Erna Mae Davis, age 61 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on March 7, 2013, in Lufkin, Texas. She was born on March 25, 1951 in Grandian, Missouri, to parents Edmund Ulbrich and Iona Fain Ulbrich. Erna worked for the Houston Post Newspaper for twelve years and then moved to Livingston to care for her mother until her death in 2003.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne Davis, sister Ellen Hughes, and brother-in-law Eric Moore. Erna is survived by daughter, Ola Davis of Livingston, Texas; son, Brian Keith Davis of Virginia; Grandson, Aayan Khan of Livingston, Texas, granddaughter, Baylee Davis of Livingston, Texas; four sisters, Hilda Cooper and husband, Tom of Dallas, Texas, Martha Burleson and husband, Charles of Livingston, Texas, Edna Miller and husband, Robert of Houston, Texas, and Elisse Moore of Colorado.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Eric Bernard O’Quinn born November 22, 1968 in Livingston, Texas to Joyce E. Johnson and Charles Wallace, passed away on March 3, 2013 in Dickinson, Texas at the age of 44. Eric is survived by mother, Joyce E. Johnson Houston, Texas; Father, Charles (Doris) Wallace Livingston, Texas; Sister, Lei ( Terry) Runnels Houston, Texas; daughters, Elisha O’Guinn, Destiny O’Quinn, Daysia O’Guinn all of Houston, Texas; Granddaughter, Arihanna Munson Houston, Texas; grandmother, Autherine Wallace Livingston, Texas; aunts, Charlene O’Guin (Arvin), Debbie O’Guin (Willie), and Bonita Washington all of Livingston, Texas; Uncles, Jim (Juanita) O’Guinn Jr., Charles O’Guin, Benny Roy (Fannie) O’Guin Sr., Bobby D. (Velma) Wallace, Ray Wallace, all of Livingston, Texas; Special friend Evelyn Walker of Houston, and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service will be from 6 to 9P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Rising Star Baptist Church, 8201 Darlington, in Houston, Texas.

Services for Eric will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist church in Livingston, Texas. Interment icon will follow at Greenfield cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Pastor Kenneth Darden will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to service time, beginning at 9:00 AM, Saturday, March 9, 2013, also at Macedonia Missionary Baptist church in Livingston, Texas.

Rev. D C Fogleman

Rev. D C Fogleman, age 84 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on March 6, 2013, in Livingston. He was born on August 21, 1928, in Houston, Texas, to parents Dewitt Clifton Fogleman and Orvilla Butler Fogleman. Rev. Fogleman served in the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Orvilla Fogleman; daughter, Judith Anne Fogleman; brothers John Brooks Fogleman and Troy Fogleman; sisters, Ruth Garvin and Learlene Gore. Rev. Fogleman is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian McAdams Fogleman of Livingston, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Ethel Fogleman of Humble, Texas, and Benny and Delana of Livingston, Texas; two sisters, Carolyn Rainer of Katy, Texas, and Ann Marie Leviness of Channelview, Texas; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at First United Pentecostal Church in Livingston, Texas. Bro. Gerald Morris will conduct the services. Pallbearers are Ray Fogleman, Jeff Fogleman, Josh Fogleman, Jeremy Wells, Jonathan Paxton and Curtis Hermes. Interment icon will be held at 3:30 PM, following the church service, at Garden of Memories cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.

Geraldine “Toby” Kent

Geraldine “Toby” Kent, born December 9, 1932 in Livingston, Texas to Gerald and Maurine Bishop Patterson went to be with her Lord February 28, 2013 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 80 years.

She was a Southwestern Bell Pioneer retiring as a superintendent after many years of service. After retirement, she spent her time operating Green Oaks RV Park and loving her family.

Her loving family includes sons, Gerald Kent and wife Susan, Larry Kent; brother, Nelson (Billy) Patterson; sisters Mickey Kley Stephens, Wanda Ward and Charlotte Gibson; sister-in-law, Wanda Patterson; grandchildren, Tabitha Bland, Tammy Schneider, Bobby Arnold; great-grandchildren, Destin, Kaydin, Case, Morgan, Alyssa, Matthew, Jacob and Davallen; nephews, Rick Patterson and Fred Benzing; nieces, Debbie Perez, Beck Patterson, Jennie Kley-Beasley and Joanna Bethany Parham, plus numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held from 5pm till 9pm Friday March 1, 2013 at Pace funeral Home. A Celebration of Toby’s life will begin at 2pm Saturday March 2, 2013 at Pace Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Daniel, Jr. officiating. Interment icon will be at Mt. Rose cemetery.

