John Griffis

John Oliver Griffis of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clark Street Christian Church with Rev. W.D. Hines officiating. Burial will be in East Mount Cemetery.

The son of John and Maggie Gibbs Griffis, he was born May 23, 1912 in Greenville. He and Thelma Minor were married Aug. 4, 1930 in Greenville. He was a retired employee of the City of Greenville.

Mr. Griffis was a member of Clark Street Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; three sons, Dr. James Griffis of Dallas, Billie E. Griffis of Fremont, Calif. and Charles W. Griffis of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Thelma Joe Toney of Garland and Anita Fair of Greenville; a brother, Clarence Griffis of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Theresa McGennis of Chicago, Ill. and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

Deacon and trustees of Clark Street Christian Church and Lorenza Boldware are pallbearers.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Kelly

FARMERSVILLE - Lillie Mae Kelly, 73, of Farmersville, died Sunday at North Central Medical Center in McKinney. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Galloway Memorial Church in Farmersville with J.E. Ellis, superintendent, officiating. Burial is in Farmersville Memorial Cemetery.

She was born March 5, 1926 in Quitman to Mack Kelly and Louella McGee Kelly. She was a member of Galloway Memorial Church.

She is survived by daughters Willette Kelly of Farmersville and Lisa Kelly of Cedar Creek; sisters Rosie Lee Johnson of McKinney, Cleo Smith of Farmersville, Vivian McGill of Dallas, Pauline Bynum of Dallas and Gloria Bell Phelps of Farmersville; brothers Paul Kelly of Farmersville and Jeremiah Kelly of Dallas and five grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home.

Maggie E. Nalls

Maggie E. Nalls, 97, of the Wieland Community, died Saturday in Greenville. Services were Monday at Wieland Church of Christ with Delton Alexander and Rick Henslee officiating. Burial was in the Wieland Cemetery.

Mrs. Nalls was born on Sept. 14, 1902, in Hunt County to Will Norris and Ella Nix. She married Troy Henry Nalls on March 7, 1928, in Cash. She was a member of the Wieland Church of Christ.

Surviving are a son, Farrell Nalls of Greenville; a daughter, Ouida McKinney of Greenville; sisters Erna McCord and Fay Little of Greenville; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a granddaughter, Terry McKinney in 1996; a grandson, Kyle Nalls in 1990; a great-great-grandson, great-great-granddaughter, four sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers are Clyde Terry, Doyle Woodall, Richard Hogue, Justin Norris, Verdane Nalls and Don Angell.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Theda Roach

Theda Faye Roach, 77, of Celeste died Monday at Smith's Nursing Home in Wolfe City. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Henslee officiating. Burial is in Celeste Cemetery.

Born in Farmersville on Nov. 9, 1921, she was the daughter of V.E. and Gladys Lucille Mize Giles. On Aug. 20, 1941 she married Howard Lynn Roach in Oklahoma.

Mrs. Roach was retired from Love's Factory in Celeste, Haggar's Pant Factory in Greenville and Gilbert's Nursing Home in Leonard. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Surviving are a son, Howard "Bud" Roach Jr. and wife Cecelia Compton Roach of Whitewright; daughters Sarah Roach Swindell and husband Jerry of Celeste and Alice Roach Garcia and husband John of Celeste; son-in-law David W. Pruitt of Midland; a brother, Fred Giles of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren David Swindell of Sherman, Jennifer and Kevin Roach of Whitewright, Jeffrey Garcia, John Allen Garcia and Shelly Swindell of Celeste, Jana Pruitt Shipp, John David Shipp and Charles Tyler Shipp of Midland and grandchildren by marriage Tara White Garcia of Celeste and Matt Shipp of Midland; great-grandchildren Jeffrey Blake Garcia of Celeste and Aaron Patrick Shipp of Midland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 16, 1976, brothers V.J. and Tom Giles; sister Zelleva Giles Abernathy Smith and daughter, Patricia Ann Roach Pruitt in 1978.

Pallbearers will be grandsons David Swindell, Jeffrey Garcia, Kevin Roach, Charles Tyler Pruitt and John Allen Garcia and Ron Clinton and Melvin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben McCorstin, Bill Barnard, Richard Lyday, Doug Milton and Mike Weatherley.

