Mr. Felts
Richard Clyde "Dick" Felts, 72, died Nov. 18, 2003, in Brownwood.
A memorial service was held Nov. 23 at Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood. A private burial preceded the service.
Mr. Felts was born May 31, 1931, to Dr. Richard C. and Lady Wynne Felts. He was reared in San Saba and graduated from Abilene Christian College where he played football for the Wildcats on the only undefeated and untied team in the nation in 1950.
Mr. Felts married Addie Rheiner on April 26, 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1953-54, and was stationed in England. He played semi-professional football on an Army team.
After leaving the service, Mr. Felts taught school and coached football in San Saba.
He and his wife lived in Lampasas during the late 1950s where Mrs. Felts taught school and he was an investment broker.
Mr. Felts served for many years as the manager of Abilene Christian University's cafeteria, "The Bean," in the 1970s. He owned Felts Lawn Service and Landscaping and had a guided hunting service. He raised and trained hunting dogs in the Abilene and Brownwood areas.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years; a son, Ricky and Melinda Felts, of Abilene; daughters, Susan Hatcher, of Abilene, Sara and Clifton DuBose, of Fort Worth, Sherry and Scottye Ratliff, of Brownwood, and Sharon and Bob Shipley, of Burnet; two "sons" who lived with the couple while attending Abilene Christian University, Cle Montgomery, of Irving, and Wilbert Montgomery, of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Gladys and Jack Dickison, of Lampasas; a brother and his wife, John and Dawn Felts, of San Saba; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jay Hatcher.

Mrs. Matias
Anita Maceyra Matias, 59, of Lampasas died Nov. 25, 2003, at St. David's Hospital in Austin.
Funeral services are Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rolando Pena officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Matias was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Lampasas, to Hilario and Louisa Perez Maceyra.
She married Jose Guadalupe Matias in December 1988 in Belton.
Mrs. Matias was a homemaker and a member of Primera Bautista in Lampasas. She had lived in the community all of her life.
Survivors include her husband of Lampasas; five sons, Victor Maceyra, Robert Arce, Jose Arce and Roy Bailon, all of Lampasas, and Ricky Maceyra, of San Angelo; and eight daughters, Geneva Montoya, of Marble Falls, Ester Ibarra and Anna Arce, of Burnet, Rosemary Martinez, of Killeen, Laura Shands, of Gatesville, Sally Cisneros, of Austin, Janie Martinez, of Belton, and Debbie Hernandez, of Lampasas.
Other survivors include brothers, Manuel Maceyra, Bill Maceyra and Pete Maceyra, all of Lampasas; sisters, Frances Castruita and Eugenia Johnson, of Lampasas, and Lupe Jaimes, of Killeen; 54 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Perry
Graveside services for Shirley Marie Perry, 67, of Goldthwaite were Nov. 29, 2003, at Smith Cemetery at Oakalla in Burnet County with Hansford Smith officiating.
Mrs. Perry died Nov. 27 at her residence.
She was born April 13, 1936, in San Saba, to Charlie and Willie B. Myers Dove.
Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She and her husband had been longtime residents of Goldthwaite.
Survivors include her husband, Delbert Perry, of Goldthwaite; a daughter, Susie Perry, of San Angelo; a son, Greg Perry, of Brownwood; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Gage
Mary Day Gage, 87, of San Saba died Nov. 29, 2003, in Temple.
Funeral services were Dec. 1 at Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba with the Rev. Sam Crosby officiating assisted by the Rev. Andy Papson. Burial followed at High Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Gage was born May 7, 1916, to John F. and Maggie Joe Means Day in San Saba, where she was a lifelong resident.
She married Truett Gage on July 22, 1934, in San Saba.
At the age of 74, Mrs. Gage completed her requirements and graduated with the 1990 senior class of San Saba High School, earning her GED.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Malissa Lemons, of Bend, and Gloria Lemons, of San Saba; six grandchildren, Bruce Lemons, Teresa Lemons, Lesa Preece, Danny Lemons, Keith Lemons and Tracy Lemons; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kristen, Jeffrey, Jeramy, Eric, Christopher, Clay, Brodie and Chelsea; two sisters, Bernice Millican, of Bend, and Frances Holcomb, of Cherokee; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 7, 1983; by a son-in-law, Robert Lemons; and by two sisters.
Arrangements by Howell-Doran Funeral Home of San Saba.

