Emmitt Jourdan
1902-2001
Emmitt W. Jourdan, a former Snyder resident, died Wednesday, March 28, in Shannon Healthcare Center in San Angelo after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mr. Jourdan, 98, is set for 3 p.m. Friday in the Snyder Cemetery. A grandson-in-law, Frankie Santiago of Roscoe, will officiate.
Born June 13, 1902 in Brown County, he married Viola Thurman on Feb. 7, 1925. She died Nov. 2, 1937. He later married Myrtle Stewart who also preceded him in death.
A resident of Snyder before moving to San Angelo, Mr. Jourdan was a farmer and retired service station owner. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Audine McCann of Snyder and Mary Nell Jourdan of San Angelo; a stepson, David Stewart of San Angelo; a sister, Naomi Martin of Denver City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Wallace Stark
1918-2001
Wallace Reid Stark, a resident of Snyder since 1976, died Tuesday, March 27, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Stark, 82, is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Dale Huff and Bill Looney, ministers of the 37th Street Church of Christ, will officiate.
Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Haskell Cemetery.
Born Oct. 27, 1918 in Haskell, he married Opal Culpepper on June 30, 1945 in Haskell.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served 34 months in Europe as a mechanic.
Mr. Stark was a former resident of Haskell and moved to Snyder from Artesia, N.M., in 1976, retiring from Newmont Oil Co. after 12 years.
A member of the 37th Street Church of Christ, he was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Stark.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Stark of Snyder; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garland and Pamela Stark and Johnny and Dolores Stark, all of Irving; and four grandchildren, Joey, Susan, Kelsey and Colin Stark, all of Irving.

Donald Carroll
1981-2001
WICHITA FALLS -- Donald Ray “Junior” Carroll, a grandson and nephew of Snyder residents, died as a result of a drive-by shooting in Wichita Falls Sunday, March 25.
Service for Mr. Carroll, 20, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in a Pentecostal Church. The Revs. L.C. Pierce and L. Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young & Company Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 10, 1981, he is survived by his father, Donald Barnes of Wichita Falls; his mother and stepfather Mattie and Harvey Miller of Wichita Falls; a brother, Jermaine Carroll of Wichita Falls; three sisters; his grandmother, Rosie Lee Barnes of Snyder; and two aunts, Louise Scott and Rozel Huntsman, both of Snyder; a great-aunt, Winnie Hill of Austin; and a host of other aunts and uncles.

Martha Barr
1922-2001
CANYON LAKE - Martha Joyce Barr of Canyon Lake, a former Snyder teacher, died Monday, March 26, in North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.
Service for Mrs. Barr, 78, is set for 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Shawhan officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Born June 7, 1922 in Medicine Mound, Tex., she served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a graduate of the first class in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 14, 1943.
Teaching school for 26 years, she was employed by the Snyder ISD for more than 15 years. She was a member of the Sattler, Tex., VFW Post 8573 and American Legion Post 643.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Barr and Brenda Locke, both of Canyon Lake; a sister, Madeline Russell of West Lafayette, Ind.; two grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society.

Cecil Martin
1905-2001
LORAINE – Cecil Mahon Martin, the last sibling of the late Congressman George Mahon, died Tuesday, March 27, at her home in Lubbock.
Graveside service for Mrs. Martin, 95, is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Loraine Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church in Loraine. A son, Stanley H. Martin of Lubbock, will officiate.
Born July 9, 1905 in Bossier City, La., she was a graduate of Loraine High School and attended Texas Women’s University in Denton.
She married Harold Martin in Loraine and he died in 1983. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanine Opheim in 1987.
Mrs. Martin moved to Lubbock in 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two other sons, Merrill Martin of Snyder and Don Martin of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Leonard Koening
1918-2001
BIG SPRING – Leonard L. Koening, a former Scurry County resident, died Wednesday, March 28, in a Big Spring care center.
Graveside service for Mr. Koening, 83, is set for 3 p.m. Friday in the Mt. Olive Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickel and Welch Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 8, 1918 in Taylor, he married Betty Lebkowsky on March 30, 1981 in Big Spring.
Mr. Koening farmed and ranched in Scurry County for many years, retiring in 1980. He moved to Big Spring in 1981. He was a Lutheran and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Koening of Big Spring; a son, Troy Koening of Big Spring; a daughter, Carolyn Rains of Lake Buchanan; two stepsons, Doug Rountree and Michael Lebkowsky, both of Webster; a stepdaughter, Karen Chrane of Big Spring; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4400 N. Big Spring, Suite C-32 in Midland, 79705.

Clay Mullins
1907-2001
Clay Mullins, a longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, May 5, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.
Services for Mr. Mullins, 94, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 17, 1907 in Livingston, Tex., he married Marie Gray on Jan. 22, 1934. She died Feb. 14, 1977. He married Faye Erwin on July 2, 1984 in Snyder.
Mr. Mullins was district foreman for Sun Pipeline for 38 years. After retirement, he sold specialty advertising. He was a member of the 37th Street Church of Christ and was a Bible class teacher.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Mullins of Snyder; two sons, Ed Mullins of Lubbock and Dr. David Mullins of San Antonio; a daughter, Jennifer Dacy of Burleson; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clay Mullins
1907-2001
Funeral service for Clay Mullins, a longtime Snyder resident, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in 37th Street Church of Christ. Homer Anderson, Bill Looney and Mark Mullins will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Dr. David Hensley
1953-2001
Dr. David Hensley, a Snyder dentist for the past 25 years, died Friday, May 4, in Lubbock’s Covenant Medical Center after a heart attack and triple by-pass surgery.
Funeral service for Dr. Hensley, 48, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Craig Curry, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Feb. 22, 1953 in Snyder, he lived in Snyder at an early age. He was a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown and the University of Texas School of Dentistry in San Antonio.
He married Kay Schultz on June 16, 1973 in Kenedy.
Dr. Hensley returned to Snyder in 1976 and opened a dental practice in the Cogdell Center. A member of the First United Methodist Church, Dr. Hensley was a former member of the Snyder Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hensley of Snyder; two sons, Michael Hensley of Lubbock and Jonathan Hensley of Waco; his parents, Jesse and Caroll Hensley of Kenedy; a sister, Elizabeth Dugi of Cuero; his father-in-law, Fred Schultz; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Shannah Schultz; and four nieces and nephews, Miranda Dugi, Daniel Dugi, Erin Shultz and Stephen Schultz.
Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 2209 N. Big Spring, Suite J in Midland, 79701; or to the Scurry County unit of the American Heart Association, 875 CR 1101 in Hermleigh, 79526.
