James Pearson

James Howard Pearson, 61, of Greenville, died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Cloral Lovell officiating. Burial will be in East Mount Cemetery.

Mr. Pearson was born Aug. 5, 1937 in El Paso, the son of James A. Pearson and Lucille Shelton. He married Mary Beth Erwin on Dec. 23, 1960 in Greenville. He served in the U.S. Army, was the owner of Mid-Town Paint and Body Shop, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He also served as second vice commander in the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Pearson of Greenville; his step-mother, Jewel Pearson of Greenville; a son, Jimmy Pearson of Greenville; three daughters, Laura Wood, Amy Pearson, and Beth Quintero, all of Greenville; a brother, Henry Pearson of Jackson, Miss.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and his parents.

Pallbearers are Don Warrick, Randall Causey, Truman Tate, Darrell Crouch, David Harvey and George Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Coker, David Minton, Bill Graves, Jim Quattlebaum, Kelly Kinslow, and all other American Legion ex-board members.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Anderson

COMMERCE - Frances Pauline "Pat" Anderson, 75, of Commerce died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. No services are planned.

Born in Mississippi on Feb. 20, 1924, she was the daughter of Sidney and Lelia Coates Pridmore. She married Vernon "Andy" Anderson on Dec. 21,1946 in Mississippi.

Survivors are a son, David Anderson of Atlanta; brother Harold Pridmore of Commerce; sister Dixie Nash of Siloan Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Edith Brewer and a son, Robert Hamm Jr. on March 5, 1999.

Lee Bourland

BLUE RIDGE - Lee Thomas Bourland, 93, of Blue Ridge died Friday in McKinney. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Blue Ridge with Rev. Travis Maxwell and Rev. Bob Collinsworth officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Son of L.S. Bourland and Maggy Tollson Bourland, he was born Oct. 25, 1905. He and Merle Copeland Bourland were married Dec. 24, 1935 in Blue Ridge. Mr. Bourland served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blue Ridge and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a sister, Leta Mae Littrell of McKinney.

Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Royce Simmons

LEONARD - Funeral services for Royce Lee Simmons, 57, of Leonard, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard with Bishop Lee Brown officiating. He died Wednesday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

He was born July 16, 1941 in Bagwell to Carlee Simmons and Laura Frazier Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Mallory Simmons of Sherman; daughters Laura Young of Dallas, Mary Edwards of Fort Worth and Kizzy Ransom of Greenville; sons Richard Moore of Fort Worth and Lorenzo Simmons of Leonard; brothers C.S. Simmons of Mineola, V.T. Simmons of Celeste, Tommy Lee Simmons of Fort Worth, Curlee Simmons Jr. of Leonard, Esten Love of Paris and Leonard Liggins of Dallas; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Ivory G. Turner, Eugene Harris, Gary Brown, Ricky Bush, Jessie B. Woods and Fred Espy Jr.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joe Talley

Joe W. Talley, 75, of Greenville died Friday at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Norris, Rev. Larry Combs and Rev. Jason Rolen officiating. A graveside service will be conducted by Caddo Mills Masonic Lodge No. 581 in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Son of Eugene and Bessie Cora Cornelius Talley, he was born Oct. 15, 1923 in Royse City. He was married to Viola Wallace on Feb. 4, 1950 in Greenville. He worked for F.E.C., TP&L, TU Electric and retired in October 1986 after 37 years of service from the City of Greenville electric department. Mr. Talley was a member of Paradise Baptist Church and Caddo Mills Masonic Lodge No. 581. He coached Little League and was a member and former president of the Greenville Saddle Club.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; two sons, Andy Talley of Wagner and Randy Talley of Floyd; a daughter, Wanda Smithey of Greenville; a brother, Charles Talley of Royse City; three sisters, Charlene Coffer of Dallas, Frances B. Beheler of Royse City and Sue Dennis of Royse City and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, W.M. Talley and Kenneth Talley.

Pallbearers will be Warren Talley, Ronnie Dennis, Ricky Dennis, Louis Wayne Beheler, Tim Talley, Ronald Talley and Mike Talley. Honorary pallbearers will be employees and former employees of Greenville Electric.

Memorials may be made to Paradise Baptist Church, American Lung Association or to the Masonic Home for Children, c/o Caddo Mills Masonic Lodge No. 581.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home.

