Kanova Long

WOLFE CITY - Kanova Lee Long, 76, of Wolfe City, died Monday at Medical City Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City with Bishop Steven Anderson, Bishop Frank Ross and Murl Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

She was born in Knox County on Dec. 3, 1921 to William Thomas and Fannie Lou Loper. She married Billy W. Long in Bakersfield, Calif., on Feb. 5, 1982. She was a retired cosmetologist. Mrs. Long was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are her husband of Wolfe City; a son, Banny B. Cochran of Augusta, Ga.; one stepson, Kevin Long of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Pat Moffet of Snyder and Oma Jones of Garland; four brothers, William Loper of Odessa, Clarence Loper of Bakersfield, Calif., Dorman Loper of La Grange and Darrell Loper of Bakersfield, Calif.; three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Sherrill Hicks, Shelley Thornton, Mickey Money, Sonny Davidson, Louie Bill Robinson, Johnny Davis and Denny Dry.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas Schneider

Thomas Evans Schneider, 93, of Commerce died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. There will be a memorial service Feb. 21.

Son of Franklin and Louise Elizabeth Landers Schneider, he was born Feb. 20, 1904 in Van Buren, Ind. He married Olena Wade in April, 1935, in Longview. He was an oil field swabber with Servicio Pozos Anzoategui in Anaco, Venezuela and retired approximately 28 years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Elsie Harrison of Jayton and Ruth Morrison of Campbell; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1972; a son, Bill Schneider and a daughter, Mary Fulton.

Ruby Stephens

QUINLAN - Ruby Jewell Stephens, 74, of Wills Point died Tuesday at Lake Pointe in Rowlett. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Quinlan with Randy Reagan officiating.

She was born in Alabama, daughter of Lafayette and Viola Bentley Stewart.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Voto of Stratford, Okla. and Helen Wisner of Canyon; a sister, Barbara Bell of Ft. Payne, Ala.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Lenord Stewart in 1959 and a sister, Edna Stephens in 1997.

Kenneth Thomison

LEONARD - Graveside services for Kenneth Wayne Thomison of Leonard are at 2 p.m. today in the Leonard Cemetery with Rev. Dewain Evors officiating. He died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

He was born Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville, son of Steven Thomison and Marci Havens Thomison.

Survivors include his parents of Leonard; a sister, A'Jae Mechelle Thomison of Leonard; a brother, Keith Dalton Thomison of Leonard; his grandparents and great-grandparents.

Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.

Lee Williams

BLUE RIDGE - Lee Williams, 92, of Blue Ridge died Tuesday at Columbia Medical Center in McKinney. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge with Rev. Gilbert Calloway, Rev. Bruce Willis and Rev. J.D. Horton officiating. Burial is in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 8, 1905, in Blue Ridge; the daughter of John and Seiga Morris. She was married to Rev. Peck Williams. She was a member of the Altoga Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Dark and Marie Wilson, both of Dallas; two sons, H.F. Williams of Irving and Shorty Williams of Garland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Blue Ridge, which is in charge of the arrangements.

J.B. Alder

HUGO, Okla. - J.B. Alder, 74, of Greenville died Friday in Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. at Miller and Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick McClure officiating. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Alder was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Hugo; the son of Josesph and Mary Francis Alder. He owned and operated Choctaw Printing in Hugo for several years, before moving to Greenville three years ago.

He was a U.S. Army veteran; having served in World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hugo.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Alder, of Greenville; one son, J.B. Alder Jr. of Greenville; and one sister, Cora Alder of Hugo.

Bill Chesser

FARMERSVILLE - Willie Ray "Bill" Chesser, 71, of Farmersville died Sunday in Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Dick Center officiating. Burial is in Philadelphia Cemetery.

Mr. Chesser was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Bonham; the son of Calvin and Vera Box Chessher. He married Sybil Pyles on July 4, 1950, in Bailey. He was a retired Farmersville Independent School District employee and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife of Farmersville, daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Danny Stinson of Ruidoso, N.M., and Connie and Andy Talley of Farmersville; sisters, Ruth Nicely of Whitewright and Elizabeth Circles of Denison; brothers, Calvin Chesser Jr. of Whitewright and Haskell Chesser of Sherman; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Benito Sanchez

QUINLAN - Benito Sanchez, 53, of Royse City died Friday in Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Lybrand Funeral Home Chapel with Monsignor John McCallum officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mr. Sanchez was born March 6, 1944, in Mercedes; the son of Santos and Celia Garza Sanchez. A landscaper, he was a member of the Catholic church.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine Benavides Sanchez of Royse City; sons, Santos Sanchez of Royse City and Benito Sanchez of Amarillo; daughters,. Cornia Ruiz, Doris Valadez and Anita Sanchez, all of Royse City, and Linda Miranda of Garland; brother, Jose Sanchez of Donna; sisters, Ofelia Navarro of Weslaco, Oraria Lozoya of Harligen and Maria Sanchez and Rosie Gonzales, both of Donna; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Santos Sanchez, Oscar Meranda, Joe Sanchez Jr., Thomas Valadez and Gome Ruiz.

James Arledge

James Franklin Arledge, 62, of Quinlan, died Thursday at Doctors Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Vansickle Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Ratliff officiating. Burial is in Dry Creek Cemetery.

