Opal Luell Carlile Dale
Opal Luell Carlile Dale, age 83, of Ryan, OK, passed away July 17, 2003.
Mrs. Dale was born August 11, 1919 in Wise County, TX to Lewis and Edna Carlile. She married Elvin Dale in Addington, OK.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dale were held Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Assembly of God church in Ryan, OK with Paul Ratliff officiating. Interment was in Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Johnny Dale, Ryan, OK; one sister, Edna Osborne, Chickasha, OK, four granddaughters; Beverly Evans, Gainesville, TX, Sue Cason, Rita Chambers and Kathy Brinkley all of Bowie, TX; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Dale in 1972 and one daughter Loriene Terry in 1989.
Pallbearers included: Stanley Barnes, Dewayne English, Rick Phillips, David Underwood, Duane Wade and Curtis Plant.

Leslie Yerby
Leslie Yerby, age 99, of Bowie passed away September 28, 2003 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Yerby was born August 5, 1904 in Alvord, TX to Eliza Jane and John Lee Yerby. He married Georgia Lee Nichols on April 28, 1934 at Park Springs, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie. He worked for Lone Star Gas for four years in Petrolia, TX and worked as a foreman of the Bob Pendleton Ranch which was seven sections of land, in Stratford, TX. He was a carpenter and home builder in Bowie for many years.
Funeral services for Mr. Yerby were held Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. and Fry Funeral Home Chapel in Bowie with Rev. C.A. Johnson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Reta Ann Vanbebber, Denton, TX; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one brother, Jimmie Yerby, Shawnee, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Lee Yerby on October 22, 1966; his parents, John Lee Yerby in 1955 and Eliza Jane Yerby in 1968; one brother, Becker Yerby in 1996; and two sisters, Mattie Yerby at 5 years of age, and Ethel Mac Zimmerman in 1999.
Pallbearers included: Chester Yerby, Curtis Yerby, Howard Yerby, Ralph Yerby, Gary Yerby, Jim Wright and John Yerby.

Mary Lou Hoffmeyer
Mary Lou Hoffmeyer, age 87, of Bowie, TX passed away September 29, 2003 at Bowie Nursing Center.
Mrs. Hoffmeyer was born April 29, 1916 in Valley View, TX. She married William Woodrow Hoffmeyer on December 21, 1936 in Cottle County, TX. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hoffmeyer were held Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Sally Raines, Bowie, TX; one son, Glenn W. Hoffmeyer, Perkins, OK; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Inez Holland, Bowie, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: Carl Raines, Joe Raines, Eric Raines, Nathan Raines, Sam Raines and Stone Balliew.

R.H. Boyd, Jr.
R.H. Boyd, Jr., age 77, of Nocona, TX passed away September 29, 2003 in Nocona, TX
Mr. Boyd Jr. was born November 12, 1925 in Ringgold, TX to Jessie Inez Adams and Roscoe H. Boyd Sr. He married Loretta May Pounds Boyd September 20, 1946. He worked for Tenneco Oil and Operations, Inc. in all areas of oil field productions. He served in the United States Navy during WWII.
Funeral services for Mr. Boyd, Jr. were held Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Nocona. Interment was at Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls, TX, with Bro. Oc Harper of Wichita Falls officiating.
Pallbearers included: Ken Nelson, Gerald Russell, Clyde Whiteside, Frank Collier, Danny Boyd and Louis Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers included: Lewis Leeper, Doug Doughtery, Phil Boyd, Adam Boyd and Lloyd Bouldin.

Allyson Grace Cox
Allyson Grace Cox, infant, of Alvord passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services for Miss Cox were held Friday, October 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Percy A. Parrish officiating. Interment was at Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her parents, Nancy Jane (Trayler) and Gary Don Cox, Alvord, TX; grandparents, Paul and Betty Trayler, Forestburg, TX and Odessa Cox, Decatur, TX. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Jack Cox.

James Ray Spivey
James Ray Spivey, age 48, of Bowie, TX passed away October 4, 2003 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Spivey was born February 8, 1955 in Nocona, TX to Ila Sue and Harold F. Spivey. He worked as a welder at Gibbins, Inc. in Bowie for twelve years. He was a long time welder in the oil field.
Funeral services for Mr. Spivey were held Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie with Rev. Jamie Reed and David Hall officiating. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Erica Nicole Spivey, Bowie, TX; his mother, Ila Sue Spivey, Bowie, TX; two sisters, Arlinda Miller, Bowie, TX and LaQuitta Pierce, Vernon, TX; one brother,Charles Spivey, Duncan, OK; special friend, Loretta Johnston, Bowie, TX; and numberous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold F. Spivey in 1999 and one brother, Harold Wayne Spivey in 1950.
Pallbearers included: Deryl Sanders, Charlie Patterson, Joe Sanders, Barney Jackson, Mike Sanders and Michael Miller. Honorary pallbearers included: Scooter Miller, Cody Burgett, Buster Sanders, Howard Pierce, Sam Allen, Chris Davis, Tommy Pierce, Kenneth Brown, Jason Burgett and John Turner.

Lee C. Russell
Lee C. Russell, age 88, of Bowie, TX passed away October 1, 2003 at Bowie Nursing Center.
Mr. Russell was born December 27, 1914 in Stroud, OK. He married Ella Mae Hamilton on July 11, 1933 in Ranger, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie where he was a member of the Gideon Sunday School Class. He served at director of the Adult Sunday School department at First Baptist Church. He was a former longtime resident of Ranger, TX where he was a member and served as a deacon and treasurer at First Baptist Church in Ranger. He also served as music director for several years. He served for 25 years as a member of the Board of Regents at Ranger College. He was active in Boy Scouts and the Rangers Lions Club. After his retirement from Occidental Petroleum, he worked in real estate and insurance.
Funeral services for Mr. Russell were held Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie, TX with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Peggy Lee Blanton, Bowie, TX; one son, David M. Russell, Burney, TX; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Jace C. Russell, Stroud, OK and one niece and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Russell on February 28, 1995.
Pallbearers included: Raymond Clement, Gayno Shelton, Larry Clarkson, Jeff Taylor, C.J. Howard and Larry Hargrove. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Gideon Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Bowie, TX.

Jan Smith
Jan Smith, age 64, of Bowie, TX, passed away September 7, 2003 at URHCC 11th Street Campus in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Smith was born December 6, 1938 in Grand Prairie, TX. She married Barney Joe Smith on May 25, 1985 in Bowie, TX. She worked in the food industry for many years before relocating to Bowie. She and her husband operated the canteen at the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post for 9 years until her retirement in 1992 and then were caretakers at the Boy Scout Ranch at Bowie for the nest seven years until they retired in 1999. She was a Christian and a member of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 Ladies Auxiliary.
Graveside services for Mrs. Smith were held Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Briar Creek Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. Services were under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Barney J. Smith, Bowie, TX; one son, Jimmy Conover, Mineral Wells, TX; three daughters, Pam Steele, Grand Prairie, TX, Connie Scott and Lena Tucker, both of Bowie, TX; father of her children, Jim Conover, Mansfield, TX; one step daughter, Sheryl Smith, Bowie, TX; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Summers, Red Oak, TX, Lance and Joey Summers, both of Dallas, TX; one step sister, Shelly Baker, Dallas, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: Richard Gardner, James Henry, Bill Large, Don Gardner, Norman Ingram and Clyde Henson.
