Doss
Lifelong resident of Rockdale and Milam County, Alma Doss, 94, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 in the Rockdale Community Assisted Living in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 in Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale with Rev. Jan Campbell of Peace Lutheran Church and Rev. Pete Belew of Rockdale Christian Church officiating. A private burial followed.
Mrs. Doss, a school teacher, was born Feb. 5, 1912 in Bushdale Community to John H. and Ida (VonGonten) Timmerman. She married Fritz R. Doss on June 20, 1932 in Rockdale.
Mrs. Doss attended school in Bushdale, Bethlehem and Rockdale. She attended Southwest Texas College in San Marcos, then came home and worked at Rockdale State Bank. She later returned to Southwest Texas, commuting, and during her summers received her Masters Degree in Education. She taught school at Bethlehem, Eagle and Rockdale public schools. After her retirement from the classroom, she taught home bound and GED preparation. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and served as Social Chairman, Program, Recording Secretary, Music Chairman, President, Nominations and World Fellowship. She was President of Texas Federation of Music Clubs, where she chaired a number of committees. Member of Matinee Musical Club in Rockdale from 1963 until present. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale where she served on the board, taught Sunday school and was the church’s organist for over 50 years. She also provided weekly musical entertainment for two Rockdale Nursing Homes and was accompanist for two choirs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz R. Doss on June 4, 1975; two sons, Fredrick Doss Jr. on April 4, 1981 and William F. “Bill” Stauffer on Sept. 27, 1999; brother, Harry Timmerman on Oct. 22, 1954; sister, Annie Mae Hawkins on Jan. 10, 1977.
Survivors include nephew, Timothy Hawkins of Houston; niece, Joy Graham of Rockdale; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Scott Randall, Jimmy Keen, Robert VonGonten, Billy Gest, Rick Hertless and Jimmy Throckmorton.
Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, PO Box 312, Rockdale, TX 76567 or VistaCare Hospice, 2626B South 37th Street, Temple, TX 76504.

Ruiz
Lifelong Rockdale resident, Herminia Ruiz, 81, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Graveside services were held Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Rockdale with Father Lonnie Urban officiating.
Mrs. Ruiz, a homemaker, was born April 25, 1925 in Milano to Jeremias Paniagua and Antonia Urtado. She married Eusebio “Willie” Ruiz on April 27, 1946 in Cameron.
Mrs. Ruiz was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Rockdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eusebio “Willie” Ruiz; brother, Elis Paniagua.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Ruiz of Rockdale, and Martha Jeffcoat and husband Mark of Rockdale; two brothers, Luis Paniagua of Milano and Angel Paniagua of Florida; two sisters, Lupe Vasquez of Caldwell and Rosa Garcia of Groesbeck; six grandchildren, Stefan Ruiz, Victoria Ruiz, Joe Robert Reyes, Ashley Reyes, Sara Reyes, Callie Jeffcoat and Shelby Jeffcoat; four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Michael Zapata, Robert Zapata, Pat Zapata, Gabe Mujica, Christino Casias, Randy Robinson and Jim Laredo.

Beran
Pete Frank Beran, 96, of Thorndale died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 at Central Texas Hospital in Cameron after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 28 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Nita Newman of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Retreat near Thorndale.
Mr. Beran was born Dec. 31, 1909 in Travis County to Joe Karl Beran and Tracy (Haag) Beran.
He was a lifelong resident of Williamson and Milam Counties. He worked for Thorndale and Thrall Cotton Gins.
Mr. Beran was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He loved to fish and hunt. He was also member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Tony S. Beran, Carl Beran, Bill Beran, Henry Beran, Joe A. Beran and Emil Beran; sister, Agnes Catchings; parents.
Survivors include two sisters, Sophie Hall of Tyler and Frances Biehle of Thorndale; number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Robert McCoy, Jack Shanafelt, Fred Pete Beran, Steven Stolte, William Smith, Kirk Smith, Darrell Towery and Johnny Biehle. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Beran Jr., Larry Beran, Bobby Beran, Walter Ray Beran, Willie Ray Beran, Kenneth Biehle, Gary Berana nd Ray Biehle.