Memorials may be made to the Celeste High School Library, National Paralysis Foundation (Spinal Victory) 16415 Addison Road, Suite 550, Dallas, 75248, Pat Roach Pruitt Memorial Scholarship Fund, 500 West Wall Street,Suite 400, Midland, 79702, Vista Care Family Hospice, 2824 Terrell Road, Suite 403, Greenville, 75402 or a charity of choice.

Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lester Flippo

QUINLAN - Lester Flippo, 75, of Quinlan died Sunday morning in Greenville. Services are at 2 p.m. today at Quinlan Church of Christ with Robert Jackson officiating.

Mr. Flippo was born in Blossom on May 25, 1924, to Lester N. and Minnie Mae Smith Flippo. He married Margaret Jo Lackey on May 10, 1947, in Borger. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired Church of Christ minister.

Surviving are daughters Janie Hoag of Quinlan, Donna Martin of Hot Springs, Ark. and Shirley Flippo of Moss, Tenn.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Johnny Flippo and a granddaugther, Charisty Sanders.

Memorial may be made to the Quinlan Church of Christ.

R.L. Foster

R.L. Foster, 82, of Celeste, died Saturday in Dallas. Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Jeff Fisher officiating. Burial is in Bethel Cemetery.

He was born in Hunt County on Nov. 3, 1917, to Henry A. and Martha Bill Green Foster. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

Surviving are a brother, H.C. Foster of Merit, and a sister, Dorothy Drennan of Rowlett. He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Pallbearers are Carrell Gene "Buddy" Foster, Robert "Terry" Allen, Greg Morris, Robert Foster, David Brasher and Paul Owens.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today

Maggie E. Nalls

Maggie E. Nalls, 97, of the Wieland Community, died Saturday in Greenville. Services are at 2 p.m. today at Wieland Church of Christ with Delton Alexander and Rick Henslee officiating. Burial is in the Wieland Cemetery.

Gracie Sorrells

Gracie LeeAnn O'Neill Sorrells died Sunday in Greenville. Services are at the Lone Oak Methodist Church at noon Wednesday with Rev. Jacqueline Harmon officiating. Burial is at 3 p.m. in Grove Hill in Dallas .

She was born to Homer and Alice Tony Ward on Jan. 7, 1913, in Havannah, Ark. She was a Methodist and a seamstress.

Surviving are a son, Robert Vernon O'Neill Jr. of Dallas; two daughters, Abla Rae Freeman and Dorothy Miller of Lone Oak; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Vernon O'Neill and Floyd D. Sorrells; a daughter, Joan Anne O'Neill; three sons, Orbie Gene O'Neill, John O'Neill and James Edward O'Neill; three brothers, Ed Ward, Homer Ward and Otho "Bud" Ward; two sisters, Mable Bean Pree and Inez Duncan.

Pallbearers are Les Craven, Gerry Medcalf, Jimmy O'Neill, Don Files, John O'Neill Jr., and Arthur O'Neill.

Bartley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Hollon

ROYSE CITY - James Andrew Hollon, 85, of Royse City died Friday in Rowlett. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Royse City Chapel.

Mr. Hollon was born May 22, 1914, in Dallas to Andrew and Lilly Christian Hollon. He was a farmer and long time resident of Royse City.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hollon of Royse City; sons Jack Andrew Hollon of Wimberly, Jerry Richard Hollon and wife Sandi of Lake Kiowa, Charles Michael Hollon and wife Lynda of Pecos; sister Kathleen Fisher of Arlington; grandchildren Suzanne Hollon, Matthew Hollon and Andy Hollon, all of Austin, Kim Early of Frisco, Bret Hollon of Roundrock, Lesley Hollon of Fort Worth, Tome Lane of Louisiana; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lorena Fry

LADONIA - Lorena Belle (Palmer) Fry, 80, of Ladonia died Thursday in her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Ladonia with Rev. Steven Bell officiating. Burial will be in Ladonia Cemetery.

Mrs. Fry was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Crystal Springs, Miss., to Charles Watkins Palmer and Anna Sharp Palmer. She married Ben Ed Fry Sept. 22, 1945, in Norfolk, Va.

She served in the United States Navy in World War II and was a Laboratory Technician. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Ladonia.

Survivors include her husband, of Ladonia; daughters Fran Harris of Dallas, Susan Epstein of Southlake and Paula Nelson of Dallas; sisters Katherine Barron and Mary Evans, both of Crystal Springs, Miss.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Delta Funeral Home of Ladonia.

Terry Stewart

Terry Douglas Stewart, 61, of Greenville died Friday in his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Gene Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.

