David Dougherty

EMORY - David Paul Dougherty, 46, of San Antonio died Friday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory with Steve Smith officiating. Burial is in Dougherty Cemetery.

Born in Dallas on Feb. 6, 1952, he was the son of Leo Radford and Mary Beatrice Pennebaker Dougherty. He married Sara Harrison in 1985 in San Antonio. He grew up in San Antonio and graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio with a bachelor's degree in music and earned his master's degree in theology in 1996.

He was a book dealer for many years in San Antonio.

Surviving are his wife of Creeley, Colo.; his mother of Sulphur Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Michael Miesse of Sulphur Springs; and two aunts.

His father preceded him in death in 1989.

Pallbearers will be Nils Blanton, Gary Blanton, Kenny Armstrong, Chris Miesse, Gordan Miesse and Mick Miesse.

Bill Fleming

WAXAHACHIE- W.W. "Bill" Fleming, 79, of Waxahachie, formerly of Hunt County, died Saturday. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie with Jim Olney and John Dowd officiating. Burial is at 3 p.m. in Brigham Cemetery in Campbell.

The son of W.W. and Nancy Jane Ethridge Fleming Sr., he was born in Grovehill, Ala. on Jan. 31, 1919. Raised in Campbell, he graduated from Commerce High School and attended East Texas State University. He married Mary Dell Ridley on March 13, 1942 in McKinney before entering the U.S. Army.

Mr. Fleming served with General Patton's 69th Armored Infantry Division, participating in the Battle of the Bulge and occupation of Germany. After the war Mr. Fleming returned to duties with the Wyatt's Grocery Store in Dallas. He moved to Waxahachie in 1952 to manage that city's store; his store was perennially recognized as one of the Top 10 stores in North Texas.

He was an integral part of the formation of Wyatt's merging with Kroger. He retired after 43 years with the company and his retirement day was proclaimed as Bill Fleming Day and the Flag was flown in honor of him over the Ellis County Courthouse.

A member of the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, he was a member and past president of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. He was a member and past president of Worshipful Master of the Waxahachie Masonic Lodge 90, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, member and past president of the Waxahachie Lions Club and past president of the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are a son, Bill F. Fleming of Austin; two daughters, Carole Duvall of Lancaster and Cathy Thompson of Midlothian; a brother, N.A. Fleming of Grand Prairie; four sisters, Mary Knight of Las Cruces, N.M., Jo Wiley of Gladewater, Louise Holley of Greenville and Willie Gray McMillan of Selma, Ala; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years in May 1997; three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews Gary Fleming, Johnny Gibson and Ronnie George. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Borders, Sam Winn, Charlie Pace and Lillian Martin.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1311 Ferris Avenue.

Ona Key

QUINLAN - Ona Key, 80, of Quinlan died Sunday at her residence. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan with Lee Tillman officiating.

Daughter of William and Christina McCasland, she was born Feb. 4, 1918 in Union Valley. She and Calvin Key were married in May 1965. She was a member of God of Prophecy Church.

She is survived by three brothers, Raymond Partin and W.J. Partin of Greenville and Donald Partin of Ben Wheeler.

Her husband preceded her in death in July 1979.

Donnie Schones

LONE OAK - Donnie Schones, 64, of Lone Oak died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after a short illness. Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Donelton Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Kuhl officiating and Rev. William Dial assisting. Burial is in the Donelton Cemetery.

He was born May 29, 1934 in Foss, Okla. to Pete Schones and Opal Williams. On Dec. 13, 1954 he married Imogene Lester in Grapevine.

Mr. Schones a retired owner/operator of a plumbing business and had worked for the City of Lone Oak. He was an ordained deacon in the Donelton Baptist Church and had lived in the community for 37 years. He

served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife of Lone Oak; a son, Stephen and daughter-in-law Tammie Schones of Lone Oak; a daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Mark Slaughter of Lone Oak; grandchildren Michael, Natasha, Wendal and Caleb; a brother, James Schones of Bethany, Okla. and sisters Alice Glidewell of Keller, Pauline Brown of Richland Hills and Carrie Avery of Hemet, Calif.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his stepfather, Willie Ash.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bartley's Funeral Home in Lone Oak.

