Mamie Burdette

GADSDEN, Ala. - Mamie L. Burdette, 75, of Gadsden died Sunday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Norman Flynn officiating. Burial is in Rainbow Memorial Park.

Mrs. Burdette was a resident of Gadsden for 15 years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda Brooks and Susan Fleming, both of Huntsville, Ala. and Gail Guajardo of Texas; sons, Richard Burdette of Texas, Gene Burdette of Huntsville and Jim Burdette of Gadsden; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, James Hoskins of Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burdette.

Pallbearers are Johnny Fleming, Johnn y Fuqua, Richard Copeland, Jason Hoskins, Don Hoskins and Kenny Phillips. Honorary pallbearers include grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Big Oak Ranch, in care of John Croyle, 5265 Jake Mintz Road, Southside, Ala. 35907.

John Gable

John Deward Gable, 71, of Campbell died Saturday at Birchwood Manor in Cooper. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tarrant officiating. Burial is in Brigham Cemetery.

Mr. Gable was born July 5, 1927, in Oxmore, Ala. He married Kathryn Morris on April 12, 1946, in Bessemer, Ala. He was a truck driver for Safeway and a U.S. Navy veteran; having served in World War II. He was a member the Masonic Lodge and was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of Campbell; daughters, Brenda Willaby of Campbell and Deborah Harp of Greenville; sister, Lorraine Stanford of Pleasant Grove, Ala.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Delvard Gable and a brother, James Gable.

Pallbearers are John Rayshell, Chad Corneilson, Robert Krodle, Steve Harp, Tony Willaby and Charles Cason.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pete Garrett

QUINLAN Pete Garrett, 83, of West Tawakoni died Sunday at Park Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Father William Richard officiating. Burial is in McBride Cemetery.

Mr. Garrett was born June 28, 1915, in Kaufman County; the son of Webster and Cora Howard Garrett. He married Ida Ethel Sisk on Nov. 10, 1936. He was a retired road maintenance worker and farmer. He was the McBride Cemetery caretaker for several years.

Surviving are a son, David Garrett of Rowlett; daughters, Bettye Simmons of Quinlan and Judith Allen of Carrollton; step-daughter, Dorothy Robinson of Lone Oak; brother, John Garrett of Odessa; sister, Beatrice Robinson of Lone Oak; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985, one brother, four sisters and one great-grandson.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Naomi Ouida Porter

FARMERSVILLE - Mrs. Naomi Ouida Porter, 80, of Farmersville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmersville.

Born March 20, 1918 in Gober, she was the daughter of Will and Esper Woodson Smith. She married James Leon Porter on May 2, 1940 in Paris. She was a retired store manager and worked for Porter Auto. She was a Baptist and was a member of the Farmersville Historical Society.

Surviving are her husband of Farmersville; daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Kenneth Altfather of Fort Worth and a brother, Tawrence A. Smith of Dallas.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mable Irene Hudson

Mable Irene Hudson, 88, of Greenville, died at her residence Saturday. Graveside services will be held at Shady Grove Cemetery on August 3 at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Davis and Rev. Marvin McDaniel officiating. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Aug. 24, 1909 in Marshall, Texas to O.C. and Effie Marshall. She was a homemaker and member of the Penile Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are sons Thomas Raye Hudson, Loyd Dale Hudson, and Alvin Wayne Hudson, of Greenville; and daughters Wanda Hansford of Greenville, and Mary Evon Coyle, of Celeste.

Pallbearers are Gerald Coyle, Ronnie Coyle, Kenneth Wayne Samples, Jesse Coyle, Billy Joe Coyle, and Bobby Francis.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Bertha E. Knight

@Normal: Bertha E. Knight, 86, of Greenville, died Saturday at Greenville Health and Rehabilitation. No funeral services, but arrangements are being handled by Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 29, 1911 in Noel, Missouri, and married James Knight in Alaska in 1970. She was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include her husband, of Greenville, and five children.

Rosalie A. Forbes

A memorial service for Rosalie A. Forbes, 59, of Quinlan, is at 10 a.m. Monday in the Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Price officiating. There will be a private burial in Memoryland Memorial Park.

She died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

She was born to Sam and Mary Aikens in Casper, Wyoming on Feb. 9, 1939. She married Jerry Forbes in Rockwall in 1984. She was a Methodist and a secretary for the Greenville Independent School District.

Surviving are her husband, of Quinlan; mother, of Arizona; and sons Greg Henning of West Columbia, Texas; Bill Henning, of Mesquite; and Darryl Henning, of Houston.

Memorials may be made to Tawakoni Public Library.