He was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Dallas to James Frank Stewart and Emily Jewel Straun. He married Marcia Barnes on Nov. 19, 1998, in Greenville.

Mr. Stewart was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a maintenance supervisor at Pine Mountain and a member of the Southwood Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Greenville, son Greg Stewart of Florida, daughters Panda LaRae Sealy and Carol NiKole Sealy, both of Houston, three grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1998 and his mother in 1992.

Cousins will be pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jerry Finch

COMMERCE - Jerry Wayne Finch, 57, of Ferris, died Wednesday in Dallas. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Sulphur Springs.

Born July 22, 1942 in Cuthand, Red River County, he was the son of James Lee Finch and Mary Mae Gibson. On Dec. 20, 1958 he married Sue Ragland in Durant, Okla. Mr. Finch was self-employed, operating a freight business.

Surviving are his wife of Ferris; son and daughter-in-law David Wayne and Laura Finch of Hubbard; son Ernest Michael Finch of Ferris; daughter and son-in-law Edward and Gwendolyn Finch Watts of Commerce; brother and sister-in-law James V. and Nell Finch of Kaufman; 14 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mildred Sprinkle

Mildred L. Sprinkle, 81, of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. A graveside service is at 2 p.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park with Avon Chandler officiating.

Daughter of John Foley and Elizabeth Jackson Foley, she was born July 16, 1918 in Celeste. She married Chandler Sprinkle on June 27, 1937 in Greenville. She retired from Haggar where she worked as a floor lady. Mrs. Sprinkle was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Her husband and several nieces and nephews survive.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Jack Sprinkle, Don Sprinkle, Sammy Foley, Phil Sprinkle, Don Goen and Perry Goen.

Lola Griffin

Funeral services for Lola Mae Griffin of Merit are at 1 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lois Cooper officiating. Burial is in Merit Cemetery.

Mrs. Griffin died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

Born in Attalia, Ala. on March 21, 1901, she was the daughter of William J. Ferguson and Belle Morton Ferguson. She married Charles E. Griffin on Feb. 2, 1919 in Merit. She was a member of Merit Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons Charles Griffin Jr. of Dallas and Jack Griffin of Farmersville; daughters Nita Doan of Merit, Glenda Rector of Wagner and Linda Ivy of Floyd; a sister, Flora Logan of Deborgia, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; a daughter, Jean Spradling and grandson Kevin Landrum.

Pallbearers are Buck McDonald, Jim Doan, Rick Doan, Randy Glasscock, Glenn Landrum, Steve Griffin and Michael English.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of choice.

James Lee

James Henry "Bud" Lee of Neylandville died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Bethel CME Church in Neylandville with Rev. Fredrick Thompson officiating. Burial is in St. Paul Cemetery.

The son of Albert and Ida Mae Fry Lee, he was born June 12,1929 in Neylandville. He and Carolyn Graham were married in Hunt County. Mr. Lee was a retired construction worker. He was a Methodist.

Surviving are his wife of Neylandville; three sons, James Lee of Salt Lake City, Utah, Albert Lee of Mount Vernon and James Nelson of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Pamela Perdahm of Los Angeles, Calif. and Shirley Nelson of Redwood City, Calif.; seven brothers, Lenel Lee and Clemon Lee of Neylandville, James Martin of Greenville; Leon Lee, Harlon Lee, Lawrence Lee and Morris Lee, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; four sisters, Lois Callagan of Neylandville, Gloria Jean Pippin and Erma Joyce Graham of Los Angeles, Calif. and Neva Martin of Greenville and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Pallbearers are Lenel Lee, Harlon Lee, Leon Lee, Lawrence Lee, Clemon Lee and Morris Lee.

James Smith

FARMERSVILLE - James Samuel Smith, 52, of Farmersville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Funeral services are at First Baptist Church in Farmersville with Rev. Robert Hasley officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Born April 8, 1947 in Farmersville, he was the son of Miles V. Smith and Marie Cecil Smith. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Smith was a printer at Cello Wrap.

He is survived by a daughter, Kay Smith of Farmersville; son Forest Smith of San Diego, Calif.; his mother of Farmersville; sisters Betty Cantrell of Blue Ridge, Carolyn McTee of Oklahoma City, Okla., Luvada Johnston of Dallas and Josephine Halliburton of Abilene; two brothers, Gerald Smith of Plano and Stephen Smith of Dallas and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Farmersville V.F.W.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville.
