Memorial services for Albury Ralph Melton age 70 of Livingston will be held Saturday September 11, 2010 at the Winnie Street Family Worship Church at 1:00 PM with Rev. Berry Duke and Rev. Rance Cole officiating.

He was born April 2, 1940 in Columbus, Georgia and passed away September 5, 2010 at his home in Livingston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Johnnie Melton of Livingston, Albury Melton, son, Patty & Pete Moore, daughter & son in law, Susan & Carl Petty, daughter & son in law, Jeannie & Greg Scruggs, daughter & son in law, Betty Fisher, daughter, Judy & Terry Waddell, daughter & son in law, Janice & Terry Collier, daughter & son in law, Mickey & Leigh Banks, son & daughter in law, Rickey Banks, son, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 sisters also survive.

John Guy Slocomb
December 15, 1953 - September 4, 2010

Memorial services for John Guy Slocomb, age 56 of Livingston will be held Thursday September 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Livingston with Pastor Sam Steele officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2010 from 6:00pm till 8:00pm at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston.

He was born December 15, 1953 in Galena Park, Texas the son of Richard S. and Jane Thompson Slocomb. He passed away peacefully at his home in Livingston, Texas on September 4, 2010.

John graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in finance. After college John began a distinguished and successful career as a banker. In 1985 John moved his young family to Livingston, Texas, to become involved in obtaining the charter for The Bank of Livingston, where he served as President and CEO until the merged with the First National Bank of Livingston in 1998 where John served as President and CEO until his death. John served with great pride as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Bankers Association, and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Livingston, Texas, Memorial Medical Center Livingston Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity, Livingston Lions Club, and many other community organizations throughout the years. John was recognized as Polk Countian of the Year in 2004. John had a great passion for golf and his boat. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous nature of a true gentleman.

John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Constance “Connie” Slocomb, his son John Allen Slocomb and daughter-in-law, Shay, of Boerne, Texas, his daughter, Rachel Slocomb, and his sister Lucy Slocomb Thompson and brother-in-law John P. Thompson of Livingston, Texas. He also is survived by one granddaughter, Madilyn Slocomb of Boerne, Texas, niece Beth Thompson Wolf of Missouri City, Texas and nephew Rick Thompson of Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Polk County Higher Education and Technology Foundation or SAAFE House-Polk County or the charity of your choice.

Oma Grace Collins
September 17, 1927 - September 1, 2010

Oma Grace Collins, born in Livingston, Texas on Sept., 17th, 1927, passed away in Livingston on Sept., 1st, 2010 at the age of 82. She is survived by her son, Bobby Collins & wife Rebecca Sue; daughter, Jeanell Collins; seven grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Collins is preceded in death by her husband James Edward Collins in 2007; brothers Bo Fritz & A.M. Fritz; & sisters; Clara Walters & Auda Cowen Pallbearers will be; Richard Voelker, Bud Emerson, Garet Collins, Chris Truax, Llewel Walters & Charles Ingram. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, Sept. 2nd at Pace Funeral home. A celebration of Grace’s Life will be held 10:30am, Friday Sept. 3rd, 2010 also at Pace Funeral Home with Pastors Jimmy Hermes & Keith Castleberry officiating. Interment to follow at Peebles cemetery .

Linda Kay Strength
August 20, 1948 - August 29, 2010

Linda Kay Strength went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday August 29, 2010. She was born August 20, 1948 and was chosen by Herbert and Minnie Clark to bless their lives as their little girl. Originally living in Rising Star, TX, the family moved to Longview, TX. She graduated from Pine Tree High School. In 1967, she married Michel Butler. In 1969, she gave birth to their daughter Barbara. She was an Air Force wife and traveled for 11 years. Although the marriage union didn't last, they remained close friends and his family remained her second family. She was a legal secretary for years before meeting Kenneth Strength. They married February 14, 1985. Later that year she gave birth to their son Kenneth "Cody". She then became a stay at home Mom. As "Cody" got older, she began searching for and reuniting adoptees and birth parents. She felt that this was something that she was always meant to do, and continued to do so after moving to Livingston. She loved searching so much that she continued up until, due to illness, she could no longer sit at the computer. She also loved spending time with her family, seeing her grandkids, and visiting on the phone and computer with her extended search family. Those that went on before her include her parents, Herb & Minnie Clark, her brother, Scott Clark, and her "2nd" Mom, Shirley "La La" Brooks. She is survived by, Kenneth Strength, daughter Barbara and husband Rodger Serviss of Iowa, son Kenneth "Cody" and wife Cassandra "Casey" Strength of Livingston, grandchildren Elizabeth, Eric, and Elaine Serviss, and all that knew and loved her. Robert Edward McCurry

