John Wiley Mayo, Jr.

John Wiley Mayo, Jr., born on May 2, 1920 in Maryville, Louisiana to John Wiley Mayo, Sr. and Bertha Bennett Mayo, passed away on January 31, 2014 at the age of 93. Those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Sherry Mayo; son, David Mayo and wife Nannette, granddaughter, Kristen Smith & husband Fenis; great-grandson Alek Smith; close friends, Dr. Jerry Gilliam & wife Jackie, and Jim Greer & wife Dorothy. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marzell Mayo, brother, Dick Mayo and sister, Ruby Johnson. John was a supervisor for 38 years with International Paper out of Pasadena, Texas.

Visitation will be held at Pace Funeral Home located at 200 FM 350 North, Livingston, Texas on Monday, February 3, 2014 between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M. A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Pace Funeral Home with Pastor Don Davis officiating. Pallbearers will be Jerry Gilliam, Bob Cella, Jimmy McDaniels, Joey St. Francis, Jerry Estes and Fenis Smith. Interment icon will follow at Center Hill cemetery.

Johnson Howard Hilton
September 27, 1925 – February 1, 2014

Johnson Howard Hilton of Livingston passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the age of 88. Howard was born September 27, 1925, in the community of West Tempe near Livingston to Walter Carson Hilton and Francisca Augustine Johnson Hilton. He attended elementary school in West Tempe, graduating from Livingston High School in 1943.

In 1959, he married Jo Imogene Richardson in the Livingston First Baptist Church, where he was an active and dedicated member for sixty years. In 1986, Howard retired from Champion International where he had worked since 1947, fulfilling forty years of service.

Howard Hilton is survived by his wife, Imogene Hilton, and four sons, Bruce Ott and wife, Bobbie, of Livingston, Dale Ott and wife, Trish of Neches, Gary Ott of Lakeway and Tracy Hilton and wife, Amy of Livingston. Howard is also survived by seven grandchildren, Courtney Ott Kuban and husband, Robert of Nacogdoches, Adam Ott and wife, Jessica of Houston, Ryan Ott of Neches, Brannon Ott of Neches, Katie Hilton of Livingston, Matthew Hilton of Livingston, and Amber Hilton of Livingston. Two great-grandchildren, Carter Ott and Reese Ott of Houston, complete the immediate family. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dorothy Louise Hilton (1925), and his two brothers, Carl Hilton (1968) and Willard “Chap” Hilton (2001). He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hilton of Lufkin and a brother-in-law, Harvey Hargraves of The Woodlands, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home of Livingston. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Cochran Funeral Home with interment at Livingston’s Forest Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers are Adam Ott, Ryan Ott, Brannon Ott, Robert Kuban, Tom Hilton, and Steven Hilton. Honorary pallbearers are J.T. Grimes, Steve Townley, Matthew Hilton, Bobby Lowe, Leroy Myrow, and Harvey Hargraves.

Lee Ola Laird
December 10, 1913 – January 30, 2014

Funeral services for Lee Ola Laird, 100, of Livingston, Texas will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Mike Meadows officiating. Interment icon will follow at Center Grove cemetery in Polk County, Texas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. until service time on Monday.

Lee Ola Laird was born on December 10, 1913 in Livingston, Texas and passed away on January 30, 2014 in Livingston, Texas. She worked as an LVN for numerous hospitals and schools. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Ola (Kimes) Duff; husband, Sherman C. Laird; and sisters, Dollie Farmer, Lucille Clay, Marie Repp and Margaret Campbell.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bob Claiborne of Greensboro, NC; son, James Laird of Livingston, TX; grandchildren, Cheryl Claiborne of Greensboro, NC, Debra Peskin of Stewartsville, NJ, and Molly Claiborne-Iskorkutan of Taipei, Taiwan; great-grandchildren, Amanda Spence of Greensboro, NC, Samantha Peskin of Stewartsville, NJ, Max Peskin of Stewartsville, NJ, Eren Iskorkutan of Taipei, Taiwan, and Yasemin Iskorkutan of Taipei, Taiwan; great-great-grandson, Parker Spence of Greensboro, NC; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Noel Grover Nelson
January 15, 1942 – January 29, 2014

A memorial service to Noel Grover Nelson, 72, of Onalaska, Texas, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Don Wilkey officiating.

Noel was born on January 15, 1942 in Mena, Arkansas and passed away on January 29, 2014 in Livingston, Texas. He was raised in Galveston for the majority of his life and worked as a Correctional Officer for TDCJ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Swede and Greta Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Nelson of Onalaska, Texas; daughter, Kay Kantowski; son, Kevin Nelson; son, Kenneth Nelson; step-daughter, Sheila Robitaille; step-son, Mark Gragg; grandchildren, Alia Robitaille, Alyssa Gragg, Tyler Gragg, Tanner Gragg, Kayleigh Kantowski, Kendall Kantowski, and Zachary Nelson; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Services for Lorie Wayne Ellinwood, age 57, of Livingston, Texas, will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Harold Isaacs officiating. Visitation will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday evening, just prior to service time.

