Carol Vermilyea Simpson, 62, of Spurger, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at her home.
A memorial service was held in Spurger on Monday, June 21 with burial in Laguna Beach, CA under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville.
A Southeast Texas resident since 1970, she retired as director of the Beaumont Association for Senior Citizens in 2002.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Simpson of Spurger; sons, James Simpson of Hemet, CA, Corey Simpson of Brazoria and Brian Simpson of San Diego, CA; sister, Linda Stoddard of Cameron Park, CA; and two grandchildren.
Sherry Gaspard
Sherry “Candy” Gaspard, 59, of Lafayette, LA, died Monday, June 28, 2004 in Lafayette.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, June 30 at Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home also in Carencro with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
A native of Silsbee, she lived in Lafayette most of her life and was a former Director of Acadiana Crisis Pregnancy Center in Lafayette.
Survivors include son, R. Lane Gaspard of Lafayette; daughters, Keisha Gaspard Ryan and Summer C. Bagwell, both of Lafayette; mother, Daisy Bell Morgan of Bay St. Louis, MS; sisters, Judy Gay Greene of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Linda Joy Ricks and Bonnie Bell Saul, both of Poplarville, MS; and three grandchildren.
Everett Gordey
Everett Lawrence Gordey, 83, of Kountze, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care in Silsbee.
Funeral service was held Sunday, May 30 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont with military honors.
A native of Melder, LA and a longtime resident of Kountze, he was the owner of Gordey’s Industrial Manufacturing Co. in Silsbee. He was also a United States Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include his son, Lawrence Earl Gordey of Kountze; brother, Douglas Gordey of Beaumont; sisters, Beatrice Guffy of Alexandria, LA and Jolene Wheaton of Moss Hill; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Ruby Deer
Ruby Dell Deer, 76, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Saturday, May 29 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery also in Silsbee.
A native of Mississippi, she was a retired clerk with Eckerd Drugs.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey L. Deer Jr. of Beaumont; daughter, Linda Crites of Silsbee; brother, R.D. Fenn of Phoenix, AZ; and one grandchild.
William Crosby Jr.
William Jessie Crosby Jr., 67, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at his home.
Funeral service was held Saturday, May 29 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery also in Silsbee.
He was a lifelong area resident and a wood chip truck driver. He was also a United States Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Valta Crosby of Silsbee; son, Mitchell Crosby of Marshall; daughters, Lisa Pierson and Tina Dixon, both of Silsbee; step-mother, Annie Crosby of Silsbee; sisters, Pat Moss of Lonoke, AR, Gail Winger of Silsbee, Carolyn Nicholes of Colmesneil and Evelyn Cater of Splendora; brothers, Johnny Hodge of Nacogdoches, Lynn Crosby of Silsbee and Glen Crosby of Houston; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Geraldine Gattis
Geraldine Gattis, 78, of Evadale, died Thursday, May 27, 2004.
Funeral service was held Sunday, May 30 at Friendship Baptist Church in Buna under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oakdale, LA.
A native of Oakdale, LA, she had lived in Evadale 45 years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Valarin Gattis; daughters, Joyce Jones and Janet Gillentine, both of Evadale; brother, John Strother of Oakdale, LA; sister, Peggy Perry of Loxley, AL; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service for Jena Griffis Medlin, 27, of Easley, SC, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Buna.
Survivors include her son, Hawk Medlin of Easley, SC; parents, Howard and Shirley Griffis of Buna; brother, Richard Griffis of Buna; and grandparents, Estelle Griffis of Buna and Norma and Fuzz Matthews of Silsbee.
