Micheal Hershey
Funeral services for Micheal Hershey, 22, of Sulphur Springs were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Jenkins officiating.
Burial followed in Seymore Cemetery.
Mr. Hershey died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 in Sulphur Springs.
He was born in Phoenix, Ariz., on March 13, 1981, to David Wayne and Sandra Hershey Tennyson. He married Ashley Michelle Brooks. She survives.
Mr. Hershey was in the shoe repair business. He was a member of Brinker Baptist Church.
Other survivors include one daughter, Kaylee Nicole Hershey of Paris; his mother, Sandra H. Bernight of Sulphur Springs; his grandparents, Sam and Evelyn Hershey of Sulphur Springs, and Bobbie Zittle of Houston.
Mr. Hershey was preceded in death by his father in 2003.

Bonnie Faye Johnson
Funeral services for Bonnie Faye Johnson, 51, of Dallas, formerly of Sulphur Springs, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb, 24, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry W. Stribling Sr. officiating.
Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Kenneth Wright, Chris Finney, Donnie Ray Child Jr., Rickie Young, Thomas E. Johnson and Ivan Wright serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are O.D. Stribling Jr., Rev. Barry W. Stibling Sr., Scottie J. Stribling, Donnie R. Stribling, George E. Stribling and T.C. Fountain.
Mrs. Johnson died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at her residence in Dallas.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1952, in Hopkins County, to O.D. and Tommie Ella Stribling. She married Fred Johnson on Jan. 2, 1987. He survives.
Mrs. Johnson was raised in the Pleasant Hill community. She was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School. After high school she moved to Dallas, where she met her husband and joined the New St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
Other survivors include her mother, of Sulphur Springs; five brothers, O.D. Jr., Donnie, Barry, George and Scottie Stribling, all of Sulphur Springs; and one sister, Diana Lynn Fountain of Dallas.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her father.

Ada Nell Rheel Snipes
Inurnment services for Ada Nell Rheel Snipes, 75, of Sulphur Springs were held at a later time in Mauriceville.
Mrs. Snipes died at 3:42 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 at the Carriage House Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Hosston, La., on Jan. 18, 1929, the daughter of W.A. and Mary Elizabeth Johnston Rheel.
Mrs. Snipes was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Alma L. Lockett of Sulphur Springs; one brother, Alvin W. Rheel of Deweyville; two sisters, Marvine Rheel McCullogh and Frances Rheel White, both of Deweyville; and one grandson, Casey Joseph Lockett of Sulphur Springs.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Willie E. 'Slick' Finney
Funeral services for Willie E. 'Slick' Finney, 70, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ, with Supt. Nelson Gatlin officiating.
Burial followed in Coffey Cemetery in Como with Kevin Debase, Loyce Nash, David Hunter, Dameion Finney, Billy Edwards and Kaywood Abernathy serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be J.W. Goodson, George Boyd, Carter Sims, Elbert Graham and Cleveland Alexander Jr.
Mr. Finney died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1933, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Carl Finney and Ruby Rhoten Finney.
Mr. Finney attended schools in Sulphur Springs Independent School District. He was affiliated with Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ. He was retired. He also served in the Army.
Survivors include one daughter, Shelia Finney Marsh of Sulphur Springs; one brother, Baby Ray Finney of Como; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Finney was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Jo Ellen Dalzell
Funeral services for Jo Ellen Dalzell age, 79, of Sulphur Springs were held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 23, 2004 at the West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial followed at the Reilly Springs Cemetery with Jon Dalzell, Matt High, Jim Lucius, Keith Montgomery, Steve Dalzell and Don Boitman serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Dalzell died at 4:44 PM Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 6, 1924 the daughter of Chester and Beulah Marie Graves Johnson. She married Joseph Bush Dalzell on June 1, 1944 in Hayes, Kansas and he survives.
Mrs. Dalzell was a homemaker, a member of the Reilly Springs Quilters and a member of Reilly Springs United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jon and Sophie Dalzell of Grand Prairie; daughter; Diane Dalzell High of Garland; two grandchildren; Matt High and Meredith High of Garland.
Memorials may be made to the Reilly Springs Cemetery Association.

Bro. Herbert Francis Hinze
Brother Herbert Francis Hinze, S.J., age 95, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center. Brother Hinze entered the Society of Jesus on October 17, 1932 and professed final vows at St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, LA on August 15, 1943. During his seventy two years as a Jesuit Brother, he ministered at St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, LA, Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL, Loyola University, New Orleans, Jesuit High School, New Orleans, Jesuit House of Studies, Mobile, AL, and Ignatius Residence.
While in maintenance, he helped plan and supervise the construction of two buildings at Loyola University and seven buildings at Spring Hill College.
A native of Cego, Texas, Brother was preceded in death by his parents, Jane Harms Hinze and Charles A. Hinze; a brother, Alvin A. Hinze; and is survived by a nephew, Ronald Hinze of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Chapel, 5600 Gen DeGaulle Drive, New Orleans, LA on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment followed in the Jesuit Cemetery, St. Charles College Grand Coteau, LA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jesuit Retirement Fund, 500 S. Jefferson Davis Parkway, New Orleans, LA 70119, preferred.

