CHARLES A. COCKS

MISSION — Charles A. Cocks, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at McAllen Heart Hospital.

Born in Madison County, Tenn., Mr. Cocks had lived in Mission for 15 years. He was an automotive mechanic for Ford Motor Co. for 31 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, earning the rank of sergeant. Mr. Cocks had been a volunteer with the Valley Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics organization for 11 years.

Survivors include his wife, Henri Ella Cocks of Mission; two sons, Charles Wayne Cocks of Aurora, Ill., and Kenneth Newton Cocks of Bartlet, Ill.; three brothers, Fulton Cocks of Sweetsprings, Ga., William E. Cocks of Cordova, Tenn., and Thomas Dennis Cocks of Aurora, Ill.; one sister, Sara Brown of Alabaster, Ala.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cocks will receive visitors at Virgil Wilson Mortuary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999.

ROBERT "BOB" O. GROSS

McALLEN — Robert "Bob" O. Gross, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999. at his home. Bob was born in Swea City, Iowa, and had lived in McAllen for 20 years. He had been a car salesman.

As a pilot, Mr. Gross had won several awards in flying. He had more than 10,000 flying hours and was a terrific flying instructor. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association. He enjoyed his God, his family, flying and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gross of McAllen; son, Bill Gross of Mission; granddaughter, Cynthia Mae Stewart of Iowa Falls, Iowa; grandson, David Allen Gross of San Diego, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Olive Gross, in 1996. Her service was entrusted to the care of Kreidler Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Kreidler Funeral Home on North 10th Street. The Rev. Jarrell Sharp of St. Mark United Methodist Church will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4316 N. 10th St., Suite 200, McAllen, Texas 78504.

Services were entrusted to the care of Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas.

AVIS BECKER

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Avis Becker died at the Woodhaven Assistant Living Facility in Williamsburg, Va., on Jan. 22, 1999. She was 90 years old.

Mrs. Becker was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 7, 1908. She was a businesswoman in Edinburg for many years and retired to Williamsburg, Va., in 1980.

She is survived by her sister, Ethel Lahiff of Cleveland, Ohio; her brother, Leonard Hendy, also of Cleveland; two nieces, Avis Calabro and Linda Lahiff; and a nephew, Gerald Schwartz of Cleveland.

A memorial service was arranged by a dear close friend, Flora Garcia Castillo, at Roselawn Cemetery and Mausoleum at 1201 S. Main St. in McAllen, inside the Mausoleum, on Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at 9:30 a.m.

Mrs. Becker was cremated, so an urn with her ashes and a couple of pictures and personal items will be on display at the memorial service.

BETTY JEAN PALUSKA

HOUSTON — Betty Jean Paluska, beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend passed into God’s hands on Monday, Feb. 8, 1999. She was born on Feb. 20, 1921 and is joined in heaven with her parents and daughters, Suzanne and Beth Anne.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Richard; children, Charlotte Gould, Douglas, Richard, Alan and Michael Paluska, and their families; sisters, Neta Norman and Frances Moritz; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. All who knew her were touched by her love, kindness and heart of gold. We all love you mom and will miss you very much.

Visitation and vigil service were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Elder officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. LEE ROY JACKSON

ALAMO — Mr. Lee Roy Jackson, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. He was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Donna, and was a lifetime resident until he moved to Alamo in 1992. Mr. Jackson was a businessman. He owned and operated Jackson’s 281 from 1961 until his retirement in 1992. He married his wife, Esperanza Espinoza Jackson, in 1960, in Knox City, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Esperanza Jackson of Alamo; two daughters, Nancy Jackson of Austin and Brenda Lee (Rene) Alvarez of Edinburg; his brothers, Edward Lee (Janie) Jackson of Austin and Daniel (Diana) Jackson Jr. of Donna; his sister, Oralia (Eddie) Castillo of McAllen; and his two granddaughters, Amanda Lee Alvarez and Alyssa Renee Alvarez, both of Edinburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Jackson Sr., in 1968; mother, Sofia Bowie Jackson, in 1957; and his brother, Jesse Jackson, in 1988.

A religious service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at the San Pablo Methodist Church, 1002 W. Birch, Alamo. Officiating will be Pastor Carlos Zamora. Burial will follow at the Donna City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Ramirez, Edward Jackson Jr., Jesse Lee Jackson, Joe Lee Jackson, Jaime Jackson, Nathaniel Jackson and Kevin Avendano.

EMIL EUGEN SPRANZ

WESLACO — Emil Eugen Spranz, 95, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco.

He was born to Emil Eugen and Elise Fisher Spranz in Reutlingen, Germany on May 22, 1903. He completed his education in 1920, left Germany, and after working as a merchant seaman, arrived in South America. He spent several years working and traveling, mostly by foot, throughout South America and then worked in the Oilfields of Tampico, Mexico. Along the way he acquired an excellent command of Spanish.