Peggy M. Addington

FARMERSVILLE - Funeral services for Peggy M. Addington, 59, of Garland, are at 2 p.m. on Monday in the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Rick Riddle officiating. Burial is in Thompson Cemetery in Copeville.

She died Friday at Baylor Hospital of Garland.

She was born in Farmersville on Oct. 27, 1938 to Thadeus and Nellie Wood Seay. She married Walter Addington in Oklahoma on Sept. 2, 1955. She was a nurse and a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving are husband, of Garland; mother, of Mineola; daughters Beatrice Baker, of Mesquite, and Nancy Kay Hooten, of Garland; sons Jimmy Don Addington and Walter Ray Addington, of Garland; sisters Dixie M. Seay, Joan McBride, and Wanda Hass, of Alba, and Joyce Armstrong, of Savoy; and brother Jackie M. Seay, of Alba.

Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home.

William Baumgardner

William B. "Pealy" Baumgardner of Cash died Friday at Columbia Hospital of Terrell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Diggs officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Son of James H. and Birdie James Baumgardner, he was born March 11, 1916. He married Agnes Sullivan on March 19, 1941 in Hugo, Okla. He was a building contractor in Texas and Arkansas. Mr. Baumgardner was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Sheryl Baumgardner of Cash; two brothers, Sterling Baumgardner of Reidsville, N.C. and Jake Baumgardner of Hot Springs, Ark. and a sister, Pollye Sinclear of Roseville, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 14, 1997 and two brothers, Marvin Baumgardner and Gene Baumgardner.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Baumgardner, Thurman Helton, Ken Newby, Wyman Johnson, Elmer Yates and Clarence Doolin.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Raymond Williams

COMMERCE - Raymond Watson Williams, 88, of Commerce died Thursday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church in Commerce with Rev. Mike House officiating. There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

He was born May 29, 1910 in Dallas, son of John K. Williams and Margaret Hargrove. He and Dorothy Christine McDonald were married Dec. 24, 1937 in Vickery.

Williams graduated from Vickery High School. He worked for Lockheed at Dallas Love Field during World War II. He became a district manager for Chevrolet Motor Division in Dallas in 1946. In 1950 he moved to Commerce to work for Huffines Chevrolet. He became a partner in that dealership in 1961 and purchased the dealership in 1979.

He was a member of the Commerce Masonic Lodge No. 439 A.F. & A.M., the Lions Club and the Founders Circle of Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of Commerce; a son, Winston Williams of Lewisville; daughter and son-in-law Wynelle and Richie Moore of Waco; son and daughter-in-law Wyman and Harriet Williams of Commerce; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Mike King, Jim Kizer, Lewis Jackson, Robert Cozart Sr., David Kerbow and Jim Bob Latham.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Pemberton Funeral Home in Commerce.

Vicky Burnett

Vicky D. Burnett, 42, of Greenville died Sunday. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Bobby Crosby and Rev. Houston McLendon officiating. Burial is in East Mount Cemetery.

Born in Greenville on April 18, 1956, he was the son of William and Dorothy Burnett. Disabled, he was retired from the electric company. Mr. Burnett was a member of Carter Temple CME Church.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Burnett of Greenville; his parents of Greenville; a son Sheldric Burnett of Greenville; two daughters, Marsha Hall and Machelle Romirez of Dallas; brothers Dennis Burnett of Inglewood, Calif., Billy Henry of Tyler, Otha Anderson of Greenville and Dwayne Reed of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters Sherry Ward and Ava Matthews, both of Greenville and Stella Sparks of Dallas; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Kevin Hale, Clifton Cleveland, Reggie Washington, Connell Blakley, Stevie Washington and Keenan Holt.

Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Grundy Funeral Home.

Lillie Medlin

WOLFE CITY - Lillie Jane Webb Medlin, 89, of Greenville, died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville after a lengthy illness. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City with Rev. Kevin Mitchell officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 27, 1909 in Hunt County to George Franklin and Martha Alice Davis Webb. She was a retired beautician and LVN and was a member of First Baptist Church in Wolfe City.

Surviving are six nieces, Pauline Smith, Iva Webster, Lola Barrett, Geraldine Outlaw, Carolyn Manning and Dorothy Moore and two nephews, Bill Wood and Billy Webb.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eunice Brigham

QUINLAN - Eunice Brigham, 71, of Quinlan died at her residence Sunday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mack Costlow officiating. Burial is in Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

The daughter of Elton and Irene Timmermiemier Brigham, she was born April 23, 1927 in Stuttgart, Ark. She was a housewife.