Susie Bassham Lemon Pogue

Died: Feb. 22, 2004
Funeral services for Susie Bassham Lemon Pogue, age 100, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 25, at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 500 S. Hillcrest Drive, Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Gifford Long and Rev. Charles Moore officiating.
Interment was in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons David V. Graves, Boyd M. Graves, Richard R. Orwig, III" her grandsons-in-Iaw, Darrell W. Horton, J. P. Rodriguez, her great-grandsons David B. Graves, Dylan M. Graves, Will D. Horton, and great-grandsons-in-Iaw Chris Stuckey, Brent Chaney and Steven John. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Pogue passed away at her home in Sulphur Springs on Sunday morning, February 22, 2004. She was born in the Emblem Community of Hopkins County on May 04, 1903, the daughter of Will F. Bassham and Georgia Walker Bassham. At age 5, she moved with her family to Sulphur Bluff where she graduated from Sulphur Bluff High School. She married David Lemon on June 19, 1927, and they resided in Ridgeway where Mr. Lemon taught school and, with his brother, owned and operated a grocery store. They moved to Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas, in 1929, where Mr. Lemon became Superintendent of the Slaton public schools. In 1937, the family moved to San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, when Mr.Lemon retired from teaching and went into the insurance business. In 1941, they moved to Sulphur Springs and established the Lemon Insurance Agency. Mr. and Mrs. Lemon worked together in the insurance business and added real estate to their agency in the mid 1940's.
Mrs. Lemon was the office manager of the Lemon Insurance and Real Estate Agency until the death of Mr. Lemon on June 12, 1967, after which time the family sold the business.
In July, 1985, Mrs. Lemon married Hurley Pogue. He died in August, 1996.
Mrs. Pogue was a member of First Baptist Church and the Bryce Sunday School Class, and active until her illness prevented her from attending. She was a charter member of Hopkins County Historical Society, organized September 18, 1972; a longtime member of Tanti Club; a longtime member of Business and Professional Womens Club, who named her business woman of the year.
An avid domino and 42 player, and active in other church and civic endeavors with a large circle of friends.
Mrs. Pogue is survived by three daughters, Jerry Lemon Graves and husband, Verdon R. Graves, and Alice Jean Lemon of Sulphur Springs, and Patsy Lemon Orwig and husband, Richard R. Orwig, II, of Dallas, and one son, William Rawlings Lemon and wife, Mickey, of Silver City, New Mexico. She is also survived by grandchildren, David V. Graves of Sulphur Springs, Boyd M. Graves of Austin, Elsianne Graves Horton of Sulphur Springs, Richard R. Orwig, III, of Dallas, Liz Lemon Rodriguez of Austin, and Cari Lemon of Silver City, New Mexico; great grand-children, Kristi Graves John of Arlington, D'Anne Graves Chaney, Dena Graves Stuckey, and David B. Graves of Sulphur Springs, Dylan M. Graves of Austin, Will and Gracie Horton of Sulphur Springs, Tiffany Horton of Frisco, Christopher and Katarina Pugsley of Lansing, Michigan, and one great-great-grandson, Jaxon Brent Chaney of Sulphur Springs.
She is also survived by one brother, Joe Bailey Bassham and wife, Mervie, of Sulphur Bluff, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers J. D. Bassham, Frank Bassham, Allen Bassham, Edgar Bassham, Clyde Bassham, and J. T. Bassham, sisters Leona Bassham, Avo Bassham Martin and Pauline Bassham Stone, as well as her husbands David Lemon and Hurley Pogue, and one grandson, Merrill Dean Graves.
Memorials may be made to the Hopkins County Historical Society, P. O. Box 1066, Sulphur Springs, TX 75483-1066.

Alfred McCord
Funeral services for Alfred McCord, 93, of Sulphur Springs were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Curtis French and Brother Tommy Hall officiating. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Michael Grantham, Joseph McCord, Brad McCord, Jay Eppars, Mike Hawkins and Larry Vititow serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Sims, Dickie Wilkinson, Jimmy Lewis, Mike Clark, Loyd McCord and Billy McCord.
Mr. McCord died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Carriage House Manor.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1910, in Weaver, to J.B. and Cora Lee Wilson McCord. He married Opal Springer on Jan. 30, 1935, in Hopkins County. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. McCord was a painter. He was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ann Grantham of Mesquite; one son, Ronald Alfred McCord of Sulphur Springs; three grandsons, Michael Lynn Grantham of Greenville, Joseph Grant McCord of Sulphur Springs, David Bradley McCord of Pickton; two granddaughters, Leslie Carol Eppars and Reggie Hawkins, both of Sulphur Springs; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. McCord was also preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

Daisy May Sheerin
Daisy May Sheerin passed away Sunday morning at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Sulphur Springs.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Delta Funeral Home Chapel in Cooper. Interment followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery.
Ms. Sheerin was born November 23, 1917, in Delta County. She was the daughter of Henry and Aurelia (Irby) Bangs. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by: a sister, Gladys Gibbs of Cooper; a half sister, Rebecca; nieces and nephews, Larry & Sarah Gibbs of Sulphur Springs, Linda Patrick of Sulphur Springs, Lendy Gibbs of Angleton, Carol Gibbs of Grand Prairie, Joyce Speck of Kauntz; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
