Wayne Shipp

EMORY - Wayne Shipp, 78, of Quitman, died Friday at East Texas Medical Center in Quitman. Funeral services are at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Jim Houston officiating. Burial is in Pilgrim Rest No. 1 Cemetery.

Born in Rains County on March 2, 1920, he was the son of W.L. and Sarah Newport Shipp. He married Glenna Teer Shipp on Sept. 13, 1937 in Alba. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include special friend, Doris Kirby of Quitman; two sons, Deward D. "Sonny" Shipp of Emory and Jerry L. Shipp of Frisco; two daughters, Anita Renfro of Quinlan and Ronda Peterea of Quinlan; a brother, John E. Shipp of Greenville; sisters, Bertha Middleton of Quitman, Blanche Garrett of Alba and Myrtle Dittman of Emory; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985 and a grandchild in 1978.

Pallbearers are Robert Renfro, Mike Peterea, Allen Neff, Jackie Shipp, Jay Shipp, and Jack Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Don Shipp, Kenneth Shipp and Kenneth Winn.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Thompson

SULPHUR SPRINGS -Memorial services for Helen R. Thompson, 85, of Sulphur Springs are at 3 p.m. today at the Myra Wilson Chapel at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Touchstone officiating. She died Thursday at the Carriage House Manor Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 10, 1913 in Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of W.C. and Tommie Lillian Minter Hurst. She married James E. Thompson on Nov. 9, 1936, in Rockwall and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1971.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and she was of the Christian Church faith. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are a son, James Hurst Thompson of Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Ginny Thompson-Bond of New York City; a sister, Mary Evelyn Faison of Lubbock and two grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, a brother, Darrell Hurst, and a granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Thompson.

Memorials may be made to the local cancer society.

Tapp Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Burns

QUINLAN - Robert "E" Lee Burns of Quinlan died Tuesday. There will be a graveside service today at 3 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan.

He was born in Kansas City, Kan. on Nov. 19, 1928. Burns served in the U.S. Marines.

He is survived by a sister, Anna Holloway.

Morris Hartline Sr.

McKINNEY - Morris H. Hartline Sr., 90, of Campbell died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Joe Arnold officiating. Burial is at 4 p.m. at Brigham Cemetery in Campbell.

Born Nov. 23, 1907 in Hollis, Okla., he was the son of Moses Newton Hartline and Betty Poteet Hartline. He and Cora Lou Strickland were married Feb. 4, 1928 in McKinney. He was a farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Campbell.

Surviving are his wife of Commerce; three sons and daughters-in-law, Horris and Winell Hartline Jr. of Sachse, Richard and Ada Hartline of Greenville and P.E. and Melba Hartline of Cumby; two brothers, Aubrey Hartline of Aquilla and Oscar Hartline of Farmersville; four sisters, Erma Kyle of Allen, Mozelle Taylor of Wylie, Hattie Stewart of Garland and Minnie Hooper of Allen; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jess Hartline, Dewey Hartline and Pete Hartline.

Wilma Taylor

COMMERCE- Wilma Ruth White Taylor, 69, of Commerce died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. today at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce with Rev. Blake Dunnagan officiating.

She was born Jan. 31, 1929 in Paris, daughter of Edwin White and Alma Dunnagan White. She married Harold S. Taylor on June 13, 1948 in Paris. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Michele Taylor of Commerce and Patrick and Jana Taylor of Fairfield and three grandchildren, Bethany, Allison and Amy Taylor, all of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 17, 1995 and a brother, Edwin White Jr. on Dec. 25, 1956.

Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home of Commerce is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Woods

ROYSE CITY - Funeral services for Jerry Ray Woods of Royse City will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Kenneth Edney and Rev. Mike Smalley officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

He was born in Checotah, Okla. on May 3, 1946, son of George Ray and Mildred Lucille Nichols Woods. On Aug. 22, 1966 he was married to Marilyn Ann Blue. He served in the U.S. Army. He was owner of the Woods Home Improvement Co. Woods was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife of Royse City; three sons, Archie Ray Woods of Rowlett and Aaron Michael Woods and Ian Wayne Woods, both of Royse City; his mother of Garland; a sister, Jeanetta Sharber of Poetry; a brother, Tommy Woods of Garland and four grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Royse City Chapel.