In the late 1920s he arrived in New York City, where he met Anna B. Fuerner, who also had emigrated from Germany. They were married on Nov. 3, 1928, and remained in New York until 1954, when they moved to the Rio Grande Valley. They built a home in Alamo and, after Anna’s death on May 11, 1987, Emil moved to McAllen, where he remained until February 1997, when he became a resident of Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco. He spent almost two years there, and made many new friends with whom he conversed in Spanish, English and even German, and where he was fortunate to find one especially dear friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen and her husband, S.L. Sharps, of Laramie, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Andrea, Daniel, Robert and Nancy; Bob Stewart, a very good friend in McAllen; and several relatives in Germany.

CIPRIANA S. SANDOVAL

MISSION — Cipriana S. Sandoval, 73, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Columbia Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Feliberto and Teresa Sepulveda.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Sandoval of Mission; one son, Noe Sandoval of Mission; one daughter, Sylvia (Ricardo) Ramos of Mission; three brothers, Susano, Napoleon and Pedro Sepulveda, all of Rio Grande City; three sisters, Guadalupe S. Sanchez, Ramona Vasquez and Rebecca Sepulveda, all of Rio Grande City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Los Garza Cemetery in Rio Grande City.

ABEL CANTU SR.

PALMVIEW — Abel Cantu Sr., 76, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at his residence in Palmview. Mr. Cantu served during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He served in northern France, Ardennes Rhineland, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Eame Campaign Medal, Four Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Two Purple Hearts, Distinguished Unit Badge and WWII Victory Medal. He retired fron Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio after 35 years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Enrique Cantu and Fred Cantu.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Espetacion Acevedo Cantu of Palmview; one son, Abel Cantu Jr. of Houston; one daughter, Christela Cantu Saenz (Manuel)of Palmview; two grandchildren, Molly Marie Saenz and Abel Lee Saenz; three brothers, Eduardo Cantu Jr. of Donna, Albert (Delia) Cantu of McAllen, and Lee (Angelica) Cantu of California; and three sisters, Delia (Cesar) Montelongo and Elodia (Oscar) Yanez, both of Donna, and Hortencia (Dick) Burkle of Michigan.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Flores Chapel. Funeral Mass was said at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Donna. Burial followed at Donna Cemetery. Flores Funeral Home of Mission was in charge of arrangements.

DANIEL JAVIER TREVIÑO

EDINBURG — Daniel Javier Treviño, 49, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Jesus and Mary Nieto. He had a short battle with cancer. He was originally from Chicago.

Born Dec. 3, 1949, he retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service as a master sergeant.

He is survived by his children, Caresa Treviño Viuya, Angela Treviño and Frank Treviño, all of Edinburg; his parents, Francisco and Maria Treviño of Nerwyn, Ill.; his siblings, Mary (Jesus) Nieto of Edinburg, Julia (Javier) Palos of Berwyn, Ill., Nora (Alan) Szymczak of Plainfield, Ill., Frank (Maria Elena) of Berwyn, Ill., Margaret Ermalowicz, also of Berwyn, Ill., and Delilah (Mike) Icenogle of Beardstown, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Treviño, in 1980.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, at Trinity Worship Center in Pharr, with Pastor Edward R. Haspany officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. VFW Post No. 8788 of McAllen will conduct military honors.

HECTOR CARRIZALES

SEGUIN — Hector Carrizales, 64, of Seguin, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Maria Carrizales of Seguin; mother, Hercelia Carrizales of Mission; daughters, Cindy Maldonado and husband, Sam, of Missouri, City, Texas, and Yoli Carrizales of San Antonio; five sisters, Ada Rocha of Seguin, Sylvia Carrizales of Rockport, Ill., Naomi Garza of Sugarland, Rachael Alaniz of Edinburg, and Mela Carrizales of Mission; one brother, Enrique Carrizales III of Arlington; and two grandchildren, Damian and Jeremy Maldonado of Missouri City. Mr. Carrizales was preceded in death by his father, Enrique Carrizales; grandson, Sammy Maldonado IV; two brothers, Enrique Carrizales Jr. and Fausto Carrizales; and one sister, Alicia Carrizales.

Visitation began Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary Chapel. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. at La Trinidad Methodist Church in Seguin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, at La Trinidad Methodist Church with the Rev. Teresa Peña officiating. Burial will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.

ALEJANDRO DIAZ JR.

DONNA — Alejandro Diaz Jr., 32, died after a short illness on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born Sept. 4, 1966, in McAllen.

He is survived by his parents, Alejandro and Maria Angelica Diaz; two brothers, Fabricio and Fernando Diaz; maternal grandparents, Eutimio and Juana Macias; uncles, Javier and Raul Macias; aunts, Natividad and Josefina Ocanas, and Gloria Macias; and numerous cousins.