Gray
CAMERON – Memorial funeral services for Mrs. Lola Fern Gray, age 63, of Cameron, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Pastor David Trayler officiating. Funeral services and burial will be held in Fitzgerald, Georgia at a later date.
Mrs. Gray died Friday, Aug. 25 at her residence. Mrs. Gray was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Douglas, Georgia and was a waitress/cook at the Cameron County Club for many years in addition to having worked at the Texas Burger and Johnny’s Drive-In Restaurants in Cameron. Mrs. Gray was a member of the Cameron Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Zeffie Troupe; a daughter Brenda Matthews in 1987; and 3 grandsons, Riley Matthews in 2005, Skylar Mathews in 2000 and Bo Matthews Jr. in 1999.
Survivors include three sons, James Howard Matthews of Lorena, William Michael Gray and Lonnie Kevin Gray, both of Fitzgerald, Georgia; three daughters, Paula Crowe of Milano, Sharlene Joiner of Ocilla, Georgia and Ruby Michelle Gray of Fitzgerald, Georgia; three brothers, Josh Troup and Joby Troupe, both of Douglas, Georia and Dewey Troupe of West Palm Beach, Florida; sister, Maxine Gann Marek of Cameron; 11 grandchildren.

Simmons
CAMERON – Ollie M. Simmons, 88, of Cameron died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 in a Cameron nursing facility. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Pebble Grove Cemetery in Maysfield. Rev. Jerry Zucha and Rev. John Self officiated.
Mrs. Simmons, a homemaker, was born May 9, 1918 in Maysfield to H.C. and Ollie (McKinney) Weathers. She married John R. Simmons in 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1981. Her son, Charles Ray Simmons also preceded her in death in 1968. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include son, Billy John Simmons and wife Charlette of Cameron; three daughters, Barbara Zucha and husband Julius of Waco, Margie Murphy and husband Archer of Marlin and Judy Mayer and husband Joe of Cameron; three brothers, Jack Weathers of Temple, Carroll Weathers of Killeen and Conway Weathers of Angleton; special sister-in-law, Belle Tyson; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Balboa
CAMERON – Cecilia Balboa, 59, of Waco, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 in a Waco hospital. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Templo Calvario in Cameronwith Rev. H. Villareal and Rev. Theodoro Balboa Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Herandez Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Balboa, a homemaker, was born Aug. 22, 1946 in Mexia, to Leonicio and Sally (Caledra) Reyes. She married Raymond Balboa and he preceded her in death in 1999. A grandson, Alejandro Cienega also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Lee Balboa, Paul Balboa and Gary Balboa, all of Waco; five daughters, Brenda Davila, Pamela Cienega and Barbara Aguilar, all of Ft. Worth, Sheila Marie Felan of Grosebeck and Cassandra Balboa of Waco; brother, Leon Reyes of Ft. Worth; sister, Mary Diaz of Ft. Worh; 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hardcastle
Betty Reese Hardcastle, 68, of Angleton, died Oct. 23, 2006 in the Methodist Hospital in Houston. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, with Pastor Dale Frankum officiating. Graveside service and burial followed in the Liberty Community Cemetery in Milano at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 with Pastor Gary Westbrook officiating.
Ms. Hardcastle was born in Cameron on May 4, 1938 to Harvin and Mattie Reese.
She moved to Angleton in 1967. She was a member of Liberty Community Church and also attended Bastrop Bayou Baptist Church in Angleton. She was a graduate of Milano High School class of 1956. She worked for Angleton-Danbury Medical Center for over 15 years in Medical Records.
She loved to read, sew and do gardening.
She was preceded in death by her father Harvin Reese in 1962; her mother, Mattie Reese in 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Billy Paul Hardcastle of Angleton and Curtis Dale Hardcastle of Angleton; two daughters, Paulette Blackstock and husband James “Bo” of Brazoria and Donna Hodges of Brazoria; eleven grandchildren, Shawn Roberts, Travis Thomas, Ty Blackstock, Casey Hardcastle, Brianna Hardcastle, Shaniah Hardcastle, Virginia Hardcastle, Jerod Hardcastle, Deseree Hodges, Glenda Hodges and Christina Hodges; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Thomas and Logan Immenhauser; brother, Billy Lee Reese and wife Diana of Milano; five sisters, Peggy Dees and husband William of Angleton, Donnie Dugger and husband Jerry of Milano; Jane Yoakum and husband Travis of Milano, Pattie Copper of Angleton and Barbara Stewart and husband Gary of Milano; nieces and nephews; a host of friends and special friends, Burnice and Sharon Rodgers.
Pallbearers included her nephews, Danny Dees, Jeff Dees, Pat Dees, Kevin Reese, John Yoakum and Chane Cooper. Honorary pallbearers were nieces, Kim Trevino, Melissa Coldiron, Kelly Lane, Christine Williams and Maggie Stewart.
