Mr. Booker
Funeral services for Vance A. Booker, 85, of Lampasas were March 17, 2006, at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Booker died March 14 at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
He was born Jan. 6, 1921, in the Center City Community in Mills County, to Melvin and Mary Elizabeth Lucas Booker.
On Sept. 10, 1943, he married Vela Stephan in Goldthwaite.
Mr. Booker served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1964, he moved to Lampasas and retired from Lone Star Gas with more than 37 years of service.
Mr. Booker was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in his later years he enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; two daughters, Linda Miller, and husband, Shorty, of Cedar Park, and Gloria Hall-Bower, of Bertram; seven grandchildren, Kathie Miller, Kevin Churchwell, Amber Shaw, Bryan Hall, Steve Hall, Ron Hall and Paul Hall; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Booker, and a sister, Ethel Graham.
Pallbearers were Kevin Churchwell, Chance Webb, Larry Holybee, Bryan Hall, Travis Shaw, Steve Hall, Ron Hall, Paul Hall and Matthew Neely.
Honorary pallbearers were Shorty Miller, Danny Brittain, Charles Van Stephan and Fred Faust.
The family requested memorials be made to Community Church in Lampasas.

Mrs. Baladez
Funeral services for Belton resident Maria Baladez, 90, were March 15, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas with Deacon Carlos Jasso officiating.
Mrs. Baladez died March 12 at St. Mark's Medical Center in LaGrange.
She was born Jan. 14, 1916, in Lometa, to Marion and Petra Gonzales Belesquez.
She married Pete Baladez and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Baladez was a homemaker and a Catholic. She lived most of her life in the Belton and Temple areas.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Markey and Josephine Smith, both of Belton; one sister, Catarina (Kay) Velasquez, of Lampasas; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Baladez; a daughter, Antonia Watkins; and by a brother, Joe Velasquez.

Mr. Brackett
Thomas Howard Brackett Jr., 48, of Kempner died March 9, 2006, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
Funeral services are March 18 at 5 p.m. at Sheppard Chapel of Memories in Copperas Cove with Brother Thomas Edwards of Clear Creek Baptist Church officiating.
The body will be cremated.
Mr. Brackett was born Dec. 22, 1957, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Thomas H. and Patricia Ann Watkins Brackett.
He married Traci N. Hyman on Oct. 27, 2002, in Lampasas.
Mr. Brackett was an electrician.
He is survived by his wife of Kempner; two daughters, Alisha Brackett and Patricia Brackett, both of Tennessee; two sons, Austin Pettis, of Alberta, Canada, and Jeremy Pettis, of Kempner; one brother, Michael Brackett, of Kempner; and his father of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and by a brother, Richard Brackett.

Mrs. Barker
Funeral services for Pearl Barker, 87, of Lampasas are March 18, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Kevin Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Barker died March 15 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.
She was born May 17, 1918, in Sonora, to Cal and Annie Cargill Ory.
On Nov. 28, 1959, she married J.W. Barker in Llano, and he preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Barker was a beautician and an accomplished seamstress. She had owned a convenience store in the 1950s. She was a member of First Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister, Viola Jones, and husband, L.E., of Brownwood; a sister-in-law, Elaine Ory, of Salado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Earnest
Lucille Cunningham Earnest died March 11, 2006, at her Lampasas residence. She was 92.
A memorial service was held March 12 at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Earnest was born June 3, 1913, in Lometa. She had lived in Austin for 39 years and was a legal secretary for a Texas Supreme Court judge in Austin for many years.
She was a Seventh Day Adventist in Killeen.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Earnest and Jane Wright, and husband, Bob, all of Lampasas; a son, Thomas M. Earnest, and wife, Linda, of Rociada, N.M.; and three grandchildren, Scott Earnest, of Longmont, Colo., Amy Earnest, of Denver, Colo., and Joanna Hill, of Canton.
The family requested memorials be made to Lampasas Public Library, 201 S. Main St., Lampasas, TX 76550.

