Services for Jesse V. Lawler, 89, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel of Longview with Jon Tate and Gerald Pinson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lawler died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Longview. Mr. Lawler was born Feb. 7, 1911, in Lamar County. He graduated from Deport High School in 1928. Mr. Lawler had been a resident of Longview since 1941 and was employed in the East Texas oilfield. He later retired from Amoco Production Co. in 1976. Mr. Lawler was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was a charter member of the Pine Tree congregation in 1964 and served as treasurer for 26 years. Mr. Lawler is survived by his wife, Mildred H. Lawler of Longview; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Lawler of Longview; one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Jack Atkins of Huntsville; one sister, Oleta Floyd of Longview; one brother, Jack Lawler of Irving; two grandchildren, Wade and Lisa Atkins of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.

Vivian Pate Blanchard

HENDERSON — Services for Vivian Pate Blanchard, 79, of Henderson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Crowley officiating. Burial will be in Pate Sanders Cemetery in Montgomery County. Mrs. Blanchard, a Baptist, died Saturday at her residence. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brittany Jean Butler

KILGORE — Services for Brittany Jean Butler, 16, of Leverett’s Chapel will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at the Leverett’s Chapel School Auditorium with the Rev. Danny Menges and Rick Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Kilgore Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ms. Butler died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Tyler as the result of an automobile accident on Dec. 21, 2000. Brittany was born Oct. 4, 1984, in Longview. She attended Leverett’s Chapel High School, where she played basketball and volleyball and ran cross-country track. She was an ag student. She is survived by her son, Adrian Canchola of Leverett’s Chapel; the father of Adrian, Eric Canchola; her parents, Shelly and Bart Bradley of Kilgore and Bill and Laquitta Butler of Leverett’s Chapel; her brothers, Will Butler of Kilgore, Byron Lee of Kilgore, Collin Bradley of Kilgore, Braden Bradley of Hallsville, Dustin Maxwell of Leverett’s Chapel and Chas Maxwell of Leverett’s Chapel; a sister, Tonyha Maxwell of Leverett’s Chapel; her grandparents, Jerrie Mayfield of Gladewater, John E. and Patsy Bradley of Kilgore and Dorothy Hawthorne of Lake Cherokee; her great-grandparents, Virgil and Nadine Schara of Omaha, Alma Clark of Kilgore and Rose Zachary of Mount Vernon; aand several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her grandparents Glenn Mayfield, Jennie Butler Daniels, George D. Butler and Gay White and her great-grandparents George and Emma Butler preceded her in death. Tommy Terry

LINDALE — Services for Tommy Terry, 53, of Longview, formerly of Lindale, are set for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with Masonic graveside rites will follow in Lindale City Cemetery. Mr. Terry died Sunday evening, Jan. 21, 2001, at his residence. He was born Aug. 10, 1947, in Lindale and was formerly of Lindale before moving to Longview 15 years ago. Mr. Terry was a member of the Lindale First Baptist Church, the Lindale Masonic Lodge No. 848 and the Sharon Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the U.S. Army; and he was a self-employed contract pumper. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Terry, and his parents, Wilbur and Erna Mae Terry. Tommy was a good husband and daddy. He is survived by his wife, Susan Terry of Longview; three daughters and a son-in-law, Melinda Terry of Austin, Amanda Terry of Longview and Cindy and Daniel Loven of Tyler; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dale Terry, Joe Don and Melissa Terry and Jerry and Cheryl Terry, all of Lindale; two grandchildren, Emmalee and Tyler Loven of Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Donnie Jones, David Hughes, Jimmy Shelton, Doug Melvin, Gene Clark, Doug Sapp, Dickie Nelson and George Melvin. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the funeral home.

MARSHALL — Graveside services for Ruth Dale Giles, 85, of San Antonio, formerly of Marshall, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hallsville Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Joiner officiating. Arrangements are by Sullivan Funeral Home. Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan’s Travis Street location. Mrs. Giles died Thursday.

