W.C. Hockett

FARMERSVILLE - W.C. Hockett, 62, of Copeville died Monday. Funeral services are a 10 a.m. Friday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 18, 1937 in Merit to Dewey Hockett and Wilma I. Gray Hockett. He served in the U.S. Army and he was a truck driver.

Surviving are a daughter, Janine Young of Baytown; a son, Wade Conley Hockett of Deer Park; his mother of Rockwall; sisters, Kathy Ward, Wanda Goodson and Doris Baker, all of Odessa; brothers Don Hockett of Angleton, Billy Hockett of Farmersville and Raymond Hockett of Allen and three grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maybelle Johnson

COMMERCE - Maybelle Johnson, 92, of Commerce died Tuesday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with David Gibson officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.

The daughter of Payton Mosley Ferguson and Lilly Nabors, she was born Sept. 9, 1906 in Baldwin, Miss. She married Harold Floyd Johnson on Nov. 6, 1926 in Commerce.

Mrs. Johnson attended public schools in Baldwin, Miss. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Progressive Women's Homemaker Club and Fairlie Women's Club.

Mrs. Johnson, a longtime resident of the Yowell Community in Delta County, was a retired postmistress at Yowell.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Ruth Johnson of the Yowell Community; a grandson and wife, Tim and Angelia Johnson of Olathe, Kan.; three granddaughters, Jeannie and husband Terry Bordovsky of Red Oak, Martha and husband Fred Rehder of Garland and Jaquitta Dudley of Garland; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 16, 1987; a son, Lawayne Johnson on April 16, 1995; a brother, Guy Ferguson and three sisters, Eva Wilson, Maurine Camp and Hazel Rogers.

Pallbearers are Tim Johnson, Terry Bordovsky, Louis Goates, Ellis Camp, David Camp, James Rogers and W.L. Sansing.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alma Loftis

FARMERSVILLE - Funeral services for Alma B. Loftis, 98, of Overton, formerly of Farmersville, are at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

She died Tuesday in Tyler.

The daughter of Walter C. Buck and Lougenia Canup Buck, she was born July 16, 1900 in Royse City. She and Marvin T. Loftis were married Nov. 23, 1916.

Mrs. Loftis was a homemaker and was a member of First Methodist Church of Farmersville.

She is survived by two sisters, Josie Box and Oma Smith, both of Farmersville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation if from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Veres

MAYFIELD, Ohio - Greenville native Dorothy Grace Veres of Mayfield, Ohio, died Feb. 28 in an East Cleveland, Ohio, nursing home. Services were March 4 at DiCicco & Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Veres was born Sept. 14, 1922, to Robert A. and Helen Fleeman Greenhalgh. She married Andrew Veres Jr. on Dec. 31, 1944 while he was stationed in the service in Greenville.

Surviving are her husband of Mayfield; two daughters, Patti Crichton and Deborah Veres, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother and sister, Robert and Jane Greenhalgh.

David Brady

David Adam Brady, 38, of Greenville, died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with J.P. Perez officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born June 29, 1960 in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of Paul H. Brady Sr. and Lois Shrock. On Dec. 4, 1982 he married Carolyn Leftwich in Mill Creek, W.Va.

Mr. Brady served in the Air Force/Army Reserve. He was owner of The Medical Store.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; his parents of Mill Creek, W.Va.; two sons, David Ernest Brady and Matthew Paris Brady, both of Greenville; brothers Paul Brady of Mill Creek, W.Va., Daniel Brady of Huttonville, W.Va. and Mark Brady of Daily, W.Va. and sisters Kathy Swecker and Toni Kenny, both of Tennessee and Margaret Bennett of Daily, W.Va.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Robert Grant, Chuck Grant, Ted Jones, Ron Bolton Sr., Ron Bolton Jr. and Brett McManus.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Floyd Burnett

LADONIA - Floyd C. Burnett, 86, of Ladonia died Sunday at Belmire Health Care Facility in Bowie. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Ladonia with Guille Seigler of Fort Worth officiating. Burial is in Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham.

The son of Wesley and Rosa Chandler Burnett, he was born Jan. 7, 1913 in Gober. He received bachelor and master degrees from East Texas State Teacher's College and began his teaching career in Fannin County schools in 1934.

