Marie Roberts
1925-2000
ANDREWS – Marie Roberts, whose family owns an interest in the Snyder Daily News since 1976, died Monday, July 10, at her home in Midland following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Roberts, 74, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Second Baptist Church in Andrews. The Rev. Ivy Shelton, pastor, and Sharon Suttle, a family friend, were to officiate. Burial was to follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 6, 1925 in Rising Star, she moved to Andrews in 1939, graduating from Andrews High School in 1944. She had worked for Humble Oil Co. and then as office manager for Carl S. Ham Well Service, both in Andrews.
She married James W. Roberts on April 18, 1946 in Andrews. They moved to Waco and then returned to Andrews in 1950. Mr. Roberts, publisher of the Andrews County News and president of Roberts Publishing Co., died Dec. 20, 1997.
Roberts Publishing owns an interest in the Snyder Daily News as well as in newspapers and printing plants in Andrews, Azle, Brownfield, Gatesville, Granbury, Hereford, Lamesa, Quanah, Seminole, Springtown and Vernon.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Andrews Study Club and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip Roberts of Waco and Randall Roberts of Andrews; and four grandchildren, Blake Roberts, Brittanie Roberts, Karley Roberts and Penny Nichols.

John Coffman
1953-2000
DALLAS – John Joseph Coffman Sr., a director of Texas Savings Bank in Snyder since 1990, died Tuesday, July 11, in a single-engine airplane crash in Athens.
Memorial mass for Mr. Coffman, 47, is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas. The Rev. Donald F. Zimmerman will officiate.
Born Jan. 11, 1953 in Wichita Falls, Mr. Coffman was the founder and CEO of Carbon Development Corporation. In addition to being a director of Texas Savings Bank, he also served on the board of First National Bank of Athens.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jeanne Coffman of Dallas; two sons, John Joseph Jr. and Christopher “Kit” Coffman, both of Dallas; a daughter, Mary Lucille Coffman of Dallas; two sisters, Belle Carpentier of Azle and Camile Coffman of Dallas; and a brother, Randy Coffman of Wichita Falls.
The family suggests memorials to the Circle Ten Council of Boys Scouts of American of which Mr. Coffman was an active volunteer.

Sandy Pruitt
1973-2000
Sandy Mechelle Pruitt, a native of Snyder, died Wednesday, July 12, in Arlington’s Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Miss Pruitt, 26, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Dunkins, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Oct. 22, 1973 in Snyder, she attended Snyder schools.
Survivors include her father, Ira Pruitt of Snyder; two brothers, Michael Pruitt and Greg Pruitt, both of Snyder; two sisters, Pamela Pruitt of Arlington and Tammy Pruitt of Snyder; three uncles, Ennis Powell of Snyder, Bobby Blankinship of Beckville, Tex. and John Blankinship of Easton, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.

Thelma Moore
1913-2000
LAMESA – Thelma Moore, a registered nurse, died Wednesday, July 12, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Graveside service for Mrs. Moore, 86, was held this morning in Lamesa Memorial Park. The Rev. Gerald Parsons, pastor of Sunset Baptist Church, officiated.
Born Sept. 27, 1913 in Dallas County, she married E.M. Moore on Aug. 8, 1937 in Snyder.
Survivors include three daughters, Norma Mock of Denver City, Patty Pritchett of Dallas and Betty Roberson of Lubbock; a brother, Cecil Redd of Dallas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Libby Grimmett
1913-2000
Libby Ruth Grimmett, longtime resident of Snyder, died Sunday, July 16, at her home following a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Grimmett, 87, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 27, 1913 in Rains County, she married Billy Earl Grimmett on Feb. 17, 1931 in Sweetwater. He died Dec. 12, 1994.
A homemaker, Mrs. Grimmett was a member of the Northside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Earlene Gray of Snyder and Rita and Jack Lawrence of Sweetwater; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ray Max and Judy Grimmett, Jackie and D’Ann Grimmett and Frankie and Patty Grimmett, all of Snyder, and Norman and Shirley Grimmett of San Antonio; a sister, Koy Neal of Snyder; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Jesse Guerra
1921-2000
Jesse Guerra, foreman for the Diamond M Ranch for 48 years, died Sunday, July 16, at his home in Snyder.
Funeral service for Mr. Guerra, 78, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Garden.
Born on Nov. 21, 1921 in Goliad, he married Alicia Guerra on July 21, 1944 in Nixon. She died Feb. 5, 1995.
Survivors include a son, David Guerra of Snyder; and three daughters, Mary Alice Caldwell of Irving, Delia McDonald of Midland and Rita Brady of Bakersfield, Calif.

Randy Huddleston
1963-2000
Randy Huddleston of Amarillo, formerly of Snyder, died Sunday, July 16, in Amarillo’s Northwest Texas Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Huddleston, 37, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Cooper Thacker of Paris, Tex., will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Jan. 8, 1963 in Snyder, he was a 1981 graduate of Snyder High School and was an employee of the Radisson Hotel in Amarillo.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Joyce Huddleston of Snyder; three brothers, Jerry Huddleston of Garland, Larry Huddleston of Groesbeck and Robert Huddleston of Grapevine; and a special friend, Allen Grice of Amarillo.

Madia Wroten
1932-2000
Funeral service for Madia Wroten of Weatherford is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Danny Williams, pastor of the Lighthouse Assembly of God, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Wroten, 68, died Sunday, July 16, in Holland Lake Nursing Center in Weatherford following a lengthy illness.
Born May 12, 1932 in Chillicothe, she married Donald Smith on July 6, 1952. She married Jim Wroten in 1964, and he died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by a son, Mike Smith, in 1999; and by a sister, Jo Graham, on May 9, 2000.
Mrs. Wroten was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Burt Smith; three sisters, Geraldine Hollis of Snyder, Evelyn Bunker of Maitland, Fla., and Marion Johnston of Plainview; a brother, Bobby Franks of Snyder; and several nieces and nephews.

Margery Riggs
1927-2000
MIDLAND – Margery Sherar Riggs, a former Snyder school teacher, died Thursday, July 13, in Midland.
Memorial service for Mrs. Riggs, 72, was set for 4 p.m. today in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity with the Rev. Jeff Fouts officiating.
Service and burial will be held Wednesday at the Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church and its cemetery at Jones Creek in Brazoria County.
Born Oct. 12, 1927 in Houston, she was a sixth grade teacher in Snyder and moved to Midland in 1954. She moved to London, England in 1972, returning to Midland in 1976.
Mrs. Riggs was a member of the Episcopal Church in Snyder, was a member of the Junior League of Midland, Museum of the Southwest and Midland Community Theatre. She also was active in the founding of the Trinity Day School.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Donald Riggs of Midland; three daughters, Katherine Grella of Midland, Susan Brown of Fort Worth and Bryan Huggins of Kerrville; and seven grandchildren.

Billy Britton
1938-2000
SAN SABA – Billy Ray Britton of San Saba died Thursday, July 13, at his home in San Saba.
Funeral service for Mr. Britton, 62, was set for 11 a.m. today in the Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Melvin Williams was to officiate.
Born April 22, 1938 in Hillsboro, he was an auto mechanic in Pecos before moving to San Saba. He married Jackie Wallace on July 24, 1966 in Mexico.
Mr. Britton was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Avie Leona Britton; a son, Billy Ray Britton Jr.; and a daughter, Shannon Marie Britton.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly Beasley of San Saba and Michelle Britton; a son, Robert Travis Britton; the children’s mother, Jackie S. Goldsberry of Snyder; a brother, Jack Britton of California; and two grandchildren.
