Mildred Halbert

KILGORE - Graveside services for Mildred Halbert, 87, of Kilgore are at 3 p.m. today at the Merit Cemetery in Farmersville with Rev. Jeff Fisher officiating. She died Monday in Longview.

She was born April 2, 1911 in Lovington, N.M. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She was a longtime resident of Merit before moving to Kilgore.

Survivors include two stepsons, E.W. Halbert Jr. of Kilgore and Bill G. Halbert of New Braunfels; a sister, Mae Whittenberg of Lovington, N.M.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Kohn

Mrs. Ollie Recie Kohn, 90, of Greenville died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Central Assembly of God Church with Rev. Larry Allgood and Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.

Born in Hunt County on Jan. 6, 1908, she was the daughter of Samuel A. Smith and Frances Swain Smith. She and John Edward Kohn were married Nov. 10, 1926 in Royse City. Mrs. Kohn was a charter member of Central Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by three sons, W.D. Kohn of Caddo Mills, Andy Kohn of Brownwood and Charles Kohn of Springtown; a daughter, Reitha Breedlove of Irving; a brother, George B. Smith of Garland; a sister, Trudie Tate of Greenville; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 1975 and a daughter, Patricia Johnson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Kohn, Greg Kohn, Devan Breedlove, Mark Breedlove, David Kohn and Jeff Johnson.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Payne

LONE OAK - Jimmy Wayne Payne, 41, of Lone Oak died Saturday following a motorcycle accident. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at the Lone Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Cook and Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Valley Cemetery.

Son of Howard D. Payne and Georgia Bell Hooker, he was born on May 25, 1956 in Greenville. He married Pamela Jane Moore on April 17, 1981 in Lone Oak.

Payne was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Payne's Body Shop Oak in Lone for the past 16 years.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Jerry Dwayne Payne; a daughter, April Nicole Payne; his mother, all of Lone Oak; a brother and sister-in-law, John H. and Susan Payne; a niece, Michelle Payne of Greenville; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Betty Jo Moore of Lone Oak; and a brother-in-law, Mark Moore of Edgewood.

His father preceded him in death on June 5, 1971.

Pallbearers will be Otis Payne, Gary Dooley, Herb Smith, R.J. Smith, Troy Acker and Jim Coker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Apostles Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center of Lone Oak Baptist Church.

Mary Wood

DALLAS - Mary K. Cassie Wood died Sunday at her home in West Tawakoni. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Restland Wildwood Chapel with Rev. Ken Smith and Rev. Jim Adams officiating. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.

She was born Nov. 10, 1927 in Dallas to Hubert and Oressa Loys Chaffin.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Gilbert G. Wood of West Tawakoni; a son, Roland B. Carroll; daughters, Mary Ellis and Beverly Cimino; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, John P. Chaffin of West Tawakoni and a niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Shobe.

Visitation is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. today at Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.

George Anderson

George Webster Anderson, 71, of Lone Oak died Saturday at his residence. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memoryland Memorial Park with Rev. Kirk Jones officiating.

The son of George Anderson and Geraldine Bennett Anderson , he was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Dallas. He married Jean M. Overman on June 8, 1948.

Mr. Anderson served in the Marine Corps. He was a retired maunfacturing engineer at Texas Instruments. He was a Baptist

Surviving are his wife of Lone Oak; son, Jimmy Wayne Anderson of Lone Oak; sister, Ester McConoghy of Round Rock, mother-in-law Bertie Lee Overman of Lone Oak; and step-grandchildren, James Meeks of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and Luke Spence and Eugenia Roberts, both of Lone Oak.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Edd Norris

P.E. "Edd" Norris, 74, of Greenville died Friday at his home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Dixon Baptist Church with Dr. Kelly Carr and Rev. Jimmy Vaughn officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

The son of O. Frank Norris and Minnie Wright Norris, he was born in Hunt County on July 13, 1924. He married Ellen Virginia Ragsdale on June 20, 1948.

Mr. Norris served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for the Fuller Brush Company for 28 years and was a truckdriver and a member of Teamsters Local Number 745.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville, sons, Mark Norris of Kennedale and Otha Norris of Richardson; brothers , Justin Norris, Gerald Norris, Dale Norris, Paul Norris, all of Greenville, and B.R. Norris of Mesquite, sisters, Betty Woodall of Greenville and Frankie Kirk of Dallas and grandchildren, Jennifer Norris, Nicole Norris, Otha Norris and Jessica Norris.

He was preceded in death by his father, O. Frank Norris in 1951, his mother, Minnie Wright Norris, in 1969, mother-in-law, Eunice Ragsdale in 1995, and father-in-law W.R. Ragsdale in 1961.

Pallbearers are Johnny Norris, Billy Norris, Paul Eugene Norris, Jeff Norris, Paul Norris Jr.., David Hanson, Lee Ragsdale, Scott Ragsdale, Bryan Ragsdale, and Neil Ragsdale.

