Jennings
WACO – Funeral services for W.A. “Dub” Jennings, 76 of Corsicana were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Waco. Burial was at Robinson Cemetery.
Mr. Jennings died Tuesday, Jan. 9, at a Waco hospital.
He was born May 18, 1930, in Downsville to W.A. and Jewell Alsup Jennings.
He married Ruby Courtney on Nov. 3, 1953, in Lorena.
Mr. Jennings served in the U.S. Navy from December 1955 to September 1957.
He worked for International Paper co. from 1957 to 1974 and retired from Central Freight Lines in 1996.
Mr. Jennings loved fishing, hunting and camping, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Ruby Courtney Jennings; children Garry Jennings and wife Dorothy of Mesquite, Valarie (Shorty) Contreras and husband Rene of Corsicana, Chris Jennings and wife Linda of Texarkana; grandchildren April and Jason Jennings, Justise and Austin Contreras, Tyler and Blake Jennings; a great-grandchild, Aaron Jennings; brothers and sisters Estelle Cleveland, Bob and wife Merl Jennings, Cindy and husband Roy Cantrell; also, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shelander
Lifelong Mt. Zion community resident Wallace C. Shelander, 76, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Mt. Zion community with Rev. Ronnie Dyer officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, FM 1712.
Mr. Shelander was born Feb. 21, 1930 in Rockdale to Jesse J. and Addie Mae (Todd) Shelander.
He married Billie Ruth Denman on May 24, 1953 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, was Sunday School superintendent and chairman of the Mt. Zion Cemetery Committee and he served in a number of other capacities in the church.
Mr. Shelander worked as cattle operation foreman for TU Electric for 33 years and with Lazy Y for 11 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was also charter member of the Rockdale Roping & Cutting Club in Rockdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Brogger.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Shelander of Mt. Zion community; three sons, Conley Shelander and wife Brenda of Fort Lupton, CO, Wesley Shelander and wife Judy and Luther Shelander and wife Dyan, all of Mt. Zion community; daughter, Collie Terry and husband Bob of Cameron; a brother, J.C. Shelander of Smyrna, GA; three sisters, Gladys Cash of San Angelo, Frankie L. Cash of Sanderson and Mary Nell Naumann of Austin; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were R.D. Jenkins, Bobby Jenkins, Clifford Whiteley, Jack Yount, Albert Weller and Lloyd Reeves.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 3739 FM 1712, Rockdale, TX 76567 or Fourway Baptist Church, 9966 CR 41, Fort Lupton, CO 80621.

Henson
Weldon Gene Henson, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Graveside service was held 2 p.m. Monday at the Sharp Cemetery in Sharp with Rev. Doug Springer officiating.
Mr. Henson, a lifelong Milam County resident, was born Jan. 27, 1935 to Dan Franklin Henson and Dollie Ann (Edmonds) Henson. He married Evelyn Tucker on July 14, 1959 in Galveston.
Mr. Henson was veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of San Gabriel Baptist Church and a National Life Time member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Robert Elwood Henson, Van Thomas Henson, Giles Henson, Wilson Henson, Dan Henson and Guy Wesley “Nig” Henson; sister, Lula Pearl Mowdy.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn Henson of Rockdale; son, Dean Henson of Rockdale; daughter, Lisa Duesterhoft of Birch Community; brother, Nook Henson Jr. of Rockdale; sister, Zula Stolte of Rockdale; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dean Henson, Tommy McCoy, James McCoy, Kevin McCoy, Michael McCoy, Wesley Henson, Danny Henson, and Wayne Lawrence Jr.

Comeaux
Gene R. Comeaux, 66, of Rockdale since 1998 and formerly of Jennings, Louisiana, died Thursday morning, Feb. 8, 2007 in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Gunar Gerthe of Family Life Center officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mr. Comeaux was born Jan. 2, 1941 in Evangeline, Louisiana to Willie and Opal (Ravey) Comeaux.
He married Virginia Starr in Hathaway, Louisiana.
He was a self-employed painter and carpenter between working in the oilfields, where he worked mainly as a foundation drilling rig operator for Sollay Drilling Company.
Mr. Comeaux was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Comeaux; two brothers, Wilford and Cleo Comeaux; two sisters, Vinus Croft and Beaulah Coswell.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Comeaux of Rockdale; eight daughters, Pam Stein of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Phelina Clement of Jennings, Louisiana, Cindy Savant of Kinder, Louisiana, Sandra Haydel of Jennings, Louisiana, Rhonda Hall of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Melody Comeaux of Bryan, Monica Comeaux of Bryan and Calinda Comeaux of Rockdale; step-son, Darrell Mynar of Rockdale; three sisters, Shirley Graham of Jennings, Louisiana, Mame Duhon of Jennings, Louisiana and Edna Comeaux of Jennings, Louisiana; 16 granchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Nathan Starr, Charles Starr, Kevin Starr, Darrell Mynar, Michael Clement and Micah Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Ray Starr, Michael Starr, Curley LaComb, Robert LaComb and Marion Craft.