David Terry Smillie

David Terry Smillie, age 71, died peacefully on February 27, 2013. He was born August 18, 1941 in Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smillie, of Livingston, many extended family members and his special friend, Mike Kirkland, of Livingston. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Chico.

Melanie Jean Nielsen, age 57 of Coldspring, Texas, passed away on February 28, 2013. Melanie was born on May 22, 1955, in Houston, Texas, to Eugene and Helen Winsman Breuss.

Melanie is preceded in death by her father; son, Matthew Nielsen; granddaughter, Ariel Nielsen; and sister, Cheri Brandon. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Nielsen, of Coldspring, Texas; daughter, Bridgette Willis, of Coldspring, Texas; daughter, Brandy Nielsen, of New Caney, Texas; grandson, Dustin Willis, of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Brittany Willis, of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Cheyenne Warren, of Coldspring, Texas; mother, Helen Breuss, of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Pamela Breuss, of Aurora, Colorado; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Joe Flores, of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Keith Nielsen, of Shepherd, Texas; brother-in-law, Alan Nielsen, of Coldspring, Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Effie Laverne Ellis, age 85 of Highlands, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at her home. She was born on August 25, 1927, in Goodrich, Texas, to parents, Jessie E. and Emmie Cox Emanuel.

Effie is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jessie Herman Emanuel; and nephew, Bobby Pixley. She is survived by her husband, Billy J. John Edward Stewart
April 12, 1946 to February 26, 2013

John Edward Stewart, age 66 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2013, in Cleveland, Texas. He was born on April 12, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents, John Pershing Stewart and Agnes McClusky Stewart. John served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Suzanne Stewart, and sons, Christian Stewart and Cameron Stewart. John is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, John Paul and Verna Stewart of Cleveland, Texas, and William Magness and Jessica Stewart of Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Cecilia, Aralynn and Kahra; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Dick Hurlocker, Johnece Stewart Pace, Dodie Dicarlo, Marty and John Shaver; numerous other family; and a host of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Elias M. Mercado

Funeral Services for Elias M. Mercado, 72, of Corrigan, Texas will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Corrigan, Texas with Reverend Clifton Labbe, S.V.D. officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Union Springs cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary will be held after the visitation on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with Father Joseph officiating.

Elias M. Mercado was called by God on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at a Lufkin Hospital. Elias was born in Nava, Coahuila Mexico on August 3, 1940 to Beatriz Montoya and Guadalupe Mercado. Elias later moved to Piedras Negras where he married his love Francisca Ortiz de Mercado on April 30, 1961. He was employed and retired in the early 90’s from AHMSA, or known as “La Concha”. During his lifetime he made lots of friends, he never knew a stranger. His friends who stand out, always by his side were Eloy Villareal and Miguel Gonzalez and wife Imelda Camarillo.

Elias was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Corrigan, Texas. He was a devout believer and follower of our Virgin Lady of Guadalupe. He had a love for black and white movies from “La Epoca De Oro”. Favorite music was the classic from Mexico Julio Jaramillo, José Alfredo Jimenez, and Paquita La Del Barrio. He often would entertain his family by singing at gatherings especially if there was a mariachi. Favorite sport was baseball and his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed his afternoons outside with his gatitos and perritos.

He is preceded in death by his mother: Beatriz Montoya; father: Guadalupe Mercado; sisters: Martha and Teressa Mercado; brothers: Pablo Apolinar and Evaristo Mercado; grandson: Pedrito Elias Mercado; biological father: Eduardo Apolinar.
Elias is survived by his wife of 51 years: Francisca Ortiz de Mercado of Corrigan, Texas; son: José E. Mercado and wife Martha of Corrigan, Texas; daughter: Olga A. Oliva of Corrigan, Texas; son: Hector M. Mercado and wife Elia of Pilot Point, Texas; son: Francisco Mercado and wife Aurora of Corrigan, Texas; son: Pedro E. Mercado and wife Lori of Corrigan, Texas; son: Roberto J. Mercado and wife Idalia of Livingston, Texas; grandsons: Roberto C. Mercado, José F. Oliva, Xavier Mercado, Daniel E. Mercado, José E. Mercado, Hector J. Mercado; granddaughters: Jennifer Mercado, Erika Alday, Jessica P. Rodriguez, Monica Mercado, Diana Mercado, Lizzett Mercado, Myranda R. Mercado; seven great grandchildren; brother: Juan A. Mercado of Piedras Negras Coah; sisters: Antonia Mercado and Guadalupe Mercado of Piedras San Juan (Juany) of Corrigan, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Lawrence George Mullins

