Rita Irene Hancock
Rita Irene Hancock, 68, of Nocona, TX passed away on November 17, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Hancock was born on September 4, 1934 in Kilgore, TX to Thomas Haskell and Loyce Amanda Maxey McMackin. She married Tommy Louis Hancock on May 12, 1956 in Azle, TX. Mrs. Hancock worked at Prairie Valley School as a Teacher’s Aide and was also a hairdresser for many years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hancock were held on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Bud Townsend and Rev. Keith Barbee officiating.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Tommy Louis Hancock, Nocona, TX; two children, Joe Tom Hancock, Nocona, TX, and Billy Jack Hancock, Topeka, KS; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: Ricky Howard, Garry Young, Jim Keck, Foogie Foster, Tom Foster, Toby Howard, Sammy Gordon Howard and Randy Womack. Honorary pallbearers included: Cecile Keck, Matt Brown, Sam Keith Howard and Donnie Davis.

Carl Meinard "Boobie" Walterscheid
Carl Meinard "Boobie" Walterscheid, 64, of Muenster, TX passed away on November 18, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Walterscheid was born on December 24, 1937 in Muenster, TX to Alois Peter and Catherine Loerwald Walterscheid. He married Patsy Jayne Hamilton on October 31, 1959 in Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Walterscheid had worked as a carpenter, cement worker, steel worker, service station operator and for Cooke County. His main profession was that of Environmental Health Inspector, inspecting septic systems in a new home. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Knights of Columbus and was a Charter member of the Muenster Junior Chamber of Commerce.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Muenster, TX with Rev. John Ohner, O.S.A. officiating. Interment was held in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Pat Walterscheid, Muenster, TX; three daughter, Brenda Leon, Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, Carla Klement and Stacie Bartel, both of Muenster, TX; one son, Darren Walterscheid, Muenster, TX; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Endres and Ginny Schneider, both of Muenster, TX; and one brother, Willie Walterscheid, Muenster, TX.
Pallbearers included: Bob Endres, Terry Walterscheid, Rodney Hess, Tim Schneider, Renate Pagel, Sandy Luetge, Aaron Klement and Kim Walterscheid.

Sanford Owens
Sanford Owens, 78, of Sunset, TX passed away on November 14, 2002 at August Healthcare in Bridgeport, TX.
Mr. Sanford was born on July 16, 1924 in Sunset, TX. He married Lorraine McIntyre on May 18, 1946 in Walnut Creek, CA. He was a realtor and a member of Sunset Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mr. Owens were held on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Church of Christ with Loyd Morris officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Lorraine Owens, Sunset, TX; one daughter, Tina Owens, Santa Fe, NM; one son, Dana Owens, Bowie, TX; one sister, Helen Owens, Sunset, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Scott Tompkins
Michael Scott Tompkins, 43, of Gainesville, TX passed away on November 20, 2002.
Mr. Tompkins was born on January 8, 1959 in Bowie, TX to Bobby Joe and Helen Marie Evans Tompkins. He married Gwendolyn Kay Poyner on March 1977 in Montague, TX.
Funeral services for Mr. Tompkins were held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Muenster, TX with Rev. John Hollis officiating. Interment was held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Cooke County, TX.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Jennifer Stewart, Gainesville, TX; one grandchild; his parents, Bobby Joe Tompkins, Bowie, TX and Helen Tompkins, Muenster, TX; one sister, Sabra Robertson, Bowie, TX; and one brother, Joey Tompkins, Gainesville, TX. Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Tompkins, and one daughter, Jessica Tompkins.
Pallbearers included: Terry Ward, Chad Schroeder, Randy Wilson, Michael Stewart, Chris Kuhn, and J.D. Dunn.

Gwendolyn Kay (Poyner) Tompkins
Gwendolyn Kay (Poyner) Tompkins, 43, of Gainesville, TX passed away on November 20, 2002.
Mrs. Tompkins was born on August 21, 1959 in Nocona, TX to Billy Poyner, Sr. and Frances Imogene Dennis Poyner. She married Michael Scott Tompkins in March 1977 in Montague, TX. She was a mortgage banker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tompkins were held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Muenster, TX with Rev. John Hollis officiating. Interment was held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Cooke County, TX.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Jennifer Stewart, Gainesville, TX; one grandchild; her mother, Frances Poyner; one sister, Carla Borgman, The Woodlands, and one brother, Billy Poyner, Jr., Saint Jo, TX. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Poyner, Sr., and one daughter, Jessica Tompkins.
Pallbearers included: Terry Ward, Chad Schroeder, Randy Wilson, Michael Stewart, Chris Kuhn, and J.D. Dunn.

Lois May Hall
Lois May Hall, 82, of Bowie, TX passed away on November 13, 2002 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hall was born on September 25, 1920 in Gainesville, TX. She married Jack Hall on March 14, 1941 in Bowie, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bowie. Mrs. Hall was also a member and co-founder of the Friends of the Bowie Public Library and a member of the Friday Bridge Club.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hall were held on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Bowie, TX with Dr. Charles Aaron officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Tim Hall, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Becky Austin, Bowie, TX; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: Greg Underwood, Gayno Shelton, Jon Swofford, Jack Dow, Bert Cunningham, Raymond Clement, Mike Sanders, Jason Jaynes and Dale Dow.

"Bud" Alligood
"Bud" Alligood, 68, of Bowie, TX passed away on November 19, 2002 at United Regional Health Care Center in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Alligood was born on September 2, 1934 in Glenwood, GA. He married Ruby Fay Griffith on August 17, 1974 in Bowie, TX. He was a driller in the oil industry and a member of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 in Bowie, TX. Mr. Alligood served in the U.S. Army.
Graveside services for Mr. Alligood were held on Friday, November 22, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. Interment was held in Tage Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Fay Alligood, Bowie, TX; two sisters, Vertie Shepard, Henrietta, TX and Mattie Lou Howell, Macon, GA; one brother, Ray Alligood, Milan, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Raymond Cooper, Bowie, TX; one sister-in-law, Frances Askins, Denison, TX; and one aunt, Hattie Griffith, Pottsboro, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Alligood in 1967 and Annie Lou Alligood in 1973; and one brother, Luther Jordan Alligood in 1970.
Pallbearers included: Richard Gardner, Bruce Barber, James Smith, James Scruggs, Randall Heugatter, Norman Ingram and Alan Miller. Honorary pallbearers included: Junior Haney, Bob Haney and Gary Redman.

Grady Glenn "Jiggs" Young
Grady Glenn "Jiggs" Young, 66, of Amarillo, TX passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2002.
Mr. Young was born on April 10, 1936 in Nocona to Stanley and Pearl Young. He earned his living trading horses, but evolved into a career as a rodeo clown and bullfighter. He was well known in that capacity in Texas and Oklahoma and with a partner, Perry Williams of Kermit, extended their work to rodeos throughout the western United States. For the past decade, he had owned and operated Many Trails, an Indian Trading Post outside Flagstaff, Arizona.
Funeral services for Mr. Young were held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Nocona Church of Christ Church in Nocona, TX. Services were directed by Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Liz Young, Amarillo, TX; three sons, Delbert, Burlington, CO and Adrian and Wyatt Young, Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Glenda, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Dura Young, Wichita Falls, TX and Lanita Zachry, Abilene, TX and one brother, Garry, Nocona, TX.
Pallbearers included: Perry Williams, Hank Zachry, Donnie McCool, Adrian Young, David Bagley, and Zachary Williams. Honorary pallbearers included: Sam Tipton and Thomas Tipton.
