Dr. T.M. Harvey

ATHENS - Private graveside services for Dr. T.M. Harvey, 73, of Athens are at 1 p.m. today at the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery. He died Monday.

The son of Rufus Daniel Sr. and Hermie Griffin Harvey, he was born July 13, 1925 in Dallas. He grew up in Cooper and Greenville. After serving as an instructor in the Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, he entered East Texas State University, receiving his bachelor and master of science degrees, and later his Ph.D.

Dr. Harvey served several school districts as teacher, principal and superintendent before accepting the presidency of what was then Henderson County Junior College in Athens in 1971.

During his tenure, enrollment at the college grew from 1,000 to 2,500 students. He also pioneered the building of junior college centers, establishing such centers in Palestine, Terrell and the Texas Prison System.

In 1978 he accepted the position of Director of Training and Development at Curtis Mathias Manufacturing Co. He was later assistant to the president of Navarro College and then he conducted his own educational consulting and superintendent search service until he retired in 1995.

While active in school circles, Dr. Harvey served on numerous state committees, including the Southern Association of Schools Executive Committee, Texas Junior College Association Board of Directors and chairman of the Texas Eastern Athletic Conference. He authored hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles on education, as well as books on school administration.

Dr. Harvey was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher of First Baptist Church in Athens.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy Bennett Harvey of Athens; a son, Randy Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Kim Howry of Athens and Kerry Pennington of Van; two stepsons, Don Bennett and Martin Bennett, both of Athens; a stepdaughter, Diane Wilson of Richardson; a brother, R.D. Harvey of Houston; three sisters, Mildred McKinney of Greenville, Daphne Moore of Odessa and Lillian Phillips of Granbury; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Walker Harvey, in 1980.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, First National Bank, in care of Don Copeland, P.O. Box 751, Athens, 75751.

Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Mack Sr.

Gerald Marshall Mack Sr. of Quinlan died Sunday at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. today at Simmons Cemetery. Rev. Robert Baldridge will officiate.

He was born April 18, 1942 in Dallas, son of R.C. Mack and Mary Ann Barrington Mack. Mr. Mack was a truck driver and he was a Baptist.

He is survived by his mother of Greenville; a daughter, Margaret Mutnansky of Fort Polk, La.; a brother, Donald Mack of Greenville and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Douglas Mack.

Pallbearers are Dennis Cramer, Jerry Chastine, Frank Chastine, Jimmy Vaughn, Ray Reinheart and John Mutnansky.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lessie Morrow

FARMERSVILLE - Lessie Faye Morrow, 80, of Carrollton died Monday in a Carrollton medical center. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with John Morgan officiating.

Mrs. Morrow was born April 7, 1918, in Linden; the daughter of Virgil and Mary Womack Wallace. She was married to Rude C. Morrow Jr. on May 25, 1946, in Dallas. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are sons, Rudy Morrow of Carrollton, Lanny Morrow of Sachse, Randy Morrow of Lancaster and Barry Morrow of Rockwall; sisters, Christine Eubanks of Mabank, Francis Jones of Texarkana and Karri Jo Smith; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Shelda Riley

ROYSE CITY - Shelda Riley, 59, died Monday in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Royse City Chapel with Rev. Mack C. Scott Jr. officiating. Burial is in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Born June 6, 1939 in Yuba, Okla., she was the daughter of Abner R. and Aline Sikes Looney. She was a 33-year resident of Royse City, attended the Assembly of God Church and operated the Mobile Gas Station in Royse City with her husband for many years.

Mrs. Riley was a homemaker. Her hobbies were arts and crafts.

Surviving are her husband, James Riley of Royse City; daughters Brenda Kay Riley of Royse City and Melinda Sue Qualls of Chandler, Ariz.; son Kenneth James Riley of Plano; her mother of Royse City; a brother, Abner Looney Jr. of Bollsom and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Harold Dean Looney.

James Baggett Jr.

PARIS, Texas - James C. Baggett Jr., 75, of Windom died Sunday evening at McCuistion Regional Medical Center in Paris. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville. Rev. Earl Newsom will officiate.

