Ruby Louise Roper
Ruby Louise Roper, 89, of Bowie, TX, passed away November 25, 2004 in a Bowie nursing home.
She was born March 28, 1915 in Wise County, TX (near Alvord) to John William Richardson and Maude Dromgoole Richardson. In 1956, she married William A. Roper in Knox City, TX. Mrs. Roper was a cook, homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Graveside services were Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Nocona Cemetery with Rev. Scott Hamilton officiating. Jerry Woods Funeral Home directed the service.
Survivors include: sons Jerry Waldrip of Nocona, TX and Loyd Waldrip of Bowie, TX; daughters Allie Gaydon of Nocona, TX and Sandy Walsworth of Thackerville, OK; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Mrs. Roper was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Roper, one son, Rodney Lynn Waldrip and one sister, Samantha Funderburk.

Bonnie Lee Grissom
Bonnie Lee Grissom, 85, of Alvord, TX, passed away November 27, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
He was born April 14, 1919 in Alvord, TX to Ed and Hattie (Smith) Grissom. He married Velma Marie Frye on August 6, 1938 in Alvord, TX. He farmed all his working life on land close to his birthplace. His care and concern for all were felt throughout the family. He touched the lives of everyone he knew.
Funeral services for Mr. Grissom were Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alvord with Bill Cleveland officiating. White Family Funeral Home of Bowie directed the service.
Interment followed in Alvord Cemetery, Alvord, TX.
Pallbearers were Monty Nivens, J.H. Hartsell, Butch Patterson, Don Woller, Dan Williams and Tip Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Loyd Shoemaker, Charles Smith and D.J. Rater.
He is survived by: two daughters, Jeanette Morrison and husband, Talmage of Alvord, TX and Bonnie Kay Saunders of Alvord, TX; granddaughters, Angela Tamborello and husband, Sam of Highland Park, TX; Sheila Miller and husband, Rod of Justin, TX; and awaiting the arrival of his first great grandson; and one sister, Evelyn Sisk of Alvord, TX.
Mr. Grissom was preceded in death by: his wife, Velma Marie Grissom; two brothers, Clifton Grissom of Houston, TX and Willie Haynes Grissom of Alvord, TX; and one sister, Dorothy Nivens of Alvord, TX.

Joe Milton Curry
Joe Milton Curry, 72, passed away November 28, 2004 in Bowie, TX after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born August 20, 1932 in Altus, OK to L.L. and Verna (Jones) Curry. He married Betty Ensey Curry on August 9, 1952. He graduated from Vernon High School and attended South Western School of Banking at SMU and began his banking career in 1955 at Highland Park State Bank in Dallas. He continued his service with various banks in South Texas and was employed by the United States Treasury as Assistant National Bank Examiner. He ended his banking career at The Bowie Bank in 1998. Mr. Curry was active in many organizations, such as the Texas Master Gardener, Boy Scouts of America and various civic organizations. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie. He loved wood-working, gardening and cooking.
Funeral services were Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Drawing Room of White Family Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Henson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Betty Ensey Curry of Bowie; son, Steven Douglas Curry and his wife Lori of Boerne; daughter, Susan Elizabeth Curry of Denton; grandchildren, Steven, Jr. and Aaron Curry of San Antonio, TX, Samantha and Victoria Ryholt of Boerne, TX; three brothers, Larry Curry and his wife Mildred of Brooking, OR, Bob Curry and his wife Fran of Electra, TX and James Curry and his wife Betty of Post, TX.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rural Texas in Bowie.

Bessie Bettes Gregory
Bessie Bettes Gregory, age 91, of Sherman, TX passed away November 28, 2004 in Sherman, TX.
Mrs. Gregory was born March 23, 1913 in McClain, TX to Thomas Edward and Sallie Effie Davis Bettes. She married Richard E. Gregory.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gregory were held Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Nocona, TX with Rev. Lamoin Champ officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, TX under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Richard E. Gregory; one daughter, Sallie J. Gregory; one daughter in law, Betty Gregory; three grandchildren, David, Josh and Jacques; one sister, Luda Bettes Schwerdtfager; and one brother, Frank Bettes.

