Steven Taber

COMMERCE ­ Steven Clifton Taber, 49, of Brownsboro died Monday in Brownsboro. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Deteau officiating.

Mr. Taber was born June 1, 1950, in Dallas; the son of James and JoAnn Galloway Taber. A former Greenville resident, he was an LCDC, GOGC dual diagnosis counselor with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa Taber, of Brownsboro; children, Jamilyn Hunt of Cumby and Brazos Taber of Roxton; stepchildren, Ryan Campos and Teresa Campos, both of Brownsboro; two grandchildren; sister, Lori Sparks of Kennewick, Wash. and brother, Jimmy Taber.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Armstrong

Margaret Stoker Armstrong of Greenville died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville following a lengthy illness. There is a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Home in Dallas.

She was born Aug. 29, 1919.

Surviving are Lisa, Will, Caleb and Evan Etheridge of Celeste; Ann, Steve and Gabriel Hughes of Dallas and Helen and Rueben Keck of Wichita Falls.

Rachel Giles

WOLFE CITY ­ Rachel Annette Dawson Giles, 35, of Fairlie died suddenly Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Tadlock officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 23, 1963 in Wolfe City to Granville Dawson and Nancy Jo Moon. She married Dale Giles and was a housewife. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Giles is survived by her husband; four sons, Cody Giles, Justin Dawson, Jason Dawson and Grant Dawson, all of Fairlie; a daughter, Amber Giles of Fairlie; her father and stepmother, Granville and Rosie Dawson of Farmersville; her mother and stepfather, Nancy Jo and Robert Apple of Greenville; three brothers, James Dawson of Honey Grove and David Dawson and Gene Dawson of Wolfe City; and five sisters, Vickie Townsend and Cynthia Lowery of Wolfe City, Reba Dawson of Bonham, Loretta Myers of Greenville and Jody Apple of Mockville, N.C. and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers are James Dawson, David Dawson, Gene Dawson, Tammy Giles, Jamy Giles and Gary Giles.

Gary Powell

EMORY ­ Gary L. Powell, 56, of Point died Monday in an auto accident near Point. No services are planned.

The son of Joe L. and Mary Still Powell, he was born Nov. 26, 1942 in Lincoln, Ark.

Mr. Powell was a horse trainer and a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife, Darla Powell of Point and sons Casey Lynn Powell of North Carolina and Hoyt-John Powell of Virginia.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Ross

CADDO MILLS ­ Vera Mae Ross, 82, of Fort Worth died Tuesday in Hurst following a long illness. Funeral Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Paradise Cemetery.

Born in Caddo Mills, she was the daughter of Ivy Lee Ross and Jenetta Ogle Williams Ross.

Surviving are brothers Charlie Allen Ross of Fort Worth and Ivy Lee Ross of Canton and sisters Helen Jameson of Colony and Barbara Believeau of San Jose, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Lee Ross, in 1963 and a sister, Bonnie Copeland.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Emmet Steele

LEONARD ­ A funeral service for Emmet Steele, 76, of Leonard is at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Casey Ingold and Charles Wrenn officiating. Burial is in Burns Cemetery.

Mr. Steele died Monday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.

He was born July 4, 1923 in the Valley Creek Community to William A. Steele and Susan Grace Tucker Steele. He married Winnie Crawford on June 28, 1942 in Leonard.

Mr. Steele was a member of the Valley Creek Baptist Church. He worked in road construction for 30 years and was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife of Leonard; daughter, Ann Jackson of Gober; son, Ray Steele of Sherman; brother Billy J. Steele of Valley Creek; sister Maurine Webb of Rowlett; four grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Steven Taber

Pallbearers are Randy Ripley, Jason Thomas, Jake Thomas, Stuart Thomas, Mike Eldridge and Ricky Belcher. Honorary pallbearers are Lyndell Childers and Billy Eldridge.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Georgia Earvin

Georgia Mae Earvin of Greenville died Friday at Greenville Rehab Center. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Elem Baptist Church with Rodney Hood officiating. Burial is in East Mount Cemetery.

Born in Waskom on March 6, 1913, she was the daughter of Charlie and Katie Washington. She married Rayfield Earvin in Deberry in 1930.

Mrs. Earvin was employed as a cook. She was a member of Mount Elem Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Ernestine Williams and Charlie Mae Hawkins of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a son, and brothers and sisters.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rachel Giles

Pallbearers are James Dawson, David Dawson, Gene Dawson, Tammy Giles, Jamy Giles and Ryan Flud.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Nettles

HOUSTON ­ William James Nettles, 88, of Houston, died Sunday after a short battle with cancer. Funeral services are at noon Wednesday in the Family Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

He was born in Caddo Mills on Nov. 14, 1910. Mr. Nettles was a World War II veteran serving from 1942 to 1946 and had three years' prior service in the U.S. Army. He retired from Coca-Cola after 35 years' service.

Surviving are sons Michael Lee Nettles and William James Nettles Jr.; a daughter, Lou Dawson; brothers George C. Nettles of Dallas and Ben P. Nettles of Fort Worth and grandchildren.

His wife of 34 years, Winifred Wilks Nettles, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joe Wyatt

FARMERSVILLE ­ Joe Russell Wyatt, 83, of Farmersville died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a memorial service at 3 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel. Mac LeFan will officiate.

He was born Jan. 4, 1916 in Princeton to William and Mary Morrow Wyatt.