Thelma Claybourn

IRVING - Thelma Ruth Claybourn, 69, of Irving died Tuesday in an Irving hospital. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home. Burialis in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

She was born April 2, 1929 in Victoria; the daughter of William Darrell and Thelma Greenlees Maples. She and Billy James Claybourn were married Sept. 25, 1954. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; son, David Claybourn of Greenville; daughters Susan Craig of Arlington, Cynthia Walker of Brock and Melanie Hanna of Fort Worth and grandchildren Emily and Jared Walker, Laura and Stephen Craig and Thyra Hanna.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jessie Bryant

CUMBY - Mrs. Jessie Bryant, 93, of Greenville, died Tuesday at her residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Prairie Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Nihl Bulkley II officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Valley Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 10, 1904 in Hunt County to Robert and Lou Hatchett Fox. She married Arlie G. Bryant on March 4, 1923 in Hunt County. She was a homemaker and a member of Prairie Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Margie Bulkley of Longview and Barbara Kluttz of Greenville; two sons, Leo Bryant of Greenville and Arlie Wayne Bryant of Cumby; a sister, Mae McDowell of Kemp; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1973; three daughters, Pauline Bryant, Geraldine Dooley and Nora Lou Moore; a son, Jim Bryant; two brothers, Robert and Thomas Fox; four sisters, Mary Bryant, Lurene Prince, Willie Morris and Estelle Walker; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Valley Cemetery Association.

Berniece Lindley

COMMERCE - Berniece Lindley, 95, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Cumby, died Tuesday at Carriage House in Sulphur Springs. There is a graveside service at 11 a.m. today at Cumby Cemetery in Cumby with David Gibson officiating.

Born in Hunt County on May 4, 1903 she was the daughter of Will Longshore and Mary Jane Ogletree Longshore.

Survivors include a daughter, Glenna Price of Sulphur Springs; a sister, Lorriene Warren of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Lindley on April 1, 1992; a daughter, Billie Jo Ireland in 1977 and a granddaughter, Patricia Price.

Pauline Sparkman

QUINLAN - Pauline Ruby Sparkman, 90, of Wills Point died Tuesday at Crestwood Nursing Home of Wills Point. There is a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas with Rev. Ben Smith officiating.

The daughter of Chester and Ethel Stapp Hollingsworth, she was born in Springfield, Mo. on July 21, 1907. She married O.D. Sparkman and she was a housewife. She was a member of Eastern Star in Dallas.

Surviving are a son, David Sparkman of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Norma Crabb of Mesa, Ariz. and Linda Sides of Dallas; a sister, Gertrude Randolph of North Idaho; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.

Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home.

George Wortham

SAFFORD, Ariz. - George Lindsey "King Fish" Wortham, 89, formerly of Greenville, died May 6 at his home in Safford. Funeral services were Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Safford.

Mr. Wortham was born Aug. 3, 1908; the son of George and Rhode Wortham. He married Dimple Ponder in 1955.

Surviving are his wife of Safford; sons, Willie Johnson of Greenville and Darrell Wortham of Tempe; daughters, Delilah Dixon of Phoenix, Ariz. and Linzetta Harkless of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatirce Lawrence; brother, Kevin Wortham; and a son, Earl Hendreix.

Tommie Allen

WYLIE - Tommie R. Smith Allen, 82, died Sunday at Baylor Medical Center of Garland. Services are at 10 a.m. today at the Sachse Church of Christ with Willis Dykes and Terry Hightower officiating. Burial will be in the Wylie Cemetery.

She was born July 10, 1915 in Wylie to Tom B. Smith and Ollie Corzine Smith. She married Hubert Allen on Dec. 23, 1939 in Wylie. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sachse Church of Christ in Sachse.

Survivors include her husband of Wylie; a daughter, Mrs. Judy Allen of Garland; a sister, Mrs. Bettye Sue Taylor of Wylie; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lois Spainhour of Greenville; a brother-in-law, C.W. Spainhour of Greenville and a granddaughter.

Bernie Lindley

COMMERCE - Bernie Lindley, 95, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Cumby, died Tuesday at Carriage House in Sulphur Springs. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cumby Cemetery in Cumby with David Gibson officiating.

Jimmy Payne

LONE OAK - Jimmy Wayne Payne, 41, of Lone Oak died Saturday following a motorcycle accident. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lone Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Cook and Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial was in Prairie Valley Cemetery.

Son of Howard D. Payne and Georgia Bell Hooker, he was born on May 25, 1956 in Greenville. He married Pamela Jane Moore on April 17, 1981 in Lone Oak.