Donald Sterling

QUINLAN - Donald Wayne Sterling of West Tawakoni died Saturday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at the Faith Baptist Church in Quinlan with Rev. Ben Smith and Hershey Barnett officiating. Burial is in Hooker Ridge Cemetery in Lone Oak.

Born in Childress on Jan. 19, 1939, he was the son of Virgil and Gladys Spear Sterling. He married Cindy Sterling on July 12, 1978 in Dallas.

Mr. Sterling worked with air conditioning and heating. HE was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of West Tawakoni; a son, David Sterling of Waco; five daughters, Donna Finch of Lamesa, Cindy Sterling and Donnelle Sterling of Quinlan, P.J. Sears of Tarrington, Ga. and Arden Bowers of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Charles Sterling of Mount Pleasant and a sister, Artie Tascher of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jennifer Bailey

DALLAS - Jennifer Ann "Jeni" Bailey, 21, of Dallas died Wednesday. Funeral services will be a 1 p.m. Monday at Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson. Burial will follow at Restland.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1976 in Ladson, S.C., the daughter of Warren and Jo'An Bailey. She was employed as a network technician at MAGIC.

Survivors include her parents; four sisters, Beckie, Lana, Audrey and Hannah; two brothers, Jimmy and Kenny; stepmother Sherry; and a number of uncles, aunts, cousins and nieces.

Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Aubrey Garrett

EMORY - Aubrey R. Garrett, 91, of Emory died Friday at the Hopkins Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Wilson-Orwosky Chapel at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory with Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. William Potts officiating. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery.

Mr. Garrett was born in Rains County on Oct. 17, 1907, the son of Ross Garrett and Claudia Lennon. He married Gladys Scott in Rains County in 1928. Following her death, he married Opal Northcutt in 1977, also in Rains County. He taught school for 38 years including assignments at Alba and Point. He retired from the Dallas Independent School District in Seagoville. He was also a member of County Line Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Opal Garrett of Emory; a daughter, Barbara Moon of Point; a sister, Dessie Watts of Point; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry on May 10, 1998 and a grandson Jerry Moon on Dec. 5,1991.

Pallbearers are Norwin Lennon, J. R. Preston, James W. Moon, J. Scott Moon, David Russell Garrett and Allen S. Garrett.

Johnny Jett

Johnny Bob Jett, 64, of the Floyd Community died Oct. 23. Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Troy Suggs Funeral Chapel, 7623 Military Parkway, Dallas.

Mr. Jett was born July 7, 1934 in Bivins, Texas. He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Morton Foods, both in Dallas.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Abigail Mollard Jett; two sons, Bob Jett II and Bill Jett; two daughters, Monica Pulliam and Cynthia Scouten; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of McKinney, 2414 W. University, McKinney, Texas 75075-2810.

Maurietta Neblett

EMORY - Maurietta Renee Neblett, an infant, died Saturday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Clifton Cemetery with Rev. Billy Smith officiating.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1998 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Thomas Neblett and Elizabeth Motley.

Survivors include her parents Thomas Neblett and Elizabeth Motley Neblett; two sisters, Moriah Llynn Abbott and Tiffany Danielle Neblett, both of Emory; a grandmother, Clara Motley of Emory; and a grandfather, Thomas Neblett of Emory.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Childers

EMORY - Raymond F. Childers, 88, of Emory, died Friday at Wood Memorial Hospital. Services are at 2 p.m. today in the Wilson-Orwosky Chapel with Rev. Kelly Carr officiating. Burial is in Turner Cemetery.