Mr. Summerville
Schelly Wayne Summerville, 53, died Nov. 29, 2003, at a Granbury hospital.
A memorial service is set Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mr. Summerville was born Feb. 7, 1950, in Lampasas, to R.D. and R.V. Hodge Hester. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Summerville, of Joshua; sons, Nathan Summerville, of Orlando, Fla., and Ryan Summerville, of Joshua; a daughter, Elizabeth Summerville, of Austin; a brother, Bobby Summerville, and Alice Jackson, of Valley View; and sisters, JoAnn Davidson, and husband, Jack, of Lampasas, Loretta Jean Crawford, and husband, Ruben, of Palestine, and Nicky Wilkinson, and husband, Dan, of Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny Summerville; and by a daughter, Gloria Hoiyt.

Mrs. Burns
Sylvia Estella Burns, 46, of Lampasas died Sept. 26, 2003, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital.
Funeral services were Sept. 29 at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with Deacon Carlos Jasso officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 20, 1956, in Del Rio, to Arturo and Estella Maria Rios Ramirez.
She married Terry Lynn Burns on Dec. 26, 1975, in San Angelo. They were high school sweethearts and met at Cho Fu High School in Tokyo, Japan.
After they married, they traveled extensively, visiting the Philippines, Japan, Germany, Austria and Paris.
Mrs. Burns was a housewife and had worked for a number of years for Jolene's Gems in Lampasas.
She was a member of the Lampasas Art Gallery and was in charge of scheduling at the gallery. She taught the art of stained glass to many in Lampasas.
Mrs. Burns was very active with the Cho Fu High School alumni and her class in Tokyo, which was composed of American children of military parents serving in Tokyo.
She had been instrumental in keeping up with her fellow classmates and keeping them in touch with each others.
Mrs. Burns was a Catholic. She had been in the community since 1994, moving from Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
She is survived by her husband of Lampasas; two daughters, Evaughn Martin, of Copperas Cove, and Constance Pugh, of Kempner; her parents of San Angelo; three brothers, Arturo Ramirez Jr., Michael Ramirez and Jerry Ramirez, all of San Angelo, one sister, Sabrina Ramirez, of San Angelo; and a grandson, Patrick Burns, of Lampasas.

Mrs. Carson-Ford
Oma Lea Patterson Carson Ford, age 97, died peacefully on September 24 at Spring Oaks Terrace in Lampasas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Lampasas on Saturday, September 27 at 3 p.m. with interment at Prairie View Cemetery, Briggs, Texas. Rev. Max Copeland and Dr. Adrian Coleman will officiate. Visitation will precede the service at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Carson-Ford was born November 3, 1905 at Briggs, Texas, the child of James Lee and Lillie Berry Patterson. Her paternal grandfather, Mark Patterson helped to organize the Briggs State Bank and Farmers State Bank of Florence. Her maternal great-grandfather, Houston Davis, planted his roots on Rocky Creek in Burnet County in 1875. Both families came to Texas from Tennessee. Her maternal grandfather William S. Berry of Fayette Co., Alabama caught the "Texas Fever" and settled just South of Lampasas in 1870.
Oma graduated from Briggs Public School in 1921 and married Thad R. Carson in 1922. They operated the Carson Garage at Briggs for 42 years. Oma became a teacher, touching the lives of countless students. She taught private piano lessons and public school music at Briggs, Bertram, and Lampasas and was a regular third and fourth grade classroom teacher at Andice Public Schools. Thad and Oma moved to Lampasas in 1957. After Thad's death in 1964, she married Roy D. Ford in 1975. Mr. Ford preceded her in death in 1985.
Oma received a bachelor of science degree in 1956 from the University of Texas and a master of science degree from Howard Payne College in 1960.
Mrs. Carson-Ford was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her home was full of hospitality and love for her extended family and many friends. She was an avid "84" domino player. She served her community quietly and without desiring recognition, with pride and sincere joy. She lived a full life of service to her family, church, and community. She worked in Sunday School many years and served as church pianist at Briggs Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Lampasas for more than 60 years. She provided music for numerous funerals, weddings, graduations, and other special events. Mrs. Carson-Ford also belonged to Retired Teacher's Association; Delta Kappa Gamma; and Eastern Star.
Oma was also preceded in death by one son, T.R. Carson Jr. in 1984, a brother Marcus Earl Patterson and a great-granddaughter Allison Carson.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Glynda Carson Carpenter and Dayton L. and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Novella Carson, both of Lampasas. Also surviving are seven grandsons, Harlan Carson of Kountze, Texas, Randall Carson of Tatum, Texas and Terry and Lee Carson of Lampasas, Pat, Mike and Ray Carpenter of Lampasas, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and one nephew Jack Patterson of Briggs, Texas.
Arrangements were with Briggs and Gamel Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Christian Education Scholarship Fund or the Church Library Fund, 402 S. Key Avenue, Lampasas, Texas 76550.