Peters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Perkins

COMMERCE - Elizabeth Key Perkins, 41 of Commerce died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ with David Gibson officiating.

Mrs. Perkins was born Jan. 9, 1957, in Greenville. She was married to Michael Perkins on Feb. 10, 1982, in Commerce. She was a student at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Surviving are her husband of Commerce, parents, William and Lillie Rackley of Commerce; mother, Juanita Beth WIlliams; sisters, Donna Lunsford and Carla Richardson, both of Commerce; brothers Sammy Rackley of Commerce, Donald Teague of Hallsville and Pat Curtis of Cooper; grandmother, Christine Shaw of Commerce; father-in-law, Melvin Perkins of Commerce; sister-in-law, Darlene Evans of Commerce; nephew, Jay Vann of Commerce; special friends, Fay and Junior Steen of Greenville and Diane, Christine, John and Ina Cowfer of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, William S. and Claudie Rackley, L.D. and Judy Wilburn and mother-in-law Francis Perkins.

A memorial fund has been established at Alliance Bank in Commerce.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Walker and Son Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Gathan Presswood

Gathan A. Presswood, 85, of Greenville died Friday at his home . Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Monday at the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services are at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Bogata Cemetery in Bogata.

He was born March 13, 1913 in Red River County; the son of Myles Frank and Ellen Crow Presswood. He married Oleat Oliver on Feb. 8, 1935, in Clarksville, Texas.

He was retired from the Dallas Morning News. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Dudley Hayes and Barbara and Johnny Evans, all of Greenville; sisters, Swan Cunliffe of Medford, Ore., Katy Lytton of San Diego, Calif. and Irene Hall of Bassett, Calif.; brother, Dewey Cunliffe of New Caney; grandchildren Vickie Miller of Point, Debbie Henry of Grand Prairie, Kathie Cook of Garland, Sandra Sampler of Portland; and Laura Ainsworth and John Evans Jr, both of Greenville; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Ever Parnell and Myrtle Burnett; and brothers Garvin, Johnny and Harry Presswood.

Pallbearers are Glenn Welch, Jim Finney, Richard Carter, Sam Carter, Lester Stuart and Dave French.

Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Allen

Funeral services for James R. "Bunny" Allen of Greenville are at 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Roy Price officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

He died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born Aug. 6, 1943 in Ben Franklin to Clemon and Nettie Sweat Allen. He and Leevon "Pumpkin" Harrison were married in 1985 in Cooper. He was in the Army Reserve. Allen was an employee of Raytheon Systems, Inc. and he was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; three sons, Keenan Allen of Commerce, James R. Allen Jr. of Greenville and Bandon S. Allen of Neylandville; a daughter, Deborah Hayward of Mesquite; two brothers, Willie Lee Allen of Washington; Clemon "Fat Man" Allen of Greenville; two sisters, Mary Ekpenyong of Greenville and Virginia J. Conley of Pomona, Calif. and six grandchildren.

Members of the 47th Infantry Army Reserve of Terrell will serve as pallbearers.

Gladys Fitzgerald

WOLFE CITY - Gladys Fitzgerald, 80, of Oak Point died Thursday in Pilot Point. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. today at Tidwell Cemetery.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was born Aug. 12, 1917, in the White Rock community to Robert and Rachel Bench Tidwell. She was married on Oct. 29, 1979, to Gordon Fitzgerald in Dallas. She was a retired seamstress and a Baptist.

Surviving are a son, Ricky Adams of Oak Point; two daughters, Vicky Eubanks of Dike and Patricia Moon of Celeste; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Cecil Tidwell of Celeste and Luther Tidwell of Edwards, Miss.; and one sister, Irene Sharp of Mesa, Ariz.

Owens and Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Green

TYLER - Funeral services for Charles Ray Green of Tyler are at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, Highway 64 West, Tyler. He died Thursday at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 14, 1938, son of Raymond Green and Irene Nixon. He married Lynn Morrow on Oct. 11, 1955 in Madill, Okla.

Survivors include his father of Dallas; his wife of Tyler; a daughter, Lisa McFarland of Tyler; two brothers, Lloyd Aiken of Greenville and Carlos Green of Dallas; sisters Janet Aiken and Doris Stephens, both of Greenville and Pat Baker, Gail Nelson and Sheila Green, all of Dallas; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Nixon-Aiken; his stepfather, Jack K. Aiken and a grandson, Nathan Roddy.

Mark Groves

EMORY - Mark Groves, 80, of Emory died Thursday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Daugherty Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Wolfe officiating. Burial is in Daugherty Cemetery.

The son of Edd and Etter Smith Groves, he was born in Hopkins County. He married Valeria Scott Groves in Rains County on July 4, 1942. He served with the military police, anti-aircraft and U.S. Army.

