One of “Sonny’s” greatest passions was his love of music. He grew up in a simple time when young people learned to sing or play an instrument to provide family entertainment. He could hear a new song on the radio and be singing it the next day. From singing duos in church with his brother Cy Jo to forming his own country/western band in later years, to playing with the Stutts boys and the Hodges, his love of music was felt by everyone.

While living in Houston, Texas and playing the night clubs he was privileged to have Mickey Gilley’s band and Mickey himself sit in with them. He also played with fiddling great Chubby Wise, Frenchie Burke anf the Kershaw Brothers.

His gift of gab, sunny smile and hearty laughter will be missed by all. He never met a stranger. Sonny was one of those people who would give you “the shirt off his back.” His two favorite seasons were “deer” season and “shrimping” season and to both he avidly applied himself.