He was born May 17, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Ark.; the son of John I. Arledge Sr. and Marian Williams. He married Patricia Greenhill on Aug. 25, 1968 in Sherrill, Ark. He was a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines and was Quinlan Independent School District Transportation Supervisor. He was a member of Vansickle Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Quinlan; two sons, James Edmond Arledge of Nashville, Tenn. and Franklin Scott Arledge of Quinlan; three daughters, Karen Carruth of Quinlan, Carla Moody of White Hall, Ark. and Sarah Botlinger of Georgetown; six brothers, John T. Arledge Jr. of Wabbaseka, Ark., Charles B. Arledge of Tonitown, Ark., Richard Arledge of Pine Bluff, Ark., Dwayne Arledge of Allen, Gerald Arledge of Pine Bluff, Ark. and Billy Arledge of Wabbaseka, Ark.; five sisters, Lanella Bost of Pine Bluff, Ark., Shirley McGinnis of Newark, Del., Carol Giddens of Flower Mound, Jayne Camp of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Marilyn Bubbus of Hensley, Ark. and 13 grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Coker

Vera Naomi Coker, 91, of Sulphur Springs died Friday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville with Rev. Tommy Hall and Rev. Mike House officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

The daughter of Charles C. Cates and Pearl Standifer Cates, she was born Aug. 28, 1906. She married Truman Wesley Coker on Sept. 2, 1924 in Farmersville. Mrs. Coker was a member of First United Methodist Church in Commerce.

She is survived by a son, Billy Coker of Commerce; a daughter, Patsy Boss of Sulphur Springs; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 25, 1962; a son, Merle Douglas Coker in 1966 and two brothers, Earl Cates and Lois Cates.

Pallbearers are Brad Arrington, Lloyd Ray Coker, Raymond Sweetman, Bobby Cates, Don Cantwell, Clifton Cates and Monty Tipps.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley Horton

Shirley Horton of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There will be a private memorial service at a future date.

The daughter of George F. Pringle and Evelyn Rose Carney Pringle, she was born in Schuylkill Haven, Pa. on July 22, 1926. She married Homer Horton Jr. on Dec. 23, 1946. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Horton was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Greenville; a son, Michael L. Horton of Allen; two daughters, Laurie Horton Houdek of Melissa and Cheryl Ann Horton of Grapevine and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Visitation will be at Peters Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

James Jackson

James Edward Jackson of Greenville died at his residence Friday. There is a memorial service at Kavanaugh Methodist Church at 2 p.m. today with Rev. Ben Shinn officiating.

He was born in Centralia, Ill. on Sept. 9, 1935 to Virgil Lester Jackson and Marcella Fern Norton. He married Jane Russell in Reno, Nev. in October, 1981. Mr. Jackson was a mail carrier in Hunt County.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; his mother and stepfather, Fern and Floyd Dickenson of Greenville; two sons, Michael Chapman of Carrollton and Matthew Chapman of Pittsburg; two daughters, Julie Rod and Debbie Jackson, both of Princeton, Ill.; a brother, Jerry Jackson of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, June Applein of Quinlan and Janet Jones of Wills Point and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson, Joseph Sluis.

Memorials may be made to Family Hospice, 2824 Terrell Road, Suite 403, Greenville or to the American Cancer Society.

Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Ash

WYLIE - Irene Ash, 84, of Wylie died Wednesday at her residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Draper Chapel with Dr. A.L. Draper officiating. Burial is in Wylie Cemetery.

Mrs. Ash was born Dec. 16, 1913 in Athens, Texas; the daughter of James Monroe and Tommye Jane Rodgers. She was retired electronics technician with Texas Instruments and a Baptist.

Surviving are a daughter, Ollene Shaffer of Wylie; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.T. Ash.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Belcher

WOLFE CITY - Roy Lee Belcher, 76, of Lone Oak died Wednesday at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 3, 1921 in Arkansas, son of Sanford and Elsie Mae McKay Belcher. Mr. Belcher was a retired sign painter. He was a Baptist.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Elliott of Mesquite; a son, Richard Belcher of Mesquite; four brothers, S.L. Belcher Jr. of Ridgeway, Doyle Belcher of Atlanta, David Belcher of Denison and Daryle Belcher of Commerce and two sisters, Pauline Ervin of Dallas and Janice Taylor of Plano.

Pallbearers will be James Elliott, Mark Elliott, David Belcher, Carl Taylor, Rickie Taylor and Rickie Mark.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Porter Branscome

LEONARD - Funeral services for Porter Aaron Branscome, 92, of Pike are at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pike Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Bates officiating. Burial is in the Pike Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at the Wilson N. Jones Regional Health System in Sherman.

He was born Oct. 22, 1905 in Middlesboro, Ky., son of Conrad Branscome and Blanch Elmore Branscome. He married Nedra Parrish on Oct. 15, 1934 in Victory. He was a tooling engineer for Ryan Aircraft and a dairy farmer. Mr. Branscome was a member of the Pike Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Pike; daughters June Evans of Pike, Gayle Deel of Leonard and Jean Smith of Pottsboro; sons Randy Branscome of Leonard and Danny Branscome of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard, which is in charge of arrangements.
