Evelyn Marie Rector
Evelyn Marie Rector died Saturday, July 15.
She was born on April 12, 1922, to Walter and Ella Greene and grew up in Sanger with her parents and brother, Bill. After graduating from Sanger High School in 1938, Rector married Walter (Buck) Schertz, and they raised two young children together, Ronny and Trena. In 1950, she married Ray Rector and moved to Springtown. While in Springtown, she commuted to Texas Woman’s University in Denton until she earned a degree in teaching.
Rector taught for 28 years, retiring in 1985. She actively supported her husband, an agriculture teacher and coach, by hosting FFA trips and cookouts and working nights at concession stands for sporting events. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Rector is preceded in death by husband, Ray, in 1969.
Rector is survived by brother, Bill Greene and wife, Lil of Ft. Worth; son, Ronny Schertz of Sanger; daughter, Trena Poe of Springtown; grandchildren and families, Craig Schertz, wife Echo, and daughters, Twilight and Journey of Issaquah, Wash., and Katrena (TJ) Drake, daughter of Burton Poe, with husband, Chris of Dallas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 17, at White’s Funeral Home in Springtown.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 at White’s Funeral Home.
Burial: Springtown Cemetery.

Nicole Danielle Smith
Nicole Danielle Smith, 16, died Sunday, July 16, 2006. She was born April 2, 1990, in Fort Worth. Smith was an honor student at Aledo High School, a member of the Willow Park Baptist Church youth group and employed by Taco Casa. She enjoyed singing and dancing, and her passion was music.
Smith is survived by her mother, Tammy Taylor and husband, John of Aledo; sisters, Megan Taylor and Tara Taylor of Aledo; grandparents, David and Naomi Dunlap of Aledo, Mack and Janice Taylor of Hurst as well as several aunts and uncles.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at Willow Park Baptist Church.
Burial: Aledo Brown Cemetery, Aledo.
The family received guests from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aledo All Girls Choir, c/o Weatherford National Bank, 505 FM 1187, Aledo, 76008, Attn: Louis Sneed.

W.L. “Shorty” Hawkins
W.L. “Shorty” Hawkins, 87, of Weatherford, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at his residence.
Born October 14, 1918, in Seymour, he was a resident of Weatherford for many years. Hawkins was the retired owner of Hawkins House Moving, a veteran of the Army Air Force, a past Commander of the American Legion and a member of the VFW. He loved his family and his grandchildren.
Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Hawkins, two sons, Jim and Leroy Hawkins and a grandson, Thomas David Hawkins.
Survivors include daughters, Kay Hightower of Weatherford, Cheryl “Susie” Bailey and husband David of Weatherford and Karen Bailey and husband Harvey of Weatherford; son, Winston “Winky” Hawkins and wife Shirley of Weatherford, sister, Dorothy Hitt and husband Gordon of Ardmore, Okla.; special friend and companion,Yvonne “Little Red” Vernon of Weatherford; 33 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, July 17, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, in the North Side Baptist Church, Rev. Sonny Buckingham officiating.
Interment: East Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tenn., 38101.

Earl Clayton Johnson
Earl Clayton Johnson Jr., 79, of Weatherford, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, in Weatherford. Born March 31, 1927, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a resident of the Spring Creek Community for many years and of Weatherford for the last few years.
Johnson was Veteran of WWII, having served in Italy. Upon his return, Johnson graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He retired from General Dynamics in 1992 after 42 years of service and enjoyed his retirement traveling all across the United States in his Fifth Wheel.
Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ann R. Johnson.
Survivors include sons, E. Clayton Johnson III and wife, Monique of Weatherford, Paul Johnson and wife, Mariann of Houston and Scott G. Johnson and wife, Susan of Fort Worth; former daughter-in-law, Kim Johnson of Weatherford; grandchildren, E.C. “Clay” Johnson IV, Kathryn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Brian Johnson, Karin Raschkow, Rebecca Kimmons, Hali Fewell, Larkin Fewell and Michael Nesbitt.
Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
Interment in Spring Creek Cemetery.

Jean Richerson Adkins
Jean Richerson Adkins, 84, of Weatherford, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at a local hospital.
She was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Carver, Okla., the daughter of William Henry and Mae Gilbert Richeson.
Adkins was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lucille Maxwell, Elena Gooding; and brothers, Troy Richeson, Grady Richeson and L.D. Richeson.
She is survived by her sister, Bobbie DePrang of Williamston, Michigan.
Visitation: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford.

G. Ross Turner Jr.
G. Ross Turner Jr., 83, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Springtown. He was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Stratford, the son of George and Annie Ruth Lane Turner. Turner attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist's mate.
Turner was an avid golfer, auctioneer, loan officer, realtor, Methodist minister, stone mason, pilot, and poetry author.
Turner was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Georgia Miller and Dorris Pearson, and grandparents, John Gaut and Cynthia Hall Lane.
Survivors include wife, Claudette; mother-in-law, Beatrice Eddington; daughters, Lee Anne Snozek, Clariessa Sessel, Meleah Vandiver; sons, Mel Ross Turner, Lane Turner; stepchildren, Pamela, Glenna, Robert and Lonnie Neal; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rachelle Warren, Rosalie Johnson and Barbara Thompson.
Funeral: 2 p.m. on Friday, July 14, at White's Springtown Funeral Home.
Burial: Springtown Cemetery.

Edwin Becton “E.B.” Myre
Edwin Becton Myre, 81, died Thursday, July 6, 2006.
He was born in Greenville to James Hubert Myre and Pere Lee Myre on April 6, 1925. He was the youngest of thirteen children.
Myre joined the Marines May 27, 1942, and served in the Pacific twenty-six months during WWII, in New Zealand, Guada Canal, Bouganville, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was Sergeant of the Guards and served a total of four years. He married Lela Faye Boyd on November 21, 1953.
Myre received both a Bachelor of Arts and Master degrees from Baylor University. He served at Baylor University as Dean of Men and at Howard Payne University as Dean of Students before retiring from in 1992.
He was a proud and active member of the First Baptist Church, Weatherford, and the Open Door Sunday School Class since July 1994.
Myre is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lela Faye Myre; daughter and her husband, Sherry and Jerry Clinton of Weatherford; a son and his wife, Derek and Kerrie Myre; and three grandchildren, Amber, Lauren, and Zach of Springboro, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Monday, July 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at the First Baptist Church, Weatherford.
Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Weatherford.
