Denzil Ramirez

CARTHAGE - Mrs. Denzil Rosetta Ramirez, 79, of Carthage died Tuesday. There is a graveside service at 11 a.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greenville with Rev. Robert Baldridge officiating.

She was born March 22, 1919 in Leonard to James Calvin and Virginia Florence Hallum Casey. She was raised in the Baptist faith and came to Carthage from Garland in 1978.

Surviving are daughters Linda McTee of Lake Wells, Fla., Sarah Adase of Austin and Jackie Walker of Beckville; a sister, Johnnie Mae Sherrill of Dallas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Martin Ramirez and two brothers, James and Carl Casey.

Hawthorn Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse Spiva

WINNSBORO - Jesse E. Spiva, 75, died Tuesday in Winnsboro. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home Chapel in Terrell. Burial is in College Mound Cemetery.

Born June 3, 1923 in Kaufman County, he was the son of Sam and Mary Spiva. He retired from Sherwin Williams, Inc. 1982. He was involved in ranching.

Mr. Spiva was a member of James Ladd Burgess Lodge 1305 and Shrine-Hella Temple of Garland. He was a member of Buckner Boulevard Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Threlkeld of Greenville; stepson, Lloyd Manning of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; brothers Johnny Spiva of Dallas and Henry Spiva of Winnsboro; sisters, Wilma Hickson of Dallas, Barbara Sutherland of Bonham and Clara Ratliff of Abilene; stepbrothers, Ernest Washburn of Seagoville and Levi Washburn of Dallas; one grandson and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane Spiva; a twin brother, James Spiva and a brother, Sam Edwin Spiva.

Pallbearers are his grandson, Lance Threlkeld, and nephews.

Robert Geiser

Robert H. Geiser of Quinlan died Tuesday at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Verner Ulrich, Fayne Bass and Pat Norfleet officiating. Burial is at Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born in Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 2, 1923, he was the son of Everett W. Geiser and Neva Horlocker. He married Janet C. Krumm on June 15, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Geiser served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a retired tool builder from Vought Aerospace. He was a member of the Battle Axe Church of Christ and a member of Greenville I.O.O.F. Lodge, American Legion and D.A.V.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert D. Geiser of Quartz Hill, Calif. and Herman E. Geiser of Ladson, S.C.; a daughter, Donna Kay Sexton of Quinlan; a brother, Carl E. Hane of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers are Arlen Butler, Andrew Williams, Billy Ford, Cecil Clark, Robert Pharr and James Thomason.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bennie Johnson

Bennie R. Johnson of Greenville died Monday at Greenville Health and Rehab. There is a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kan.

The son of Luna Johnson and Siota Poe, he was born March 19,1906 in La Russell, Mo. He married Verda Bell Witter on Oct. 2, 1926 in Gerard, Kan. Mr. Johnson was a cast iron molder. He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Wayland Simpkins of Greenville and Maxine and Don Garrett of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister, Helen Knight of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert King

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" W. King, 72, of Greenville, are at 11 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Nichols and John Reynolds officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park. He died Monday at his residence.

Born in Winnsboro on April 6, 1926, he was the son of James Hubert King and Trudy B. Gandy King. Mr. King was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended East Texas State University. He and Lou Jean Mahaffey were married Nov. 12, 1949 in St. Louis, Mo. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.

Mr. King was the retired owner of Greenville Sporting Goods from 1957 to 1979. He had also been employed by Eastern Airlines in St. Louis, Mo. He was commissioner of Junior League baseball in the 1960s and also sponsored a Junior League team.

Mr. King was a member of the Downtown Businessmen's Association, past president of Crockett School Dad's Club and was a past member of the Greenville Jaycees. He served as a member of the board of directors for Greenville Lake and Water Company (Club Lake).

Mr. King was a member of Wesley Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and taught a fifth and sixth grade Sunday School class.

Surviving are his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Katie King of Dallas and Philip and Regina King of Miami, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gary Baczkowski of The Colony; a sister, Dorothy F. King of Dallas; grandchildren Allison King, April King, Robert King, Margaret King, Caroline Baczkowski and Kathleen Baczkowski and a nephew, Bert Pennington Granbury.

