Gladys Parish Mills
Graveside funeral services for Gladys Parish Mills, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Tommy Johnston officiating.
Mrs. Mills died at 10:58 AM, Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Carriage House Manor.
Mrs. Mills was born December 12, 1920 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the daughter of Archie Washington Parish and Mary Ann Dodd Parish. Mrs. Mills came from a large family which included eight loving brothers and sisters. She was a dedicated employee for Rockwell Mfg. Company and remained there until her retirement.
Mrs. Mills was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs where she and her husband Jasper, who was an active deacon, worked together in many capacities of the church. She also taught Sunday school in the children's department for many years and was an active WMU member. Mrs. Mills was able to travel quite often and found her favorite place to be Hawaii.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Clara Mills of Sulphur Springs,TX; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Spencer Olesen of Grand Prairie, TX; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She had 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper Mills in 1969; her daughter, Martha McKinley in 2004; her son-in-law, Lowell McKinley in 1998; and siblings, Hulen Parish, Verda Dixon, Homer Parish, V.L. Parish, Margie Kohler, Arvie B. Parish, Sallie Ann Parish and T..B. Parish.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 7610 North Stemmons, Suite 600, Dallas, TX 75247-4228 or the American Cancer Society, Texas Division, Inc., Arlington Unit, P.O. Box 149275, Austin, TX 78714-9275.

Thomas Clinton Lynch
Funeral rites for Thomas Clinton Lynch, 80, of Como were held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 21, at St. James Catholic Church.
Burial followed at Forest Academy Cemetery with military honors conducted by Hopkins County Military Coalition, and with Ernest Martinez, Gus Shelton, Cliff Hudson, Gary Steed, H.P. Hosey and Mike Emerson serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Lynch died Monday, May 17, 2004 at Paris Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1923, in Dallas, to Thomas C. and Wilma Mae Woods Lynch. He married Holly Duvall. She preceded him in death in 1979.
Mr. Lynch was a certified welder by profession, a trade he used prior to and after serving as a military medical surgical technician in World War II. He received several decorations and commendations for his service in the Rhineland as a medic. He also served 26 years with the U.S. Postal service in the Como area.
He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars, Winnsboro Chapter, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and he was a 50-year member of both Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Jane Shelton.
Mr. Lynch was also preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Robert Lynch in 1955.

Rickey Looney
A graveside service for Rickey Looney, 54, of Dike were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Conner Cemetery with the Rev. John Pangle officiating.
Mr. Looney passed away at 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, after battling cancer for a period of time.
He was born in Caraway, Arkansas, on January 25, 1950, to Sammy and Sue Spivey Looney.
Mr. Looney was a printer for Echo Publishing Company for 11 years. He was also a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Heather Edwards of Bonham, Texas; his mother, Sue Coln of Dike, Texas; one sister, Teresa Snow of Dike, Texas; grandchildren, Roy Lynn Flores, Joshua Lee Flores, Danuel Andrew Edwards III; life-long friends, Don and Patsy Burton of Sulphur Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Looney was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Sammy Looney and Kenny Looney.

Harold Vernon Speaks
Funeral services for Harold Vernon Speaks, 83, of Dallas were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro with the Rev. Rob Keith officiating.
Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Franklin County with Dewayne Hopgood, Gary Lewis, Bill Speaks, Leon Day, Gene Abels and Jack Franklin serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Speaks died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Texas Specialty Hospital in Dallas.
He was born on March 9, 1921, in Commerce, to Henry Knollie and Susie Velma King Speaks. He married Maudie Cannaday on March 21, 1942. She survives.
Mr. Speaks was a retired truck driver.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II.
He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Cockrell Hill, where he served as a deacon.
Other survivors include two daughters, Darlene Speaks Davis and Marlene Speaks Garner, both of Dallas; one brother, Bill Speaks of Grand Prairie; one sister, Edna Lewis of Sulphur Springs; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Speaks was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harold Dewayne Speaks on Nov. 29, 1962; two brothers; two sisters; and one great-great granddaughter.