Harvey Wilson Clay

CARTHAGE — Masonic graveside services for Harvey Wilson Clay, 94, of DeBerry will be held at 10 a.m. today in DeBerry Cemetery in DeBerry with the Rev. Dick Sawyer officiating. Arrangements are by Jimerson Funeral Home. Mr. Clay, a retired diesel mechanic, died Saturday at his residence. Memorials may go to the DeBerry Cemetery Association.

Elvis Ernie Johnston

KILGORE — Services for Elvis Ernie Johnston, 80, of Kilgore, formerly a Clute resident of 22 years, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 23, 2001, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Jonathan Latham officiating. Burial will follow in Mason Cemetery in Arp. Mr. Johnston was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Burkburnett to J.O. and Samantha Johnston. He died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the United Association of Pipe Fitters Local No. 211 in Houston. He was an avid sports fan and active in Little League until he became ill in 1977. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eula Johnston of Kilgore; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pat Johnston of Longview; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Richard Bostick of Kilgore and Beverly and Less Rowell of Lake Jackson; his grandchildren, Rhonda Curry of McAllen, Jimmy Johnston of Mountain Home, Idaho, Chuck Johnston of Wichita Falls, Angie Cappel and Aaron Cappel, both of Frisco, David and Dennis McGinty, both of Pasadena, Darryl Moore of Longview and Steve Widner of Austin; nine great-grand- children; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter L. and Louise Johnston of Tyler; and one sister, Anna Sadler of Troup. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.

Harry Vorsas

Services for Harry Vorsas will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Alpine Presbyterian Church of Longview with the Rev. Jim Crocker officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Vorsas died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001. Mr. Vorsas was born Oct. 20, 1922, in North Little Rock, Ark., to Mary Toy and George Vorsas. He and his five brothers and two sisters were first-generation Greek immigrants to the United States. Mr. Vorsas served his country 1942-1973 in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a master chief petty officer. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Stroh’s Brewing of Longview for 11 years. He had been a resident of Longview since 1973. He was a member of the Alpine Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Vorsas is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice E. Vorsas of Longview; two sons, David, 47, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and his wife, Gail, and Joseph, 50, of Tyler and his wife, Caryn, and their two daughters, Alexandra and Victoria; and two brothers, George Vorsas of North Little Rock, Ark., and Neal Vorsas of Fort Smith, Ark. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alpine Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

James Glen Carroll

GILMER — Services for James Glen Carroll, 84, of Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Brother J.L. Cross and Brother Pete Dugger officiating. Burial will be in Little Mound Cemetery in Upshur County. Mr. Carroll, a retired minister, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Longview. He was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Upshur County, where he resided most of his life. He was a member of Latch Baptist Church. On Nov. 24, 1967, he married Nadine Carroll of Gilmer in Sulphur Springs. He began his ministry on Nov. 12, 1950, and pastored in many churches in Upshur and Camp counties. He retired in August 1994 due to health reasons. Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Nadine Carroll of Gilmer; his adopted daughter, Shirley Edwards of Dallas; a brother, Gilbert Carroll of Gilmer; a sister, Lillian Thompson of Gilmer; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hope and Lou Carroll; his first wife, Bennie Faye Carroll; two brothers, Lewis and Kermit Carroll; and two sisters, Bessie Pool and Hattie Langford. Pallbearers will be Morris “Doc” Brinkley, Kenneth Carroll, Wayne Hadderton, Clayton Heyse, Jackie Howell, Duane James, Wayne James and Billy Hope Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Reynolds, Jerry Reynolds, Fred Pool and all the deacons of the churches he pastored. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the funeral home.

Barbara Ann Hash

CARTHAGE — Services for Barbara Ann Hash, 56, of Beckville will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Shoffner and the Rev. Aaron Bequette officiating. Burial will be in Rockhill Cemetery. Mrs. Hash, an ordained minister, died Sunday in Tyler. Visitation is 8 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Carl F. Murphy
Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2000
PARIS — Services for Carl F. Murphy, 62, of Detroit were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bogata Cemetery. Mr. Murphy, a butcher and farmer, died Wednesday. He was of the Baptist faith. Area survivors include a son, Mike Murphy of Longview, and a daughter, Sandra Walker of Hughes Springs.
