Dr. Thomson
Philip Depoyster Thomson, an accomplished transplant immunologist, medical illustrator, published researcher, innovative teacher and mentor died June 23, 2007, at his residence in Friendswood after an extended illness. He was 63.
A memorial service is June 30 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Friendswood with the Rev. Robert J. Moore officiating.
His ashes will be scattered at his home on the ranch of friends, the Pugrud family in Winnett, Mont.
Dr. Thomson was born March 13, 1943, in San Angelo, to John Throckmorton and Hazel Parnell Thomson.
He completed his education in Lometa and graduated from San Angelo Junior College with an associate's degree in art.
Dr. Thomson then attended Johns Hopkins University and rendered medical illustrations for Wilmer Eye Institute, returning to San Angelo to attend Angelo State University to complete a bachelor of science degree in biology.
He received a master of science degree in microbiology and a PhD in microbiology from Montana State University.
As an assistant professor at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Dr. Thomson served as director of microbiology at Shriners Burn Institute and led research efforts in infection control. He served as director of clinical laboratories for burn research at the University of Michigan Hospitals, where he was a pioneer in the field of tissue banking.
Dr. Thomson was instrumental in the development of new treatments and therapies to help burn patients. After retiring from burn and trauma care, Dr. Thomson served as director of technology assessment at Mallinckrodt Inc. in St. Louis, acting as primary technical liaison for the respiratory division.
He has been manager of licensing in the office of technology commercialization at MD Anderson Cancer Center since January 2001.
Dr. Thomson authored many professional articles and abstracts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Carol DeMambro Thomson; a son, Philip D. Thomson Jr., and wife, Karen, of Holland, Mich.; stepchildren, Matthew Anderson, of Okinawa, Japan, and Gillian and Jeffrey Anderson, of Friendswood; brothers, John T. Thomson, and wife, Elizabeth, of Dallas, and Carr Benton Thomson, and wife, Pat, of Junction; a sister-in-law, Sandra Thomson, of Eagle Lake; his in-laws, David and Jean Cohen, of Jamestown, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Dana DeMambro; a cousin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel P. Thomson, and by his first wife, Margaret.
The family requested memorials be made to Flatwillow Memorial Hall, in care of Raye Ann Lund, P.O. Box 100, Winnett, Mont. MT, 59087; or Hospice Care Team, 1708 Amburn Rd., Suite C., Texas City, TX 77591; or MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Mrs. Cavness
Funeral services for Bernice Cavness, 93, of Lampasas, formerly of Cherokee, are June 26, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Cherokee Church of Christ with Minister Doug Suggs officiating. Burial will be at Kuykendall Cemetery near Cherokee.
Mrs. Cavness died June 23 at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
She was born May 18, 1914, in Cherokee, to Bert and Gertrude Arrott Parisher.
Mrs. Cavness was married to Damon Cavness, and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cherokee Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Pat Cavness, of Lampasas; a daughter, Danna Seale, of Lampasas; 10 grandchildren, Susan Seale, Scott Seale, Chris Seale, Joel Cavness, Lorri Haden, Joshua Cavness, Lindy Cavness, Darrell Cavness, Pamela Yates and Sharon Butler; and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew Seale, Brian Seale, Patrick Seale, Zach Haden, Daniel Haden, Caleb Cavness, Chloe Cavness, Damon Cavness and Gabriel Green.
The family requested memorials be made to Cherokee Children's Home of Lampasas Association for the Arts.

Mrs. Neeley
Services are pending with Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove for Martha Neeley, 71, of Kempner.
She died June 22, 2007, in Lampasas.

Mrs. Anderson
Kempner resident Mattie Ethel Anderson died June 23, 2007, at her residence. She was 58.
Funeral services with Eastern Star rites are June 27 at 11 a.m. at Sheppard Chapel of Memories in Copperas Cove with the Rev. John Hooser officiating.
The body will be cremated.
Mrs. Anderson was born Sept. 12, 1948, in Fort Worth, to Vernon and Opal Esch Cantrell. She grew up in Denton and moved to the Central Texas area in 1981.
She married Gary L. Anderson on Nov. 10, 1988, in Gatesville.
Mrs. Anderson was a store clerk for 7-11 and a member of Robertson Avenue Baptist Church in Copperas Cove.
She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 1070, where she served as worthy matron from 1995-96 and again from 2003-04.
Survivors include her husband of Kempner; two daughters, Stephanie Pate, and husband, Jordan, and Casey Whatley, and husband, Kyle, all of Kempner; a son, Vernon Foote, and wife, Susan, of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren, William Anderson, Kenneth Mask IV, Stephen Anderson, Kayla Whatley, Misty Whatley, Ty Herring, Dusty Whatley, Bo Whatley, Susan Lynch and Chelbi Foote, all of Kempner, and Loralee Foote and Cory Foote, both of San Antonio; and a niece and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister, Beverly Cantrell Raper.
The family requested memorials be made to Robertson Avenue Baptist Church Youth Program.