His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Carter Smith, Dr. John Colquitt, Brian Weeks, Kip Holloway, Kirk Bouknight and Greg Gilmer. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Richard Baum, Bill Gilmer, George Herlt, Dr. Van Kaden, Tom Loposer, Hewitt Mosley, John Reynolds and Saul Speyrer.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church: Earmark Sports Field, The American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Gary Widener

COMMERCE - Gary Widener, 42, of Commerce, formerly of Borger, died Thursday. There is a service today at 11 a.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Widener was a retired employee of IBM and had lived in Commerce for the past ten years.

He is survived by a son, Joseph Widener of Austin; daughters Jessica and Stephanie Widener, both of Austin; his mother, Ruth Widener of Borger; a brother, Truman Widener of Moore, Okla.; sisters, Lila Richards of Dallas, Janice Langford and Celia Connelly, both of Amarillo, Diane Scroggins of Borger and Sharon Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Edna Ford

Edna Laura Ford, 62, of Sherman died Friday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman. Funeral services are at Pleasant Grove CME Church in Ladonia at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with Wesley Pierce officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Born Sept. 4, 1936 in Ladonia, she was the daughter of Clarence Simms Sr. and Annie Mae Britt Simms.

Surviving are her mother of Sherman; two sons, Edward F. Thompson and Benny Reed, both of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Merelle Thompson of Ladonia; a brother, John Simms of Sherman; two sisters, Dorothy Kimbrough of Sherman and Valrie Carr of Leonard and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Clarence Simms Jr.

Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers.

Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Monday

COMMERCE - Rose Monday, 97, of San Antonio, formerly of Commerce, died Sunday. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce with Dr. Bobby Tollison officiating.

The daughter of William B. Adams and Laura Stewart, she was born Oct. 21, 1901 in Tira. She married James "Jim" C. Monday in Commerce in 1920.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State Teachers College and her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from Texas Women's University in Denton, with post graduate work at Columbia University in New York.

Mrs. Monday was a retired school teacher who had taught in many places in Texas. She was a member of the D.A.R., B.P.W., A.A.U.W., Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce.

Surviving are a son, Daymon Monday of McAllen; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Her husband preceded her in death in December 1982.

Visitation is from 4 to 5 p.m. today at Pemberton Funeral Home in Commerce.

Glenn Cunnyngham

PIKE - Services for Glenn Cunnyngham, 74, of Pike, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Pike Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. He died Saturday in a Dallas hospital.

Born on May 7, 1924 in Blue Ridge, he was the son of Elbert Alton Cunnyngham and Selma Carlton Cunnyngham. He was a heavy machine operator and a member of the Pike Baptist Church.

He is survived by a sister, Ara Walker of Farmersville; brothers Horice I. Cunnyngham and Henry K. Cunnyngham, both of Pike; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 until 7 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home in Leonard, which is in charge of arrangements.

Paula Jones

DALLAS - Services for Paula Jean Jones, 72, of Dallas, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel . Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmersville. She died Friday in Terrell.

Born in Farmersville on Nov. 8, 1926, she was the daughter of Millard and Gertrude Parris Arnold. She marred Lilburn Jones in Dallas on Sept. 12, 1945. She was a secretary for the Lone Star Gas Company.

She is survived by her husband, Lilburn Jones of Dallas; a daughter, Vicki Rollin of Terrell; a sister, Mrs. Glenda Barnett of Garland; a brother, Gary Wayne Arnold of Red Oak; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled Monday morning at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Eddie Akins

Eddie V. Akins of Ladonia died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasent Grove CME Church in Ladonia with Rev. Esther Lawson and Rev. Curtis Pruitt officiating. Burial is in Pleasent Grove Cemetery.

The son of Leo and Nona P. Shaw Akins, he was born in Ladonia on July 16, 1948. He married Joyce Wright on April 28, 1969 in Wichita Falls.

Mr. Akins was a retired employee of Dillard's Department Store. He was a member of Pleasent Grove CME Church.

