Jerry Donald Mathis
March 25, 1935 – September 11, 2013

Jerry Donald Mathis, age 78 of Onalaska, Texas passed away on September 11, 2013 at his home in Onalaska. He was born on March 25, 1935 in El Centro, California to parents W.L. “Buck” Mathis and Georgia Lee (Brown) Mathis.

Jerry proudly served our country in the U.S. Army for 25 years. He served in Vietnam and Korea and received numerous medals. He retired on September 30, 1976.

Jerry is preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Tony Wayne Mathis; brother, Walter Lee Mathis; brother, Melvin Ray Mathis; younger sister, Thurzia Faye Mathis Corker; brother, Robert “Bobby” Wayne Mathis; and two nephews. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mathis of Onalaska; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Annette Freeman and Kevin of Palestine; son and daughter-in-law, Craig Hopkins and Heidi of Cypress; grandson, Clayton Shane Goss and Carissa of Garrison; grandchildren, Amanda Annette Goss and Jason of Crystal Beach, Halle Hopkins, Camden Hopkins, and Chloe Hopkins; 3 great-granddaughters, Cailin Goss, Kelsie Petitt, and Caylee Goss; siblings, R. Alene Mathis Cunningham, Gerald Glen Mathis, and Linda Kay Mathis Smith; 22 nieces and nephews; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Jerry will be escorted to his grave by the Patriot Guard Riders and his pallbearers, Kenneth Smith, Jimmy Cunningham, Kevin Smith, Kerry Smith, Jerry Mathis, David Mathis, Lance Mathis, and Tony Mathis. Honorary pallbearers include, Dr. Steven Feld, Dr. B. Reddy, Kevin Freeman and Clayton Goss.

Services for Jerry Mathis will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Rev. James Frazier will be officiating. Interment icon will follow at Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas. Military Honors will be provided Ft. Polk Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2013, at 5:00 PM, also at Cochran Funeral Home.

Walter A. Cones III
March 25, 1932 - September 12, 2013

Walter Amos Cones III, age 81 of Leggett, Texas, passed away in Lufkin, Texas on Thursday, September 12, 2013. Mr. Cones was born on March 25, 1932 to Houston, Texas to parents, Walter Amos Cones, Sr. and Ruth (Elender) Cones. He was married to Rita Cones. He worked for the Texas Highway Department and was also a barber. He was involved in the Masonic Lodge during his early years.

Mr. Cones is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Cones; wife, Rita Cones; twin brothers, Roy and Ray Cones; brother, Sonny Cones; and two grandsons, Shane Ray Fan and Rodney Lynn McCandless. He is survived by his daughter, Latrell Cupit of Leggett; daughter, Pamela Collier of Leggett; daughter and spouse, Brenda Thompson and Larry of Groesbeck; son, Walter Amos Cones, IV of Leggett; daughter, Rhonda McCandless of Humble; son, William Ray Cones of Leggett; grandchildren, Randy, Shawn, Jamie, Ron, Aaron, Jeffrey, Lee, Misty, Dana, Brandi, Ashley, and Chassity; great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Destiny, Shyli, Cathryne, Kaelyn, Karly-Jo, and Monica; siblings, Carol Kay Babbs; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Cones will be escorted to his grave by pallbearers, Randall Hendry, Timmy Cones, Brian Hickman, Jamie Sumner, Ron Sumner and Kenny Babbs.

Services for Walter Cones will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Rev. Harold Isaacs will conduct the service. Interment icon will follow at Jones Prairie cemetery in Leggett, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston.

TAMMY SUE HUNT
March 4, 1976 to September 9, 2013

Tammy Sue Hunt, age 37 of Livingston, Texas passed away in Houston, Texas on Monday, September 9, 2013. She was born in Lima, Ohio on March 4, 1976 to parents, Everett Branham and Vickie Stengel Branham.

Tammy is survived by her four daughters, Deyana Hunt, Kwajalyn Branham, Judasha Hunt (Taylor Michelle Reardon), and Shaterial Branham (Sha Ann Reardon); fiance, Kasey Calip of Livingston, Texas; father, Everett Branham of Livingston, Texas; mother, Vickie Lump of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; sister, Michelle Hinson of Lancaster, South Carolina; numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Billy Joe “BJ” Freitag

Billy Joe “BJ” Freitag, 82, passed away September 8, 2013 with his daughters surrounding him. He was born on Feb. 26, 1931 in Oak Hill, Texas to Rev. George and Dorothy Freitag. He married and started his family in 1951. In 1960 BJ moved his family to Houston. There he started his beloved Star Concrete Construction Company and spent the next 35 years growing it into a successful business. He served as President of the Houston Contractor’s Association and was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. BJ. is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Patricia, his parents, two brothers, Bobby and Boyd and son, James. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Horton and husband Art, Debbie Baker and husband Rick, Pam Dyson and husband Brad, sister, Betty Anderson, brothers, Boyce and Brent, 11 grandchildren, 16 great -grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 am at Jersey Village Baptist Church, 16518 Jersey Drive, Houston, 77040, with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society.

