Raymond Lee Silcox
September 7, 1934 to February 8, 2013

Raymond Lee Silcox was born on September 7, 1934, to Ray and Pearlie Silcox. On February 8, 2013, he went to be with Jesus. Raymond was 78 years old. Raymond was raised in Livingston, Texas and graduated as a star football player. He attended Sam Houston State University and served in the United States Army. Raymond was a volunteer fireman for Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department for many years, where he served as Chief for several years. He retired from the natural gas plant on FM 2665.

Raymond spent his retirement years farming, baling hay and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Peggy Emanuel Silcox; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dameron and Martha Silcox of Spring, Texas, Ray and Elaine Silcox of Austin, Texas, Paul Ray and Rose Silcox of Conroe, Texas; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Silcox of Goodrich, Texas; grandsons, Caleb Erwin, Brian Silcox, Peter Silcox, Christopher Silcox and David Morrissey; granddaughters, Autumn Erwin and Lacey Morrissey Erwin; great grandsons, Quinton Silcox, Jaden Thompson and Joey Tucker; great granddaughter, Taylor Stone; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Jackie Silcox and Paul and Stephanie Silcox; one sister and brother-in-law, Francis and George Cunningham; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services for Raymond, will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Bro. Wayne Landrum will officiate the services. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post #8568. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be the firemen that served on the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Nila Faye Smith

Funeral services for Nila Faye Smith, 84, of Spring, Texas, will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Robert Lankford officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Stryker cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Smith was born April 1, 1928 in Trinity County, Texas and passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Tomball, Texas. She worked for Republic Steel Company as a receptionist and was a Lutheran by faith. She enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents: Bill and Daisy (Blackman) Herring; brothers: A.B. Herring and Lloyd Gene Herring; sisters: Norma Dee Smith and Bobbie Lee Williams.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 66 years and 313 days: A.J. Smith of Spring, Texas; son and daughter-in-law: Joe and Lauren Smith of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren: Ryan Smith and wife Sue of Little Elm, Texas, Amy Jo Smith Nuzum and husband Chad of Little Elm, Texas; sister: Betty Perkins Ivy of Wakefield, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Ryan Smith, David Youngblood, Mike Herring, Jim Rogers, Paul Perez, Wayne Culver.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bryan Williams, Chad Nuzum, B.F. Williams.

Elemer Ray Manasco, Jr.
October 9, 1969-January 23, 2013

Elemer Ray Manasco, Jr. was born on October 9, 1969 in Newport, Arkansas and passed away in Bangor, Maine on January 23, 2013. He is survived by Catarina Manasco, Veronica Manasco, Antonio Manasco, Damian Manasco, Gabrielle Manasco, Marie and Marvin Cruize, of Livingston, Ray Manasco, Sr., of Livingston, Teresa and David Walker, of Livingston, Judy and Perry Rogers, of Onalaska, Lavada Pixley, of Livingston, Lola Jean Moore; numerous other relatives and friends, also survive.

Memorial Services for Elemer Ray Manasco, Jr., age 43, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Indian Springs Chapel with Bro. Raymond Harrington conducting the services.

Frank D. Williams
September 30, 1917 to February 8, 2013

Frank D. Williams, age 95 of Livingston, Texas, passed away February 8, 2013, in Livingston, Texas. Mr. Williams was born on September 30, 1917, in Kingsville, Texas, to parents, Francis Dudley Williams Sr., and Maude Hannaway Williams. He served in the Army Air Force during WW II, honoring our country.

Mr. Williams is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eloise Wiggins Williams; two brothers, Kyle Williams and Fred Dwight Williams; and two sisters, Velma Lowry and Iva Burris. He is survived by two brothers, Alvin Dale Williams and Kenneth Williams, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother-in-law, William Wiggins of Signal Mt., Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chief Oscola Clayton M. Sylestine
Known to many as “Smiley”

Chief Oscola Clayton M. Sylestine, affectionately known by many as Smiley, was born on February 11, 1932 on the Indian Village. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was the son of James Feagin Sylestine and Mary Thompson Sylestine. He had ten brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Mary Sylestine, his sisters, Annabelle Sylestine Alec, Stella Belle Sylestine Langley, Edith Nell Sylestine Abbey, twins, Jennie Dare Sylestine and Johnnie Dare Sylestine, and brothers, Harry R. Sylestine, Lloyd Jimmerson Sylestine, Larry Nathan Sylestine and Carey Dawson Sylestine. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Ethelyn Battise Sylestine of the Indian Reservation, his daughter, Pamela Sylestine Anderson of Houston, son, Rick and wife Belinda Sylestine of Kilgore, daughter Hilda and husband Dee Ray Pittman of Magnolia and son James F. Sylestine of the Indian Reservation. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Sylestine and sons Benjamin and Lane Anderson of Houston, Jeremy Sylestine, his wife Molly and daughter Quinn of Austin, Danielle Sylestine and son Slade of the Indian Reservation, Christopher Anderson and sons Morgan and Aiden of Houston, Shawni Sylestine and sons Jaden and Kameron of Houston, Joshua Sylestine and daughter Annaleigh of Livingston, Shaun Pittman of Houston, Micah Hoyt, his wife Samantha and sons Kayden, Dawson and Uriah of Harrison, Arkansas, Destiny Sylestine and daughter Ashlyn of the Indian Reservation, Santana Sylestine of the Indian Reservation, Solomon Sylestine of the Indian Reservation, and Tylia Sylestine of Kilgore. His surviving in-laws are Donnis and Carol Battise, Naomi Battise, and Katherine Thompson all of the Indian Reservation. He has one sole surviving sibling, Lillian Isabel Sylestine who is 90 years old.

He graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1950 and went on to attend the University of Houston. There he played basketball of the Houston Cougars. He left U of H to join the United States Army and was a Corporal in the 1st Infantry Division, 18th Infantry Regiment from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany during the Korean War. He worked in the logging industry, and he also worked for 17 years with Champion Forestry until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Indian Presbyterian Church. Smiley was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and an elder.

Smiley served on the Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Council for many years. In 1992, he was elected to serve the tribe as Second Chief. He was later elected and inaugurated as Principal or First Chief in 1995. Chief Oscola visited many schools and with many different groups to educate others about the Alabama-Coushatta people and their culture. He faithfully served as First Chief until his passing.

He was well noted for his long career as an outstanding fast pitch softball pitcher. He played and coached for the Texas Indians softball team and traveled throughout Texas and the surrounding states to play. Batters feared his fast ball.

In spare time he would work on river cane and pine needle baskets, among other traditional crafts from his tribe. He had a great love for all sports and was a strong supporter of his family’s involvement in school sports as well as for the tribal and local youth.

Services were held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center with internment to follow at Indian Reservation Tribal cemetery. Elder Debbie Battise-Kelinman and Brother David Busby will be officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Smiley’s grandsons; Jeremy Sylestine, Christopher Anderson, Joshua Sylestine, Shaun Pittman, Micah Hoyt, Solomon Sylestine, Benjamin Anderson and Jade Gary. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Texas Indians Softball Team, his Champion co-workers, Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Council, Mr. Walt Broemer, John Davis, Joe Schneider, Wilburn Rowe, Thomas Sylestine and William S. Sylestine.

Obit for Louise Locke Sullivan
August 20, 1949 to February 7, 2013

Louise Locke Sullivan, age 63 of Humble, Texas, was born on August 20, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to parents John W. and Cola Ruth Martin Locke. She passed away in Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble, Texas, on August 7, 2013. She enjoyed spending time with her family and fishing the jetties.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Sullivan, Sr.; grandson, Michael David Bein; granddaughter, Jennifer Ashley Louise Wooten; and sister, Pamela Sue Hoyt. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, and one son and daughter-in-law, Lisa and Kevin Lease of Bay Cliff, Texas, Jerry, Jr. and Jamie Sullivan of Humble, Texas, and Sherri & Josh Nichols of Humble, Texas; six grandchildren, Trey, John, Lacy, Jeremy, Justin and Julie; two great grandchildren, Kaydence and Rhiot; two sisters and one brother-in-law, and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wyatt of Conroe, Texas, Billy Hoyt of Conroe, Texas, Danny and Cindy Hoyt of Conroe, Texas, and Lillian and Tommy Lyle of Splendora, Texas; a very special niece and her husband, Honey and Kevin Buckner; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members; and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Bro. Daniel Pitts will conduct the service. Pallbearers are Jeremy Nichols, Trey Sullivan, Justin Sullivan, James Wyatt, Eddie Tally and John Wooten. Following the chapel service, interment will be held at Splendora City cemetery in Splendora, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013, Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Kathleen Juanita Wiley, age 63 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on February 6, 2013 in Livingston, Texas. Kathleen was born on May 25, 1949, in Fresno, California, to parents, James and Ida Aires Taylor.

Kathleen is preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Richard Wiley; brother, Jimmy Taylor; and sister, Beatrice Lewaning. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tyi Marks, of Livingston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Stephanie Wiley, of Modesto, California; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Shiloh Wiley, of Willits, California; son, Nicholas Wiley, of Livingston, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Linda Taylor, of Hilmar, California; sister and brother-in-law, Beth and David Matthews, of Oregon; sister-in-law, Joan Taylor, of Kelseyville, California; grandchildren, Deserai McCarthy, Dustin Marks, Nicole Garcia, Tywaine Marks, Allen Wiley, Kathlyn Wiley, Brittany Wiley, Troy Wiley, Tristin Wiley, and Haydan Wiley; great-grandchildren, Kylee McCarthy, Madison McCarthy, Austyn Norred, Jordan Garcia, Jacob Garcia, and James Garcia.

George I. Brooks, age 86 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2013, in Livingston, Texas. George was born on April 15, 1926, in Carmona, Texas, to parents, George R. and Sallie Josephine Bell Brooks.