Mr. Burnett served as principal and superintendent of the Sterling City schools from 1939-43. He married Ruth Cain in 1935.

In 1943 he accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Navy and retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1968.

After the war, Mr. Burnett returned to the field of education. He moved to Ladonia in 1952 and served as superintendent of the Ladonia schools from 1954 until 1960.

He was the architect of the consolidation of the Ladonia and Pecan Gap schools into the Fannindel Independent School District and served as its first superintendent until 1968.

He worked as a program officer in the U.S. Office of Education in Dallas from 1968 until his retirement in 1977, when he returned to his farm in Ladonia.

Mr. Burnett continued his involvement with the Fannin County Retired Teachers and served as Democratic County Chairman. In 1983 then-Governor Mark White appointed him as a State Board member for the Department of Aging.

Mr. Burnett was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Ladonia and was a 50-year Master Mason. He was an honorary life member of the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Chandler and Janet Burnett of Whitesboro, Lyle and Gayla Burnett of Bowie and Quentin and Syd Burnett of Argyle; two brothers, Bill Burnett of Dallas and Leo Burnett of Nederland; a sister, June Burgess of Bonham and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995 and by a daughter, Barbara Jane Burnett.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ladonia.

Delta Funeral Home of Ladonia is in charge of arrangements.

Irethia Lewis

Irethia H. Lewis of Greenville died Sunday at her home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clark Street Christian Church with Rev. W.D. Hines officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

The daughter of Gigg and Tishha Lewis, she was born Nov. 7, 1904 in Jefferson. She was married to George Lewis in 1931 in Greenville.

Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and was a member of Clark Street Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband of Greenville; a son, Joe Wilson Lewis of Greenville; three daughters, Georgia Everett of Daingerfield and Dorothy Cozine and Freddie Barrett of Greenville; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three children, three brothers and one sister.

Deacons of Clark Street Christian Church will serve as pallbearers.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Otho Morgan

FORT WORTH - Otho Bass Morgan of Fort Worth, formerly of Greenville and Cumby, died Monday. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunny Point Cemetery in Cumby with Kenny Bayless officiating.

Mr. Morgan was born June 3, 1919 in Greenville. He was a graduate of Cumby School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Texas Christian University. He moved to Fort Worth in 1949.

Mr. Morgan was an elementary school teacher for 35 years at Morningside Elementary and was a principal at Charles E. Nash, Wycliff, Mary Louise Phillips and J.T. Stevens schools.

He retired in 1978 and a library was named in his honor. He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ and the local and state Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Charlene Morgan; two daughters, Judy Ann Brummett of Fort Worth and Joy Morgan of Denton; a sister, Dorothy Tanner; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Camp Blue Haven, Box 1300, Canyon, 79015.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

Lucy Scott

LONE OAK - Lucy G. Scott, 96, of Lone Oak died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. today at Hooker Cemetery with Rev. Jacqueline Harmon officiating.

Born Feb. 6, 1903 in Spring Creek, Tenn., Mrs. Scott had lived in Lone Oak for over 80 years. She was a Methodist and was a member of Women's Society for Christian Science.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Norma Scott of Carthage and two grandchildren, Jeff Scott of Brenham and Susan Scott of Jasper.

Her husband, E.D. Scott, preceded her in death.

Bartley Funeral Home of Lone Oak is in charge of arrangements.

W.J. Watson

W.J. "Dub" Watson, 81, of Lone Oak died Monday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park with Dr. W. Riley Hamilton officiating.

The son of Samuel Watson and Bertha King Watson, he was born March 31, 1917 in Hunt County. He retired from Dallas Athletic Club and he farmed in the Caddo Mills area. Mr. Watson was a Baptist.

He is survived by two daughters, Glenda and husband Don Campbell of Horatio, Ark. and Nellie Watson of Caddo Mills; two brothers, Charles Watson and Herman Watson, both of Lone Oak; a sister, Ruth Smith of Lone Oak; two grandchildren, Jason Campbell and Teresa Bunyard and a great-grandchild, Jacob Bunyard.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, Alfred and Elvon.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until noon today at Peters Funeral Home.

Richard Williams

LONE OAK - Richard Douglas "Red" Williams, 76, of Lone Oak died at his home Sunday. There is a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday at Wind Point Park Lodge in Lone Oak with Rev. Patricia Fleming officiating.