Alex will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 11, 1999, with a 7 p.m. rosary. Chapel service will be held at 10 a.m Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Sagmiller Vaughan Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Val Verde Cemetery in Donna.

Services are being directed by Sagmiller Vaughan Funeral Home in Donna.

GRACE LOBERT AGAN

LAGO VISTA — Grace Lobert Agan, 79, of Lago Vista, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Angleton-Danbury Hospital in Angleton.

Mrs. Agan was born in Walters, Okla. on Aug. 1, 1919, and was a Lago Vista resident for 20 years after previously living in Donna for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Lonnie B. Agan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam Ranck and husband, John of Arlington, and Candy Adams and husband, Michael of Angleton; three grandchildren, Kendra Estrada, Brittny Cellars and Loni Adams; and one great-grandson, Drew Estrada.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Beck Funeral Home Chapel in Cedar Park, Texas, with burial today, Feb. 11, 1999, at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth.

OSCAR CUEVAS Sr.

EDINBURG — Oscar Cuevas Sr., 64, went to be with our Lord Feb. 13, 1999.
Mr. Cuevas was ordained a Permanent Deacon in May 1990. He served the parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Deacon Cuevas also served in the U.S. Army, and retired from American National Life Insurance after 24 years. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community of Edinburg; as well as all the lives he touched.
Deacon Cuevas was preceded in death by his spouse, Ernestina Cuevas in August 1999. He is survived by his children, Diana (Ron) Alaniz of Edinburg, Oscar (Cindy) Cuevas Jr. of California; his father, Pedro Cuevas; siblings, Corina (John) Clark, Ramiro (La Dean) Cuevas, Maria Elia (Jose Jesus) Ramirez, Abdiel (Rosario) Cuevas, Rachel (Manuel) Hernandez, and Nora (James) Bowell; and his grandchildren, Ronaldo Alaniz, Jr., David Eric Alaniz, James Oscar Cuevas, Ana Cuevas, and Peter Robert Cuevas.
Visitation for Deacon Cuevas will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A holy rosary will follow at 7 p.m. that same evening (Monday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.

MISSION – Herminio Pena, 74, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 1999 at Mission Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1924 in Cruillas, Tamps., Mexico.
Mr. Pena is survived by his wife, Julia Pena of Mission; three sons, Ambrocio Pena of Mission, Herminio Pena Jr. of Minneapolis, MN, and Sergio Pena of St. Paul, MN; seven daughters, Virginia Davila, Maria H. Aguilar, Maria Minerva Valdez and Frances Martinez, all of Mission, Celia Aguirre and Nora Alicia Castillo, both of McAllen and Olivia Rocio of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Jose Pena and Domingo Pena, both of Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico; and a sister, Odilia Pena of Tamaulipas, Mexico; 29 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitations will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a rosary at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen. Chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.

NASSARRO PALOMARES

MISSION – Nassarro Palomares, 79, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his residence. He was born on July 28, 1919, in Doctor Cos., Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Mr. Palomares is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Palomares of Mission; three brothers, Eliso, Juan and Humberto Palomares, all of Nuevo Leon, Mexico; and a sister, Maria Luisa Palomares of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Funeral service for Mr. Palomares will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.

BEATRIZ LOPEZ
MISSION — Beatriz Lopez, 88, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Mission Hospital. Born in Mexico, Mrs. Lopez was a housewife.
Mrs. Lopez is survived by her sons, Salvador Lopez of Mexico, Ruben Lopez of Oregon, Francisco Lopez, Rafael Lopez, Rigoberto Lopez and Alvaro Lopez, all of Mission, Guillermo Lopez of Edinburg; and daughters, Marina Thatcher of McAllen, Asela Garza of Lubbock, and Martha Tagle of Mission; 36 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lopez was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Lopez Jr. and her husband, Daniel Lopez Sr.
Viewing and visitation for Mrs. Lopez will begin today, Feb. 23, 1999 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen.

MODESTINA GIORGIUTTI GUAJARDO

RIO GRANDE CITY — Modestina Giorgiutti Guajardo was born and raised in Cividale Del Friuli, Italy, and came to the United States in 1947, at the age of 19.
Modestina is preceded in death by her father, Francesco Giorgiutti; mother, Maria Di Giusto Giorgiutti; sister, Gabriela Fuccaro; and a brother, Roberto Giorgiutti. She is survived by a brother, Italo Giorgiutti; nieces, nephews and cousins in Italy; four sons, Victor Guajardo, Jorge (Guadalupe) Guajardo, Alonzo Guajardo, Roberto (Ester) Guajardo; a daughter, Mary Guajardo Gonzalez; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held at 2 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999 at Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City. Viewing will continue at 1 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999. Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 1999 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial followed at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City.