Payne was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Payne's Body Shop in Lone Oak for the past 16 years.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Jerry Dwayne Payne; a daughter, April Nicole Payne; his mother, all of Lone Oak; a brother and sister-in-law, John H. and Susan Payne; a niece, Michelle Payne of Greenville; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Betty Jo Moore of Lone Oak; and a brother-in-law, Mark Moore of Edgewood.

His father preceded him in death on June 5, 1971.

Pallbearers were Otis Payne, Gary Dooley, Herb Smith, R.J. Smith, Troy Acker and Jim Coker. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Apostles Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center of Lone Oak Baptist Church.

Gathan Presswood

Gathan A. Presswood, 85, of Greenville died Friday at his home. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday at the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were Monday afternoon in Bogata Cemetery in Bogata.

He was born March 13, 1913 in Red River County; the son of Myles Frank and Ellen Crow Presswood. He married Oleta Oliver on Feb. 8, 1935, in Clarksville, Texas.

He was retired from the Dallas Morning News. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Dudley Hayes and Barbara and Johnny Evans, all of Greenville; sisters, Swan Cunliffe of Medford, Ore., Katy Lytton of San Diego, Calif. and Irene Hall of Bassett, Calif.; brother, Dewey Presswood of New Caney; grandchildren Vickie Miller of Point, Debbie Henry of Grand Prairie, Kathie Cook of Garland, Sandra Sampler of Portland; and Laura Ainsworth and John Evans Jr, both of Greenville; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Ever Parnell and Myrtle Burnett; and brothers Garvin, Johnny and Harry Presswood.

Pallbearers were Glenn Welch, Jim Finney, Richard Carter, Sam Carty, Lester Stuart and Dave French.

Harry Smiley

Harry "Rabbit" Smiley, 94, of Greenville died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. today at Hall Cemetery with Rev. Robert Cook officiating.

Mr. Smiley was born Sept. 13, 1903, in Weiland to Luther and Barbara Smith Smiley. He was a military veteran who served in World War II. A former Lone Oak and Miller Grove resident, he was a farmer and a Baptist.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Nita Smiley of Greenville; daughter, Betty Harris of Greenville; brother, Floyd Smiley of East Tawakoni; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Robin L. Adair

Robin L. Adair of Dallas died Monday at Bonham V.A. Hospital. Graveside services are at Donelton Cemetery at 4 p.m. today with Rev. Sam Gonzales officiating.

He was born Nov. 12, 1920 in Lone Oak to Stephen Adair and Ector Wallace. He married Ella Mae Thompson in Dallas in 1950. Adair served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired welder with Lone Star Construction Co. He was a Methodist.

He is survived by a sister, Jean DeBord of Greenville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 2, 1997 and a son, Stephen L. Adair in 1992.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Collins

Bonnie Jean Collins of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Marcel Collins officiating. Burial will be in Grundy Memorial Park.

Born in Celeste on May 10, 1945, she was the daughter of John and Alnetta Fannin Jones. She married Wendell Johnson in Greenville in 1963. She later married Mina Collins in 1968 in Greenville. She worked as a nurse's aide and was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Wendell Jones of Greenville; two daughters, Leatrice Hoskins and Bridgette Hall, both of Greenville; a brother, John Jones of Greenville; four sisters, Billie Hall, Helen Steward and Annie Williams, all of Greenville and Ethel Thomas of Napoleonville, La. and five grandchildren.

Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Williams, Preston Hawkins, David Hawkins, Robert Anderson, James Gipson and Roy Lee Williams.

Jerry Garrett

EMORY - Jerry Garrett, 56, of Saint Jo died Sunday at his home. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Slater officiating. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery.

Son of Aubrey Garrett and Gladys Scott Garrett, he was born Jan. 2, 1942 in Alba. He married Shirley Sikes Garrett in Arlington on March 23, 1967. Garrett served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a banker, retiring from Ft. Worth National Bank after 17 years. He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of St. Jo; his father and stepmother, Opal Garrett, of Emory; his mother of Emory; sons David Russell Garrett of Seagoville and Alan Sikes Garrett of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Geneva Elizabeth Garrett of Athens; a sister, Barbara Moon of Miller Grove and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Norwin Lennon, Frank Spears, Stan Royal, Joe Moon, Paul Hill and Harold Dighton.
