Funeral Services for Mary Lee Martin, 95, of Houston, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009 in the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Chester, Texas with Rev. W.Z. Terry officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Darden Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin was born October 10, 1913 in Barnum, Texas and passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 in Sugarland, Texas. She was a member of the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Chester, Texas and had been an employee for Chester ISD. She married her loving husband, Woodson Martin on April 19, 1933 in Livingston, Texas and together they raised a wonderful family. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years as well as the Ancient Love Court #369. She was preceded in death by her husband: Woodson Martin; parents: Brown and Pidie Ann Walter; sons: Clyde, Tom, Woodson Jr., Fred and Billy Ray; daughter: Glenda Ann; brothers: Henry, Earl, and Aubrey; and sister: Ruby Smith.

She is survived by her sons: George W. Martin of Lynwood, California, Bennie C. Martin Sr. of Chester, Texas, Robert T. Martin Sr. of Moreno Valley, California; daughters: Hazel Martin Hannon of Chester, Texas, Edith Martin Barnes of Houston, Texas, Mary B. Martin of Long Beach, California; brother: Alphonso Walter of Carson, California; sisters: Candres Lewis, Emma Lee Willis and Grace Turner all of Compton, California; 33 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, including special niece, Mrs. Jewelene Bean of Chester, Texas.

Pallbearers: Kirby L. Barnes Jr., Keith Barnes, Ahmad Daniels, Bennie Martin Jr., Raymond Hannon, Timothy Martin, Keith C. Martin, Anthony Martin, Robert Martin Jr., Bryan Martin, and Cedric Johnson-Martin.

Funeral Services for Lora Birch, 95, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in the First United Methodist in Corrigan, Texas with Rev. Francine Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, January 12, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Birch was born October 23, 1913 in Barnum, Texas and passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 in Lufkin, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corrigan, Texas, a member of the Order of Eastern Star #631, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years: Robert E. Birch; parents: William Henry and Margaret Francis (Dickens) Vinson.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Joe Bill Birch of Corrigan, Robert F. and Kathryn Birch of Corrigan, Richard Wayne and Debra Birch of Jacksonville, Texas; grandchildren: Bob Birch of Corrigan, Sharon Birch of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Jennifer and James Pierson of Woodville, Texas, Mark Birch of Arlington, Texas, Daniel Birch of Brooklyn, New York, Ryan Noell of Tyler, Texas, and Adam Noell of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 3 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Myra Jo Alsbrooks Rathburn
January 14, 1933 - January 10, 2009

Funeral Services for Myra Jo Alsbrooks Rathburn, 75, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 12, 2009 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Ralph Johnston and Bro. Phil Corbett officiating. A tribute to Ms. Rathburn will be given by Jake Sherman and Billy Poole. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at the Corrigan Funeral Home.

Ms. Rathburn was born January 14, 1933 in Corrigan, Texas and passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 in Corrigan, Texas after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas and the Order of Eastern Star in Orange, Texas. She attended school in Corrigan and was an honor graduate of Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, Texas. She was a retired dental assistant and later retired from the Corrigan-Camden Independent School District. She was preceded in death by her parents: Charlie and Doris (Pullen) Allsbrooks; sister: Charlene Purvis; and brother-in-law: Jay M. Locke.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Michael Everett and Deborah Lockhart of Denton, Texas; granddaughter: Michele Lockhart of Denton, Texas; sister: Molly Locke of Corrigan, Texas; brother-in-law and wife: James J. “Buddy” and Terri Purvis of Corrigan, Texas; niece: LeeAnn Purvis; nephews: Milton Purvis, Byrd Purvis, Jay Purvis, Billy Sam Locke, Mason Locke, Charlie Jay Locke, Chaz Locke and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Milton Purvis, Charlie Jay Locke, Billy Sam Locke, Byrd Purvis, Chaz Locke, and Mason Locke.

Robert Lane Kibby
December 27, 1927 - January 2, 2009

Graveside Services for Robert Lane Kibby, 81, of Moscow, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, Texas with J.B. Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 from 5-8 pm.

Mr. Kibby was born December 27, 1927 in Shepherd, Texas and passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 in Pasadena, Texas. He was a member of the Bible Memorial Methodist and was an operator in the oil industry for Shell Refinery. He was also a Veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pasadena, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents: Markin and Myrtle (Cribe) Kibby; brother: Jimmy Kibby.

He is survived by his wife: Nellie Kibby of Moscow, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Douglas Pearson of VanBeaurn, Arkansas; Kathy Pulliam of Springdale, Arkansas; Patty Brausell of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Carolyn and Karlon Simon of Pearland, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Angie Mitchell of Deer Park, Texas; Ralph and Patty Mitchell of Pasadena, Texas and many other relatives and friends.

Virgie L. Karr Maxey
February 14, 1936 - December 28, 2008

Virgie L. Karr Maxey, 72, of Huffman, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008. Virgie, beloved mother, nan-naw, great-grandnan-naw, sister, and aunt will be dearly missed by all her family members. She was born February 14, 1936 to Von Karr and Cecil Neely. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband: Milton Raymond Maxey; grandson: Chance Mattlage; sisters: Dean Howard, Jo Ann Law; and brother: Vernon Neely.