Lawrence George Mullins of Livingston, Texas was born on February 26, 1924 in Harriman, Tennessee to Henry and Birdie Jones Mullins, passed away on February 25, 2013 at the age of 88. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Wanda; sons, Gary Mullins and wife Vernia Mae, Carl Mullins and George Mullins; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Richard Earl Mullins and Carl Lewis Mullins; sisters, Lucille Spivey, Ima Gene Authur, Mildred Martin and Cecile Pauley. preceded in death by daughters, Peggy Smith and Carol Peveto; son, James Larry Mullins; sister, Ruby Wilson.

Mr. Mullins was a veteran in the United States Navy having served during WWII.

Lawrence and Wanda moved in the area in 1987 where he loved to work in his yard and feeding the squirrels. He was a member of the Local 116 Roofers Union.

Visitation will be on held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 2PM to 6PM at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston, TX. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Houston National cemetery in Houston TX. The VFW Post 4709 of Conroe, Texas will be officiating.

Vonnie Vera Scogin
November 3, 1927 to February 25, 2013

Vonnie Scogin, age 85 of Onalaska, Texas, passed away at her home on February 25, 2013. She was born on November 3, 1927, in Shelby County, Texas.

Mrs. Scogin is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Scogin; two sons, Bobby Woods and John Benny Scogin; and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Treasa Hughes and Kathy Scogin, both of Onalaska, Texas; one son, George Scogin of Lufkin, Texas; six grandchildren, Melissa McDonald of Onalaska, Texas, Preston Scogin of College Station, Texas and Jason Duke and wife, Stephanie of Tucson, Arizona, Sherry Woods, Emily Woods and Tammy Woods, all of Laural, Mississippi; and nineteen great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on February 28, 2013, at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. Rev. Don Wilkey will conduct the service.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas.

Joseph Donnis Brett

Graveside services for Joseph Donnis Brett, 74, of Jasper, Texas, will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Union Springs cemetery in Corrigan, Texas with John Tyler officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Brett was born December 29, 1938 in Camden, Texas and passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Master’s Degree. He worked as an electrical engineer and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired with the distinguished achievement of Lieutenant Commander from the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents: Donnis and Alice (Sellers) Brett and son: Joe Darrell Brett.

Mr. Brett is survived by his wife of 57 years: Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Brett of Jasper, Texas; Donnis and Deborah Brett of Port Arthur, Texas; granddaughter: Connie Marie (Brett) Abshire and husband Jeremy of Ridgechrest, California; great grandson: Brett Andrew Abshire of Ridgechrest, California and numerous other relatives and friends.

April 20, 1944 to February 25, 2013

Cecil Lang Alec, Sr., age 68 of Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, Texas, passed away on February 25, 2013, in Livingston, Texas. He was born on April 20, 1944, in Polk County, Texas, to parents Kinney Alec and Anna belle Sylestine Alec. Cecil was a member of the Indian Village Assembly of God Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Avie Sylestine Alec; brother, Carl Alec; and sister, Mabel Williams. Cecil is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Obrey and Mary Alec of the Reservation; son and daughter-in-law, Lyndon and Rebecca Alec of Livingston, Texas; Cecil, Jr. and Charlene Alec of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Paula Alec of Woodville, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Donna Alec of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Tobine Alec, Logan Alec, Portia Alec, Ryan Alec, Sunshine Alec, Chad Alec, Kiney Alec, Jordan Dow, Micah Robinson, Manning Robinson, Lorna Alec, Kainey Alec and Lincoln Alec; great grandchildren, Lilly-Ann Alec, Dakota Alec, Josiah Alec, Adelyn Dow, Anthony Dow, Ciarra Robinson, Aiylah Robinson and Miyakoda Robinson; and special friends, Iris Fern Williams of the Reservation, and Dario Garcia of the Reservation.

Internment will follow the church service at the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation cemetery at the Indian Reservation.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Indian Reservation Assembly of God Church in Polk County, Texas.