Mr. Camp
Floyd Raymond Camp, 70, of Copperas Cove died March 9, 2006, at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
Graveside services with full military honors were held March 13 at Copperas Cove City Cemetery with the Rev. Edward Hall officiating.
Mr. Camp was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Paul Leon and Helen Shirley Sigman Camp.
He retired from the U.S. Army and was owner of Camp Insurance Agency.
He is survived by four daughters, Carol Hollstein, of California, Cathy Bombardier, of Nevada, Penny Boyce, of Lampasas, and Samantha Camp, of Copperas Cove; two sons, Floyd R. (Rocky) Camp II, and Shawn Camp, both of Copperas Cove; four sisters, Joyce Shaw, of Wisconsin, and Anna Rowland, Patty Camp and Debbie DeSanto, all of New York; two brothers, Charles Camp and Arthur Camp, both of New York; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Camp; by brothers, Paul Camp Jr., and Warren Camp; by sons, James R. Downing and Terry Myers; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers were Rocky Camp, Charlie Boyce, Shawn Camp, David Fischer, Brock Camp, Jamie Camp and Chad Freeman.

Mrs. Olivares
Funeral services for Carolina H. Olivares, 81, of Lampasas were June 9, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Deacon Carlos Jasso officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Olivares died June 8 at Regal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Lampasas.
She was born to Marcelo and Melitona Aguirre Hernandez on Dec. 22, 1924, in Lampasas, where she was a lifetime resident.
She married Jose C. Olivares on May 17, 1948, in Lampasas.
Mrs. Olivares was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a renowned cook and enjoyed gardening and television.
Survivors include five sons, Joe Olivares Jr., and wife, Rita, and Raul Olivares, all of Lampasas, Jimmy Ray Olivares, and wife, Jenice, of San Saba, Nelson Olivares, and wife, Elizabeth, of Brownwood, Daniel Bocanegra, and wife, Hilda, of DeLeon; and three daughters, Janie Morua, and husband, Julio, of Evant, Linda Weaver, and husband, Fred, of Gatesville, and Ramona Ellis, and husband, Thad, of Brownwood.
Other survivors include three brothers, Venito Hernandez, of Friona, Marcelo Hernandez, of Comanche, and Rosendo Hernandez, of San Antonio; four sisters, Lupe Jass and Betty Cox, both of Lampasas, and Lala Guerra and Emilia Moreno, both of Comanche; 31 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; by a son, Albert Bocanegra; a brother, Floyd Hernandez; a grandson, Cameron Quinn; and a great-granddaughter, Donna O'Daniel.
Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters.

Cleo Alene Jones
Cleo Alene Jones, 90, a lifelong resident of the Copperas Cove area, died May 29, 2006, in Lampasas.
Funeral services were June 1 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove with Pastor Timothy Ochsner of Faith Lutheran Church in Lampasas officiating. Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Copperas Cove.
Mrs. Jones was born June 29, 1915, in Silverton, to P.A. and Minnie Culpepper Jones.
On Nov. 20, 1935, she married Gerhard H. Cassens in Copperas Cove.
Mrs. Jones was instrumental in assisting her husband on the ranch near Topsey. In 1994, she left the ranch and moved to Lampasas.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Arlene Cassens, of Lampasas; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Alvie Jones, Cliff E. Jones, Gary Brooks, Wayland Endsley, Lee Cassens and Weldon Schneider.
The family requested memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund in care of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 922 Lutheran Church Rd., Copperas Cove, TX 76522, or to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. McCune
Former Cedar Creek resident William David McCune of Lampasas died May 30, 2006, at Regal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lampasas.
Mr. McCune was 85.
A private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation is June 3 from 1-3 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas. At 2 p.m., there will be a reading, prayer and song.
Mr. McCune was born April 19, 1921, in Joaquin, to William Leonard and Mable DeMoss McCune.
He married Joy Ruth Thompson on Sept. 18, 1941, in Overton.
Mr. McCune served for two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines during World War II.
He was a self-employed consultant as an instrument specialist in the construction engineering industry.
Mr. McCune was a member of Bateman Baptist Church in Red Rock. He moved to Lampasas in November 2005 from Cedar Creek.
His hobbies included administration and organization.
He is survived by his wife of Lampasas; three daughters, Glenda Sue Adams, and husband, Alfred, of Houston, Cheryl (C.J.) Kofman, and husband, John Snell Kofman, of Lampasas, and Marcia Lea McCune, of Warsaw, Ky.; five grandchildren, Martha, Greg, Fred, David and Donna; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Hannah, Rebekah, Alfred, Samantha and Weston.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
The family requested memorials be made to VistaCare Hospice in Temple.