Dr. Booker Taliaferro Lewis Sr.
Funeral services for Dr. Booker Taliaferro Lewis Sr., 73, of Fresno, Calif., a native of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at St. Rest Church in Fresno with Pastor E.E. Stafford officiating.
Interment was in Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno with Tom Hall, Booker T. Lewis III, Anthony McCoy, James Hannah, Kirby Mathershed and Tim Medlock serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Anderson, the Rev. Vernon Clayton, the Rev. Rodney Croom, Troy Hannah, J.C. Mayfield, Charles Morse, Clinton Banks Jr. Stonne Cooper, James Earls, Loyd Lewis, Roosevelt Moore and Bobby Thorne.
Dr. Lewis died June 29, 2004 in Fresno, Calif.
He was born on July 25, 1930, in Sulphur Springs, to Chester and Josie Bell Lewis. He married Betty Jean Carlock. She survives.
Dr. Lewis was pastor of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, which he, along with a group of ministry supporters, organized in 1979, and where he spent the majority of his years in the ministry.
He was also involved in the California United State Baptist Convention, where he served as official recording secretary.
He pastored at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Fresno in 1976.
He received his Doctor of Divinity from Inter-Baptist Theological Center in Houston on Feb. 12, 1968.
He pastored at New Hope Baptist Church in 1957, where he pastored for 20 years.
He was a member of North Caney Baptist Church. He later moved to Dallas, and became a member of Munger Avenue Baptist Church, where he accepted the call into the ministry.
He attended North Caney Public School and Douglas High School in Sulphur Springs, where he participated in debate and public speaking. After graduating high school, he attended Texas Southern University to be an attorney, but entered the ministry instead.
Other survivors include three sons, Booker Taliaferro Lewis II and Mark James Lewis, both of Fresno, and Martin Luther King Lewis of Dallas; two daughters, Deborah Jean Lewis Marius of Fresno and Mary Elizabeth Lewis of Camarillo, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Shamika Tayawn Lewis, Booker Taliaferro Lewis III, Shanise Lashaa' Lewis, DeAndré Marquis Lewis, Danyelle Elizabeth Lewis, Stephen Griffin Marius II and Garratt Michael Marius; one great-grandchild, Ashton Saé veon Haney; four sisters, Cassie Clayton of Sulphur Springs, Loretta Murphy of Tyler, Eleanor Clay of Tyler and Ruth Scruggs of Dallas; and one brother, Loyd Lewis of Dallas.
Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jessie Mae Epting, Murdie Wright and Patsy Lewis; and five brothers, Herschel Lewis, Allen Ray Lewis, Chester Lewis, Henry Lewis and Samuel Lewis.

Dessie Parker
A graveside service for Dessie Parker, 79, of Sulphur Springs were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Hendersonville Memory Gardens in Hendersonville, Tenn., with Jim Tice officiating.
Mrs. Parker died at 6 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Woodhaven Nursing Home.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1924, in Russellville, Ala., to Luther and Mary Avery Henry Greenhill. She married Leon J. Parker on Oct. 28, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker.
She was a member of League Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Wilt Parker of Sulphur Springs; one daughter, Patricia Raymond of Brunswick, Ohio; one sister, Mattie King of Tuscumbia, Ala.; and her grandchildren, Kevin Parker, Natalee Parker, Stephine Raymond, Makie Raymond and Heather Raymond.
Mrs. Parker was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rebia Posey and Lydia Mae Roush.

Melba Hale Bullard West
Graveside services for Melba Hale Bullard West, 78, of Beaumont were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Emory City Cemetery.
Mrs. West died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Memorial Herman Baptist Hospital of Beaumont.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1925, in Hunt County, to Thomas and Cora Hart Hale. She married Bruce Bullard. He preceded her in death in 1988. She then married Harlan West of Sulphur Springs in 1990. He preceded her in death.
Melba Hale Bullard West was owner along with her first husband of B&B Foods in Emory.
She had been a resident of Emory.
She grew up and attended schools in Rains County.
She was a member of North End Baptist Church in Beaumont.
Survivors include one son, Marvin Bullard of Beaumont, one granddaughter, Kelly Bullard Wilson of Dallas; one grandson, John Seth Bullard of Beaumont; two great-grandsons, John Stackhouse Wilson Jr. and Gray Birdwell Wilson, both of Dallas; one brother, Carson Jale of Rowlett; and three sisters, Stella Shipley of Greenville, Pauline Smith of Dallas and Nina Phillips of Bedford.
Mrs. West was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Edith Kirby and Thelma Samples; and three brothers, Claude, Albert and John Hale.

Charlie Ray Isham
Funeral services for Charlie Ray Isham, 70, of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at West Oaks Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Benny Dixon officiating.
Burial followed in Brigham Cemetery with Jeff Phillips, Gerald Gooding, Bill Deaton, Ed Wood, Jessie Smith and Gary Crow serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Isham died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital in Greenville.
He was born in Campbell on April 9, 1934, the son of John and Minnie Click Isham. He married Patricia Wheatley in Campbell on Nov. 5, 1953. She survives.
Mr. Isham retired from Lone Star Gas Co. after 23 years of service. He also was a driver for Sulphur Springs Ford.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Garland, the Lions Club and the Methodist church.
Other survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Scott and Debra Isham of Dike, and Kenneth John Isham of Sulphur Springs; one brother, Johnny G. Isham of Commerce; and three grandchildren, Blake, Brianna and Kyle Isham.
Mr. Isham was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Marshall Ray Isham in 1974.