BJ will be fondly remembered and will be greatly missed.

Herbert Wayne Gassiott

Funeral services for Herbert Wayne Gassiott, 74, of Corrigan, Texas, will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Lesly Wilkinson. Interment icon will follow in the Stryker cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas.

Mr. Gassiott was born November 18, 1938 in Polk County, Texas and passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Lufkin, Texas. He was member and deacon of the Stryker Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas. He worked all his life as a rancher and logger. He loved anything with four legs especially cattle and horses. He was a devoted husband and father and was a generous and hardworking man. He was well known for his story telling and tall tales. He is preceded in death by his parents: Elmer Joseph Gassiott and Gussie Mae (Deggs) Gassiott.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Vera L. (Falkner) Gassiott of Corrigan, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law: Tammy and Bobby Maxey of Corrigan, Texas, Nancy and Todd Stevens of Lufkin, Texas; grandchildren: Amanda and Jason Watson of Oakdale, Louisiana; April Maxey of Corrigan, Texas; William Maxey of Corrigan, Texas; Brittain and Briley Stevens of Lufkin, Texas; great grandchildren: Lexi Hankla, Jack Hankla, Lillie Grace Watson; brothers and sisters: Illene and Corley Parker of Willis, Texas, Annie Rocka of Corrigan, Texas, Earl and Virginia Gassiott of Port Neches, Texas, Nathan Gassiott of Corrigan, Texas, Joe and Barbara Gassiott of Waskom, Texas, Donald Gassiott of Corrigan, Texas, Rebecca Bocanegra of Huntsville, Texas, Linda and Tommy Richmond of Corrigan, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Special friend: James Arthur “Cuz” Deggs.

Patricia Ann Sinclair
May 21, 1931 to September 7, 2013

Patricia Ann Sinclair, age 82 of Livingston, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Livingston, Texas. She was born on May 21, 1931 in Abilene, Texas to parents, Cody and Opal Powell Graham.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Waymon Sinclair of Livingston, Texas; two sons and two daughters-in-law and one daughter, Lewis and Susan Sinclair of Cedar Park, Texas, Vicki Lynn Sinclair of Seabrook, Texas, Byron and Lisa Sinclair of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Ashley Sinclair, Abbey Sinclair, Victoria Graham and Alexander Graham; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jo Ann Graham of San Angelo, Texas; three sister, Jody Jett of San Angelo, Texas, Peggy Chase of Mobile, Alabama and Maxine Bunyard of San Angelo, Texas.

Visitation was held at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Donald Maurice Hilton Sr.

Donald Maurice Hilton Sr. born on September 5, 1953 in Livingston, Texas to Earl Hilton and Doris Elizabeth Blackerby Hilton, passed away on September 5, 2013 in Broaddus, Texas at the age of 60. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Wendy Bates Hilton; sons, Donald Hilton Jr., William Hilton and Donnie Paul Hilton; brothers, Ed Hilton and David Hilton; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Jackie Hilton; mother in law, Sandra Hilton; sister, Samantha Hilton; grandparents. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Dale Alton Rockford
February 8, 1927 – September 4, 2013

Dale Alton Rockford, known as Rocky to everyone, was born on February 8, 1927 in Battle Creek, Nebraska. Rocky embarked upon a career in the US Army. He proudly served in World War II, two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was on call for the Bay of Pigs. Rocky has a box full of medals for his service to America. After World War II ended Rocky met his German wife, Edie. Edie is from Berlin, Germany. They were married for 65 years, upon his untimely demise. The couple had one daughter, Pamela Lynn Rockford, a retired hematologist.

After 20 years of serving our country, Rocky retired from the military. He accepted a position with the Federal Reserve Bank in Houston, Texas. When he retired from the Fed, he and his wife moved to their second home in Livingston, Texas.

Rocky and Edie were very active with VFW Post #8568. Rocky’s stone marker is prominently displayed at the front of the VFW. He was a Honor Guard for many years. Rocky was known by his friendly smile and the ease in which he could have a conversation with anyone. You would often hear him singing or humming the song, “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You.”

Rocky and his family lived in many regions. His friends are all over the globe.

His favorite past time was to travel in his R.V. He was a member of the Escapees Club in Livingston, Texas. Long retired from the military, yet you could always see your reflection in his freshly polished boots.

Rocky wants everyone to celebrate his life, share stories, and rejoice that he is now with our Heavenly Father. He asked for no funeral.
