Dolores V. Snead

Dolores V. Snead, 91 of Livingston, Texas passed away Friday, November 8th, 2013, at Tall Pines Assisted Living Center in Livingston, Texas.

Dolores was born January 3, 1922, the daughter of Joseph Simon Sr. and Helen (Duggan) Simon in Thompson, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Thompson and attended Mayville ND State College.

Dolores enlisted in the military on May 26, 1944, serving with the United States Navy. She took her basic training at NTS, Bronx New York, attended school for 8 weeks at NTS, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and was then assigned to Armed Guard Center (Pacific) on Treasure Island, San Francisco, California – where she served in meritorious service performed as legal yeoman. Dolores was honorably discharged on August 1, 1946 with the rank of Yeoman 1st Class.

It was in the Navy that Dolores met her husband, Harry J. Snead at Treasure Island, San Francisco, California where they were both stationed. Harry and Dolores were married on August 26, 1946 after their discharge from the Navy. They moved to Houston, Texas where Harry was employed by the City of Houston and Dolores was employed by United States Railroad Retirement Board. Harry and Dolores were avid fishers and loved spending time at Port Isabel and various lakes around the country. After retirement, they moved to rural Livingston where they raised cattle until Harry’s death in 1989. Dolores remained in their home until moving to Tall Pines in June 2013.

Dolores was active in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and was in the Volunteer Auxiliary at Livingston Memorial Hospital.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Simon, husband, Harry Snead, brother, James R. Simon, and sisters, June Simon and Joanne Noreen. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Simon, Jr. and wife Sue of Thompson, ND; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Donna Dittfurth, Allison Dittfurth- (Houston, Texas), Kyle, Robin & Knox Dittfurth (Weatherford, TX); nieces and nephews, Lynette and Kent Nygaard (Colorado Springs, CO), Kay Hallen (Sydney, Australia), Larry Simon and Cynthia Craig (East Lansing, MI), Tina & Skip Ruis (Stanchfield, MN), Charlie Noreen and Casey Noreen (Grand Forks, ND); great-nieces and nephews, Jamie Hallen, Alexandra Hallen, & Jesse Hallen (Sydney, Australia), Joseph Simon (Milwaukee, WI), Camilla Simon (Nashville, TN), Nathanael Putbrese & Max Putbrese (Cambridge, MN), Kaitlyn Noreen (Grand Forks, ND), Alexis Noreen (Plymouth, MN), Conner Noreen (Grand Forks, ND), extended family, and a host of very special friends.

Services are as follows:

Funeral Mass – Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM (St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Livingston, Texas)
Burial – Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:15 PM (Houston Nation cemetery, Houston, Texas)

Claude Elliott Love, Jr.
March 18, 1944 – November 7, 2013

A memorial service for Claude Elliott Love, Jr. will be held Monday, November 11, 2013, at 2:00 PM, at the home of David Love: 1860 Apache Dr. Montgomery, Texas 77316.

Mr. Love, 69, of Livingston, Texas was born on March 18, 1944 in Fulton, Missouri, to parents, Claude Elliott Love, Sr. and Delores (Moser) Love and passed away on November 7, 2013 in Livingston, Texas. He is survived by his son, David Love and wife Kim of Montgomery, Texas; son, Scott Love and wife Angela of Montgomery, Texas; daughter, Renee Bosquet and husband Rob of Boston, Massachusetts; sisters, Shirley Rentfro and husband Ron, Susan Claffey, and Cynthia Johnson; extended family, Montan and Monica Montemayor; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Claude was a construction worker during his lifetime, and was also a caring father and grandfather to many.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or The Boot Campaign.

Carmileta A. Hackett
May 17, 1938 – November 7, 2013

A memorial service for Carmileta A. Hackett will be held Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Onalaska, Texas with Pastor Larry Shine officiating.

Carmileta A. Hackett, 75, of Onalaska, Texas was born on May 17, 1938 in Dexter, Kansas, to parents, Levi and Ilda (Guthrie) Reed and passed away on November 7, 2013 in Lufkin, Texas. She is preceded in death by both of her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Karl Schiefelbein of Phoenix, Arizona; husband, Dennis Maywald of Onalaska, Texas; and best friend of 53 years, Nickie Robbins.

James Alvis Nettles

Funeral services for James Alvis Nettles, 86, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, Texas with Rev. James Frazier, Rev. Don Willis, Rev. Paul Woodworth, and Rev. Wayne Bickley officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Peebles cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home.