JESUS CALTZONTZINT
PHARR — Jesus Caltzontzint, 85, passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at McAllen Medical Center. He is survived by two sons, Jesus Caltzontzint of Edinburg, Ruiz Arnoldo Caltzontzint of Pearland, Texas; three daughters, Sylvia Dalia Herrera of San Antonio, Linda Gloria Caltzontzint of Pharr; one sister, Crecenciana Romero of Pharr; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held today, Feb. 23, 1999, at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Pharr noon. with burial to follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pharr.

HARVEY BRUNS
ALAMO — Harvey Bruns, 68, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999 of an apparent heart attack, while he was fishing at the Port Mansfield, Texas, cut. An avid hunter and fisherman, he traveled around the world and won numerous tournaments and awards. He was a native of Weser, Goliad County, Texas.
Mr. Bruns grew up in Kerrville, Texas, and attended Tivy High School, from which he graduated in 1949. He attended Schreiner College and graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1954 with a B.S. degree in education. He was inducted into the Hall of Honor at SWT and was a founder and regular contributor to the SWT Athletic Scholarship Foundation. He was recruited to play pro football and pro baseball, but due to an injury could not play. Mr. Bruns was the head football coach and athletic director at Mission High School from 1956 to 1960. He also belonged to the Alamo Lions Club and was a past president and was active in the Texas Numismatic Association.
Mr. Bruns started flea markets as we know them in the Valley in the early 60's. He was the owner and operator of the All Valley Flea Market.
Survivors include two sons, Allen W. Bruns of San Francisco, CA, and Kevin Bruns of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Natalie Bruns of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters, Dani Bruns and Kasi Bruns, both of Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dana Bruns of Austin, Texas; his mother, Caroline Bruns of Hawkins, Texas; two sisters, Mary Nell Kemper of Austin, Texas, and Sarah Baker of Hawkins, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be 9-8 p.m. today, Feb. 23, 1999 at Kreidler Funeral Home on North 10th Street in McAllen, Texas. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday; Feb. 24, 1999, at Kreidler Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville, Texas.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Casa Sonrisa, P.O. Box 2189, Round Rock, Texas 78680 or to La Casa del La Luz, c/o Kenneth White, 1012 Bryce Drive, Mission, Texas 78572.
Services were entrusted to the care of Kreidler Funeral Home, Inc. in McAllen, Texas.

LEONOR GARZA VILLARREAL

EDINBURG – Leonor Garza Villarreal, age 97, was born in San Miguel de Camargo, Mexico, in 1901, came to San Manuel and married Jesus L. Villarreal Sr. in 1927. She raised five children; sons, Romeo (Mary) Villarreal of Edinburg and Gene (Armandina) Villarreal of Corpus Christi; daughters, Thelma (Robert) Garcia of Edinburg, Irma (Robert) Vallejo of McAllen, Agustina (Rodolfo) Torres of San Antonio. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Connie Villarreal of San Manuel; sister, Connie Lopez of Harlingen; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Villarreal was very involved in St. Anne’s Altar Society, Home Demonstration program and Brewster School PTA, was one of the pioneeers who helped build St. Anne’s Catholic Church in San Manuel. She helped raise many children that were related and unrelated that were orphans.

Mrs. Villarreal was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus L. Villarreal Sr.; daughter, Julieta Lydia Villarreal, and a son, Jesus L. Villarreal Jr. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral Mass was recited at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in San Manuel. Interment followed at Chapa’s Cemetery in San Manuel. The family would like to express their gratitude to Minu Audelo, for caring for Mother for 12 years, and Mi Casa Home Health Care, also Dr. Francisco Rugama and staff at McAllen Medical Center. Pallbearers will be Jerry Garcia, Bryan Brooks, Leo Villarreal, John Villarreal, Rudy Torres Jr., Jose Benito Audelo and Gene Dennis Villarreal. Honorary pallbearers are Dominique Lopez, Manuel A. Villarreal, Miguel Garza, Santiago Garza and Felix Garza.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.

VALENTIN GOMEZ

SAN JUAN – Valentin Gomez, 76, of San Juan, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in Edinburg.

Born in San Juan, Texas, Mr. Gomez had lived in San Juan all of his life. He was a laborer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Martinez Gomez; a son, Arturo Gomez; and a daughter, Petra Maria Gonzalez.

Survivors include seven sons, Valentin Gomez Jr., Adrian Gomez and Roberto Gomez, all of San Juan, Chon Gomez, Fabian Gomez and Bruno Gomez, all of Edinburg and Abelardo Gomez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four daughters, Armida Valdez of Lansing, Michigan, Rita Gomez of Toledo, Ohio, Nora Garcia of Edinburg and Victoria Anzaldua of Weslaco; 57 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 1999, with a 7 p.m. rosary at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
