Carl Davis
1918-2004
SEMINOLE – Carl P. Davis, the stepfather of Keith Beck of Snyder, died Sunday, April 4, in Hospice Homplace in Tyler.
Funeral service for Mr. Davis, 85, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. H.A. Hanks officiating. Burial will follow in the Gaines County Cemetery South under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Born in Floydada, Mr. Davis moved from Lamesa to Seminole in 1928. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired assistant postmaster.
Survivors include his wife, Ireta Davis of Seminole; a son, Bill “Wig” Davis of Seminole; a daughter, Peggy Jones of Seminole; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bobby Burney
1935-2004
Bobby H. Burney, a lifelong resident of Scurry County, died Tuesday, April 6, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Burney, 68, is set for 4 p.m. Friday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Nov. 12, 1935 in Snyder, he was the grandson of Samuel and Ola Austin, Scurry County pioneers.
He was married to Barbara Johnson Burney for 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Burney, a graduate of Snyder High School, was a retired foreman for Oryx Energy and also had worked as an oilfield consultant.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burney of Snyder; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Danny Williams of Snyder and Valerie and Gary Martin of Seattle, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and JoAnn Burney of Snyder; four grandchildren, Veronica Williams of Lubbock, Vanessa Winkler and husband Banyan of Cotton Center, and Austin and Mallory Martin, both of Seattle, Wash.; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Winkler of Cotton Center; and his mother-in-law, Joy Johnson Richardson of Snyder.
Friends are contributing to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held from 8 to 9 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Mary Lois Creacy
1934-2004
CLYDE -- Mary Lois Petty Creacy, sister of Margie Brown of Snyder, died Wednesday, April 7, following a brief illness.
Service for Mrs. Creacy, 69, was held today at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.
Born on Aug. 17, 1934, she was educated in her hometown of Jal. N.M. She also had lived in Malta, Haiti and Norway. Mrs. Creacy retired after working 11 years at the Texas State School in Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Hale; her second husband, Linnie Lee Creacy; and one grandson, Joseph Shane Harbour.
She is survived by her children, Don L. Creacy of Kentucky, Linda Diane Morse of Abilene and Deborah Aileen Harbour of Louisiana; three brothers, Bill Petty of Florida, Sam Petty of Oklahoma and Frank Petty of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

K.P. Lofton
1916-2004
SWEETWATER -- K.P. Lofton Jr., a former Scurry County resident, died Sunday, April 11, in Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service for Mr. Lofton, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Ensminger officiating. Burial will follow in the Pyron Cemetery.
Born Sept. 7, 1916 in Fisher County, he married Lillie Mae Kinney in 1938 in Snyder. He lived in Hermleigh and farmed until 1994 when he retired and moved to Sweetwater. He had been a member of the Hermleigh Church of Christ and was a current member of Normandy Avenue Church of Christ in Sweetwater.
His parents, K.P. and Ethel Lofton; a brother, Vernon Lofton; and a sister, Era Dorden, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Lofton of Sweetwater; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Wayne and Peggy Lofton of Sweetwater; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Tommy Lillard of Mart; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Monte Dorden.
The family suggests memorials to the West Texas Rehab Center in Abilene or to the Normandy Avenue Church of Christ scholarship fund.

Marjorie Cox
1915-2004
MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Marjorie Griffith Cox, sister of Ross Blanchard of Snyder, died Friday, April 9, in Muskogee after a short illness.
Service for Mrs. Cox, 89, was held today at York Street Church of Christ in Muskogee. Burial was to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
She was born April 15, 1915 in Haskell, Okla., to Ross and Pearl Blanchard. After completing her education, she married Floyd O. Griffith in Muskogee. He died Sept. 4, 1977. She married Frank Cox who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cox was an employee of Vivas, working in retail and bookkeeping most of her adult life.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jack Blanchard.
Survivors also include five children, William Griffith of Muskogee, Jerry Griffith of Grand Rapids, Mich., Majorie Ferrell of Muskogee, Thomas Griffith of Lawton, Okla., Jean Farmer of Keefeton, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Earnestine Blanchard of Snyder; 16 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

John Derryberry
1932-2004
John Paul “Pod” Derryberry of Snyder died Sunday, April 11, in Snyder.
Graveside service for Mr. Derryberry, 71, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 9, 1932 in Loraine, Mr. Derryberry was a retired cowboy, bull rider, rodeo clown, and had worked on ranches throughout West Texas. He was an Army veteran and had served in Korea. Mr. Derryberry had lived in Snyder the past three years, moving from Lubbock where he had lived 15 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
His wife, Foy Bilbrey Derryberry, died in 2000.
Survivors include two brothers, Larry Don Derryberry and wife, Sherry, of Snyder and Sonny Derryberry of Edgemont, S.D.; four sisters, Bobbie Ray Moore of Midland, Louise Brimmer of Highmore, S.D., Paulette McCollum of California, and Sandra Kimsey of Texarkana, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Roberto Lopez
1991-2004
Roberto R. Lopez, a sixth grader at West Elementary, died at 4:38 a.m. today in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Rosary for Roberto, 12, is set for 7 p.m. today in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. Leo Mora, a family friend, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Roy Badillas of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and the Rev. Rudy Casta, pastor of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lamesa. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born July 8, 1991 in San Angelo with congenital heart disease, he had undergone successful surgery on Dec. 21, 1995 at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Roberto had an avid interest in computers, video games and movies.
Survivors include his father and mother, Jose L. and Maria Lopez of Snyder; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Maritza and Ubaldo Juarez of Snyder and Ginelda Lopez of Snyder; a brother, Jose Lopez Jr. of Snyder; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Humberto Candilario of San Angelo; two nieces, Andrea and Adriana Juarez of Snyder and Leo Mora, a brother in faith.

Monty Blakely
1936-2004
WAUSAU, Wisc. -- David Monty Blakely, a former resident of Snyder, died April 20 in Wausau after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service for Mr. Blakely, 68, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, in Restlawn Memorial Park and Cemetery in Wausau. It will be followed by a full military honors burial.
Born Nov. 16, 1936, he was the youngest son of Sherman and Maudie Blakely. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired in Wausau.
Mr. Blakely married Patricia Sebunia on Oct. 11, 1962 in Wausau. They returned to Snyder and he was employed by Higginbotham-Bartlett before moving back to Wausau.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Blakely of Wausau; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Don Huston and granddaughter, Elizabeth, of Wausau; three sisters, Shirley Payne of Lubbock, Iris Lynn Stewart and husband Leslie of Kerrville; and Islasu Minor and husband Rudy of Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Donald Palmer
1946-2004
LIBERTY -- Funeral service for Donald Palmer, a Snyder native, will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty.
Mr. Palmer, 58, was born on April 5, 1946, in Snyder to Teddie Lee and Oddest Franks Palmer.
He graduated from Snyder High School in 1964 and later attended Lubbock Christian College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Palmer retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety where he held a Special Rangers Commission. Mr. Palmer was currently employed by the Liberty Police Department, serving as commander of the Liberty-Chambers County narcotics task force. Mr. Palmer was a member of the Texas State Troopers Association, Department of Public Safety Association and the Texas Narcotics Officers Association. He also was a member of the VFW and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Liberty.
Mr. Palmer is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and a daughter, Tara Dawn Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Retha Palmer; two stepdaughters, Christie McBride, Carla Culver; a stepson, Randy Lemke; one brother, Kenneth Palmer; three sisters, Maurine Chandler, Judy Dempsey and Wilma Rogers; and three granddaughters, Jadyn Baragan, Jacie Culver and Haylee Lemke.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Services in Liberty.