Mr. Nettles was born October 4, 1927 in Livingston, Texas and passed away November 4, 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Polk County, Texas, graduated from Livingston High School, and attended the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, Texas. He proudly served his country in the Company L 160th Infantry Regiment in the Korean War from 1950-1952 and will have military honors at Peebles cemetery provided by the VFW Post 8568. After his service in the military, Mr. Nettles worked in the oil industry and for the Texas Highway Department. He later went on to survey for the Lake Livingston Dam Project, supervise the clearing for the Trinity River Authority, and went on to start his own business, Nettles Construction. Mr. Nettles was a lifelong cattle rancher, member of Texas Southwestern Cattle Raiser Association, Polk County Farm Bureau, VFW Post 8568, and American Legion 312. He loved outdoor hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and trapping and also enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is preceded in death by his parents: John “Jack” C. Nettles and Katie (Maze) Nettles; sister: Jewell Nettles; brothers: Jack Nettles, Glenn Nettles, and Kenneth Nettles; grandson: Robert Rustin Rowe.

Mr. Nettles is survived by his wife of 59 years: Mary (Bailey) Nettles of Livingston, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law: Arlene and John Richardson of Livingston, Texas, and Elaine and Jerry Minter of Corrigan, Texas; son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Timber Lee Nettles of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren: Monica Gunter, Jeremy Richardson, Jamie Jones and husband Mark, Jana Starr and Brian, Rachel Arbuckle and husband Chad, Craig Nettles, Kevin Nettles; great grandchildren: Sara Gunter, Riley and Ryan Richardson, Cole and Trent Jones, Connor and Kaleigh Starr, Jett and Kort Arbuckle, Kade Nettles; brothers and sisters-in-law: Wilson Nettles of Livingston, Texas, Aubrey Earl and Novie Nettles of Goodrich, Texas, Elmer and Hilda Nettles of Livingston, Texas, Floyd and Margie Nettles of Deer Park, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law: Faye and Bob Hamilton of Spring, Texas, Dene and Lee Courtney of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Bettie and Pablo Paredes of Livingston, Texas; sisters-in-law: Barbara Nettles of Livingston, Texas, Cathy Richardson of Livingston, Texas, Rita Nettles of Livingston, Texas; in-laws: Leon and Georgia Bailey, Fannie Bussey, George and Mildred Bailey, Gene and Mary Bailey; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and lifelong friends.
Pallbearers: Jeremy Richardson, Craig Nettles, Kevin Nettles, Mickey Nettles, Mark Jones, Brian Starr, Chad Arbuckle, Jacque Delahoussaye.

Dana Ruth Baggett
April 9, 1933 – November 7, 2013

Funeral Services for Dana Ruth Baggett, 80, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM, at the Livingston Church of Christ with Lindell Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Dana Baggett was born on April 9, 1933 in Ballinger, Texas to parents, Gordon E. and Eudora P. (Taylor) Baggett and passed away on November 7, 2013 in Livingston, Texas. She graduated from Pearland High School and attended Massey Business College. She then worked as a secretary with Health and Human Services for 35 years.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Baggett of Shepherd, Texas and sister, Margaret Sheldon of La Vista, Nebraska.

Anthony Dewayne McQueen “Bumpy”

Anthony Dewayne McQueen “Bumpy” born July 17, 1977 in Lufkin, Texas to Jessie B. McQueen and Charlie Cooper, passed away on October 28, 2013 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 36. Anthony attended school at Corrigan-Camden ISD. He was interested in music and art. Anthony served as a caregiver at A Caring Home.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memories: Mother: Jessie McQueen; Son: Devonte D. McQueen; Brothers: Steve (Cal) McQueen, Eugene (Bridgett)McQueen Branch, Richard Dale Gray, Tommy Cooper, Charlie (Doris) Cooper Jr., Richard Lee (Centa)Cooper, Gerald Robinson; Sisters: Anglia McQueen Criswell, Ruth Cooper, Sabrina (Richard) Jackson, Rosalinda (Douglas) Wright.
He is preceded in death by Father Charlie Cooper.

Services for Anthony will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at First Community Missionary Baptist Church, Leggett, Texas Rev. Curtis Hester, Pastor. Interment icon will follow at Carrington cemetery, Seven Oaks, Texas. Pastor Kenneth Darden will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to service time, beginning at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2013, also at First Community Missionary Baptist Church, Leggett, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Charles Mortuary, Livingston, Texas.

Virgie Lorene Simmons

Virgie Lorene Simmons, born on September 24, 1922 in Segno, Texas to James C. Wiggins and Lucy Williford Wiggins entered into rest on November 3, 2013 at the age of 91. Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, J. W. Wiggins; sister, Frances Roth; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Virgie is preceded in death by both her parents; husband, E.F. Simmons; brother, J.C. Wiggins and Marvin Wiggins.

Visitation will be at Pace Funeral Home located at 200 FM 350 North Livingston, Texas on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 between 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Celebration of Virgie’s Life will be held at Pace Funeral Home on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 12:00 PM. Mr. Scott Taylor will be officiating. Private interment will be held at Big Sandy cemetery in Dallardsville, Texas.