Mahala Burrow

PARIS - Mahala Burrow, 92, of Mesquite, formerly of Roxton, died Wednesday at Heritage Place Nursing Home in Mesquite. Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bright-Holland Funeral Home in Paris with Presley Eddings officiating. Burial is in Restland Cemetery in Roxton.

Born in Roxton on March 3, 1907, she was the daughter of Joe and Hettie Derrick Neighbors. She married Brown Burrow. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Burrow of Garland and Earl Ralph Burrow of St. Roberts, Mo.; five grandchildren, Sonja Reves, Bobby Burrow, Terry Burrow, Shane Burrow and Jeff Burrow; six great-grandchildren and one nephew, Tony Winn.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; a sister, Myrtle Winn Ford and a brother, George Truman Neighbors.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Deaton

EMORY - Funeral services for Betty Deaton, 68, of Emory, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory with Delton Alexander officiating. Burial is in Emory City Cemetery. She died Wednesday at Titus County Memorial Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

The daughter of Clyde and Willie Pease Whitehead, she was born Sept. 17, 1930 in Cuero. On Feb. 21, 1951 she married Bill Deaton in Dallas.

Mrs. Deaton retired from the Rains County Leader and she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of Emory; her mother of Westhoff and a son, John Deaton of Mount Pleasant.

Pallbearers are Floyd Greene, Henry Wade, James Vaughn, Russell Scott and Allen Stuart. Honorary pallbearers are Homer Robertson, Phil Harris, Bill Brimer and Leon Clark.

Memorials may be made to Historical Society and Emory City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Janet Faunce

COMMERCE - Janet Raser Faunce, 81, of Dallas and Weston, Vt. died of cancer Sunday in Cumby. There is a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday at Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Dallas.

Born in Roselle, N.J. on June 19, 1917, she was the daughter of John Vincent Raser and Edith Reed.

Mrs. Faunce grew up in Boston and Newton, Mass. Her early career was in graphic arts, textile design, decorative arts and painting. She began portrait painting in 1949 in New York City and moved to Dallas in 1951 to begin a career solely as a portrait painter and was best known for her children's portraits. She also painted adult portraits, many of whom were prominent businessmen and women.

Mrs. Faunce moved her studio to Vermont in 1996 and lived back forth between Texas and Vermont. She was also an accomplished pianist.

She was a member of the Dallas Museum of Art and Portraits Inc. of New York City, N.Y. For many years she did volunteer work at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Reed Faunce of Commerce; a daughter, Wendy Johnson of Ridgefield, Conn.; a brother, John Vincent Raser of York, Maine; seven grandchildren, Heidi, Scott and Heather Porter, Buffie Faunce, Lari Eaton, Amy Worley and Christine Overstreet and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice, 2414 West University, Suite 200, McKinney, 75070.

Pemberton Funeral Home of Commerce is in charge of arrangements.

Leila Hooten

McKINNEY - Leila Pauline Hooten, 85, of McKinney, died Thursday at the McKinney Healthcare Center. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Street Church of Christ in Greenville with Bill James and Rick Henslee officiating. Burial is in the Van Sickle Cemetery.

She was born May 27, 1913 in Greenville to Walter Adolphus and Flora Cathey Houk. She was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.

Surviving are a sister-in-law Clara Houk of Greenville; nieces Wilma Holloway of McKinney, Catherine Taylor of Georgia, Elreda Davis of Fort Worth, Lerah Hackney of Springtown and Jackie Martin of Arlington and nephews Bobby Houk of Fort Worth and J.W. "Sunny" Farris of Mansfield.

Visitation is today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in cooperation with Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, Inc. Funeral Directors of McKinney.

William Plunkett

CADDO MILLS - William Henry Plunkett, 75, of Quinlan died Wednesday at his residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel in Caddo Mills with Rev. Eddie Adair officiating. Burial is in Weaver Cemetery.

Born in Hamlin on Feb. 3, 1924, he was the son of Clarence William Plunkett and Josie Francis Graham Plunkett. He was married to Jeanette Rowan on Jan. 13, 1990 in Quinlan.

Mr. Plunkett served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was an aviation mechanic for over 25 years. He was a member of Church on the Lake.

He was also a member of Masonic Trestle Board Lodge 534, Quinlan and Shiloh Number 307, AF& AM Masonic Lodge in Lone Oak and Eastern Star Chapter 170 out of Quinlan.

