Anna Bell Drum
1908-2003
Anna Bell Drum, a resident of Scurry County since 1916, died this morning in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Service for Mrs. Drum, 94, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fluvanna Cemetery. Dale Huff, minister of the 37th Street Church of Christ, and Wallace Combest will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 4, 1908 in Bell County, she moved with her family to Scurry County in 1916. She attended Favorite School and married L.C. Drum on Jan. 6, 1929 in Snyder. He died May 3, 1986.
Mrs. Drum, a homemaker and a member of the Fluvanna Church of Christ, began farming with her husband in the Fluvanna area in 1939. She moved to Snyder in 1988 and was a member of the Palette Club where she enjoyed china and oil painting.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Buddy Drum, on Jan. 4, 1996; and by one brother and one sister.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Shirley Drum of Snyder; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Drum Dillaha of Fluvanna; three grandsons and their wives, Max and Valerie Drum of Fluvanna, Delton and Lainey Drum of Richland Hills and Ben and Traci Drum of Garland; seven great-grandchildren, Cole Drum, David Drum, Josh Peri, Tia Drum, Karomy Purkey, Kelby Drum and Kyle Kuss; four great-great-grandchildren, Katie, Gracie, Christina and Adrianna Drum; and three great-great-great-grandchildren, Christian and Noah Drum and Draven Peri.
Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

JoAnne Ritchie
1944-2003
JoAnne Eades Ritchie, 58, of Snyder died Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the Dialysis Center in Lubbock after a sudden illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ritchie is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 5, 1944 in Snyder, she married J. Harland Ritchie on May 12, 1972 in Snyder. He died July 7, 1996.
Mrs. Ritchie was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Ruth Eades of Snyder; a daughter, Jane Kirby of Dallas; a son, Michael Robert Kirby Jr. and his wife Becky of Commerce; five grandchildren, Mike and Kyle Kirby and Zina, Alfinsa and Eliana Brewer, all of Commerce.
Family visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Ferrell Coston
1917-2003
HASKELL – R. Ferrell Coston, a native of Scurry County, died Wednesday, Feb. 12.
Graveside service for Mr. Coston, 85, was set for 1:30 p.m. today in the Willow Cemetery. A memorial service was to follow in the First United Methodist Church under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Born June 17, 1917 in Hermleigh, he was a graduate of Sul Ross University. He married Jane Meadows in 1941 and had been a resident of Haskell for 50 years.
Mr. Coston retired from Shell Pipeline in 1972 and he then sold life insurance for American Amicable. He was a charter member of the Haskell Rotary Club and active in the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Coston of Haskell; two sons, Tom Coston of Fort Worth and Wendell Coston of Amarillo; two sisters, Louise Cormally of Abilene and Verda Johnson of Maryland; three granddaughters; one step granddaughter; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Oma Lee Sturdivant and Ollie Ely.

Butch Prichard
1940-2003
Robert Allen “Butch” Prichard died Friday, Jan. 3, at his home in Snyder.
Services for Mr. Prichard, 62, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 3, 1940, Mr. Prichard was an oilfield foreman and had moved to Snyder from Hobbs, N.M.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie Prather of Snyder; a stepdaughter, Christy Gilbert of Odessa; and a sister, Charlesea Motley of Tennessee.

Hester Palmer
1910-2003
Hester M. Palmer, a former Snyder resident, died Thursday, Jan. 2, in a Cleburne hospital.
Graveside service for Mrs. Palmer, 92, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Ely officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home.
Born April 29, 1910 in Nemo, Tex., she married Cecil E. Palmer on May 20, 1934. He died April 15, 1966.
Before moving to Cleburne, Mrs. Palmer had resided in Snyder from 1963-67 and was a member of the Ave. D Baptist Church and Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker and a retired nurses’ aide.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Patti Palmer of Snyder, Charles and Nancy Palmer of Marshall and A.E. and Carole Palmer of Muncie, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Ward of Cleburne; two sisters, Lilly Chaffin of Sanford and Judy Archer of Riverton, Wyo.; five grandchildren, J.K. Palmer of Los Angeles and Josh Palmer of Denver, Colo., Justin Ward, Steve Whiteside and Shara Wellborn, all of Cleburne; and five great-grandchildren.