Evelyn Loraine Brooks

Funeral services for Evelyn Lorraine Brooks, 77, of Cleveland, Texas, will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Richard Gray officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Peebles cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Mrs. Brooks was born December 16, 1935 in Clarke, Texas and passed away Monday, November 4, 2013 in Cleveland, Texas. She was a housewife all her life. She is preceded in death by her parents: Harvey Henry Johnson and Biddie (Morgan) Johnson; husband: Terry Winslow Brooks; and son-in-law: Caleb Larsen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Terry and Mary Brooks; daughter: Linda Larsen; daughters and sons-in-law: Sheila and Eugene Hinson, Biddie and Joe Butler, Tina and Ronnie Fry; son and daughter-in-law: Douglas and Evelyn Brooks; brother and sister-in-law: Rev. Edward H. and Johnnie Johnson; 19 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Robert Smith, Brandon Fry, Richard Fry, Joe Butler Jr., Clint Millican, Justin Pitts.

Carol Jean Fair
July 31, 1930 – November 5, 2013

Carol Jean Fair, age 83 of Livingston, Texas passed away on November 5, 2013. She was born on July 31, 1930 in Livingston, to parents, Joe and Bessie (McGee) Fisher.

Carol married Vernon Fair on February 23, 1948 in their hometown of Livingston, Texas.

Carol is preceded in death by both of her parents, Joe and Bessie Fisher and her son, Michael Fair. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Fair; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Ron Essenpreis of Nokomis, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Bonnie Fair of Bayou Vista, Texas; grandchildren, Emily Fair, Austin Fair, Matthew Fair, Sean Bradshaw and wife Dianne, and Timothy Fair; great-granddaughter, Allyson Fair; along with a host of other family and friends.

Cochran Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

JP Watson

JP Watson (Pete) passed away peacefully in his sleep Nov. 1. 2013 at his home in Little Rock, AR. after a long battle with cancer. Pete was a long time resident of Baytown and the Lake Livingston area. He was a 62 year member of the Masons, a member of Masonic Lodge 14 in Livingston, was very active in the Shriners and he and his wife were past Matron and past Patron at Livingston 1139, Order of the Eastern Stars. He served two years in the Army in Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nokee and Walter Watson, a brother Edward Watson and two step-children from a previous marriage, Bobbie Sue Clevenger and Sandy Williamson.

He is survived by his wife, Sonia, 3 children, Helen Jones (Carol), of Houston, TX. Doyle Watson (Debbie), of Cleveland, TX, Eva Ruth Porras (Frank), of Baytown, TX, 2 step-children Brenda Donaldson (Jerry) of Little Rock, AR, Linda McDaniel (Doug), of Jefferson City, MO., and 3 step-children from a previous marriage, JoLynne Olstrum (Larry), Kathleen Coleman, of Carlile, TX and Jerry Williamson of Mississippi. Five brothers, Bill Watson (Grace), George Watson (Robin), Pat Watson (Della), Donny Watson (Barbara), Mike Watson (Libby), one sister Martha Waymirre (James), 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

This was a man always willing to give a helping hand when needed and is going to be missed by many. The respect for friends a person leaves behind is a man's greatest legacy.

He loved fishing and hunting and after cremation, his ashes will be taken to Lake Livingston as this was the place he cherished the most. Pete, you will be missed beyond measure.

A Funeral Service will be held in his honor on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday evening 6-8 pm. all at Pace Funeral Home 200 FM 350 N.

Hugh Francis Sharum

Hugh Francis Sharum born on April 6, 1941 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to James Michael Sharum and Katherine Thron Sharum, entered into eternal peace on November 1, 2013 at the age of 72. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pamela Yother Sharum; children, Stacy Henry and husband Robert, Neil Sharum, Tanya Wilson and husband Lonnie and Travis Sharum and wife Brandi; brothers, Jim Sharum, Urban Sharum and Raymond Sharum; sister, Kay Popevis; 15 grandchildren, Kasi Ghaemmaghami, Kami Wilson, Kayla and Kurt Wilson, Jacob and Tessa Sharum, Blake Sharum, Alex, Hannah, Sophie, Lillie, and Luke Sharum, Shayna Parlette, Melissa Henry and Calen Henry; 7 great grandchildren, Anna and Emma Ghaemmaghami, Layna Berry, Jordan and Ava Parlette, Riley Adams and Brycen Henry; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Hugh is preceded in death by both of his parents; 1 great grandchild, Brentley Henry.

Hugh loved to go hunting, fishing, and taking care of his garden. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sport events. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be at Pace Funeral Home located at 200 FM 350 North Livingston, Texas on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Father Clifton Labbe, S.V.D. will be officiating. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the charity of your choice.