Born Jan. 21, 1924 in Greenville, he was the son of James Coye and Lola Mattie Chumley Baggett. Mr. Baggett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired printer with the Dallas Morning News and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are three children, Gerald P. Baggett of Dallas, Karin White of Telephone and James G. Baggett of Anna; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His wife, Mary Ruth Muse Baggett, preceded him in death.

Memorials made be made to a favorite charity.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.

Geneva Compton

Funeral services for Geneva Compton, 77, of Greenville are at 1 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Boulter Jr. officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

She died Sunday at Briarcliff Health Center.

The daughter of Rad C. Cantrell and Nannie Stevenson, she was born Nov. 5, 1921 in Farmersville. She and Buddy Compton were married Dec. 24, 1951 in Greenville. She retired from the Hunt County Clerk's office.

Mrs. Compton was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a member of the Master Builders Sunday School class and Christian Women's Fellowship.

Surviving are her husband of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Jody Hughey of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Cantrell and sisters Rolene Stroup, Dorothy Oman and Willie Mae Bostick.

Pallbearers are Howard Winans, Bobby Moore, James Taggart, Larry Green, Jimmy Hamilton and Murray Pickens.

Grady Copeland

FARMERSVILLE - Grady W. Copeland, 76, of Princeton died Sunday in McKinney. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Rev. Stan Fike officiating. Burial is in Princeton Cemetery.

He was born in Farmersville on Sept. 9, 1922 to Harvey Dee Copeland and Pansy J. Kinnamon Copeland. On June 5, 1948 he married Iona Rickman. He served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Copeland worked for a heavy equipment company.

He is survived by his wife of Princeton; a daughter, Cathy Jackson of Farmersville; two sons, Danny Copeland and David Copeland, both of Princeton; a sister, Lucy Hutcherson of Mesquite; two brothers, Dick Copeland of Princeton and C.L. Copeland of Farmersville and nine grandchildren.

Mack Pierson

LEONARD - Funeral services for Mack A. Pierson, 87, of Celeste are at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Celeste with Rev. Bob Layman, Rev. James Ralson and Doug Campbell officiating. Burial is in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Whitewright.

He died Monday at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison.

Born Nov. 2, 1911 in Colbert, Okla., he was the son of William M. Pierson and Belle Harbor. He married Jo Willa Bradley on Oct. 17, 1934 in Whitewright. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Celeste.

Mr. Pierson was retired from the Katy Railroad.

Surviving are his wife of Celeste; a daughter, Martha Jo Campbell of Van Alstyne; son Mickey Pierson of Wagner; brothers Kelly Pierson of Pottsboro and Lyndal Pierson of Garland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Scott Campbell, Bradley Pierson, Doug Campbell, Andrew Gay, Doug Armstrong and Larry Rowell. Honorary pallbearers are Gaston Alexander and James Cagle.

Visitation is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard.

Doyle Box

COMMERCE - Funeral services for Doyle E. Box, 84, of Commerce were Sunday afternoon at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Rose and Rev. Bobby Tollison officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs.

Mr. Box died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce.

Born in Cumby on April 16, 1914, he was the son of Millard M. Box and Dessie O. Gillis. He married Willie Inez Moore in Commerce on Feb. 14, 1987.

He was a salesman for Sears, Roebuck and was an employee of Jones Funeral Home for more than 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cumby.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Box of Commerce; nieces, Mary Nell Martin of Tyler and Jimmie Sue Brumfield of Bossier City, La.; step-children, Jean Housewright of Quitman, Jimmie Nabers Johnson of Quitman, Bob Moore of Commerce and Pat Brewer of Pittsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mammie Hastings Box in 1986, and a brother, Harold Box.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Sullivan, Johnny Nabers, Ben Housewright, Gene Bagley, Truitt Bishop and Dick Walker. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Carpenter, Coy Carothers, Babe Romans, Paul Shields and the employees of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.

Mattie Davis

EMORY - Mattie Shedd Davis, 88, of Chandler died Saturday in the Chandler Nursing Center. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Shedd officiating. Burial is in the Emory City Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was born March 31, 1911, in Rains County; the daughter of John and Emma Coleman Shedd. She was married to Robert Davis on Nov. 17, 1928, in Ginger. She was a member of the Emory Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Rober Davis of Kemp; daughter, Jean Potts of Chandler; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 8, 1989.