Rick Dale
1948-2003
of Kathy Huff of Snyder, died Thursday, Jan. 2, in Rolling Plains Hospital.
A graveside service for Mr. Dale, 54, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyndel Hix will officiate.
Survivors also include his wife, Barbara Dale of Sweetwater; a son, Richard Dale of Dallas; three daughters, Teresa Dale of Oklahoma, and Bobbie Dale and Tammie Abbott, both of Dallas; and one grandson, Jacob Brents.

Eddie Miller
1918-2003
Ernest Hoyle “Eddie” Miller, a former Snyder resident, died Monday, Jan. 6, in the VA Medical Center in Big Spring after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Miller, 84, is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Roy Badillas officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Rosary is set for 7 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 21, 1918 in Spencer, N.C., he married Wanda Bly on July 14, 1945 in Corpus Christi. She died Feb. 17, 1991. He owned Miller Chevron Service Station on College Ave. for many years. He had lived in Odessa before moving to Big Spring.
Two sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Martha Forkner of Odessa, Mary Pluff of Odessa, Sister Patricia Ann Miller of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Linda McCurry of Jayton; a son, John Miller of Kerrville; a sister, Emma Ruth Ashmore of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gearald McGaha
1932-2003
Gearald Arlen McGaha, longtime Snyder resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, at his home in Snyder after a sudden illness.
Graveside service for Mr. McGaha, 70, was set for 11 a.m. today in the Ira Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Pigg, pastor of the Snyder Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 6, 1932 in Snyder, Mr. McGaha was a U.S. Army veteran. He had lived in Snyder most of his life and was a retired carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Judson and Frances McGaha; and a brother, Roaald McGaha.
Survivors include two sons, Gearald McGaha Jr. of Colorado City and Greg McGaha of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Nawana Hernandez of Joplin, Mo.; and several grandchildren.

Calvin Edwards
1933-2003
HOUSTON -- Calvin Edwards of Lubbock, a former resident of Snyder, died Saturday, Jan. 4, in Houston.
Funeral service for Mr. Edwards, 69, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Brookside Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service in Lubbock will be held at 3:30 p.m. next Thursday at St. Luke Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Born Sept. 30, 1933 in Clarksville, Mr. Edwards graduated from Lubbock Dunbar High School in 1951. He attended Prairie View A&M on a football scholarship and earned a degree in education in 1956 and a master’s degree in 1965.
He was a member of the Prairie View football team that won the National Negro Football Championship in 1953 and he was inducted into the university’s hall of fame in 1996.
He married Nettie Joyce Greenleaf on June 11, 1960.
Mr. Edwards moved to Snyder in 1960 as a math teacher at Lincoln High School where he started the school’s first football program.
He moved to Lubbock in 1965 to become industrial arts teacher and head football coach at the new Struggs Junior High. He later transferred to Monterey High School where he taught math and coached football and wrestling, retiring in 1994.
While in Snyder he was deacon at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He then was a deacon and Sunday School superintendent of the Rising Star Baptist Church where the education annex was co-named in his honor.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the Hub City Kiwanis Club and a volunteer mentor and tutor at Posey, Parkway and Haynes Elementary schools.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie Edwards of Lubbock; a daughter, Vicki Edwards of Wilmington, Del.; a son, Dr. Victa Edwards of Houston; three sisters, Mary Sue Brown of Bryan, Martha King of Vallejo, Calif., and Carolyn Stewart of Houston; a brother, Dornell Edwards of Benicia, Calif.
Memorials may be made to the Calvin Edwards Memorial Student Scholarship fund at Wells Fargo Banks.