Groves was a machinist, retiring from Rockwell Inc. after 29 years. He was a member of Daugherty Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of Emory; sons Mark Scott Groves of Emory, Michael Lynn Groves of Canyon Lake, Melton Robbin Groves of Emory and Malcolm Tim Groves of Emory; a daughter, Marsha Short of Emory; a brother, Bill Groves of Plano, a sister, Ida Brown of Bridgeport; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jenifer and Kerrie Short, Markus and Robbie Groves, Gary M. Bishop and Billy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be James Ratliff, Clifton Dennie and John Blanton.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetic Association.

Lois Hineman

COMMERCE - A memorial service for Lois Hineman, 88, of Commerce is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.today at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike House will officiate. She died Wednesday in a Longview hospital.

Mrs. Hineman was born Aug. 10, 1909, in Commerce, the daughter of Arvin Dunlap Abernathy and Bertha Williams Abernathy. Mrs. Hineman attended Commerce public schools and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College training school, receiving her bachelors degree in English in 1946 and her masters degree in 1949.

She taught English and journalism in Nacogdoches, Longview, Denton and Commerce school systems. She also taught English and supervised student teachers throughout Northeast Texas at East Texas State University until her retirement in 1974.

Mrs. Hineman was a member of the Northeast Texas Retired Teachers Association, Woman's Culture Club and the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Candace Hineman of Round Rock and Bruce and Jane Hineman of Austin; one sister, Marie Hurst of Longview; one grandson and wife, John and Kimberly Hineman; one granddaughter, Jennifer Hineman; one great-grandson, Zachary Hineman; and one nephew, William Hurst.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.

Heather Lester

LONE OAK - Heather Nicole Lester, 11, of Lone Oak died Thursday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today in the Donelton Baptist Church with Mark Slaughter officiating. Burial will be in the Donelton Cemetery.

She was born March 20, 1987 in Sulphur Springs. She lived in Lone Oak all of her life.

She is survived by her parents, Jerald and Heather Lester of Sulphur Springs; grandmothers Shirley Lester Quisenberry of Lone Oak and Margaret Dooley of Greenville; great-grandmother Rena LaFleur of Wolfe City; aunt, Daisy Wade of Greenville; uncles Chris Lester of Greenville and Lance Lester of Lone Oak and eight cousins. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Wayne Lester.

Pallbearers are Stephen Schones, Chris Lester, Lance Lester and Robert Darden.

George Thate

George P. Thate of Lone Oak died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a graveside service at 1 p.m. Sunday at Santa Anna Cemetery in Santa Anna.

He was born Aug. 7, 1931 in Burkett, son of George B. Thate and Jessie Lee Ashley Thate. He was a gauger for Permear Oil Company and a Baptist.

Survivors include sons Jerry Earle of Elk City, Okla., Steven Thate of West Tawakoni, Stacey Thate of Red Oak and stepson Norman Samples of Monahans; daughters Tresa Pendleton of Lone Oak and Reba Bohon of West Point, Miss.; stepdaughters Cathy Alford of Weatherford, Diane Myers of Abilene, Lucy Gauchier of New Orleans, La. and Glenda Crocker of Monahans; two brothers, Hughlynn Thate of Santa Anna and Robert Thate of Coleman; sisters Melba Salmon of Brownwood, Doris Burk of Levelland, Ruby McFarland of Coleman and Alma Jane Laird of De Soto; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sherril Wayne Thate and Kenneth Thate.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home.

James Allen

Funeral services for James R. "Bunny"Allen of Greenville are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Roy Price officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

He died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

Gary Bray

COMMERCE -Gary Gilbert Bray, 52, of Dallas died Thursday at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. There is a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. There is a private burial at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

He was born April 8, 1946 in Dallas to Fuller C. Bray and Jeanne Bray. He attended public schools in Highland Park, graduated from Hillcrest High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. His MBA degree was completed at Texas A&M University -Commerce. Employers included Nissan Corporation, Dallas County Community College System, Briggs-Weaver and Texas Instruments.

In the 1960s, he was rhythm guitarist for The Outcasts rock group who recorded for the Dot label.

He is survived by Laura, Ellen and Nancy Bray of Dallas; his mother of Austin and a brother, Robert Bray of Longview.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Pemberton Funeral Home of Commerce is in charge of local arrangements.

Eloise Byrd

Eloise Byrd of Grand Prairie, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday at Oakwood Health Center in Arlington. There is a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Mount Cemetery with Rev. Joel Arnold officiating.

She was born Sept. 9, 1917 in Minden, La. to Lewis C. Prothro and Eloise Waltman. She and Gordon Wallace Byrd Sr. were married June 6, 1943 in Heflin, La. She was a member of Salem-Kinser United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Myra Byrd of Grand Prairie; grandchildren Lori Wardrup of Fort Worth, Robert Byrd of Overton, Specialist Jason Byrd of Fort Carson, Colo. and Jennifer Byrd of Grand Prairie and great-grandson Andrew Wardrup of Fort Worth.

Her husband and a son, Gordon Wallace Byrd Jr. preceded her in death.

Pallbearers are Joel Arnold, Paul Arnold, Benton Brumit Jr., Benton Brumit Sr., Doug Morrison and James Wall.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
