a great-great granddaughter, Maleena Michelle Loredo.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Tuesday evening between six and seven-thirty p.m.

Tanya A. "Turner" Oden
Services for Mrs. Tanya A. “Turner” Oden, 35, of Tatum will be two O’clock in the afternoon Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Frank Mathews and Kenneth Charles officiating. Burial will follow at the Harris Chapel Cemetery in Tatum, Texas. Mrs. Oden died Saturday, November 15, 2003.
She was born at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview on December 21, 1967 to J.C. and Georgia Turner. Mrs. Oden worked as a surgical technician at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Her mother Georgia Turner precedes her in death.
She is survived by her husband Dean Oden of Tatum, Texas; son D.J. Oden of Tatum; father and his wife J.C. and Dee Turner of Kilgore; sister and brother-in-law Tamra A. and James Garner of Kilgore; niece Samantha Garner of Kilgore; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. G.J.E. Turner of Kilgore; mother-in-law Lennie Brewington of Tatum; aunts and uncles Peggy Mooneyham of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen C. Booth of Houston, Texas, Joe Mooneyham of Medina Lake, Texas; many cousins and other loving family members.

Edgar Leon Brown
Graveside services for Mr. Edgar Leon Brown, 81, of Kilgore will be two o’clock in the afternoon, Saturday November 22, 2003 at Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Brown passed away Tuesday morning at his home.
He was born January 27, 1922 in Rome, Georgia to the late Ferrell and Romye Brown. Mr. Brown grew up in Winters, Texas and graduated from Spade H.S. in 1941. He was retired after 35 years of service from American Supply Co. in Kilgore. Mr. Brown continued to work after retirement with A.E. Robertson Specialty Co. of Kilgore. Mr. Brown was a member of the San Angelo Masonic Lodge #28. Mr. Brown also served in the United States Army during WWII.
Preceding Mr. Brown in death are his parents and one brother.
He is survived by his wife Betty Brown of Kilgore; step-son and wife Dan and Lindeen Shipler of Ft. Worth; two sisters and a brother-in-law Virginia Cole of Hobbs, NM and Nita and Fred Hinz of Leveland; two sisters-in-law Eilene and Doyle Darby of Tampa, FL and Gertrude and Tom Van Devender of Seattle, WA; two brothers-in-law Ronnie and Teresa Slade of Gladewater and Clarence and Edna Mae Slade of Independence, IA; one aunt Hazel Bagdett of Winters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family.
The family of Mr. Brown will receive friends Friday evening from seven until nine p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

Gene Clary
Services for Gene Clary, 46, of Kilgore, will be ten a.m., Monday, November 24, 2003 at Grace Baptist Church with the Reverend Donald Beebe officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Cemetery in Kilgore. Mr. Clary died on Monday, November 17, 2003 in Stockton, California.
He was born in Kirbyville, Texas on September 25, 1957 to Kenneth and Barbara Clary. Mr. Clary was a truck driver and worked for Buckley’s Trucking Co. in Sulfur Springs, Texas.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Angela Clary; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and John Marmon of Monnett, Missouri; father and step mother Kenneth and Carolyn Clary of Kilgore; mother Barbara Allen of Bonwire, Texas brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Alice Clary of Kilgore; two sisters Anna Alford of Bonwire, Tammy Chapman of Bonwire; step brother Ricky Passmoore of San Antonio, Texas Leigh Ann Passmoore of Tatum, Texas; four grandchildren, one nephew, and many loving friends.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Sunday afternoon between two and four p.m.

Kathy Maxwell
Graveside services for Kathy Maxwell, 45, of Kilgore will be ten a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2003 at the Pirtle Cemetery, Rusk County, Texas with Pastor Paul Klewer officiating. Ms. Maxwell died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in Longview.
She was born August 12, 1958 in Pasadena, Texas. Ms. Maxwell was raised in the Kilgore/Longivew area. She was employed in the records department at Laird Hospital. Ms. Maxwell was a member of the East Texas Church on the Rock.
She is survived by her son, Curtis Cunningham of Laird Hill; a brother, Mike Williams of Kilgore; and a host of friends.\
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Friday evening between five and seven p.m.

Mickey Joyner
Graveside services for Mickey Joyner, 45, of Marysville, Ohio, formerly of Kilgore will be two p.m., Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Strong Cemetery, Rusk County, Texas with Pastor Curtis L. Wood officiating. Mr. Joyner died unexpectedly Monday, November 17, 2003 in Marysville, Ohio as the results of a brain aneurysm.
He was born September 19, 1958 in Tyler, Texas. Mr. Joyner attended Kilgore public schools.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Vickie Joyner of Marysville, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Alisha and Sean Bixby of Henderson, Texas; two grand children, Hayden and Haley Bixby of Henderson; three brothers, George Joyner of Red Springs, Don Joyner of Kilgore, Ricky Joyner of Marysville; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon between four and six p.m.
“You left us so quickly, but your job on earth was done. Big Paw, thank you for the love and laughter.”

Caroline Ross
Memorial services for Caroline Ross, 67, of Kilgore will be two p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Ms. Ross died Saturday, November 22, 2003 at her home.
Caroline was born December 26, 1935 in Kilgore to Sam W. and Ruth Florey Ross.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home, Monday evening between five and six-thirty p.m.

Dink Nowlin
Services for Dink Nowlin, 68, of Kilgore will be ten a.m., Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Buddy Duggins officiating. Mr. Nowlin passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at his home in Kilgore.
He was born October 23, 1935 to Otis and Oma Lee Nowlin in Wright City, Oklahoma. Mr. Nowlin’s family moved to Kilgore in 1948. He attended Kilgore public schools and Kilgore College. Mr. Nowlin served our country in the U. S. Army from 1956-1958. He was a member of Forrest Home Baptist Church, the Kilgore J.C.’s, and the American Petroleum Institute.
Dink is survived by his wife, Cyndy Nowlin of Kilgore; three sons, Barry Nowlin of Austin, Corey Nowlin of Austin, and Stacy Nowlin of Spicewood; his mother, Oma Lee Nowlin of Kilgore; three grandchildren, Nikki, Seth and Deric Nowlin; a niece Lucynda Shippey of McKinney: a nephew Todd Beane of Richardson and a sister-in-law, Nita Beane of Irving.
The family will receive friends at their home, 3904 Forest Hills, Kilgore.