Robert Edward McCurry, 23, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 26, 2010. Robert was born April 9, 1987 in Muenster, Indiana. He is survived by his spouse, Brittany Nutt McCurry; parents, Calvin Plank, Gail Plank and Robert Greene, siblings, Brittany Plank and Crystal Hargroder; nieces, Trinity Hargroder and Madison Hargroder; nephew, Maddux Brown and a host of family and friends.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Chesswood Baptist Church with Brother Easley officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Pace Funeral Home. Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joel Newton Puckett
February 7, 1936 - August 16, 2010

Joel Newton Puckett, born February 7th, 1936, in Camden, Texas to Walter & Naomi Matthews Puckett, passed away on August 16th, 2010, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 74. Joel owned his own logging business; he loved to hunt, fish & truly enjoyed farming. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Patsy Ellen Puckett; Sons, Joel Wayne Puckett & Gregory Lyn Puckett & wife Teresa Puckett; Brothers & Sisters, Nage Puckett, Onnie Lee & Betty Puckett, Flautie Hon & husband David; Grandchildren, Wesley & Brittany Puckett, Britney & John Sanders, Wade Puckett, Matt Puckett, Chi Anne Puckett, Ashley & Billy Moffett, Karen & Dandy Bergman & John E. Davis; Great Grandchildren, Westin Lyn Puckett, Ramie David, J.L. & Jagger Ray Bergman preceded in death by his Parents and Sister Etheleen Parrish. Pallbearers will include, Wesley Puckett, John Sanders, Matt Puckett, Billy Wayne Jones, Bo Treadway, Wade Puckett & John E. Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will include, Gilbert Machost, Edward Holder, Robert McLaurin, David Hon, Paul Parrish, Randy Bowman, Donald Blakley, Tom Gardner, Shelby Clamon & Earl Abbott. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm Wednesday, August 18th and a Celebration of Joel’s Life will begin at 10am, Thursday August 19th all at Pace Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Hood officiating. Matilda Eliza (Liza) Collier Seward
June 17, 1926 - August 15, 2010

Matilda Eliza (Liza) Collier Seward, 84 went to be with the Lord August 15, 2010 at Dogwood Trails Manor Nursing Home in Woodville, Texas. She was born June 17, 1926 to Daniel and Leah Collier in Dauphin Island, Alabama. Mrs. Seward attended Sunflower Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Ernie and wife Barbara Seward of Livingston, daughter-in-laws Rhoda Barber of Splendora and Debbie Seward of Cleveland, Nine grandchildren, eighteen great children and four great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband Calvin Woodrow Seward; children, Edward Barber, Sr., and Roy Seward; brothers, Arthur Collier, Amy Collier, Victor Collier and Henry (Dink); grandchildren, Ellen Barber Goodson and Sandy Seward.

Burial will be at Odd Fellows cemetery in Bayou LaBatre, Alabama.

