John Jeffery Collins
November 4, 1947 – November 16, 2013

God has called a saint home. John Jeffery Collins, 66, of Livingston, Texas, returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday morning, November 16, 2013. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with his cousin and friend, Pastor Danny Moye officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home.

Johnny was born November 4, 1947 in Livingston. With guidance and love from his late mother and father, John Matison and Anice (Overstreet) Collins, Johnny graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1966 and then went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in 1975. He was a dedicated member of the Living Word Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After retiring from 31 years of service with Southwestern Bell, Johnny built Sportsman’s Choice Taxidermy and enjoyed creating works of art for his friends and family. Throughout the years Johnny served his community in many ways. Most recently he was on the Board of Directors at Lake Livingston Village. He also served as Fire Marshall for Holiday Lake Estates Fire Department, and was a board member of the Holiday Lake Estates Fire Department and the Goodrich Fire Department. He was a member of the Boys State at Big Sandy High School, the Huntsville Jayces, coach for the Huntsville Little Dribblers and an Exalted Ruler of the Huntsville Elks Lodge.

On a quiet afternoon, at the movies Johnny met his best friend, Carol. After a burger and a float and a few months, with the love and support of Carol’s late parents, Tom and Lila Pegoda, the sweethearts were married . Forty-five years, many movies, burgers and floats later, they still looked across the room and knew they were meant for one another. Throughout the years Johnny served God, his country and his family. He taught his boys how to hunt, fish and was the ultimate peacemaker for his sons. As his children grew so did his family. His sons and daughters-in-laws, John Matthew and Marie Collins of Huntsville, Robert Danny and Brandy Collins of Baytown, will be forever grateful to the man that showed them what it truly means to be a family. Pawpaw always had a word of advice, helping hand and movie for his grandchildren: Jacob, Jeffery, Jarred, Nicole, Madison, and Drew. Johnny and his sister were more than siblings, they were friends. When Danette Wolverton of Allen, Texas, married her husband, John Wolverton, and moved to the Dallas area, they still called one another for support, guidance, and friendship. Johnny’s family continued to grow and fill with laughter and good times with his nieces and nephews, Danna, Koby, Christy, Jagger and Josh. Johnny always made time to visit with his numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. During the last year he has shared many good times with Carol and his friends and neighbors of Lake Livingston Village, while nurturing his love of shopping and airplanes.

John Jeffery Collins lived a fulfilling life on earth and will spend his everlasting life with His Father in Heaven.