He was born in Rains County on January 8, 1911 to William Franklin and Elizabeth Clewis Childers. On November 30, 1930, he married Mattie Latham in Rains County. He was a retired rancher and a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving are daughters Joy Weeks of Diboll, and Diane Shewmaker of Emory; brother Josh Childers of Emory; sisters Bonnie Dale Perrino of Dallas, Exa Northcutt of Grand Saline, Modena Latham of Dallas, Estelle McDonald of Dallas, Bea Pulley of Canton, and Velma Childers of Ft. Worth; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 15, 1995; sons Royce on July 15, 1995 and Fayne on February 20, 1996; two infant children, Bobbie Joan and Ronnie; one granddaughter, Jeanette Harris on January 16, 1996; and sister Clara Schmidt.

Pallbearers are Ricky Childers, David Weeks, Ronnie Childers, Derek Childers, Brian Griffin and Jeffrey Reeder. Honorary pallbearers are Jo Ann Marti, Max Jones and Elmer Latham.

Woodie Clemons

TERRELL - Woodie Dee Taylor Clemons, 77, died Friday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday in the Goggans Funeral Home Chapel in Terrell with Rev. Don Lunceford officiating. Burial is in Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

She was born December 21, 1921 to John Thomas and Elizabeth Sims Taylor. She worked at the Dallas Medical and Surgical Clinic or more than 30 years, and was a member of the Elam Road Church of Christ since 1946.

Surviving are her brother Earl Eugene Taylor; son Curtis Michael Clemons; daughters Paula Dee Clemons Stroud and Sandra Jo Clemons Buchowski; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers Samuel Gilbert Taylor, Sr., James Richard Taylor and William Louis Taylor; sisters Mary Mahulda Taylor O'Neal and Marie Taylor Clemmons; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Goggans Funeral Home.

Larry Dickerson

EMORY - Larry Otis Dickerson, 22, of Emory, died Friday at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. Services are at 4 p.m. today at Emory Baptist Church with Dr. D.D. Ramsey and Rev. Don Wisenhunt officiating. Burial is in the Emory City Cemetery.

He was born in Houston to Charles Lee and Mary Rugh McCurley Dickerson and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his parents, of Emory; grandparents Bill and Elise Welch of Troup; grandmothers Margarette Good of Troup, and Leona Dickerson of Forney; sisters Leah D. Welch and Jeana R. Welch of Houston, Malinda Dianna Dickerson of Forney, and Margaret Irene Dickerson of Emory; and girlfriend Nichole Lloy McCrary of Emory.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Renee McCurley, and grandfathers William McCurley and Truman Dickerson.

Pallbearers are B.J. McDaniels, Brad Davis, Brandon Gowin, Paul King, A.Z. Drennon and Richard Roberts. Danny Fitzgerald and Tony Neagle are honorary pallbearers.

Kathryn Hall

GRAHAM - Kathryn Virginia Hall, 79, a former Commerce resident, died Friday in Odessa. Graveside services are 10 a.m. at Gooseneck Cemetery, south of Graham, with Dr. Gary Tull officiating.

She was born in Caddo on July 9, 1919 to Roy Mac and Nora Rose. She grew up in Bunger, where she lived until moving to the Dallas area in 1942 with husband Clarence Hall. The couple moved to Commerce in 1959.

Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Hall and Carol Hall of Odessa; sons Roy Hall of Greenville, and Jimmie Hardin of Aubrey; brother Lee Roy Rose of Bunger; and sister Betty Jean Tucker of Graham.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985.

McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home of Graham is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Simmons

Ruby Alice Simmons, 92, of Greenville, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services are at 2 p.m. today in the Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Bob Priest officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

She was born in the Wieland community on February 6, 1906 to Lewis and Willie Bertha Hart Wilkinson. She married Verna Simmons on October 19, 1924 in Cash. She was a sales lady for Stanley Home Products and a was a Baptist.