Pallbearers are Geoffrey Potts, Jonathan Potts, Henry Potts, Joe Rogers, Wade Rasberry and Gerry Potts.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vernon Bell

WOLFE CITY - Graveside services for Vernon Arnold Bell, 86, of Wolfe City, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Mitchell officiating. He died Friday at a Dallas hospital.

Born in Hunt County on Nov. 24, 1912, he was the son of Bige and Mary Elizabeth Arnold Bell. He married Oreda Bell Timberlake, who preceeded him in death in 1980. He later married Pauline Atherton Painter, who preceded him in 1989. He was retired from a position with the City of Greenville Water Department.

He is survived by two daughters, Patsy Blake of Grand Prairie and Bobbie Hamilton of Greenville; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 until 6 p.m. today at R. W. Owens & Son Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Bibby

Funeral services for Ernest A. Bibby, 82, of Greenville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Burial will in Sunny Point Cemetery. He died Saturday at Briarcliff Health Center.

Born in Brashear on May 23, 1916, he was the son of Riley Bibby and Flora Sheppard. He married Marie Crumpton in Waco on Nov. 28, 1942. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a retired from Esco Manufacturing where he worked as an iron cutter. He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Bibby of Greenville; son Jerry Bibby and his wife Tina of Sapulpa, Okla.; daughter, Ryta Porter and her husband Bill of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Angie and Amy Bibby and Darren Porter; great-granddaughter, Kelly Porter; sisters, Arleta Ellis of Greenville, Dorothy Nell Fox of Dallas, Lorene Fenter of Point; Christine Hamilton of Dallas, and Aldene Lloyd of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Houston Bibby; a sister, Irene Helton; and grandsons Jason Scott Bibby and David William Porter.

Pallbearers include Jim Abbott, Dale Crumpton, Joe David Crumpton, Darren Porter, E. H. Glasscock and Bobby Lloyd.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thelma Grissom

COMMERCE - Graveside services for Thelma Louise Grissom, 73, of Commerce, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ladonia Cemetery under the direction of Pemberton Funeral Home with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating. She died Friday in Commerce.

Born in Ladonia on June 15, 1925, she was the daughter of Buck Grissom and Emma Lucus. She was a longtime resident of Fannin and Hunt Counties and was a high school graduate. She reared children in her home and was a charter member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Commerce since 1972.

She is survived by Godchildren, Danny and Micah Duncan and Trey and Shea Shaw, all of Commerce; sister-in-law Mable Grissom of Garland and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Grady Grissom.

Jewell Wilson

EMORY - Funeral services for Jewell Lee Wilson, 90, of Emory will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Prather officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Memories cemetery in Canton. She died Friday at a Sulphur Springs hospital.

Born in Van Zandt County on Sept. 30, 1908, she was the daughter of Henry Akin and Julia Hesston. She married Terry L. Wilson in Van Zandt County on July 2, 1927. She was a homemaker and a member of Emory Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons Odell Wilson of Emory, Carrel Wilson of Emory and Cozel Wilson of Hurst; brother James Akin of Dallas; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 15, 1990.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will include grandsons.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elise Bowers

WOLFE CITY - Elise Voss Bowers, 82, of Wolfe City died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City with Rev. D. Stanley Corcoran officiating. Burial will be in Laureland Cemetery in Dallas.

Born April 26, 1916 in Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of Harvey Allen Voss and Lela Bell Kyzer Voss. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Bowers was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Commerce.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Bowers of Merit and Patrick Bowers of Holly Lake Ranch; a brother, Harvey Voss of Arlington; a sister, Elizabeth Duck of Pasadena; 12 grandchildren, Kenney and Maureen Mueller of Fort Worth, Sabrina Mueller of Fort Worth, Larry and Suzanne Gill of Flower Mound, Gayla and Jay Bowers of Rockwall, Nathan Bowers of Garland, Lorrie and Karl Bowers of Lewisville, Karol Bowers of New Jersey, Michelle Bowers and Melisa Bowers of Dallas, Debbie and Dennis Sanders of Garland, Terry Sanders of Sulphur Springs and Linda and Lonnie Sanders of Ladonia and 22 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Abraham Metegar Bowers, preceded her in death in 1996.