George is preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Ronald Brooks; brothers, Garner, Dan, Bill, and Mitt Brooks; sisters, Becky Isbell, Pearlie Beauchamp, and Idy Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Iva Bell Brooks, of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Connie Carpenter, of Austin, Texas; son, George Ray Brooks, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Brooks, Blake Brooks, Chase Brooks, Kane Carpenter, Coy Carpenter, Derek Brooks, Darin Brooks, and Dillon Brooks; great-grandchildren, Elyssa Brooks, Cypress Brooks, Phoenix Brooks, Blaine Carpenter, Macie Carpenter, Liam Carpenter, and Madysen Carpenter; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Velma Florence Kimmel, age 79 of Trinity, Texas, passed away on February 4, 2013 in Livingston, Texas. Velma was born on February 25, 1933 in Rice, Texas, to parents Chester Lloyd and Mayme Hill Twilligear.

Velma is preceded in death by both of her parents; sisters, Bobbie Bankhead and Martha Pyle; and grandson, Lloyd Robert Cain. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Holden, of Bryan, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Sharon Cain, of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Kristina and Michael Tabaczka, of Twin Lake Michigan, Frederick and Jennifer Holden, of Scottville, Michigan, Chesney and Ryan Cote of College Station, Texas, and Samantha Cain, of Livingston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Frederick James, Rek, Jaeleen, Michaela, and Gabriella; great-great grandchild, Daniel; brother, Lloyd Calvin Twilligear and Linda Lee, of Tacoma, Washington; and Escar Kimmel.

Woodrow Wilson Nelson

Woodrow Wilson Nelson born on November 6, 1917 in Rosenberg, Texas to Presley Redbrick Nelson and Annie Ethel Diver passed away on February 4, 2013 at the age of 95. Woodrow is survived by his son, Wayne Flannery and wife Betty; sisters, Lurline Wilson, Iona Gardner; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ina Merle; daughter, Linda Kay Harp; one sister, Dorine Eldridge; three brothers, Roy Nelson, Ray Nelson, and Bill Nelson. He proudly served as a veteran in the United States Marines having served in WWII. Mr. Nelson was a member of the VFW Post #8568 in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be at Pace Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 5-8 P.M. with a Celebration of Woodrow’s life beginning on February 7, 2013 at 2 P.M. at Pace Funeral Home with Bro. Corene White, born on March 24, 1936 in Groveton, Texas to Elbert Redden and Bettie Norsworthy Redden passed away on February 2, 2013 at 76. She is survived by two children, Jerri Kay Minchew of Woodlake, Texas & Terry Wayne White of Woodlake, Texas; grandchildren, Sha Hyde and husband Jeremy, Jerry W. White, Makenzie White, James R. Minchew and wife Julie, Janie Hubbard and husband Hal; four great grandchildren, Matt Hubbard, Jacie Hubbard, Kaylee Minchew & Emily Minchew; special friends, J.L. Conarroe and wife Charlene, Cowart family, Scarborough family, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Corene retired from Temple-Inland in Diboll, Texas after 31 years. Ellen Long, 87 of Livingston, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, in Crockett, Texas. Funeral serves will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, in Livingston. Rev. Denton Maze and Rev. Dewayne Clark to officiate. Pallbearers will be Dennis Athey, Mark Wessels, Wayne Wessels, Lynn Frank Strahan, Arnold Oliver, Bill Bergman, and Marty Lowe; interment to follow at Peebles cemetery. Visitation to be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel.

Ms. Long was born January 29, 1926, in Dayton, Texas, to parents, Clifton Columbus McKnight and Hazel (Jerrell) McKnight who preceded her in death, along with her second Husband, Edgar Pat Long. She is also preceded by her first Husband, Odell Coward and Daughter, Zelda Lela Coward; and Brothers, Harm Venton McKnight, Dan Raymon McKnight and James Lawrence McKnight.
Ms. Long is survived by her Daughter and Son-in-law, Linda and Ruff Petty; Foster Son and Daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Teresa McKnight of Hempstead, Texas; Foster Son and Daughter-in-law, Marvin Earl and Linda McKnight, II of Winnie, Texas; Grandchildren: Richard R. Petty, Jennifer Tenopir, Chris Tenopir, J.R. McKnight, Emily Streeter, Brandon Streeter and Clifton McKnight; Great Grandchildren: Lorenzo Petty, Gage Tenopir and Tocolla Holley; Brother and Sister-in-law, Marvin and May McKnight of Diboll, Texas; Brother and Sister-in-law, George and Mary Ann McKnight of Crockett, Texas; Sisters: Betty Thomas of Clute, Texas and Dorothy Lowe of Livingston, Texas; and numerous other family and friends.

Ms. Long was an excellent seamstress and owned “Ellen’s Fabric Shop” for many years. She had a passion for making clothes for others, especially family and friends. Some of her favorite hobbies included cooking, making birthday and wedding cakes, quilting, raising a garden and working in the yard. There was nothing Ms. Long couldn’t do once she put her mind to it. Besides love for her family, she also loved fellowship with her church and comfort in reading her bible.
