Ruby Mixon
1915-2004
Ruby Raye Mason Mixon was born to Ruby Ray (Doc) Mason and Clara Skillern Mason on Aug. 27, 1915 in Edgerly, Louisiana.
Her father worked for 43 years for Gulf Oil, living in Ranger, Texas where Ruby graduated from high school. Later the family moved to Breckenridge, Texas.
On November 8, 1938, Ruby married James Harvey Mixon in Sweetwater. Ruby worked for Gulf Oil in Odessa, J.C. Penney in Breckenridge and the Graham Brown Shoe Co. in Sherman.
The family came to Snyder April 11, 1948 when Jim became manager of J.C. Penney Co. He later purchased a business from Ernest Babb in 1954. This business was known as Mixon Tire and Supply for the next 24 years until Jim’s death in 1980. Ruby was employed by Conoco for 16 years until her retirement in 1990.
Ruby is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Stuart Long of Houston and Janice and Chuck Galloway of Snyder. Her precious grandchildren are Jim Cole of Midland, Meredith Long Angelico and husband Scott of San Antonio, Garret Long, a University of Michigan law student, and Brittany Long, a UT freshman.
Also surviving Ruby is her dear sister, Tera Crook of Arlington; and a wonderful brother-in-law, Toke Mansker of Ft. Worth. Her life was also blessed by the many cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends who loved her.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; her sister, Anita Mansker; and her brother, Milton Mason; all whom welcomed her to her everlasting home. Ruby brought laughter and joy to those who knew her and will be a most welcomed resident in her new home.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church in Snyder, where she was an active member for 56 years, or to a charity of your choice.
Service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Don Burns
1935-2004
GRANBURY -- Don Burns, a former resident of Snyder, died Sunday, Feb. 15, at his DeCordova home.
Funeral service for Mr. Burns, 68, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Acton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Acton Cemetery under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 13, 1935 in Pursley to Clyde and Mary Thrailkill Burns, he married Dixie Lee Kimmel on July 13, 1957 in Snyder.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Burns worked for Warren Petroleum for 41½ years before retiring to DeCordova Bend Estates 6½ years ago.
Mr. Burns, a member of the Acton Baptist Church, belonged to the Southwestern Football Officials Association and the Southwestern Basketball Officials Association where he officiated high school and college sports for 29 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie Burns of DeCordova; two daughters, Cindy Burns of Dallas and Becky Diaz and husband Ricky of Cypress; a son, Ron Burns of Albuquerque; two sisters, Jera O’Neal of Corsicana and Lynell Pollard of Snyder; and two grandchildren, Miles and Mason Diaz.

Robert Phillips
1918-2004
ABILENE -- Robert Mark Phillips, a former Snyder resident, died Monday, Feb. 16, in a Fort Worth medical center.
Service for Mr. Phillips, 86, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Bervin Casswell will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born Feb. 13, 1918 in Andrews, he graduated from Abilene High School in 1936. He continued his education at McMurry College and the University of Texas and married Roberta Ely in 1939.
Mr. Phillips was a pilot during World War II. He moved from Snyder to Lubbock in 1958 and then to Fort Worth in 2003.
His wife, Roberta Ely; two brothers, Samuel and J.W. Phillips; and a sister, Louise Neumann; preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Mark Phillips Jr. of Albuquerque and William Mark Phillips of Boston; a brother, Morris “Buster” Phillips; two sisters, Mable Phillips and Margaret Bounds; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Luther Rollins
1923-2004
ODESSA -- Luther Allen Rollins, a native of Scurry County, died Sunday, Feb. 15, at his home in Odessa.
Graveside service for Mr. Rollins, 80, was held Monday in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Born June 18, 1923 in Snyder, he married Viva May Wiggins on Oct. 26, 1945 in Snyder. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Viva Rollins of Odessa; three daughters, Sharon Nichols of McGregor, Susan Sledge of Kermit and Laura Duckworth of Odessa; a sister, Othell Trevey of Snyder; a brother, Joe Rollins of Snyder; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Emma Vasquez
1975-2004
Emma Vasquez, a former Snyder resident, died Monday, Feb. 16, in Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Rosary for Miss Vasquez, 28, is set for 7 this evening at the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Frank Ortegon officiating.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
She was born Dec. 17, 1975 in Hobbs, N.M., and was a resident of Odessa.
Survivors include her parents, Johnny and Hope Vasquez of Snyder; three brothers, Gabriel Vasquez, Anthony Vasquez and Johnny Vasquez Jr., all of Snyder; two sisters, Estella Gutierrez and Erica Rodriguez, both of Snyder; her fiancé, Richard “Ricky” Sauceda of Odessa; three nephews, Fabian, Arian and Avian Gutierrez; and two nieces, Alyssa Marie Sosa and Sierra Vasquez.

Patricia Burgess
1941-2004
Patricia Turner Burgess, a former Snyder resident, died Sunday, Feb. 15, at her home in Wichita Falls after a sudden illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Burgess, 63, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Dale Huff, minister of 37th Street Church of Christ, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale.
Born on Feb. 3, 1941 in Snyder, Mrs. Burgess was an auditor for the U.S. Government.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Wayne Turner of Abilene; one brother, Gordon Witherspoon of Georgetown; her step-parents, Pat and Margaret Johnston of Snyder; and three grandchildren, Michael Turner, Jeffrey Wayne Turner and Rachel René Turner.

Betty Morgan
1952-2004
Betty Jean Morgan, a former Snyder resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, at her home in Dallas.
Services for Mrs. Morgan, 51, are pending at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 1, 1952, Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker and had lived in Snyder for 16 years. She was a Jehovah Witness.
Survivors include five daughters, Theresa Ann Morgan of Snyder, Audrey Jean Echols of Wichita Falls, Latommie Michelle Morgan, Lashada Faye Morgan and Karen Denise Lane, all of Dallas; three brothers, Runnell Morgan and Tommy Lee Morgan, both of Dallas and Bud M. Morgan of Denver; six sisters, Rosenna Morgan, Carolyn Morgan, Jessie Mae Morgan, Lanette Morgan, Samamtha Morgan, Mary Ann Morgan and Billie Gene Morgan, all of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren.

Opal Eades
1910-2004
Opal Juanita Eades, longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, Feb. 14, in Trinity Haven Nursing Center in Midland.
Graveside service for Mrs. Eades, 93, was held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Snyder Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Day, pastor of Ave. D Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 19, 1910 in Cook County, she married John Eades on Feb. 14, 1937 in Abilene. He died in 1963.
A homemaker, Mrs. Eades moved from McCamey to Snyder in 1963 and was a member of the Ave. D Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Sheila Vineyard of Midland, Lela Warren of Indonesia, Cleo Keller of Snyder, Emogene Gotcher of Sweetwater and Juanita Richardson of San Angelo; three sons, Arnold Eades of Auburn, Ala., Calvin Eades of Houston and James Eades of San Angelo; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Meredith of Fort Worth; 23 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Lanny Buchwald
1946-2004
Lanny Brent Buchwald of Snyder died Saturday, Feb. 14, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Buchwald, 57, was set for 9 a.m. today in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indiahoma, Okla.
Born Nov. 13, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Mr. Buchwald was self employed.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Maurissa Buchwald of Okarche, Okla.; and special friends, Judy James, Sam and Kim Walker, Nikki James, Randy and Christy James, all of Snyder, Eddie and Penny Wheeler of Colorado City and Jeffrey and Amy James of Wolfforth.