Surviving are sons Jerry Simmons of Greenville, Billy Simmons of Greenville, Verna Simmons Jr. of Magnolia, and Johnny Simmons of Wichita Falls; daughters Peggy Davis of Dallas, and Judy Plunkett of Round Rock; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, and brothers Martin Wilkinson and John O. Wilkinson.

Pallbearers are Robert Davis, Tommy Poe, Larry Winters, David Coleman, Hubert McKinney and Howard Winans.

Ernest Emert

LONE OAK - Ernest V. Emert, 77, of Lone Oak died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Lone Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Emert officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert Cook. Burial is in Hooker Cemetery.

Born in Floydada, Floyd County, on June 20, 1921, he was the son of A.T. Emert and Audrey Miller. On Aug. 4, 1940 he married Cecile Daniel in Crosbyton. He was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include his wife of Lone Oak; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Chris Emert of Fort Worth, Earl and Carol Emert of Lone Oak and F. Glen and Janelle Emert of Laurel, Neb.; brothers Owen Emert, Lon Emert, Oliver Emert, Tommy Emert and Elroy Emert of Floyd County and Dale Emert of Dayton; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are grandsons Brian Emert, Marvin Emert, Billy Emert, Merlin Dikeman, Bobby Joe Martin, Brian Laney and John Roberts. Brothers are honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bartley Funeral Home in Lone Oak.

B.R. Fowler

Funeral services for B.R. "Blackie" Fowler of Campbell are at 1 p.m. today at Campbell United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel Arnold, Rev. Gene Welbourn and Rev. Louise Banner Welch officiating. Burial is in Forest Park Cemetery.

Mr. Fowler died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born Nov. 24, 1907 in Grand Saline, son of J.W. Fowler and Mary Campbell Fowler. He and Donna Patten Fowler were married Oct. 26, 1935 in Lone Oak.

Mr. Fowler worked in construction. He was a member of Campbell United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of Campbell; two sons and sisters-in-law, John "Pat" and Nancy Fowler of Dallas and Mike and Carol Fowler of Campbell; a stepdaughter, Margie Moore of Irving and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Fowler; two sisters, Ruby Patten and infant, Birdie May Fowler.

Jim Handorf

LONGVIEW - Services for Jim Roy Handorf, 47, of Longview are at 10 a.m. today at the Greggton First Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Moore officiating. Burial is in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

He died Thursday in a local hospital.

He was born April 1, 1951 in Palestine and was a resident of Longview for 16 years.

Mr. Handorf was Minister of Music and a member of Greggton First Baptist Church and Singing Men of East Texas. He was a music evangelist and served in churches in Palestine, Greenville, Kilgore and Mabank and received his Bachelor of Music degree from East Texas State University.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Handorf of Longview; children, Lea Handorf Childress of Henderson, Aaron Handorf and Gara Handorf of Longview; mother and stepfather, Mary and Buck Kennedy of Palestine; brothers, Lloyd Handorf of Leesville, La. and Dale Handorf of Palestine; sisters, Glennel Rials of Greenville and Sherry Morse of Temple; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Greggton First Baptist Church Organ Fund, 4520 West Marshall Avenue, Longview 75604.

Welch Funeral Home of Longview is in charge of arrangements.

LuVada Lawrence

TERRELL - LuVada Welch Lawrence, 49, of Terrell died Tuesday. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence residence in Terrell.

She was born Dec. 12, 1949 in Canadian.

She is survived by her husband, Grady Lawrence of Terrell; mother, Charity Childress of Terrell; children Patrick Beck of Terrell, Wendy Beck and Wesley Beck of McKinney; brothers Luther Welch of Las Vegas, Nev., Delmar H. Welch of Nevada and Jim Welch of Celeste; sisters, Virginia Pruitt and Nancy Wainwright of Elk City, Okla., Bobbie Brumbley of Terrell and Gladys Hutton of Pflugerville; four grandsons and three granddaughters.

Her father, Delmar C. Welch, preceded her in death.