Louis Allen Dozier
December 17, 1946 - August 9, 2010

Louis Allen Dozier, after losing his battle with congestive heart failure, went to be with the Lord on 08/09/10. He is survived by his sister, Patti Mock, his children ~ Pamela and Andy Dozier, numerous grandchildren and many friends. Louis was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. Rest In Peace. Earvin William Steward
March 6, 1919 - August 7, 2010

Earvin William Stewart, born March 6, 1919 in Livingston, Texas went to be with his Lord August 7, 2010 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 91 years. Mr. Stewart was a member of First Baptist Church of Livingston where he attended the Men’s Fellowship Classes. He was a Minister in several churches. He owned his own Maytag Repair shop in Livingston. He is survived by his wife, Alta Mae Brown Stewart; brother, L.C. Stewart and special niece Charlotte Burk, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Earvin Lee and Bithie Roberts Stewart and sister, Katie Dehart Stewart.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 9, 2010, 3:00 PM at Pace Funeral Home, with Bro. Bob Hunt and Bro. Frank Hood officiating. Burial followed at Peebles cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation was held Sunday evening, August 8, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Pallbearers were Mike Pullen, Jeff Parkman, Bobby Lowe, Weldon Vines, James Williams and Winfred Robnett. Honorary pallbearers were the Mens Fellowship Class.

Winona Taylor
October 7, 1917 - August 7, 2010

Winona Taylor born October 7, 1917 in Livingston, Texas went to be with her Lord August 7, 2010 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 92 years. She was a member of Soda Baptist Church and a Caregiver majority of her life she loved to help people. Her loving family includes three children, Billy Ray Taylor & wife Joyce Murphy, Jimmie A Taylor & wife Mary Dillon and Avis Nichols; brother, Jimmie Morris & wife Nelda; sisters, Christell Kelley, Carrie Bell Kelley and Faye Anderson & husband James; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a special thanks to Keith And Ronnie Taylor for the devoted care they gave their grandmother; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Archie B. Taylor; sister, Merline Kelley; grandson, David Arnold Taylor, son-in-law, Edgar Nichols. Pallbearers were Keith Taylor, Scott Reeves, Cory Jones, Clifford Jones, Joanni Kinsela, Craig Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Taylor, Gary Taylor, Curtis Anderson, Jr. and Rickey Beene. A visitation was held Monday August 9, 2010 at Pace Funeral Home. A Celebration of Winona’s Life began at 2pm Tuesday August 10, 2010 at Pace Funeral Home with Bro.Frank Hood officiating. Interment to follow at Bluff Creek cemetery .

Lyle Lewis
August 13, 1929 - October 10, 2010

Memorial services for Robert Lyle Lewis, age 81 of Onalaska, Texas will be held Thursday October 14, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Harold Isaacs officiating.

He was born August 13, 1929 in Radcliff, Iowa the son of Fred Homer Lewis and Fern Lucille Johnson Lewis and passed away October 10, 2010 in Lufkin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, JoAnn Lewis, Curtis Eugene Lewis, son and sister, Faye Dianne Russert Lewis. He loved to be around the water, fishing and golf.

He is survived by Victoria Lewis, wife, of Onalaska, Texas, Deborah Lynn Ireland, daughter, Eugene Curtis & Shirley Lewis, brother & sister in law, Luz Larson, daughter, Danilo Tuazon, son, Jaime Tuazon, son, and grandchildren; Analisa Larson, Sarah Ann Larson and Calia Lewis, Cynthia Ann & Joe Todd, niece & husband, Trish Englehart, niece, Colby Lewis, great nephew and Kaliyah Rae Lewis, great niece.

Joy Nell Henninton
May 21, 1918 - October 8, 2010

Funeral services for Joy Nell Henninton age 92 of Lufkin will be held Sunday October 10, 2010 at 4:30 PM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill cemetery . Mrs. Hennington passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 in a Lufkin nursing facility.

Mrs. Hennington was born in Livingston on May 21, 1918 to Lurla Alberta Adams and William Vernon Gibson. She graduated from public school in Livingston and Draughns Business College in Houston. She was employed by W.L. Crawford Insurance Agency for many years. She joined First Methodist Church at the age of six and taught Sunday School for many years. Later she joined the Central Baptist Church and was active until her health declined. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club and was also a member of the Garden Club.