She is survived by her daughters: Pam Hodges and husband Sam of Huffman, Angela Mattlage and husband Kevin of Pearland; two sons: Keith of Livingston and Darryl of Houston; five grandsons: Blake Larivee, Devin Mattlage, Jeried, Alan and Terrance Maxey; two great-granddaughters: Alissa Maxey and Leah Foley; two brothers: her twin, Fred Karr and Jack Schoonover; sisters: Betty Ballard, Lillie Shumate and Jean Blalock and many other relatives and friends. She is also survived by her special pets: Frederick and Baby.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Ralph Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins on Wednesday, December 31, 2008.

The family extends sincere appreciation for the loving care given by the private nurses, the Odyssey Hospice nurses and the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at Houston Northwest Hospital and Triumph Hospital Northwest.

Mrs. Williams was born October 11, 1932 in Trinity County in Texas and passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008 at her residence. She was a Baptist by faith and a salesperson in the clothing industry for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents: Bill E. and Daisy Dee (Blackmon) Herring; brothers: A.B. Herring and Lloyd “Bo” Herring; sisters: Norma Dee Smith and Geneva Herring.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years: B.F. Williams Sr. of Diboll, Texas; son and daughter-in-law: B.F. and Susan Williams Jr. of Dayton, Texas; daughters: Nadine Williams Culver of Houston, Texas and Sherry Williams of Baytown, Texas; grandchildren: Mandi Shae Williams of Dayton, Texas and Brian Williams of Corrigan, Texas; 1 great granddaughter: Cheyenne; step-grandchildren: Wade and Michelle Airheart of New Mexico, James Luke Morgan of Kuwait; step-great grandchildren: Coleman Airheart and Bailey Airheart of New Mexico; sisters and brother-in-law: Faye and A.J. Smith of Houston, Texas, Betty Perkins of Corrigan, Texas; sisters-in-law: Eddie Herring of Burke, Texas, Hannah Herring of San Antonio, Texas; special nephew: Charles “Sonny” Williams, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jake Sherman
October 11, 1920 - October 31, 2008

Jake Sherman, 88, died October 31, 2008, at the Corrigan Long-Term Care Center in Corrigan, Texas. Services will be held Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas. Burial will be at the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan following the service.

Mr. Sherman was born October 11, 1920 in Corrigan, Texas to Sidney Sherman and Mary Cunningham Sherman. He graduated from Corrigan High School in 1939. He married Zelley Mae Creel Sherman on March 15, 1939 in Corrigan. They have two children, Rebecca Mixson of Corrigan and Jacob Sherman of Huntsville, Texas.

Mr. Sherman was a World War II veteran and served in the Pacific as a member of the Army 42nd Combat Engineers under the command of General Douglas McArthur. He saw action in the Philippine Islands. His company was one of the first Americans to serve in Korea as the war ended. After the war, Mr. Sherman returned to Corrigan and worked in construction as a pipe fitter. He moved to Beaumont in 1960 and worked for B.F. Goodrich in Port Neches, Texas until his retirement in 1983. He has been a resident of Corrigan since his retirement where he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Mr. Sherman was a member of the Corrigan Masonic Lodge No. 1103, the Pipe Fitter Union 195, and the First Baptist Church in Corrigan.

His family and friends describe him as someone who had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was generous and had a kind heart. He lived his life with integrity and bravery.

He is survived by his wife, Zelly May Sherman of Corrigan; daughter, Rebecca Mixson of Corrigan; son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Sandra Sherman of Huntsville, Texas; grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Kristin Sherman of Corrigan, Matthew Sherman of Lufkin, Texas, Max Mixson of Houston, Texas, and MaeBeth and Shane Carrizal of Houston, Texas. He has five great-grandchildren, Stephan and Jessica Sherman of Corrigan, Samantha Sherman of College Station, Texas, and Zackary and Elizabeth Carrizal of Houston, Texas.

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mary Sherman; brother, Edwin Sherman; and sister, Gayle Sherman.

Mildred E. Colvin Thomason
August 18, 1921 - October 31, 2008

Mildred E. Colvin Thomason, (87) passed away on October 31, 2008. Mildred was born on August 18, 1921 in Elkhart, Texas to Thomas Colvin and Lettie May Pennington Colvin.

Mildred retired after working for 40 years at Oak Farms Dairy in Houston and Dallas.

Mildred is survived by her three sons: Donald Thomason, Ronald Thomason and Tommy Nelson Thomason and their wives, Jamie Thomason, Georgia Thomason and Rita Thomason; 6 grandchildren: Brad Thomason, Nina Thomason Dudley, Tracie Thomason, Tiffani Thomason, Zachary Thomason and Jeremy Thomason; nephew: Joe Tom Colvin and his wife, Betty Colvin and their children, Jessie Joe Colvin and Holly Colvin McCombs, Sheri Wathall and Melissa Latham and 5 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Corrigan, Texas at the Union Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 3, 2008 in the Corrigan Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.