Lorie was born on January 10, 1957 in Ft. Worth, Texas and passed away on January 27, 2014 in Livingston, Texas. She worked as a secretary for a dental office. She is preceded in death by her father, Donald Riley.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Riley and Paula Ellinwood of Livingston, Texas; granddaughter, Kailynn Ellinwood of Livingston, Texas; mother, Monte Riley of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Kyle Willbanks; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Frances Ann Dement
January 9, 1935 – January 29, 2014

Funeral services for Frances Ann Dement, 79, of Moscow, Texas, will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Arliss Glass, Rev. Rich Glass, Rev. Jason Scisco, and Rev. Ronnie Frankens officiating. Interment icon will follow at Holhausen-Darby cemetery in Moscow, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday morning, just prior to service time.

Frances Ann Dement was born on January 9, 1935 in Bering, Texas and passed away on January 29, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of The Church Triumphant in Pasadena, Texas. She is preceded in death by parents, Hardy and Mary (Frankens) Brock and her brother, Theo Myers.

She is survived by her husband, Roland “Buddy” Dement; son and daughter-in-law, Joel Dement and Kim; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Kahanek and Pat; son, Shelby Dement; grandchildren, Laura Hebert, Emily McVety and Joey, Colton Dement, Misty Proler and Ryan, Savannah Wilson, Nicholas Dement, Stacey Dement, and Dustin Kahanek; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Weatherly and Ronnie; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd Brock and Carol; brother and sister-in-law, John Brock and Shirley; sister and brother-in-law, Loyce Kennedy and Duane; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Frances will be escorted to her grave by pallbearers, Ray Myers, Nicholas Myers, Hardy Brock, Chad Brock, Ronnie Johnson, and Nicholas Dement.

September 15, 1930 – February 10, 2014

Funeral services for Dorothy Colleen Estes, 83, of Livingston, Texas will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Rev. David Busby officiating. Interment icon will follow at Camp Ruby cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, Sunday, up until service time.

Dorothy was born on September 15, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away on February 10, 2014 in Livingston, Texas. She worked as a waitress and was a member of the Indian Village Assembly of God Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Jessie (Morris) Estes; son, Michael Kersh; brother, Eugene Estes; and sister, Louise McCoy.

She is survived by her daughter, Eva Zornes and husband Gary of Felicity, Ohio; sons, Joe Kersh and fiancé Kate of River Creek, California and Jerry Schneider of Texas City, Texas; grandchildren, Becky White, Eric Sjolander, Christina Kersh, Albert Kersh, Andrea Bramel, Gary Zornes Jr., and Myrissa Zornes; great-grandchildren, Destiny Carlisle, Antasia Hart-White, Wade White II, and Della Bramel; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Florene Murphy Burrows
February 4, 1921 – February 7, 2014

Funeral services for Florene Murphy Burrows of Livingston, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Soda Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Bill Jackson and Chuck McLaurin officiating. Interment icon will follow at Camp Ruby cemetery with Bro. Mitchell Murphy officiating.

Florene was born on February 4, 1921 in Livingston, Texas and passed away on February 7, 2014 at Pine Ridge Health Care in Livingston. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Benjamin Burrows; son, James Walter Burrows; parents, Walter and Turner Murphy; sisters, Helen Murphy Mitchell, Rebecca Murphy Wyatt, Ione Murphy Bernard, Lillian Murphy O’Quinn; and brother, Frank Murphy.

She is survived by sons, Frank Curtis Burrows and Dan Floyd Burrows of Livingston; daughter, LaNeigh Burrows Harkness, of Livingston; daughter-in-law, Linda Burrows of Round Rock; grandchildren, Sherman Burrows and wife, Shari of Austin, Volney Griffin and Shawn Griffin of Livingston, Joshua Burrows and wife Sunny of Livingston, Kelsey Burrows of Livingston, step-grandchildren Keith Howard and wife Kara of Livingston, and Kent Medford and wife Danita of Austin; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kiley Burrows of Austin, Hayden and Kathryn Griffin of Livingston, Joshua James Burrows of Livingston, Chloe and Curtis Findley of Livingston; step-great-grandchildren, Kyndall, Keagan and Kannon Howard of Livingston, Dylan and Dalton Medford of Austin.

Florene is also survived by one brother, Dan Burrows and wife, Nancy of Livingston; two sisters, Alma Cude of Livingston and Joyce Jones and husband, Herman of Spring; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Florene will be escorted to her grave by pallbearers, Marshall Murphy, Frank Norman Murphy, Jerry Murphy, David Murphy, Danny Murphy and Mark Barrett. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Bernard, Clyde Payne, Dennis Jones, Bro Lolo, Mike Murphy and Johnny Barrett.

