Berenice Brown
1906-2000
Berenice Wade Brown, a resident of Snyder the past four years, died Thursday, Sept. 14, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Brown, 94, is set for 4 p.m. Monday in the Dunn Cemetery. The Rev. Monte Wike, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Matador, will officiate.
Born Aug. 6, 1906 in Nachogdoches, she married Curtis Brown on March 8, 1925. He died on Aug. 10, 1970.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bessie Wade; and a brother, Harold Wade.
A longtime resident of Odessa, she was a clerk at The Model Shop for many years.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Virginia Wade of Snyder; a sister, Lois Reed of Dallas; two nieces, Mary Lou Marx of New Orleans and Carol Jeter of Carrollton; a nephew, Jim Reed of Carrollton; and two great-nephews, Ian Marx and Chris Jeter.

Joyce McDonald
1924-2000
Funeral service for Joyce Hughes McDonald of Temple will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Fluvanna Church of Christ with Don Campbell, minister, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fluvanna Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. McDonald, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 14.
She was born Oct. 10, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Hughes in Ivan, Tex. She married C.L. McDonald on June 9, 1941 in Fluvanna.
She was a member of the Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple, and was preceded in death by her parents, one child, one sister and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Chester McDonald of Temple; two sons; four sisters; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John Rogers
1914-2000
John Rogers of Rotan, father of Minnie Suarez of Snyder, died Monday, Sept. 11, in Fisher County Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Rogers, 86, was held Tuesday in the Belvieu Cemetery with the Rev. John Rose Hayden officiating. Arrangements were by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Born March 8, 1914 in Tom Green County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Felipe Quintanella, he married Mary L. Miranda in Ballinger. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Rogers was a laborer and a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Rotan.
Survivors include four sons, Vecente Lozano of Abilene, Eracillo Rogers of Ballinger, Lupe Rogers of Oklahoma and Johnny Ortega of San Jose, Calif.; five other daughters, Rita Ponce of Ballinger, Matilde Rodriquez of Big Spring, Josephine Vasquez of Illinois, Eva Galan and Frances Garcia, both of Hurst; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Edna Hopper
1909-2000
Edna Pearl Hopper, 91, of Odessa died Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Avalon Place Nursing Home.
Graveside service was held this morning in the Pyron Cemetery in Scurry County. Arrangements were by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hopper was born Aug. 20, 1909 in Sulphur Springs. She was a retired beautician and a Methodist.
She is preceded in death by her husband, W.L. Hopper.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McDonald, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 14, in Weston Inn Nursing Center in Temple after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 10, 1924 in Ivan, Tex. She married Chester L. McDonald on June 9, 1941 in Fluvanna.
Mrs. McDonald grew up in Fluvanna and also was a former resident of Snyder. She also lived in New Orleans for a number of years and in Saudi Arabia where Mr. McDonald worked in the oil industry.
A resident of Temple for the past 14 years, she was a member of the Western Hills Church of Christ.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her parents, T.M. and Mae Hughes; a son, Randy McDonald; a sister, Ruth Hutchins; and a brother, Dub Hughes.
Survivors include her husband, Chester McDonald of Temple; two sons, Wes McDonald of Scotland and Terry McDonald of Kentucky; four sisters, Janice Collier and Jean Thompson, both of Snyder; Pauline Scott of Tulsa and Jo McDonald of Midland.

Lois Haire
1910-2000
O’DONNELL – Lois Haire, the mother of Jerry Haire of Snyder, died Thursday, Sept. 14, in Lubbock.
Funeral service for Mrs. Haire, 90, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the O’Donnell Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home.
Born April 20, 1910 in Jack County, she attended school in Cundiff and graduated from Jacksboro High School. She married Roy Haire on Dec. 24, 1930 in Jefferson County, Okla. He died Jan. 20, 1965. Also, she was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Mattie White Smith; a brother and two sisters.
A homemaker and a hostess for the O’Donnell Senior Citizens Center, she was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in O’Donnell. She moved to Lubbock in 1993.
Survivors include two other sons, Bobby Haire of Brownwood and Charles Haire of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Minnie Reeves of O’Donnell.

Frieda Bartels
1903-2000
HEREFORD – Frieda Lena Bartels, a former resident of Scurry County, died Friday, Sept. 15, in Westgate Nursing Home.
Funeral service for Mrs. Bartels, 97, is set for 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Born March 6, 1903 in Shawnee, Okla., she married John A. Bartels on Nov. 14, 1922 in Hermleigh. He died on April 21, 1982.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anna Roemisch; three brothers; and six sisters.
While living in Hermleigh, she was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, choir and Sons of Hermman.
She moved to Hereford in 1973 and was a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita Schilling of Dimmitt, Hilda Reissig of Houston and Bernice Layman of Hereford; two sons, Leonard Bartels and Erwin Bartels, both of Hereford; 32 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Rix Funeral Chapel in Hereford.

Frances Jones
1915-2000
SAN ANGELO – Frances Chenault Jones, a former resident of Scurry County, died Monday, Sept. 18, at her home in San Angelo.
Funeral service for Mrs. Jones, 85, is set for 2 p.m. Monday in the Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ron Sutto, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery.
Born Feb. 12, 1915 in Burkburnett, she was reared on a ranch in Scurry County. After graduation from business college, she worked in several places before moving to San Angelo in the early 1950s where she became owner of San Angelo Transfer Co.
After retirement, she married Albert T. Jones and moved to Plainview where they farmed. After his retirement, they returned to San Angelo. Mr. Jones preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick Cleburne and Eva Pearl Chenault; two brothers; a sister; and a nephew.
Survivors include three nieces, Anne Perry of Martinsville, Va., Margaret Murphy of Richardson and Evalie Grigg of San Angelo; three great-nephews; and four great-nieces.
