Julia Wolf
1910-2001
AUSTIN – Julia R. Wolf, a former resident of Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 24.
Funeral service for Mrs. Wolf, 90, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Mrs. Wolf was a longtime resident of Snyder. She cared for children for 25 years at Colonial Hill Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Dripping Springs for nine years.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Richard O. Wolf of Dripping Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert and Sharon Wolf of Dripping Springs and Richard and Sherri Wolf of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Charles Gerland of Garfield; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Austin Hospice.

Grace Latimer
1904-2001
RICHARDSON -- Grace Marie Latimer, mother of Gail Latimer of Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 24, at a Richardson nursing facility.
Graveside service for Mrs. Latimer, 96, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Her nephew, the Rev. Gene Tyson, will officiate.
Born March 14, 1904 in Chanute, Kan., she married John Latimer of Fort Worth in June of 1923. He died in August, 1986.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Royce R. Latimer, last August; four sisters and two brothers.
Other survivors include a granddaughter; two step grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gerri Coats
1923-2001
COLEMAN – Gearldine “Gerri” Coats, the sister of Wilmer Richards of Snyder, died Sunday, Feb. 25, at her home in Coleman.
Funeral service for Mrs. Coats, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul Smith, assisted by D.G. Allen, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Midway Cemetery.
Born in Norton, she married Leroy Coats in Ballinger and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Coats was a homemaker and a member of the Novice Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Jo Johnson of Novice; a son, Troy Coats of Abilene; two sisters, Lou Dale Shields of Aztec, N.M., and Geneva Tekell of Tahoka; another brother, Paul Richards of Comanche; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Margie McNair
1919-2001
Margie McNair, a retired Snyder elementary school teacher, died Friday, March 9, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Service for Mrs. McNair, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Miller Robinson, retired Baptist minister, and the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of the church, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 2, 1919 in San Antonio, she was a graduate of Baylor University and taught in Gilmer and Big Spring before joining the faculty of Central Elementary in January, 1955. She later taught at West and became a member of the original faculty at Stanfield. She completed her 28-year teaching career in Snyder at East Elementary, retiring at the end of the 1982 school year.
She married Wacil McNair on April 18, 1943 in Gilmer. Mr. McNair was the long-time editor of the Snyder Daily News and he died Oct. 23, 1995.
Mrs. McNair was a member of the Cosmorama Study Club and was active in Delta Kappa Gamma. She was active in the Texas State Teachers Association and served as president of the Snyder Classroom Teachers Association in 1966-67.
Mrs. McNair was a member of the Colonial Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry McNair.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Debra McNair of Snyder and Terry and Gail McNair of Framingham, Md.; another daughter-in-law, Jane Rose of Richmond, Tex.; a sister, Valerie Fellows of Los Angeles; a brother, Hal Tucker Jr. of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Juanita Donalson
1909-2001
Funeral service for Juanita Donalson, a resident of Snyder since 1981, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the East Side Church of Christ. Tom Holcomb, minister, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Stamford with arrangements under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Donalson, 91, died Wednesday, March 7, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born May 30, 1909 in Anson, she married Henry Donalson on Aug. 31, 1927 in Abilene. He died in 1953.
Mrs. Donalson worked as a dormitory monitor at Abilene Christian University for 23 years, and was a member of Snyder’s East Side Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Cox of Snyder; a son, Robert Donalson of Lynchburg, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.

Ike Eischeid
1917-2000
A memorial service for Ike Eischeid, a former Scurry County resident, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hermleigh United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bunny Cox will officiate.
Family visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Eischeid, 83, died Dec. 22, 2000 in a healthcare facility in Asheville, N.C.
Born March 4, 1917 in North Washington, Iowa, Mr. Eischeid was a former resident of Dunn and a stock farmer. He was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Eischeid of Asheville; one daughter, Samantha Wynn of Arden; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Thomas and Melinda Hallmark of Bryan; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Henry J. and Kay Eischeid of New Hampton, Iowa, and Dale Eischeid of Indianapolis, Ind.; three step grandsons; and two step great-grandsons.
Memorials may be made to the Dunn Cemetery Association.

Reyes Portillo
1919-2001
MIDLAND – Reyes Portillo, the father of Rosario Portillo of Snyder, died Wednesday, March 7.
Rosary for Mr. Portillo, 82, is set for 7 this evening in the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be read at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Born Jan. 6, 1919, Mr. Portillo was married to Lucy Portillo who died in 1998. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Reina Arrdondo; and two brothers, Willie Portillo and Robert Portillo.
Survivors include four other sons, Lupe Portillo, Jesse Portillo and Johnny Portillo, all of Midland, and Reyes Portillo Jr. of Stanton; four daughters, Virginia Hinojos, Gabina Rodriguez, Juanita Carrasco and Mary Ellen Vasquez, all of Midland; two sisters, Maria Ramos of Pecos and Lucia Portillo of Arizona; four brothers, Antonio Portillo and Juanello Portillo, both of Pecos, Daniel Portillo of Alpine and Octavio Portillo of Arizona; 54 grandchildren; and 60 great-grandchildren.

Joe League
1917-2001
Masonic graveside service for Joseph L. “Joe” League is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hillside Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Miller Robinson, retired Baptist minister, will officiate, assisted by Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor of the Colonial Hill Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. League, 83, died Saturday, March 10, in San Angelo after a lengthy illness.
Born March 29, 1917 in Longview, he grew up there and married Gertrude English on April 3, 1936 in Tyler.
Mr. League went to work in the oilfields when he was 20 years old with Strubie Oil Company. He then began work with General Crude, making 82 cents an hour as a roughneck. He retired after 46 years as regional drilling superintendent for General Crude and Mobil.
Mr. League’s work also took him to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota, Kansas and Oklahoma.
A resident of Snyder since 1972, he was a Master Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge 958, and a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Snyder Country Club.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Paul League.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude League of Snyder; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Bette League of San Angelo; two sisters, Lois Moore of Longview and Bessie Cain of Jacksboro; a brother, Morgan League of Lonoke, Ark.; and two grandsons.

William Harris
1914-2001
JAYTON - William Albert Harris, the father of Joyce Dunn of Snyder, died Sunday, March 11, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Funeral service for Mr. Harris, 86, is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Jayton Church of Christ with Garth Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Jayton Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 14, 1914 in Bonds Chapel in Kent County, he married Amanda King on Sept. 16,1946 in Jayton. She died in 1998.
A resident of Girard and a member of the Jayton Church of Christ, Mr. Harris was a lifelong resident of Kent County where he farmed until his retirement.
Survivors include another daughter, Helen Kimbell of Fort Worth; a brother, Milton Harris of Lamesa; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