Frank Charles Polite
October 11, 1977 – February 11, 2014

Funeral services for Frank Charles Polite, 36, of Livingston, Texas will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation Multi-Purpose Center in Livingston, Texas. Visitation and a wake service will begin at 6:00 PM, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Frank was born on October 11, 1977 in Lawton, Oklahoma and passed away on February 11, 2014 in Houston, Texas. He worked as a youth aid for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Polite of the Reservation; parents, Ardie and Maxine Polite of the Reservation; grandmother, Bernice Polite of the Reservation; daughters, Tristan Polite and Haley Polite of the Reservation; brother, Armand Polite of the Reservation; sisters, Jeana Dickens of Dallardsville, Texas, Tami Zinn of Livingston, Texas, and Mandy Sylestine of Katy, Texas; nephew, Drew Polite; nieces, Joey Dickens, Andi Dickens, Lauren Polite, Chloe Sylestine, Elisa Zinn, and Maddie Zinn; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Tobine Alec, Gilman Abbey, Max Silverhorn, Daniel Williams, Cedric Polite, Rodman Sylestine, Neil Dickens, and Kirk Sylestine.

Honorary Pallbearers: Brandon Polite, Ian Zinn, Mark Langley, Chris Abbey, Carlos Bullock, Logan Alec, Lonnie Williams, Delvin Polite, Elgin Poncho, and Travis Crosby.

Dale Edwin Hamaker
March 3, 1929 – February 9, 2014

Dale Edwin Hamaker, 84, began a new chapter of his life in the place prepared for him by his Lord on February 9, 2014. Dale was born and raised outside of Leesville, Louisiana. He graduated from LSU in August 1950 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and was a member of the ROTC. After graduation, he served in the Army Engineering Corps in Korea and then worked in Texas for Texaco for almost 30 years. He also worked for Goldking Production/Goldrus Drilling Co. and later started an oil company, Petromac, Inc. in December 1985.

Dale was married to his high school sweetheart, Chlora Dell Conerly for 56 years before her death in 2006. He is also preceded in death by his parents Clark W. Hamaker and Dovie McRae Hamaker. Dale is survived by his children David Hamaker of Richmond, Texas; Diane and her husband Jimmy Thomas of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Arielle and her husband Kody Martinez, Gabby Hamaker, Rachel, Kristen, and Amber Thomas, and great-granddaughter Bailee Martinez. Survivors also include his brother Jackie Hamaker and his wife Margie, sister Barbara Bowles, and sister Judy and her husband Randell McCullough, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love and honor him.

Dale’s distinguished life was characterized by hard work, determination, faith, and family. After serving his country in Korea, he moved to Texas and commenced work with Texaco as a Civil Engineer. He was transferred to many places along the Texas Gulf Coast, including Sinton, Alice, Freer, Corpus Christi, El Campo, and finally Houston where he lived from 1968 to 1993. During his time in Houston, Dale continued to work for Texaco until 1978, then joined Goldking Production Company as a Vice President. In 1985 Dale and a business partner started their own oil production company, Petromac, Inc. with production in Anderson, Harris, and Colorado Counties.

Dale and Chlora moved to Onalaska, TX in 1993 where they spent many happy years overlooking Lake Livingston. Dale was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, as well as a Third Degree Mason. He was active in many community and professional organizations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers, AARP, DMA, and Methodist Men. During his time in Houston, he was an active member of Fair Haven United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board. Dale loved the outdoors and spent his spare time hunting, fishing, traveling around the world, and spending time with his family. Dale was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and child of God. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, TX. One of Dale’s best friends, Reverend Don Willis, will preside over the Funeral Service on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, 2801 US HWY 190W, Livingston, Texas. A graveside service and interment will take place the same day at 4:00 p.m. at Self cemetery in Anacoco, Louisiana. Immediately following the service in Livingston, friends are invited to join the family for lunch in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in Dale’s memory be made to First United Methodist Church of Livingston, 2801 US HWY 190W, Livingston, TX 77351 or MD Anderson Cancer Research.

Jack Caddel
October 28, 1925 – February 8, 2014

A graveside service for Jack Caddel, 88, of Onalaska, Texas will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Honor Guard Post #8568.

Mr. Caddel was born on October 28, 1925 in Uvalde County, Texas and passed away on February 8, 2014 in Onalaska, Texas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and later worked for Diamond Shamrock in the oil and gas industry. He was a Methodist by faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Onalaska, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Harris and Eula (Sanderlin) Caddel; sisters, Ruth Click and Grace Massey; and brother, Bill Caddel.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Caddel of Onalaska, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Betty Caddel; son, Chad Caddel; daughter, Connie Beasley; daughter and son-in-law, Sandie and Jeff Mason; step-daughter and husband, Tabitha and Pete Lawrence; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society: P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718