Survivors include her step-sons, Jerry Frank Hennington and wife Janelle of Lufkin and John Hennington and wife Edith of Wichita Falls, daughter-in-law, Edna Tomme of Livingston, grandchildren, Michael Tomme and wife Rosario of Austin, Susan Smith and husband David of Hurst, Bobby Kirkland and husband Calvin of Votaw, Ollie Nell Gage and husband Thomas of Magnolia, Jim Hennington of Port Arthur, David Hennington and wife Xenia of Austin, Kieth Hennigton and wife Keeley of Dallas, Meghan Barrett and husband Paul of Clarksville, TN, Robyn Hennington of Dallas, Eric Hennington of Denton, numerous great and great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her dear friends Patricia Snook, Pam Grube and Sue Crawford

Mrs. Hennington was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, husband, Roy Hennington, Sr., step-children, Bettie Tomme and Roy Hennington, Jr., son-in-law, Henry Tomme and great-grandson, James Smith.

Leo Albert Hebert
June 17, 1922 - October 8, 2010

Leo Albert Hebert passed away October 8, 2010 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 88. When Leon was 16 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. and the Army National Guard. He later transferred to the Army Air Corp., where he was an airplane mechanic. Mr. Hebert soon became a pilot and graduated to flight instructor and First Lieutenant. Leo trained French Nationals for combat pilot duty. He was fluent in French Language because it was spoken in his home when he was growing up. Leo was nicknamed "Washing Machine" by General DeGaule for his ability to "wash out" French Pilots. Mr. Hebert was an active member of Lake Livingston Village Property Owner's Association. He was also an Officer of A.R.F. radio Control Model Airplane club for many years. Leo was also a Flotilla Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary patrolling Lake Livingston. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Leo Hebert and Victoria Bouchard. He is survived by son Joe Hebert and wife Jeanie and one grandson named Travis. Visitation was held Sunday October 10, 2010 at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Dale Gilbert Rolin
November 24, 1920 - October 3, 2010

Dale Gilbert Rolin was born November 24, 1920 and passed away at home Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Livingston, TX. Dale was a World War II Veteran, Navy LST 308, life member VFW, American Legion & Moose Lodge of Topeka, Kansas.

Mr. Rolin is preceded in death by his parents, Addie & Frank Rolin and brother Dwight Rolin. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Maxwell Rolin of Livingston, TX; sister, Mildred Curtis of Livingston, TX; nephew, Ric Curtis and wife Barb of Indiana; niece, Sandi Curtis of California; Stepson, C.J. Nipper and wife Sandra of Alvin, TX; step-daughter, Rhetta Arasin of Hardin, TX; granddaughters, Melissa Arasin of Austin, TX, Vanessa Arasin- Hadsel and husband Daniel of Houston, TX, Latisha Cooke of Livingston, TX, Andrea Nipper of Corpus Christi, TX; great grandchildren, Jeremy Nipper, Beaux Carriere, Cole Nipper and Alice Marie Hadsel.

A Memorial Service will be held in Topeka, Kansas at a later date.

Deborah Ann Dickens
August 25, 1954 - October 2, 2010

Funeral services for Deborah Ann Dickens age 56 of Livingston, Texas will be held Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Midway Community Church with Pastor Chris Borden officiating and interment to follow in the Midway cemetery . Pallbearers will be Josh Mosser, Trey Ritz, Don Glatthaar, Justin Glatthaar, Kevin Badgett and David Badgett.

She was born August 25, 1954 in Baytown, Texas the daughter of Kenneth Eugene Badgett and Imogene Spell Badgett and passed away October 2, 2010 in Livingston.

She is survived by her husband Gaylon Dickens, sons, Chad Bailey, Brian Dickens and Gary Dickens, brothers, Randall & Roy Badgett, sisters, Kathy Mosser, Terri Glatfhaar, Lori Ritz, mother, Imogene Badgett and mother in law, Mozelle Dickens, 4 grandchildren also survive.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill Children’s Home in Fairfield, Texas 75840, P.O. Box 1177.

Almena Irene Wells age 88, of Trinity, Texas passed away October 2, 2010 in Livingston, Texas.

She was born February 24, 1922 in Weatherford, Texas the daughter of Isaac Ruben Pearson and Grace Creach Pearson.

She is survived by Polly & Tony Heldenbrand, granddaughter & husband of Trinity, Texas and Valerie Sumrall, great granddaughter of Trinity, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Carter, Oklahoma.