Surviving are her husband, Bud Brigham of Wills Point; two daughters, Patsy Wheeler of Dallas and Helen Miller of Quinlan; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Franklin Harrison, on Aug. 26, 1993.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alvin Combest

QUINLAN - Funeral services for Alvin "Speedy" Combest, 93, of Greenville aree at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Battle Axe with Verner Ulrich officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Cemetery in Greenville.

He died Sunday in Greenville.

Born in Hunt County on March 30, 1905, he was the son of Brown and Elizabeth Hines Combest. He and Irene Combs were married Nov. 17, 1951 in Greenville.

Mr. Combest was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Maxine Cathey of Greenville; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons are pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home in Quinlan.

Ellen Doonan

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. - Ellen Vivian Doonan, 80, of Port Orchard, Wash., formerly of Greenville, died Sept. 18 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. There was a memorial service on Sept. 21 at Port Orchard Methodist Church. Steve Tarr officiated.

The daughter of Cora and Frank Asher, she was born Aug. 14, 1918 in Great Bend, Kan. She was raised in Kansas and lived in the Greenville area for 30 years before moving to Washington.

Mrs. Doonan was a homemaker and a member of the Port Orchard Methodist Church and the Port Orchard UMW. She volunteered her services to dress dolls for needy children through the local Helpline agency.

Surviving are her ex-husband Bob Doonan of Quinlan; two sons, Eldon Doonan of Port Orchard, Wash. and Don Doonan of Farmersville; two daughters, Vivian Jensen of Port Orchard, Wash. and Lois Joy of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Carlos Asher of Michigan and Lloyd Asher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Mildred Tourneaur, Doris Miller and Ruby Phillips of Great Bend, Kan. and Ester Moeller of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Port Orchard Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

John Lumpkins Sr.

EMORY- John H. Lumpkins Sr., 79, of Emory died at his home Monday. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. Loyd McKinney and Rev. Jimmy Jarrett officiating. Burial is in Pilgrim Rest No. 1 Cemetery.

Born in Lexington, Okla. on Jan. 22, 1919, he was the son of John Thomas Lumpkin and Thelma Ethel Odom Lumpkin. He married LaRue Martin on Feb. 25, 1951 in Slaton. He was a retired farmer and he was a Baptist.

Mr. Lumpkins did custom farming, owned greenhouses and maintained a booth at Dallas Farmers Market in Dallas for many years.

He is survived by two sons, John Lumpkins Jr. and Charles Lumpkins, both of Emory; two daughters, Martha Williams of Point and Annette Caves of Emory; a sister of Margie Stevens of Mount Pleasant and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on July 29, 1977.

Nephews and friends are pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Burns, Tommy Cooke and Mike Davis.

Visitation is today and Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bennie Joe Murrey

Bennie Joe Murrey, 53, of Lone Oak died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Rolen and Rev. Joel Bench officiating. Burial is in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Mr. Murrey was born in Kaufman on April 25, 1945 to Ben W. Murrey and Mary Creecy Murrey. He and Dottie Hougham were married Aug. 19, 1967 in Grand Prairie.

Mr. Murrey served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He was a grounds maintenance supervisor at Fair Park for the City of Dallas. He was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Lone Oak; his mother of Grand Prairie; two sons, Brett Murrey of Merit and Scott Murrey of Lone Oak; two daughters, Tiffany Webb of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Allison Murrey of Lone Oak; a brother, Willard R. Murrey of Spearman; two sisters, Mary Lou Hancock of Grand Prairie and Josie Daniels of Larson and one grandchild.

His father preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Doug Murrey, Jordan Hougham, Fred Byerly, Steve Baltz, Terry Kinsworthy and Jerry Wimpee. Honorary pallbearers are grounds operations crewmembers.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Freddie Boyce

EMORY- Freddie Boyce, 49, of Emory died Thursday in the Veterans Administration hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial is in Prairie Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Boyce was born Jan. 27, 1949, in Emory; the son of Lauston and Exie Brisco Boyce. He married Violet Miles on Aug. 26, 1971, in Emory.

He was U.S. Army veteran, who served in Vietnam. He was a construction worker and a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Dallas.

Surviving are daughters, Dawn Boyce and Rosalind Boyce, both of Dallas; brother, Travis Boyce of Emory; sisters, Wilma Lane, Barbara Smith and Deloris Garrett, all of Emory; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Pallbearers are Johnica Pryor, Terry Mosley, Lee Hobbs, Rodrein Garrett, Lauston Garrett, Rickey Benton, Willie Miles, Robert Robinson and Melroy Anderson.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville is in charge of the arrangements.