Surviving are his wife of Sulphur Springs; two sons, Eddie Akins of Garland and Alex Arais of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Linnie Akins Campbell of Dallas; a brother, Dwight Akins of California; two sisters, Mattie and Sharon and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Pallbearers are Brain Wright, Eddie Akins, Michael Crowley, Maurice Lewis, Jeff Scott and Jimmy Adams.

Visitation is from 5 to 6 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.

Lester Biringer

Lester Biringer, 80, of Greenvilled died Thursday at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Biringer was born July 26, 1918, in Hillside, N.J.; the son of Herman and Laura Dennis Biringer. He was a colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and was a self-contracting telephone repairman.

Surviving are his wife, Jimmie Biringer of Greenville; sons, Wayne Biringer of Hobbs, N.M. , Bill Alsup of Rogers, Ark. and Christoper Waitman of Southlake; daughters, Carole Paterson of Hobbs, N.M., Vianna Alsup of Rogers, Ark. and Cynthia Moore of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brothers, Donald Biringer of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters, Rene Olson and Charlotte John, both of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Blanche Rogers of Sholow, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Biringer and Stan Biringer, and one sister.

Peters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Omega Estep

ROYSE CITY - Omega "Opal" Estep, 64, of Royse City died Wednesday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Central Baptist Church of Fate with Rev. Charles R. Ison officiating. Burial is in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney.

She was born Aug. 31, 1934. She was the owner of Silver Dollar Antiques for 30 years and a resident of Royse City for 30 years.

Mrs. Estep was a writer of gospel and country songs recorded by such artists as Emmie Lou Harris and Alabama. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Fate.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Ferguson and Tim D. Marshall, both of Royse City; a brother, Bobby Estep of Lewisville; sisters Olene Bailey of Garland, Patsy Dugger of Sherman and Lorene Guest of Atlanta and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Joe Estep; a son Jeffrey Lynn Ferguson and grandson Joshua Lewis Ferguson.

Pallbearers are Jay Bailey, Bill Dugger, Andy Masters, Jerry Swanner, Jimmy Estep and Gerald Bailey.

Rest Haven Funeral Home-Royse City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Fletcher

EMORY - Funeral services for Alice Irene Barker Fletcher of Hurst will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.D. Jackson and Elizabeth Jackson officiating. Burial is in the Emory City Cemetery. She died Wednesday at North Richland Hills Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1902 in Emory, she was the daughter of Joseph B. and Margaret Emma Morehead Barker. On March 23, 1920 she married Douglas Jennings Fletcher in Emory.

Mrs. Fletcher was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.

Surviving are a son, Douglas Jennings Fletcher II of Eagle Pass; two daughters, Emma Jena Latimer of Hurst and Edith Louise Fletcher of Austin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frankie Lemon

COMMERCE - Frankie Lemon, 79, of Commerce died Wednesday at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cary Canard officiating. Burial is in Shiloh Cemetery at Klondike.

The daughter of Franklin Guest and Lillie Mae Young Guest, she was born March 11, 1936 in Davidson, Okla. She married Claudie Lemon on Feb. 6, 1919 in Idabel, Okla. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are a son, Roy Lemon of Campbell; daughters Janie Lunceford of Campbell and Merita Satterwhite of Oklahoma; three half-sisters; two half-brothers; two step-brothers; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964; a daughter, Patsy Lemon and a grandson, Jackie Lunceford in March, 1996.

Tommy Hackney, H.B. Earl, Don Ethridge, Harold Peterson, Claude Lemon and Clarence Lemon are pallbearers.

Mary Lemons

FARMERSVILLE - Mary Lou Lemons, 86, of McKinney died Wednesday. Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. today at the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Rev. John Connor officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Born in Arkadelphia, Ark. on Aug. 12, 1912, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Jackson. On May 28, 1928 she married Ely Lemons in Arkadelphia. Mrs. Lemons was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.

She is survived by sons Harold Lemons of Whitney, James Lemons of Ft. Worth and Denny Lemons of Sims; a sister, Juanita Hearn of Arkadelphia, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