Ms. Townsen
Alma LaVerne Townsen, 85, of Lampasas, formerly of Alvin, died June 23, 2007, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
Funeral services are June 27 at 10 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with the Rev. Raymond Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Townsen Cemetery near Adamsville.
Ms. Townsen was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Lampasas County, the daughter of Clarence and Bernice McCann Townsen.
As a child, she joined Adamsville Presbyterian Church and continued her association with the church during her years in Alvin.
She graduated from Lometa High School in 1938 and earned a bachelor's degree from Daniel Baker College.
Ms. Townsen returned to Lometa and taught school there for eight years. In 1949, she moved to Alvin where she taught fifth grade for 30 years.
Ms. Townsen pursued a master's degree at the University of Texas. An injury forced her to delay the start of her fall teaching term at Alvin.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's Group, the Texas State Textbook Committee, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Alvin Retired Teacher's Association and the Texas State Teacher's Association.
She is survived by a number of relatives and friends: Mr. and Mrs. Forest McCann; Mr. and Mrs. David McCann and Ryan and Shelly; Carol McCann; Mr. and Mrs. John McCann and Molly and Mason; Mr. and Mrs. George McCann; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Simpson and Orin; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Haviland and family; Matt Carroll; Rebekah Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. James Pierce and Breck; Mr. and Mrs. Grady Martin and family; Mr. and Mrs. Cody McCann and family; Robert McCann; Shirley Kopp and family; A.A. Fields and family; Bobby George Fields and family; Mr. and Mrs. Fred McCann and family; and Mr. and Mrs. Von Wayne West.

Mrs. Campbell
Addie Mae Campbell, 91, a longtime resident of the Killeen area, died July 29, 2007, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were Aug. 2 at First United Methodist Church in Killeen with the Revs. Ray Blancet and Dr. J. Andy Fowler officiating. Burial was at Killeen City Cemetery.
Mrs. Campbell was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Killeen, to Willis Elijah and Leona Cox Bynum.
She graduated in the Killeen High School Class of 1934.
Mrs. Campbell was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church in Killeen and attended Friendship Sunday School Class.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Newton Campbell, and by two sons, James Henry Campbell and Jack Bynum Campbell.
The family requested memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Killeen.

Mr. Moreau
A memorial service for Lampasas resident Mark Allen Moreau is Aug. 3, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Vineyard Church, 5015 Grove West Blvd., in Stafford with the Rev. Herschell Rosser officiating.
Mr. Moreau died July 29 in San Saba County. He was 32.
He was born Oct. 15, 1974, in Houston, to David Higginbotham and Linda Moreau.
Mr. Moreau married Kelly Clay on Oct. 13, 1999, in Fort Worth.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Moreau was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; a son, Joseph Allen Moreau, of Lampasas; two daughters, Hailey Moreau and Natalie Moreau, both of Lampasas; his mother, Linda Higginbotham, of Houston; his father of Sugarland; grandparents, Jeanette Moreau, of Pearland, and Floyd and Jo Higginbotham, of Navasota; one sister, Jeannie Cole, of Houston; and a niece.
The family requested memorials be made to the Moreau family.

Mr. Krans
Edward O. Krans died July 27, 2007. He was 85.
The body will be cremated and his ashes will be buried icon at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen at a later date.
Mr. Krans was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Mears, Mich., to Oscar G. and Anna E. Krantz Krans.
He married Caroline M. Nelson on June 9, 1943, in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Krans was a retired railroad agent from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad.
He was baptized on March 12, 1922, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on Feb. 29, 1948.
He is survived by his wife of Lampasas; daughters, Claire Neagley, and husband, the Rev. Richard Neagley, of Terryville, Conn., and Kay Gillian, of Lampasas; two sons, Glen Krans, and wife, Faye, of Manassas, Va., and Neil Krans, and wife, Dorothy, of Peveley, Mo.; a brother, Raymond Krans, and wife, Ida of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McDaniel
Funeral services for Patsy Charlene Nichols McDaniel, 71, are July 31, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Mrs. McDaniel died July 28 at Hospice Austin Christopher House in Austin.
She was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Burnet County, the daughter of Fred Allen and Alline Alabama Clark Nichols. She was a fifth-generation Texan, a descendant of early settlers in Lampasas and Coryell counties.
Mrs. McDaniel attended Lampasas schools and graduated with All A's from Jackson Business College in Lampasas in December 1955.
She later attended Okaloosa Walton Junior College in Niceville, Fla., and Central Texas College in Killeen.
Mrs. McDaniel completed the core courses in real estate and later obtained her Texas realtor license.
She worked most of her life with federal Civil Service bases in Texas, Germany and Florida, retiring in 1994 from federal Civil Service at Camp Mabry in Austin.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Church of Christ in Leander.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charles McDaniel; by a son and his wife, Steve and Kaye McDaniel; a daughter, Dala Jenkins; four grandchildren, James Jenkins III, Elizabeth Jenkins, Isaac McDaniel and Joshua McDaniel; a sister, Bess Lynn Ward, of Mineral Wells; a brother-in-law, James McDaniel Sr., and wife, of Jay, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requested memorials be made to Leander Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 530, Leander, TX 78466 or Cherokee Children's Home in Cherokee.
