Dorene Pender
1922-2001
Dorene Pender, a nurse anesthetist, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at her home in Hermleigh.
A memorial service for Mrs. Pender, 79, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Elvin Powell, brother of Mrs. Pender, and Dr. Rex Reynolds, pastor of the Hermleigh First Baptist Church, will officiate.
Cremation is planned.
Born Jan. 7, 1922 in Freeport, she married Victor Gale on May 22, 1946. She married Bob Pender on Sept. 28, 1949. Both preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Vivian and William Herbert Powell; a sister, Mary Vivian Powell; a daughter, Veta Rose Pender; and a granddaughter, Robin Early Pender.
Mrs. Pender served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and later worked as a nurse anesthetist for 18 years in area hospitals. She also served as director of nurses at Mitchell County Hospital in Colorado City.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and James Rinehart of Hermleigh and Vicki and Bill Adams of Abilene; a brother and sister-in-law, Elvin and Ivah Powell of Clute; four grandchildren, James Adams and his wife, Holli, of Abilene, Aimee Clamann of Austin, Charles Sweatt and his wife, Rebecca, of Austin, and Shae Rinehart of Hermleigh; three great-grandchildren, Stormy Adams and Hailee Adams, both of Abilene, and Thane Clamann of Austin.
Family will receive friends at the Rinehart home in Hermleigh.

Charlie Trull
1911-2001
SUNDOWN – Charlie Trull, the father of Mike Trull of Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 17, in Levelland.
Funeral service for Mr. Trull, 89, was set for 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Sundown with the Rev. Glenn Reece, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was to follow in the Sundown Cemetery under the direction of Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors.
Born Aug. 29, 1911 in Tipton, Okla., he married Nellie Norean Haney on Dec. 21, 1930 in Clovis, N.M. She died on Jan. 14, 1980.
Mr. Trull lived in Texico, N.M., before moving to Hockley County in 1928. A resident of Sundown since 1962, Mr. Trull was a retired farmer and a member of the County Line Baptist Church.
He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Donnie Carl Trull, in 1991.
Survivors include three other sons, Dwain Trull and Don Trull, both of Sundown, and Dale Trull of Levelland; four daughters, Melba Jones and Betty Shults, both of Sundown, Mary Crenshaw of Sanger and Nitanell Hayes of Woodward, Okla.; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Don Howard
1941-2001
GARLAND – Richard Don Howard, a former resident of Snyder, died Friday, Feb. 16, in Dallas.
A funeral service for Mr. Howard, 59, was set for 1 p.m. today in the Beltline Baptist Church with Ed Perry and Oscar Smart officiating.
A graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in Snyder’s Hillside Memorial Gardens with arrangements under the direction of Williams Funeral Directors in Garland.
Born Oct. 6, 1941 in Macon, Ga., Mr. Howard lived in Snyder from 1979 to 1991 and worked for Ingersoll-Rand. A resident of Garland, Mr. Howard was an equipment consultant and a member of the Beltline Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Howard of Garland; two sons, Freddie Howard and Danny Howard, both of Garland; a sister, Diane Casey of Calhoun, Ga.; one grandson; and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Laura Powell of Snyder.

W.D. Breed
1918-2001
MONAHANS – W.D. Breed, the brother of Patsy Floyd of Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 17, in Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin.
Graveside service for Mr. Breed, 82, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Monahans Memorial Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home of Austin.
Born March 12, 1918 in Hennepin, Okla., he was a longtime resident of Monahans and Midland. He was in the oilfield business and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Monahans and a member of the Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janie of the home; a son, Bob Breed of Monahans; a daughter, Linda Sligh of Austin; two other sisters, Lela LeBlanc of San Jose, Calif. and Sue Johnson of Levelland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Connie Prado
1929-2001
BIG SPRING – Consuelo “Connie” Prado, the mother of Martha Noyola of Snyder, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at her home in the Lomax community following a long illness.
Vigil service for Mrs. Prado, 71, is set for 7:30 this evening at the Myers and Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Memorial Park.
Born July 28, 1929 in La Feria, she married Manuel Prado in 1950 in Le Feria. A resident of the Lomax community for 35 years, she was a homemaker and a Catholic.
Survivors also include her husband, Manuel Prado of Lomax; four sons, Mario Prado Jr. of La Feria, Mario Prado of Corpus Christi, Jorge Prado of Lomax and Carlos Prado of Odessa; five brothers, Alfredo Fernandez of La Feria, Samuel Fernandez of Houston, Santiago Fernandez of Harlingen, Roberto Fernandez of Austin and Rodolfo Fernandez of Solena Beach, Calif.; six sisters, Carmen Lozano of Round Rock, Berta Alvarez of Austin, Beatrice Archibeque of Bryan, Celia Escobedo of Rockport, Margarita Dominquez of Taylor and Josephina Castillo of Copperas Cove; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Erna Chauncey
1906-2001
Feb. 21, in Medical Center Hospital in Odessa after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Chauncey, 94, is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday in Hillside Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Arthur Lowe, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church in Abilene officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 12, 1906 in Yorktown, Tex., Mrs. Chauncey had been a resident of Scurry County since 1940 and farmed for many years in the Inadale community. She was an active quilter at the Scurry County Senior Center and a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Erma Devers of Snyder and Patsy Channell and her husband, James, of Odessa; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Dorothy Lauw of Abilene; six grandchildren, including Connie Irvine of Snyder; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Martha Price
1914-2001
Martha Bess Price, a resident of Snyder the past year, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Price, 86, is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Big Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 20, 1914 in Cisco, she was married to John E. Price who owned Oil Well Machine and Tool Company in San Angelo. Mr. Price died in 1971.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Mosely and Martha Johnson.
A longtime resident of San Angelo, Mrs. Price was a homemaker, a member of the West Texas A&M Mothers Club, the Shannon Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the College Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jack H. Price of Snyder and Thomas C. Price of Trophy Club; two granddaughters, Deidre Price McCoy of San Angelo and Jill K. Price of Austin; and a great-grandson, Blue Price McCoy of San Angelo.

Facoline Norton
1917-2001
MEMPHIS, Tex. – Facoline Messer Norton, the sister of Ernest Hollis of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Funeral service for Mrs. Norton, 83, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Travis Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Shelton and Tom Posey officiating. Burial was to follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home.
Born in Acme, she had been a resident of Memphis most of her life where she owned and operated the Messer Café. She was a member of the Travis Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by two husbands, C.J. Messer and Russell Norton; and a son, Charles Messer.
Survivors also include a daughter, Jaussetta Martin of Memphis; two stepsons, Larry Norton of Childress and R.L. Norton of Denver; two stepdaughters, Jo Thompson and Pat Norton, both of Amity, Ark.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pete Brooks
1910-2001
H.D. “Pete” Brooks of Amarillo, a former Scurry County farmer, died Saturday, Feb. 24, in Amarillo.
Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Snyder Cemetery with Tom Holcomb, minister of the East Side Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Mr. Brooks was born on Oct. 2, 1910 in Kaufman County to Walter and Mattie Brooks. He also had farmed in Hale County and moved to Canyon in 1992. He was a member of the Hale Center Masonic Lodge for 43 years.
His wife, Daisy Ann Brooks, died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Rolland Buhrkuhl of Canyon; a son and daughter-in-law, W.C. “Bill” Brooks of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