Surviving are his wife of Quinlan; children, Ray, Debra, Judy, Jerry, Marsha, Carol, Tommy, Larry, Ruth, Ronnie, Mike, Elizabeth, Kathy, Alvin, Jessie and Mayetta of Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Kentucky and Washington; brothers, Jerry E. Plunkett of Maude, Ray Plunkett of Quinlan and Benny Charles Plunkett of Garland; sisters, Evelyn Augabright and Francis Robertson of Garland and Clara Pickett of Palestine; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one sister.

Friends and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Orene Rhoades

Orene Rhoades, 88, of Greenville died Wednesday at Briarcliff Health Center. Private funeral services are at the Mount Carmel Chapel with Rev. Stone Risinger officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Daughter of Robert W. Norris and Mary Lee Bradley, she was born April 22, 1910 in Quinlan. She married Dwight Rhoades on July 4, 1943 in Leonard.

Mrs. Rhoades was a school teacher, retired, with Greenville Independent School District. She was a member of Central Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Dwilene and Steven L. Korby of Dallas; a brother, Norman Norris of Mena, Ark.; sisters-in-law Ruth Arnold and Nell Esslinger, both of Greenville; granddaughter and husband Sophie and Charles Dowling of New York; grandson John McNabb of New York and great-grandson Henry Tappan Dowling of New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 25, 1999; three brothers and two sisters.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Royce Simmons

Mae Smith

EMORY - Funeral services for Mae Smith, 92, of Emory will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. William Potts, Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. Joe Alvis Strebeck officiating. Burial is in Turner Cemetery.

She died Thursday at Green Acres Nursing Home in Emory.

She was born Oct. 7, 1906 in Wood County to William and Ada Galyean Riley. On July 11, 1930 she married Vernon Strebeck in Wood County; he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1960. She married Will Smith at Bright Star Church on July 4, 1964; he died on March 31, 1995. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Surviving are sons Albert Hughey Strebeck of Mesquite and V.O. Strebeck Jr. of Barry; a daughter, Leuna Jacobs of Mesquite; two brothers, Olen Riley of Garland and Ernest Riley of Quitman; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Lance Strebeck, Mike Strebeck, Bill Riley, Bill McGahee, Bobby Strebeck and Wayne Wolfe.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.

Leo Taylor

FARMERSVILLE - Leo Jacob Taylor, 77, of Blue Ridge died Wednesday at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville with Rev. Gerald Johnson officiating. Burial is in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

The son of Fred L. Taylor and Bertha Logan Taylor, he was born July 18, 1921 in Childress. He married Lillie Decker on Aug. 27, 1939 in Farmersville.

Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a mechanical engineer and he was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of Blue Ridge; daughters, Melba Faye Kennon of Wills Point, Joyce Elaine McDaniel of Kaufman, Carol Sandifer of Anna and Patricia Shotwell of Kaufman; sons Leo J. Taylor Jr. of Leonard, Darrell Taylor of Florence, Colo., Mark Anthony Taylor of Allen and Troy Taylor of Denton; sisters Betty Redd of Pleasant Grove, Pauline Ewing of Tennessee and Josie Lovell of Modesto, Calif.; a brother, Billy Ray Taylor of Seagoville; 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lorraine Willeford

Lorraine Willeford of Quinlan died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Boles officiating.

Born Aug. 18, 1918 in Wylie, she was the daughter of M.A. Bramhall and Emma Quick. On Jan. 22, 1954 she married John C. Willeford in Durant, Okla.

Mrs. Willeford was a retired decorator with International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trade Local 756 in Dallas. She was a Baptist.

She is survived by a son, Johnny Cothrum of Quinlan; two brothers, C.J. Bramhall of Quinlan and Jack Bramhall of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 31, 1994 and one son.

Bobby Henslee

ROCKWALL - Bobby W. Henslee, 60, of Royse City died Wednesday in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with R.V. Snyder officiating. Burial is in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Born April 7, 1938 in Farmersville, he was the son of Hermon and Frankie Harris Henslee. He married Sue Cash on Jan. 15, 1972.

Mr. Henslee retired in March 1996 from Pierce Manufacturing Corp. where he was shop foreman. He had lived in Royse City for 20 years and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Royse City.

Surviving are his wife of Royse City; a son, Steve Henslee of Farmersville; a daughter, Misti Henslee of Royse City; a brother, Jack Henslee of Farmersville; one grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