Mrs. Hale
Funeral services for Dorothy Lancaster Hale, 81, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Hale died Saturday in a Mansfield hospital after an extended illness.
She was born August 30, 1922, in Dallas, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dailey. At the age of 3, she and her brother, Billy, were taken in as foster children by Mr. and Mrs. Harris Lancaster who lived north of Lampasas on School Creek. She attended school at Friendship through the sixth grade, and then attended Lampasas schools through her graduation in 1940.
She attended Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton until World War II began. Then she enlisted in the Women's Air Corps, serving first in Dallas then in Cincinnati, Ohio, as part of a translation/decoding team keeping track of all Air Corps planes in Europe. During the war she also served as a general's secretary.
After the war, she worked briefly as a bookkeeper for Fulton Brown, then returned to Mary Hardin- Baylor where she completed her degree in history in 1948. She taught in Lampasas in 1948-1949 and 1949-1950 in sixth grade and in high school. It was while she was teaching that one of her students, Ray Hail Jr., introduced her to his Uncle Truman, and they were married November 22, 1949, at the Lancaster home on School Creek.
When their first child was born, Mrs. Hale left teaching to become a full-time housewife. When the children became older, she took some part-time jobs, working as a cashier at Cash Grocery on the square and at the snack bar at Fretwell Drug Store.
The Hales moved to the house on Chestnut Street in the summer of 1960, and they lived there until the summer of 2001. She was a Baptist since her childhood, having been a member at one time of the Baptist churches in Adamsville and Kempner, as well as Northside, Skyview and Second Baptist churches in Lampasas. Since 1973, she has been a member of First Baptist Church of Kempner, where she was the teacher of the adult women's class for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 53 years, Truman Preston Hale; her parents, Fred O. Dailey and Ora Clark Dailey Pippin; her foster parents, Harris and Grace Lancaster; her husband's parents, Joe and Beulah Hail; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mary Dailey of Midwest City, Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret Middleton of Richland Hills; a brother-in-law, Herbert Allen King of Odessa; brothers- and sisters-in-law, George and Saba Hughes of Kempner and Ray Sr. and Pauline Hail of Lampasas; a niece, Peggy Wright of Copperas Cove; and several nephews, Ron Varney and Ray Hail Jr. and his wife Wanda of Lampasas, Murray and Jeff Urofsky of Kempner, and Floyd Kattner of Copperas Cove.
Survivors include her children, Ann and Dorothy Jean Hale of Arlington; Truman Hale and wife Renee of Conway, Arkansas; two grandsons, Corey Hale of Arlington and Graham Hale and wife Leslie Hale of Olive Branch, Mississippi; a granddaughter, Casey Hale of Conway, Arkansas; a brother, Billy Lancaster of Amarillo; a sister, LaVerne King of Odessa; and nieces and nephews, Linda Lancaster McDonald of Blanco, Jim Lancaster of Lampasas, Audrey Lancaster of Dallas, Eddie Lancaster of Amarillo, Ron and Marybeth Dailey of Oklahoma City, Paula Gail Dailey of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Dale and Jan King of Garland, Gale and Bill King of Odessa, Clark and Madeleine Middleton of Peel, Arkansas, Mike and Jane Middleton of Howe, Steve Middleton of Colorado, Paul Middleton and Peggy Martin of Dallas, Quentin and Derliece Hughes and Pansy Urofsky of Kempner, Quita Kattner of Copperas Cove, Pamela Varney, Danny and Debbie Hail and Michael Hail of Lampasas; and numerous lifelong friends and former students.