He was born May 16, 1922 in Panhandle to Edward Pearson Williams and Milamae Clark Williams. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Mary Eskridge Williams on April 11, 1944. He moved to Lone Oak from Fort Worth in 1985.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard Douglas Williams Jr.; two daughters, Mary Karen Williams and Sandra Louise Farmer; a sister, Geraldine Virginia Heath of Los Alamos, N.M.; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Mary Howell

CADDO MILLS - Mary Hazel Howell, 83, of Royse City died Sunday at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Royse City with Rev. Bettye Elledge and Rev. Clay Womack officiating. Burial is in Royse City Cemetery.

The daughter of Rev. W.D. Craig and Ruth Elizabeth Hankins Craig, she was born Aug. 19, 1915 in Malone County. She married Clifford D. "Pruney" Howell on Jan. 21, 1942 in Kaufman.

She worked as a registered nurse at the Terrell Colonial Hospital and Terrell State Hospital. She worked for the Green Thumb organization and was assigned to the City of Royse City as a clerk.

Mrs. Howell did volunteer work for the Navaho Methodist Mission School in Farmington, N.M. and Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Royse City.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law of Fraya and Paul Fisk of Royse City; twins Butch and Donna Howell of Royse City and Ouida and Jerrell Baley of Royse City; grandchildren Cliff and Lynne Fiske of Mesquite, Patrick Baley of Royse City, Tony and Heather Fisk of Dallas, Michael Baley of Albuquerque, N.M., Charles Wayne Howell of Dallas and Lindsey Ann Howell of Plano; stepgrandchildren Traci Jo Pierce of Royse City and Laura Rebecca Pierce of Royse City and great-grandchild Piper Christine Fisk of Dallas.

Pallbearers are Don Bumpass, Jim Mallody, Jim Dailey, Connie Goodwin, Dana Thomasson, Bobby Crowell, Doug Bostick and David Laisure.

Rentfrow Funeral Home, Inc. of Caddo Mills is in charge of arrangements.

Wilmuth Jenkins

LEONARD - Funeral services for Wilmuth Earl Jenkins, 91, of Leonard are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard with Rev. Jimmy Sloan officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery near Whitewright.

He died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

Born Feb. 4, 1908 in Whitewright, he was the son of Walter Jenkins and Ethel Carter Jenkins. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge of Whitewright and the Eastern Star.

Mr. Jenkins owned and operated the Jenkins Variety Store in Leonard for many years.

He is survived by his wife Bernice Jenkins of Greenville; daughters Velda Hunter of Mesquite and Betty Hunt of Houston; a sister, Veneta Sanford of Sherman; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elva Lerret

FORT WORTH - Elva Atherton Lerret, 90, of Fort Worth, formerly of Hunt County, died Saturday. There is a memorial service at 2 p.m. today at The Chapel of The Good Sheperd, University Christian Church in Fort Worth with Dr. Charles Sanders officiating. There is a private burial in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.

She was born Aug. 9, 1908 in Hunt County near Wolfe City to Charles E. and Zura Atherton. In 1925 she entered C.I.A. (now Texas Woman's University), where she earned bachelor and master of arts degrees.

A mathematics teacher, she began teaching at a three-teacher school in Hackberry near Little Elm in Denton County. Her teaching career of 45 years included positions at Frisco, Bonham, Dallas, Hardin-Simmons University, University of Illinois, Texas Christian University and finally at Arlington Heights High School. She retired in 1972.

She was married to Paul E. Lerret for 30 years; he preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Lerret had lived in Fort Worth since 1946 and had been a resident of Broadway Plaza since 1992.

She was a member of University Christian Church for 50 years and attended the Moudy Sunday School class and was active in many church activities. She enjoyed volunteering at All Saints Hospital at the Information Desk for 16 years.

Mrs. Lerret was an active member of Fort Worth Woman's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Fort Worth Retired Teachers and the American Association of University Women.

Surviving are sisters Lucille McKinney and Laura B. Braddy of Fort Worth; two nieces; three nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron and Leonard, and a sister, Dorothy.

The family will receive visitors at University Christian Church following the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to University Christian Church Endowment Fund or Vitas Hospice.

Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home of Fort Worth is in charge of arrangements.