Surviving are daughters,Janis McGee of Frisco and Doris Ann Horton of Farmersville, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of choice.

L.C. Clark

L.C. Clark, 66, of Greenville died Friday in Greenville. Funeral services are at noon Tuesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. John Ellis officiating. Burial is in Farmersville Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Clark was born April 21, 1933, in Mineola; the son of Isiah and Luverter Vaughn Clark. He married Charlie Ruth Mondy on June 6, 1953.

He was a construction worker and a veteran. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Farmersville.

Surviving are his wife of Farmersville; mother of Mineola; sons, Larry Clark of Mount Pleasant, Bobby Clark of Allen, Robert Clark and Doniver Clark, both of Richardson, and Ricky Clark and Dan Clark, both of Farmersville; daughters, Brenda Jones, Judy Clark, Evelyn Thomas and Jan Clark, all of Farmersville; brothers, James Clark and Odessa Clark, both of Dallas, Cornelius Clark of Cedar Hill, Rev. William Clark of Greenville, R.A. Clark of Jasper, Albert Clark of Garland and Lawrence Clark of Mississippi; sisters, Bessie Shaw, Inez David and Mary Perkins, all of Dallas and Hattie Kelly of Farmersville; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Chris Simon, L.A. Johnson, James Brooks, Freddie Pierce, David Brewer and Carlos Mondy.

Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church, 3907 Lee.

Vera Nichols

SULPHUR SPRINGS ­ Vera Nichols, 81, of Como died Saturday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Services are today at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. David Burns officiating. Burial is in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Nichols was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Hopkins County to Robert and Essie Burns Meeks. She was married to Wren Nichols on July 15, 1939 in Pickton. She was a member of the Como Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of Como; daughter, Janice Wilkinson of Wolfe City; son, J.W. Nichols of Sulphur Springs; brother, Carroll Meeks of Como; sister, Lorine Nichols of Sulphur Springs; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Joe Wilkinson, John Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, Randy Walding, Johnny Nichols and David Wisdom.

Lela Payne

WOLFE CITY ­ Lela Payne, 94, of Wolfe City died Sunday in Smith Nuring Home . Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today at Webb Hill Cemetery with Henry Edgeington officiating.

Miss Payne was born March 29, 1905, in Wolfe City; the daughter of Frank and Lottie Morman Payne. She was a foster mother and a seamstress with Whitemore Manufacturing. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Celeste.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Helen Payne of Dallas; sister-in-law, Verdis Payne of Wolfe City and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Frank Payne, Roy Payne and Herschel Payne; and two sisters, Hester Payne and Nona Spradling.

Bunn Turner

WOLFE CITY ­ Bunn Turner, 88, of Commerce died Sunday in Sulphur Springs. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home with Dr. C.E. Colton, Dr. Bobby Tollison and Bill Hill officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mr. Turner was born Dec. 9, 1910, in the Aberfoyle community; the son of John and Beulah Spradling Turner. He married Iona Taylor on Oct. 14, 1933 in Commerce.

Mr. Turner was a retired sheet metal fabricator and a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife of Commerce, 13 nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers are Orville Pate, Doug Miller, Roy Dell Barker, Otis Horton, C.W. Durrett and W.D. Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Ambassadors Sunday School class.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mark Bedford

Funeral services for Mark Alan Bedford, 19, of Greenville, will be at 4 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. James Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Etter Lake Cemetery. He died Friday at his residence.

Born in Big Spring on Nov. 20, 1979, he was the son of Donald Alan Bedford and Eva Denise Baldridge. He was a student and a member of North Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Don Bedford of Odessa and Denise Benson of Greenville; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Helen Bedford of Odessa; three uncles, six aunts and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents.

Pallbearers include Kenneth Noble, James Ray, Eric Stover, Jerry Penny, Matthew Baldridge, John Baldridge, Jr. Baldridge and George Harwood.

Lola Courtney

Graveside services for Mrs. Lola Pearl Courtney, 98, of Greenville, will be 4 p.m. Monday at East Mount Cemetery with Dr. Raymond A. Boulter Jr. officiating. She died Saturday at Briarcliff Health Center.

Born in Greenville on May 10, 1901, she was the daughter of Jimmy Hillyard Brown and Abbie Lena Montgomery Brown. She married Henry Carter Courtney on June 23, 1923. She was retired from retail sales and was a member of Central Christian Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Billie Carroll and Helen Harrison Courtney of Fairfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Harry Cross of Greenville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965, one son, one brother and one sister.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until noon Monday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church or Christian Women's Fellowship.

Artie Erwin

Funeral services for Artie M. McBroom Erwin, 85, of Greenville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Melvin Ray and Jeff Spindle officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. She died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

Born in Wieland on April 19, 1914, she was the daughter of Robert L and Maude M. Hawkins McBroom. She married Loys "Frosty" Erwin on Feb. 5, 1932. She and her husband owned and operated Frosty Erwin's Used Furniture. She was a Baptist and a member of Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty English of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Frank Spindle of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Cathy English, Jeff Spindle, Bill Hannon and Cara Joy Cannon.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 28, 1988; two sisters, Blanche Morrow and Evelyn McBroom and two brothers, George Leslie McBroom and R. I. McBroom Jr.

Pallbearers include Mark Morrow, Jack Morrow, Joe Williams, Bill Hannon, Joey Peters and Kenneth Peters.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