Brooks
Walter Fredrick Brooks, 63, of Rockdale, formerly of Taylor, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 in Austin following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Jennings officiating. Burial followed at Taylor City Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks was born on July 31, 1943 in Taylor to Tommie and Luella Imogene (Schultz) Brooks.
He married Bonnie Becker on Dec. 22, 1963.
He grew up in Granger. While at Granger High School he played all sports and graduated from Granger High School in 1961.
He loved to go to the coast and since his retirement in April 2006 he and his family spent many wonderful times traveling in the RV.
Mr. Brooks was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting, was a fan of all sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also collected guns and coins. His favorite sports always involved his grandchildren and he tried to go to all of their ball games that he could.
He is preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter, Lisa Gail Brooks, a sister, Celia Faye Nixon, and an infant brother.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Bonnie Brooks of Rockdale; his mother, Luella Imogene Fikes of Austin; daughter, Laurie Anne Lindquist and husband, Jim; sons, Jeffrey Keith Brooks and wife, Catherine; James Kevin Brooks, all of Taylor; grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Lindquist; Reagan and Casey Brooks; Eric, Dawson, and Keragan Brooks; sisters, Betty Hardin and husband, Tom of Austin; Laverne Wade and husband, Tom of Houston; Lois Lemmond and husband, Gary of Leander; mother-in-law, Winona Miller, of Taylor; brother-in-law, Nelson Nixon of Bartlett; sister-in-law, Brenda Cheek and husband, Jay of Taylor; brother-in-law, Tommy Becker and wife, Jan of Round Rock.
Pallbearers were Tommy Becker, Jay Cheek, John Williamson, Gary Lemmond, Mark Cheek and Arlie Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Kovar, Roman Stasny, Moe Buzan, Frank Urbis, and Y.V. Rao.

Sanders
Joe W. Sanders, 89, of Rockdale since 1978, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 14 in Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Sanders was born April 11, 1917 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Homer C. and Lola (Forsyth) Sanders. He married Lou Ella Webb on Oct. 15, 1938 in Wellington.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maude Baker and Emma Olson; brother, Reece Sanders.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lou Ella Sanders of Rockdale; three sons, Raymond Sanders and wife Jennifer of Dallas, Richard Sanders and wife Kathy of Athens and Allen Sanders and wife Shelly of Rockdale; six daughters, Katherene Bigger of Dallas, Mary Lou Turnipseed and husband Richard of Arkansas City, Kansas, Betty Joe West and husband Mac Hopkins of Frisco, Jo Nell Nelson and husband Raymond of Camp Wood, Janey Reynolds of Arkansas City, Kansas and Tammie Young of Rockdale; sister, Mildred Richards of Amarillo; 18 grandchildren, Mark Holley, Sharla De Francisco, Jefferie Lay, Brent Lampard, Kevin Cox, Felicia Tejerina, Whitney Cox, Monty West, Rachael Franz, Sarah Alexander, Amanda Sanders, Allison Sanders, Matthew Sanders, Joseph Sanders, Jennie Young, Jannon Keen, Jill Young and Brad Young; 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Holley, Brent Lampard, Kevin Cox, Whitney Cox, Monty West, Matthew Sanders, Joseph Sanders and Brad Young.

Gibson
Alice Gibson, 74, of Rockdale for the past 35 years, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 in Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Dennis Maddox officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilac Cemetery in the Lilac community.
Mrs. Gibson, a homemaker, was born Nov. 12, 1932 in San Gabriel to Jewel Marie and Belba Frances (Sanders) Wilson.
She married Greer Gibson on May 20, 1949 in Glen Rose.
She was member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Mt. Zion Community and enjoyed playing bingo, working crosswords, crocheting and baking tea cakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greer Gibson on May 21, 2006; parents; two sisters, Frances Davis and Dorothy Loupe; brother, Frank Wilson.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel O. Gibson and wife Sheila of Woodville, William Gibson and wife Tammie of Orange and Orie R. Gibson of Rockdale; three daughters, Clemmie M. Bratcher and husband Bruce of Rockdale, Japohni G. Gibson of Rockdale and Judith D. Mayfield and husband Roy of Rockdale; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Thomas McAdoo Sr., Curtis McAdoo III, Keith Gibson, Brian Gibson, DeWayne Gibson, Randy Mayfield and Roy Mayfield Jr.