Floyd Patrick (Tobe) Specht, Jr.
Floyd Patrick (Tobe) Specht, Jr., 88, of Denton, TX, passed away November 27, 2004.
He was born June 10, 1916 in Vashti, TX to Floyd Patrick Specht and Fannie Powers Specht. Mr. Specht was retired district manager for Duke & Ayers after forty-two years. On June 8, 1941 he married Alyce Fae Steele in Marlin, TX. He was a deacon, elder and trustee in the First Presbyterian Church in Denton. Tx. He had been a resident of Denton since 1953. Mr. Specht served in WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps seeing duty in the China-Burma-India theater of war.
Funeral services were Monday, November 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Denton, TX.
A private burial was on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Vashti Cemetery, Vashti, TX. Fry Funeral Home of Bowie directed the service. Fry Funeral Home of Bowie, TX assisted with the services.
Survivors include: his wife, Alyce Fae Specht of Denton, TX; one son, Joe Specht and his wife Alice of Abilene, TX; one daughter, Melody and her husband, Roeland Kelly of Denton, TX; one sister, Virginia Bell Reaves of Vernon, TX; two brothers, Joseph Franklin Specht of Vashti, TX and Robert Specht of Haughton, LA; and two grandchildren, Patrick Kelly and Mary Specht.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Denton, TX or the donors favorite charity.

Jerry Sam Clifton
Jerry Sam Clifton, age 70, of Muenster died November 23, 2004 in Dallas, TX .
Mr. Clifton was born February 23, 1934 in Wichita Falls, Texas, he was raised and attended school there. Sam was the son of the late George and Omi Miller Clifton. After high school, he attended a junior college, then served a tour as a clerk in the Army. He then returned to college. Sam was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Muenster, a charter boat Captain for deep sea fishing, owner/operator of Clifton Auto Parts in Wichita Falls, and owner/operator of Clifton Oil in the Muenster area. He loved fishing with his grandchildren, traveling and gardening. Sam married Norma Jean Walterscheid November 18, 1983 in Cuero, Texas. They have lived in Muenster since that time.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. James Sheridan O.S.A. officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster.
Survivors include: his wife Norma Jean of Muenster; daughters Christi Ann Zorn of Houston, Gina Marie Wisdom of Crowell, and J.J. Johnson of Saint Jo; sons Clay Thomas Clifton of Wichita Falls and Mike Hofbauer of Spanish Fort; sister Dema Rae Morrison of Iowa Park; and 9 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother R.J. Clifton and brother-in-law Chester Morrison.
Pallbearers included: T.J. Walterscheid, Dick Pagel, Denny Bayer, Jared Hofbauer, Jake Hofbauer, and Greg Knabe . Honorary Pallbearers were Andrew and Tyler Zorn.

Elva Wayne Weatherread
Elva Wayne Weatherread, 60, of Nocona, TX, passed away at Wichita Falls United Regional on December 2, 2004.
He was born November 15, 1944 to William Adell and Allie Belle Oswalt Weatherread in Pecan Gap, TX. He was a truck driver for Sammons Company, but most of all he loved time spent with his family camping out at Nocona Lake.
Funeral service for Mr. Weatherread was on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. in Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. Les Ryan officiating. Scott Morris Funeral Home directed the service.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Ann Weatherread of Nocona, TX; two children, Nicole and India Atteberry, both of Nocona, TX and Randal Sampson of West Palm Beach, FL; four grandchildren; one sister, Dottie Jo Moore of Nocona, TX; one brothers, Charles Weatherread of Nocona, TX.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Allie Weatherread; one brother, “Strawberry” Weatherread; one sister, Joyce Breeze Webb; and one granddaughter, Jessica Stewart.
Memorials may be made to Scott-Morris Funeral Home to help with cost of service.
